Dame’s 71 points was a great accomplishment. Just like Wilt’s 100, Kobe’s 81, and Bookers 70. Let’s not take away the incredibleness of that accomplishment just because the opposing team has a bad defense.
@@someperson9498 Exactly. It was yet another case of the modern game, with excellent offense and a wide-open halfcourt, plus the fact that he did launch 22 threes.
The comparisons of the year after Giannis went 2 in a row and this year after Jokic has gone 2 in a row can't be compared. When the Bucks got knocked out in the first round, it was shocking and Giannis had no excuses, the team's core was healthy. No one expected anything for the Nuggets in the last 2 post seasons.
exactly. If anything the reason why LeBron was scrutinized in his Miami days is because he performed poorly in the playoffs. Jokic performs exceptionally in the playoffs, always better than expected, and he definitely carries his team to the greatest extent. No team can win a championship with only 1 guy doing all the work.
Absolutely Jokic's performance will matter this year, my point. That his post season lack of success the late 2 doesn't matter for the vote this year is the point. In 2021, he got MVP because there was no one else to give it to. Late year he got it partly because some of hopefuls weren't eligible again and partly because it was damn impressive how he willed the Nuggets into the playoffs damn near by himself, the whole value to the team argument. This year, he's a frontrunner became he's put together a proper candidacy with stats, team ranking and the whole shibang. Now is the time to perform; however, if you look at Giannis's current legacy, if the joker wins MVP this year and doesn't perform this year, it won't be the end of the world. Giannis came back and won the whole thing the following year after he made people feel foolish for voting MVP for him because he got kicked in the first round.
@@AP-qn4ex And for sure that's why he's at best the 2nd best player of all time. However, that doesn't discredit how damn great he is at the game. Just not the greatest. Jimmy got it at the end perfectly.
@@devoid2783 I use to think going to the finals that many times made him the goat but as time went on I switched up. Winning is greatness and when you win 6 times in 6 appearances compared to only 4 in 10 appearances the greater player is very obvious
I feel like this is the time of the year when everybody is ready to throw their hot takes, but when playoffs end, people just tend to agree more on everything
I find it kinda ironic how one of the hot takes was about Jokic not deserving to win MVPs cause he dosent have playoff success like past players but then the last in the last take is about how rings (or lack there of) shouldn’t be something used to discredit players
He never said jokic doesn't deserve the mvp, he just said that he deserves the criticism for lack of playoff success because past great players also got them.
The playoffs is basically how everyone validates an mvp winner. Bc if you aren't performing in the biggest games at the biggest moments the presumption is that you really weren't all that valuable. And typically u wouldn't end up winning more mvps until you can show that u can perform in these moments and have success. And every all time great player has had to deal with this presumption. The most recent case being Giannis. Yet, Jokic is about to win his 3rd in a row. If Lebron, Mike, and others were afforded this level of leniency they would both probably have at least 10 mvps a piece.
they have very very very high standards when it comes to LeBron... he could have won 7 to 8 MVPs if the real meaning of MVP is used and not just Voter's fatigue

