In this exclusive hour-long conversation, we explored the ups and downs of his band's entire career, from Second Stage Turbine Blade to The Unheavenly Creatures, and all of the Amory Wars along the way.
I have vague memories of me and my friends singing good eye sniper at each other in 6th grade when we were acting stupid. For some reason we all lived on music videos from Fuse TV at that age
@mysteriousmr.j9420 Heard it for the first time on a PS2 game called ATV Offroad Fury 3, and that was the only song I knew for like, 14-15 years, and I always thought he was a woman lol I kept looking for the lineup change on their wikipedia, but nope, just Claudio lol
Man, I remember seeing Coheed with slipknot. Hadn’t spoke to the guys in years. It was very heavy for me to be there. Anyway, I ran into Claudio like 30 min before they play. It was weird. We didn’t speak. Just a look. That has nothing to do with why I’m commenting haha. So, watching Coheed play there’s a kid in front of me with his middle finger in the air the entire show. Even I, who wasn’t on good terms with Claudio and Travis, couldn’t help but take some offense. So this kid stands with his finger in the air and one would assume he HATED Coheed. Imagine my surprise when after Coheed’s set he returns from Merch with a Coheed shirt and a bag full of Coheed goodies. So I always wonder if these guys thought they were throwing up a brick- but slipknot fans view the middle finger as a showing of support. Interesting haha
Josh Eppard that’s funny man, it’s interesting to see how different fan bases have their own little ways of showing their “alliance” per say. What’s even better is that the guys didn’t get upset. I know a lot of bands that have stopped the show from a middle finger being thrown. I’m so glad you’re back in the band. We missed you man. Seeing y’all in 8 days 🤘🏻
I remember being at one of Coheed's shows in Arizona with Slipknot and Trivium. I was so excited that Claudio was doing a signing at Atomic Comics. I was so nervous but I met him and got my guitar signed and got a picture taken . Best day ever
Your really great talent man, I'm in a band and go through a lot of darkness I've seen your bio and it helps me to see your storyline... so thank you! If you get a chance check us out we love you guys! The Les Dillinger (Self Titled EP): ruclips.net/p/PLd5MPoxGYS3Kb0AVC-dq6PGM_NLojnfb7
This was the band that helped me with some real shitty times in my life. Their stories in their songs and comics helped me to escape my real life during those low points. I will always be a child of the fence
One of the best interviews I've ever watched/read. This interviewer is on point. Very well done. The interviewer is very knowledgable, yet engaged, allows the answers to come as they may, but still steers the interview as well. Very well done.
I’ve been following Claudio and Coheed since the very beginning. Every time they come to the Tampa area I’ve seen them (haven’t missed a show yet) My car is covered in their bumper stickers. Even my children sing along now. I met my husband and started dating him due to him knowing and loving them as much as I did/do. COHEED will forever be the best band EVER!!!!! 🤘🏻
Claudio said on an interview with 100.3 The X today that an adaptation "It will happen eventually, we're working with showrunners to try and figure it out" but he also said it's an expensive endeavour. He also revealed that Vaxis 3 will probably drop next year.
Firstly, I have stumbled across C&C in the last month in lockdown. I am quite badly disabled so music generally is perhaps a bit more therapeutic than someone not in my situation. I have found C&C massively inspirational and almost meditative which good music does for me. I have picked up a guitar and found some inspiration writing short stories again. Finally, I haven’t caught them live, however have seen them on you tube...amazing live and the energy is addictive. Can’t wait for them at Download UK.
I was one of those Slipknot fans who turned on to them after seeing them at that show. They have been my favorite band for nearly ten years now. Thank you, for taking a chance like that.
I did the opposite with my old man, im 17 and he's 44, so unfortunate we didnt hear it before. And here in Brasil there are like, REALLY few fans, ive never seen any
The interviewer did an awesome job, fluently working the conversation and having relevant questions. Great transitions. Honestly I just wanted to hear Claudio but was thoroughly impressed
You did an awesome job on this interview Kerrang! I love Coheed and Cambria since day 1 and I have been following them relentlessly despite the fact that I am far away from their usual place, but I can tell you, I have never seen Claudio this comfortable in an interview. Thank you Kerrang! btw: I did some covers of their songs in my channel if anybody is in to that.
