The scary part about Jokić is that he might not have totally peaked yet. His game isn’t super reliant on athleticism so as he ages it’s unlikely he will get too much worse. All of this while his skills and basketball knowledge will continue to grow and imaging the reads and passes a 30+ year old Jokić will make is just mind blowing. I think he will retire a top 10 player ever.

Tbf in regards of the last take I would explore the angle of discussing what really is Steph's position, because it's pretty hard to determine if he's more of a PG or a SG.
The thing I think that gets overlooked with Jordan is that he did it as a guard. On most top 10 lists it's all forwards and centers.

you got it all wrong man. generally top 10 lists have Kobe, curry, magic and jordan... that's 4 out of 10... the guard position is 2 out of 5 positions... so having 4 out of the top 10 players be guards is reasonable. what is actually impressive is the forwards on the top 10 list. shaq, wilt, kareem are all centers, which would leave 3 positions left. It is more impressive to stand out as a forward.

People have to start looking at points generated more than points scored. Embiid averaged 30+ with 3 assist, while Jokic for example has 25 with 10 assist. Assists are an underrated part of the game

They still don't put respec on John Stockton' name. The man account for 80% of his teams offense with one hand (He only dribbled dominantly with his right hand) for his entire career not missing hardly any games. And leading in assist all time multiple of thousands assist ahead of pass first point guards like Jason Kidd and Rajon Rondo. But they put Steph ahead of him even though he isn't a true point guard.😎

I think Kareem both made things look too easy and they always give a "height tax." Like he's always 5 or even behind Kobe because Kobe was a guard. I do think there's a lot to how Kareem is undervalued because it looked too easy and I guess people wanted him to put more imaginary effort in.
The problem with the MJ vs LeBron conversation is that both MJ and LeBron at their peak were so far beyond the rest of the league that it is hard to evaluate how good they actually were.
I mean, is it? MJ was statistically further ahead of the competition than Lebron was and it's not particularly close. Lebron has faced harder competition and has far greater longevity. That's the debate, nobody (sane) is saying Lebron had a greater peak.
@@stephenwu1524 The statistics arguments have limited value due to the makeup of the league being completely different and substantial rule changes. It is entirely possible that Lebron's statistics would be superior to Jordan had he been dropped into the league in 1984. All we really know for sure is that they were both way better than everyone they played against.

After all of those expansions drafts, the teams average talent level dropped so much that the league had to put the 3pts line closer to the basket because the average shooting efficiency was getting stupidly low. He was the greatest player of objectively one of the worst era in term of competitivity, but for some reason that's not a point we hear/read often.
Also, we should not forget that the 90's were a blessed era for iso players, the illegal defense rule made MJ the dominant player he was (dont get me wrong he'd be good in todays NBA too, but playing against help defense would 100% slow him down).
Idk if LeBron had a greater peak, but seing 2012 to 2018 go against the Spurs and the Warriors was quite impressive.

Kawhi is debatable but even so those guys have had their turn running the league or are currently running it. LeBron was never the top dog his entire career in the league he did have a short time being it while he was in Miami but that team was stacked as we all know so I wouldn't fully give him that title. He's good yes but he was never as great as Jordan and I don't think he'll ever reach that status as he gets older

I think a major part of switching LeBron and MJ around in the timeline is nostalgia. Lots of people will treat MJ’s GOAT status as undebatable regardless of the stats of the person compared to him.

Jordan is over Kareem due to marketing, timing of when they played, and the media's disdain for Kareem due to his standoffishness and his religion. Kareem did everything he did in the NBA but he also did it in College and High School. So there was never a time in his 25 odd years when he wasn't the best player for at least the prime for his competition.

Though I loved your stat breakdown for jokic, I would use points per 75 instead of ppg (same for rebounds and assists) and use relative TS% instead of absolute (especially when youre comparing across eras)

I disagree with 6:13. Karreem wasn't very highly regarded in his era, most people though that Russell, Wilt, and Oscar were better. In 1980 (so after Kareem's peak) Bill Russell was voted as the GOAT. For whatever reason, be it his personality, the boring nature of his game, or modern day Lebron support influencing the perception of Kareem, he has gone up in most peoples rankings as we get further from his playing days.
This is one of the things I see alot with revisionist history. People didnt particularly like Kareem - rightly or wrongly, its just how it was. He wasn't certified GOAT, or beloved and that false narrative basically frames everything Jimmy talks about in the first segment.