On the Jokic take. I always think it super awkward when they bash him in front of Barkley because if Jokic ain't all that, than Barkley can't be a HOF. And I disagree completely. Barkley was insane as an undersized PF! Just as Jokic is amazing as a big man. I never really heard that take about Dirk back in the day because we used to appreciate greatness for what it is instead of always comparing players trying to bait clicks on the internet. Oh the good old days of SLAM magazine when there weren't comments section to relay stupid ignorant takes... Back then, you had to defend your takes in front of the homies and you would've gotten laughed out of any room if you said idiotic things like "T-Mac isn't all that good since he doesn't have a ring" lol
This Jokic take is bad at least because it's stupid to think "Boomers did that xx years ago, that's why we should do the same thing". But what if they're were mistaken? Yeah Jordan didn't win MVP in 1990, but that was a mistake (imo), and because of THAT Jokic should not have an MVP? Even if he'll indeed finish the season as the best player in the best team? Bullshit, we need evolution of thinking, not stagnation
Cool video. I decided to do some research on the point about big scoring games seem to come against bad defensive teams. So I looked up all the 60 pt games (PO and RS) to see which ones, if any, came against a good defensive team by ppg. I stopped at Lebron 61 pt game tho. Lol. Here is what I found out. Oh one note, I did not count anyone from the 50s and 60s. The league was too small and the difference between the best and worst defense was very small compared to today. So no wilt or Elgin Baylor. So most on the top scoring game list were actually against bad defense with these exceptions: Kobe 65 against blazers in 06-07. Blazers 14th in defense. MJ 63 pts vs Celtics in 85-86 playoffs. Celtics were 3rd best defensive teams. MJ 63 vs magic in 1992-93. Magic were 11th best defense. Melo 62 against bobcats in 13-14. Bobcats were 4th best defense. Kobe 62 vs mavs in 05-06. Mavs had 7th best defense. Dame 61 vs mavs in 20-21. Mavs 9th in defense. Harden 61 vs spurs in 18-19. Spurs 12th in defense. LBJ 61 vs bobcats in 13-14. Bobcats had 4th best defense. Anyway just thought it would be cool to check this out. 😂
As much as I don’t like Donovan Mitchell (Bulls fan here), his 71 pt game wasn’t vs. the 5th worst defense. Chicago is currently the 6th best (!) one and that game wasn’t that long ago. If anything, there were other factors like the overtime and of course, the refs giving him every call.
@@Cotttonete at the time they def were Also find it funny that Dame is still on that list Fun fact; Dame has more 60 point games than anyone ever other than Kobe and Wilt Chamberlain, and Dame is on a trajectory to completely blow past Kobe’s record by the time he retires (Kobe has 6, Dame has 5 currently)
I like listening to you because you have some of the best logical breakdowns. I would like a video on how pure iso teams can’t win championships anymore.
I think context is very important. That comment from him applies to discrediting LeBron because he didn't three peat. Discrediting a champion because he hasn't won three in a row, though he has one or two or four is absurd. Jokic on the other hand has won no championship yet. For someone who is about to win a third MVP, it does call into question certain things. If he wins this season finals. No on will say a word against him.
Not defending him because I found that weird too but I think he meant that the criticism is valid towards Jokic because a lot of high level players have been held to that same level criticism. He didn’t completely agree with that take, he said it was somewhat valid, which it is. People have been saying for a while that MVP shouldn’t just be for regular season. Historically, a lot of NBA MVP snubs have gone to players that then went on to underperform in the playoffs. Hindsight is 20/20, but maybe the NBA should have voting occur based on playoff performance too. Never made sense to me why it’s just a regular season award. Playoffs are when it matters most, so the MVP should include both regular season performance and those playoff performances against higher level defense. With the “rings or bust” phrasing, I think he was trying to communicate that small accomplishments can be appreciated without the overarching “oh you didn’t win a ring.” Definitely semantics, but his argument does make sense.
@@DancingDuckGIF I don't see a point in including post season when there's now conference finals mvp and finals mvp in the playoffs. Jokic last year had Aaron Gordan as his second best player in the playoffs. The year before? Jamal Murray was injured, the secondary ball handler. Year before that he lost in the WCF to the eventual Champs.
You gotta work on your comprehension skills. He not once criticized Jokic for the “lack” of playoff success. He pointed out a pattern that would be broken if Jokic wins his 3rd MVP this year without making it to the finals. He stated multiple times that that does NOT mean Jokic is undeserving but simply the playoffs have always been accounted for when awarding multiple consecutive MVPs to avoid voter fatigue and usually that stops at 2 in a row. FYI, only players to have won 3 in a row had either won a ring or ended up winning a ring. If Jokic doesn’t win a ring this year, the noise will get louder as it should.
When fans watch people like Kendrick Perkins talk on national TV I can absolutely believe that all these fans think exactly what they are outlandishly saying, good stuff Jimmy
In the last segment you said nba fans need to stop with the rings discourse but earlier you said jokic shouldn’t win mvp because he doesn’t have a ring yet.
Jokić winning the title in the meantime, proving himself worthy of three MVPs in a row... It'll now take him three more years to achieve a back to back to back MVPs, but then he actually should have become a back to back to back back to back to back MVP
7:20 For those who are interested. Melo scored the most points against top5 defensive team. Scored 62 against Bobcats which were 5th best defensive team in '13-'14 season. And LeBron scored the most points against the best defensive team. 56 against Warriors in the previous season.