Just a Great Guy.. I met him a few time Many many years ago. Opening for Thrusday at the Marqee in Arizona .. I was always glad they got devoted Fans. Peace..
Oooooooohhhhhhhh helllllll yeahhhhhhhh just come back to Seattle so I can drag my friends along and I can once and for all show them why Coheed is the greatest band of our time.
He mentions the band not being totally bought into the parallel comic book story but I think it’s a large part of what’s sustained their success. So many bands of those days wrote solely about their emotions and personal situations. Things change, life goes on and those creative wells run dry. Coheed not only continues to write amazing music but they’re expanding their listener base. One of the few bands from those days that can say that.
first time seeing coheed in philly this past summer, what an experience, i remember seeing claudio come out with the double necked guitar and i knew welcome home was the last song, finally mustered up the courage to crowd surf for the first time. you guys killed it! can't wait for the next time.
I'm a new fan...been listening to you for 2 yrs. Now, my 1st time seeing you live was in Columbus Ohio at Express live and you guys totally rocked my soul...i can't wait to see you again ...and I've been going back and listening to your older stuff and you all blow me away...Keep ROCKIN' !!THANKS FOR PUTTING YOUR HEART IN TO YOUR MUSIC...and i love your hair and smile...
Fantastic Vocalist. Awesome band....Most of their albums are platinum in my heart. 🎶 "Annd so the stooooryy goes..when i leave will you leeeeeet meee goooo"
I wanna give poor Claudio a hug and tell him “everything’s gonna be Ok.” 😢 Makes me wonder if “shoulders” draws inspiration from the past turmoil of the band. What a hardworking dude.
Hell ya josh. See them in Sacramento with slipknot. I got in a fight with a guy who was giving the band shit. Everyone realized what he was doing, and he was tossed 30 feet per second.... Gone. So glad to have you back. You are absolutely amazing!
Very interesting to learn that SSTB was just demos. If you listen to those old demos and EPs, they definitely share a lot in common with that first album more than any other.
I didn't expect Claudio to say Bon Iver when he was asked about his favourite contemporary music! I don't know how much demand there would be for a Coheed/Bon Iver tour, they're not exactly a neat fit, but I'd attend the hell out of that. Claudio and Justin are two of my favourite songwriters of all time. Both incredible live too
"Man, I think I just wrote this Tool song." Maybe that's why I love that dynamic riff so much. Great interview! Claudio is really humble even to the point of self-deprecation - I love him and the band. Hard to believe it's been almost a decade since seeing them on their Black Rainbow tour.
In April 2004 I saw A favor House Atlantic. I hated them. Singer and all. March 2005 I heard the songs IKSSE3, Three Evils, Blood Red Summer and Delirium Trigger on Winmix as I was waiting while downloading music. I was HOOKED after that and have beem hooked ever since. Every album has saved my life in one way or another. The new album is amazing. So long as you keep it up Claudio, I will continue to invest in the experience. Stay strong 💪
It's really typical in an awesome way .Because alot of prog influenced bands are high standard intellectuals. And all of them are virtuoso at thier skills musically. Gotta love lineups like coheed dream theater for shedding light on contemporary intellectuals and music 👍🎵🎶💞
Saw them live a few months ago for the first time ever. Best live show from a band I've ever seen. This is coming from someone who's a die hard Metallica fan who has seen them live a couple times. Coheed may not have all the theatrics of other bands (they still have some good ones), but their precision and accuracy while playing is unmatched.
Same. Like I've seen Metallica, Iron Maiden multiple times and Coheed was just something else. It just sounds so good, and heavier than I expected. And like you said even without all those theatrics it was amazing. Plus the crowd interaction was unlike I've ever seen at a show.