It's not fair to say that Lebrons shooting % stays the same after shooting another 5 times per game or so, those likely would have been slightly more difficult shots otherwise he would have taken them. Also if he's sitting more then his passing threat is not as high, meaning he is guarded more heavily. That's why Kobe's shot % was lower because he took much more difficult shots more often.
Lebron shots per game for his career is 19.7. He's literally taking 20 shots per game for 20 seasons and only won 1 scoring title. It's absurd for this video to claim Lebron would have 12 scoring titles. The logic used by some of these fans is S tier smooth brain thinking.

its because kobe's "skill" only got him to taking tougher shots. his skill is judged based on his tough shot making. lebron has been the more efficient player his whole life lol because lebron makes it look easy. and as jxmy said, volume scorers are like that.

Imagine Bron forcing certain shots at the end of the games instead of passing to the open man, especially with his bad clutch shooting. He might have not won a SINGLE ring by now if he gunned for the scoring title in his prime. In the entire NBA history other than Jordan, a scoring champ has won the title a combined 4 times, and all of them were before the NBA/ABA merger. Mike is the ONLY player in modern NBA history who won a ring as a scoring champ, and he did it 6 TIMES. There's a reason for that.
What keeps me coming back to Jimmy more than other bball RUclipsrs is that he's just genuinely as unbiased as I've seen any sports commentator or writer even pretend to be. Don't get me wrong I have my homer RUclipsrs who are more focused around my favorite team (☘️) but when I want just pure unadulterated unbiased fandom of the game and appreciation of greatness, Jimmy is my go-to, by far😤🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐. That argument is just silly. MJ could also average 34 if he shoot even more than his usual shot attempts. LBJ is not better than MJ because of some hypothetical scenario.
You can argue that LBJ distributes the ball more than MJ that is why his ppg is lower, but the end goal is to turn that pass into points anyway. And MJ creates points on his own directly better than anyone else on a consistent bases. And even more efficiently during playoffs.
If Lebron (or anyone) can score by himself at a level as good MJ, there is no reason he wouldn't do it.
If it is a big deal for LBJ when he passed the all-time score total, I don't see why he would not want to beat the ppg average as well. The obvious reason for that is it is difficult, and not because he chose not to.

In regards to the warriors championship loss to the Cavs, people often point to the draymond suspension as the catalyst for the Cavs winning. But in reality, it was the injury to Andrew Bogut. Watch the game he got injured and just the defensive impact he had alone, not account for his offensive impact. In my opinion, If bogut stays healthy and draymond still gets suspended, the warriors win that title
Hot take: Jordan's resume wasn't sufficient to categorically dethrone Kareem as the GOAT which is why Kareem should still be in contention for that title and why it makes perfect sense for LeBron to be as well. They are the three greatest ever and should all occupy the S tier of all-time greats. Pick whichever you prefer, but nobody is wrong if their GOAT is one of the three.
Also, your point about LeBron and volume scoring perfectly illustrates why Jordan's scoring titles shouldn't be seen as a slam dunk testament to his GOAT status.

But he went from d-league/last on the bench to having a (although short) All-Star and arguably All NBA run. And according to Wikipedia "Lin scored a total of 89, 109, and 136 points in his first three, four, and five career starts, respectively; all three totals are the most by any player since the merger between the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the NBA in 1976-77."