The thing I don’t understand about this ring debate is that people are mad at LeBron for being 4-10 in the finals. Mj won all the finals he’s been to. But the other times, he wasn’t even close. but would you rather be bounced out of the first round, or drag a broken cavs team to the nba finals with zydrynas ilgauskas as your best teammate? and LeBron still out here dominating at age 38. Hey Jimy, another banger of a video. I have a question tho, are there any stats on teams or players playing with the primary kit vs secondary kit or using a light color or dark color on their jerseys? Thanks once again for the takes :)
Great video as usual, but on the Jokic bit: the standard of scrutinizing players who won individual awards and have not gotten championships isn't fair cuz to me it implies we are writing them off ahead of time from winning the chip, unless it's due to them underperforming in the playoffs. And to me Jokic isn't in that boat. And retroactively I think we were wrong with some of the players Jimmy mentioned in his video after all. Until Joker is genuinely in the prime position to win but underperforms, and doesn't end up winning anything with his team i.e. maybe 5 years from now (which should probably be monitored this season due to his team's positioning and how they're pretty convincing as a contender), it is premature.
We aint saying its fair that people who haven’t had playoff success have a disadvantage in the mvp debate, we just saying its unfair that he is the only who that rule doesn’t apply to and that is the truth.
My other beef with the “4 rings in 10 tries” is BRuh almost nobody has been able to even reach the finals 10 times. Acting like just making it to the finals literally hate keeping half of the entire association for the better part of 20 years is ridiculous. Acting like 4 rings alone isn’t impressive. Blasphemy
I don’t understand how you got Charlotte being the worse defensive team in 13/14. I went back and they were 6th in defensive rate per 100, and 7th in defensive rating? Just curious how you got those stats because from my memory this Is the year bobcats made the playoffs based on their defence alone
Where did you get your numbers from? They got swept in the first round, by the Heat. The Bobcats making the Playoffs proves how weak the East was during Lebron’s prime. They were first in turnovers and allowed 98 points per game; this was before the three point revolution so 98 at the time was too much. Their team defense was trash
Regarding the 3-peat benchmark: I remember in the 90s that people were downplaying the Bulls because they didn't win 8 in a row like the Celtics did in the 60s (also 10 of 11, and 11 of 13) - never mind all the factors involved (fewer teams in 1960s; Jordan missed time between the two three-peats otherwise the Bulls might even have won 8 in a row). And here in Sactown, we would be satisfied with just one championship and savor it until we die. :-)

No team can win a championship with only 1 guy doing all the work.
people expect things from jokic in the post season this year and the nuggets gon get bounced again LMAO
Better hope Jokic makes it out of the 2nd round at least

So most on the top scoring game list were actually against bad defense with these exceptions:
Kobe 65 against blazers in 06-07.

Says criticizing Jokic for no Play-off success is ok.
Closes the video by saying that we need to drop the „rings or bust discourse“
😂😂😂😂
Yeah hypocrisy at its finest
With the “rings or bust” phrasing, I think he was trying to communicate that small accomplishments can be appreciated without the overarching “oh you didn’t win a ring.”
Definitely semantics, but his argument does make sense.

As a Lakers fan, I agree. It’s fun when they are good. It’s excruciating when they suck.
@Daniel DeMoro like I don't mind them talking about the Lakers, however it just seems like it's 24/7
The fact that drose finished 9th in mvp in 2021 shows his impact
Hot take: bucks vs Suns was one of the best NBA finals everything was on 100% it contained everything the drama the plays the comebacks the Superstars and the meltdowns
It’s because it was in the bubble it didn’t get as much hype in my opinion with fans and the atmosphere it would have been better
@@lanroom2896 it wasn't
@@lanroom2896
Uh no. Lakers heat was the finals in the bubble.
@@JustAMessengero7g so was bucks suns bro it had limitations on the amount of people there it wasn’t full capacity
@@joako3733 yes it was dawg I watched it they had limited amount of people there not the full experience of a nba finals
Nothing like grabbing some food, and sitting down to watch some jxmy highroller
Hey Jimy, another banger of a video. I have a question tho, are there any stats on teams or players playing with the primary kit vs secondary kit or using a light color or dark color on their jerseys?
Thanks once again for the takes :)
Here’s a hot take: Anyone in the NBA if they became the focus of their teams offense could easily average 20 ppg
not everyone but 70% sure
how is this a hot take?
As much as i love him i doubt Xavier Tillman could average 20ppg
Starters and 6th men probably but the guys that come after the 7th or 8th spot i dont think so
Please make a video about Klay Thomson and Kawhi Leonard about how they came back from their injuries.
Durant would fit this topic as well. Is there any other notable players we are forgetting?
Jimmy you asked me for my best hott take and I took it personal.
That 89' Cavs team is very underrated, they had so much talent, just ran into MJ
The playoff failure take would have been valid on Jokic if his teams those years were healthy
POV: Jimmy drops a new vid as soon as u sit down to eat.
The Lillard part @5:40 makes me think it would be a cool idea to see a video about the greatest games by players against a top seed #suggestion
Blasphemy
Lmao I hate that MVP fatigue all of a sudden doesn't apply to Jokic...😂
cap as fuck literally the only argument i've been hearing against jokic is that he's won it too many times because he's white
And I haven’t even watched basketball in damN near a decade. Still don’t miss a Jimmy upload
That part about jokic looking pretty bad right now 3:30
the jokic part aged like milk
Hot take: if the fate of the universe is on the line, i want steph curry
You mean to shoot a 3 or to best someone in a game
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the 3 peat part was amazing my guy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can really see the time and effort put into these videos💯
I like how people are coming at Dame for scoring 71 on the Rockets
I'd be like, "And can you do it? I don't see you on the court."
