Jacob Collier’s brain works in phenomenal ways. This kind of audience engagement is so special. It’s the acknowledgment that there are more musicians in a room together than one initially thought. Music really brings everyone together!! I listened to all three artists separately and was so happy to see the old-soul Laufey, the whimsical Dodie and the cool cat Collier collaborate. Whoever had the idea to bring them together, thank you! Great job to the orchestra, conductor and audience too🫶🥹. The comment from the presenter at the end was the unexpected cherry on top 🍒
The way Jacob controlled the audience like a piano was breath taking. To keep track of what each section was singing and give clear enough directions that they could all follow it was ridiculous, and then for the orchestra to come back in and everything was still on pitch. But I suppose he knew that would have made microtonal adjustments to the audience if necessary or a big choir is a self regulating pitch instrument.
Three of my favourite musicians singing Wild Mountain Tyme with the National Symphony Orchestra, plus Jacob does an audience choir?? This is the perfect collab I never knew I needed
Caught this show on PBS last night. Absolutely astounding!! I have Ben Folds music in my library, but I had no idea he was so into symphony music and also encouraging the younger generation of musicians. These 3 performers were amazing, of course, and watching the NSO perform was so enlightening. But the topper was Jacob's idea of directing the audience to sing. I've never seen such a thing and it's hard to believe, really, that this random audience could perform like they did at his direction. I'm so glad I recorded the TV show and have not deleted it yet. I gotta watch it again!
Jacob does this at all his concerts. It's come to be known as the Audience Choir and it's well worth your time to check out the innumerable RUclips videos of him doing this at concerts all around the world. If you like this, you should check out the Mahogany version of his song Little Blue on RUclips. If you aren't crying by the end of it, there's something wrong with you. (Make sure it's the Mahogany recording and not the album version.)😉
Yeah, Jacob is like a musician’s musician. Except for collaborations, he generally plays every single instrument on his albums. His career began with those fantastic choral arrangements of Stevie Wonder and the Flintstone covers that got him discovered by Quincy Jones. So, I’m guessing he attracts a lot of musicians to his concerts (me being one of them I used to sing in a classical choir).
Ben has a long history of working with orchestral setups, seeing this comment a month later. Check out the Ben Folds Five album "The unauthorized biography of Reinhold Messner", specifically the song "Magic". That is the most spell-binding performance I've ever watched. Just ten minutes of straight shivers, because the vocals of Dodie, Jacob and Laufey were amazing alone, but the addition of the orchestra? Perfect. NAD THEN THE HEAVENLINESS OF THE AUDIENCE? BECOMING LIKE A CHOIR? I'M LITERALLY TEARING UP. I haven't seen something this beautiful n so long and it must have been absolutely indescribable to actually be part of that audience or within that concert hall.
Audience harmonies building to joyful high notes, some strained with laughter mixed in made my CRYYYYYY what the heck George for real this is magic
THE WAY I STARTED TEARING UP LIKE TWO MINUTES IN AND BY THE END I WAS FULL ON SOBBING
Greatest audience participation ever. Incredible.
I listened to the song all the time when I was pregnant. Sometimes it’s the only thing that will soothe my newborn now. So grateful that it’s something so beautiful by my favorite people!
This is so profoundly beautiful that it's beyond any personal sense of aesthetics, it's beautiful to my very body.
Thank you, Stewie Griffin from Family Guy.
they. need. to. release. this. on. everything.
Life is really hard at the moment and I was sitting on my sofa just In despair. This came up as I was looking at YT trying to distract myself from the daggers in my mind. It made me cry with its beauty, especially the audience part. Thank you for this moment of peace and loveliness that I really needed. ❤
❤
Few things make me cry like the feelings Jacob brings when he plays the audience
First time I have genuinely cried from how amazing a performance is
Not only are they are our future but they are a link for the youth and older people to come together as one. ❤
I am so blown away, this is a beautiful arrangement and these three artists together are a FORCE
If Jacob is not the new-born Mozart - who is then? He is the same out-of-the-box genius as Mozart was in his period. Simply amazing …
Bruh the sheer amount of talent on that stage