I’m saying the way he went about that Bron/jordan argument was weird. I see it like this you scrap all of their accolades and just swap the times they played LeBron drafted to the bulls in 84 and MJ drafted to the cavs in 02. I honestly feel that LeBron would be more successful.
He'd probably get very close to foul trouble a lot, with VERY different defensive rules from the 80's into the 90's. On the offensive side tho, he'd also have a much easier time getting to the basket and he'd facilitate the 3 point shooters and i think just overall he'd have a much easier and less physical time if he got dropped into this current era.
I mean he was averaging 25 6 6 shooting 46% (which for that era was good) before his knee injury in 01-02 at almost 39 years old. I don't think he would have issues and his assists would go up because he would be getting double teams thrown at him all the time

I think that we look at Jordan, and LeBron's careers all wrong. I believe Jordan had the most perfect NBA career in history, but I believe when we look at LeBron's career you have to look at the fact that LeBron achieved so much that it's hard to not consider him the goat.

Steph has changed what the nba as a whole view of what a point guard is. A point guard now is seen as a player who has to have great shooting, must be able to get the ball from one end to the other, and he must also be able to draw defense towards him in order to facilitate his teammates. These heads only look at "assist" and forget that assists don't only have to be direct but indirect as well. Steph "assists" best because he is CONSTANTLY drawing multiple defenders towards him. Which inturn creates opportunities for his teammates. When has Magic ever had multiple defenders constantly chasing his ass because of how dangerous he is??? Exactly never. That is just one example of why Steph is a better PG.

I would say Curry because of the way he opens up the game for the rest of the team is just unmatched. He was the first unanimous MVP for a reason, he doesn't just shoot three's he drives, makes passes, and creates opportunities for teammates at an elite level. Now Magic is incredible too of course for so many reasons, but Steph literally changed not only the culture of basketball, like Magic did, but the very way the game is approached. Addition - I could totally be convinced otherwise. I didn't watch Magic growing up so there's definitely some bias haha (edit - y'all putting words in my mouth, I'm not saying Magic isn't an all time generational player, literally on the same level as curry or anything against magic as a player, I'm just saying I'd take curry overall it's not that deep)

I definately agree with what Michael Jordan says about Magic being the best PG of all time, when you truly define what a point guard is. If you want to debate who is greater at the role of pg it's 100% magic, no debate. However, if you want to debate who is better at strrictly basketball it's steph and it's not particularly close. The traditional role of a pg is to bring up the ball and be a playmaker, not jack up 3s from 30 feet out. But in the modern game were we have 7 footers bringing the ball up the court, traditional pg playmaking is not needed. I even know some older people who call the pg position playmaker because that's how it was. However, this is not really the case anymore.
The thing I don’t like about that debate is the traditional point guard has changed in the modern game and they have different requirements in todays game.
The debate is basically be better at being magic than magic which is impossible.

Bill Russel is underrated . Many people think he is a Borderline top 10 because he played a long time ago and he has a lot of hall of fame team mate. For the fact that he played a long time ago it is as much an disadvantage as it is an advantage. Yes there wasn't as many team and as much competition. But he played in worst condition than anybody. Firstly because of the obvious racism yes it was really hard in addition to that there was no such thing as a nutritionist, the physical training was so far from what we have now and I'm sure that if he played now he could do it for 10 more years. For the fact that he played with a lot of hall of famer he made them a hall of famer.Yes they were good but if they played with Wilt they would have never been hall of famer. He is also the best defensive player of all time and he won more than anybody in history. For all those reason I think Bill Russel should always be in the top 5 all time.

I think the more interesting part of flipping the years LeBron and Jordan played is seeing how many people who self-validate through toughness of era would be defending LeBron as being tougher than Jordan in that case. And you know they would because like I said they have attached some level of self-worth to pretending their era was better.
I think there is an additional part of LeBron scoring title part that kind needs to be added. I agree you take an all time great scorer like KD, LeBron, Harden and they only try to maintain a scoring title pace they can probably win it every year. I think the big issue is assuming they maintain their efficiency because the reason why Jordan was allowed to take all of those shots is because he maintained a high efficiency while doing so. Most players, this includes LeBron, start to see their efficiency drop as their shot attempts go up. This is because they start having to take less efficient shots for them. Jordan didn't have that problem. He could be just as efficient shooting 18 times a game as shooting 23 times a game.

I think Lebron's point is that just thinking bigger is better is ridiculous. Very hard to measure impact numerically.