For the 1:22 question. I have been a fan of the music for about a decade, but just got Armory wars for a Christmas present. I'm a fan of the comic, but honestly the music has A LOT more of my attention. Whatever you guys do though, keep it going. You guys rock!
If Claudio is ever looking for producers who would treat coheed like it's their full time thing maybe he could look towards younger guys who have been living and breathing coheed for the past 10 years ☺️increeeeedible interview, great questions and awesome hearing from claudio at such depth and length!!
Crazy part about him saying playing with Slipknot was hard. We saw them in Tulsa, OK... I had no idea that they were opening for Slipknot. Slipknot gained a couple new fans that night. Took my youngest son to see Coheed again this past weekend in fort Smith AR and they're just as good as I remembered!
I wish I could afford the Amory Wars comic books! I've always loved comic books, my dad used to take me to buy them since I could remember, so I became a collector...and when I found out that my favorite band ( coheed ) was all part of this comic book story, my mind was blown but I went to buy it and idk where I went, I think I went to ebay, and they wanted like 30 bucks for one idk that just doesn't fit my lifestyle 😅 🙃 😐 so I'm still waiting but now I've tricked my mind into thinking I'm just keep treasure hidden for when I run out of everything else to spend my money on...so on that note I've gotta get these comic books...it's a shame that I haven't by now....okay Claudio I hear you!!!♡♡♡(I played the crowing at my father's funeral and when I stopped using drugs the first song I heard when my mom saved me from the being homeless on the streets 2 years ago ( a month will be 2 years!) The first song I heard, though, was the gutter, perfect! And my favorite part of my life that y'all ( coheed ) became a piece Of is when in keeping secrets came out, the whole album, and me and my ex would drive around with the windows down screaming every word that we thought we knew! I love this band and I can't wait to devour more of them through these comic books! I LOVE YOU GUYS! )
I always loved the concept of the story and whatnot, but it was super confusing not having read any of the comics. I just recently bought the two collected volumes currently out. Before it was just so difficult to get it at a good price. I'm really looking forward to Good Apollo Volume One when the collected book comes out. It's also my favorite album of theirs. But man, is Unheavenly Creatures an amazing album. It's always so hard to choose a favorite, but No World For Tomorrow, The Afterman, and Unheavenly Creatures are all also so good. I didn't get into the band until Good Apollo, and I'd heard of them and liked them when Silent Earth 3 came out. I felt like it was a little hard to go back to the rawness of Second Stage and listen to it, but it has grown on me over the years. They're definitely one of my top 3 favorite bands. I'm also hoping Claudio goes back on Game Grumps sometime soon.
I saw Coheed maybe two days after Mic’s arrest as they were support for Metallica in Halifax. Possibly one of the worst moments in C&C history but that show changed my life, so thank you for not cancelling even though you had every right in the world to.
I was hoping he dove into The Prize Fighter Inferno because I think I’ve read that Claudio’s brother is a boxer which is where the inspiration came from for the character and the album.
The interviewer suggests answers in his questioning too often, closes the question unnecessarily. Luckily Claudio is a good talker and expands on questions nicely. Worth baring in mind for further interviews, leave questions more open, so it’s easier to expand and let the interview feel more organic and go in a direction that the interviewee is also happy with.
To be fair I think the interviewer was just a bit excited to be doing what he’s doing. He did a pretty good job all in all of getting Claudio to open up. Obviously there are also time constraints and he wanted to get through as much as he could.
Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV is the best album they ever put out IMO. Coheed will be playing with Primus near me in July and I can't wait to see them finally!
In this exclusive hour-long conversation, we explored the ups and downs of his band's entire career, from Second Stage Turbine Blade to The Unheavenly Creatures, and all of the Amory Wars along the way.
"The hair is the source for power" then Claudio's eyes light up like he's thinking of how to integrate that into the Vaxis storyline!
Jeff Harris an allegory for Samson has been put into play
Welcome Home is the greatest riff and song of this generation.

Claudio's smile makes the Sun blush
I got to see Coheed and Tool in one day at a music fest. Nothing beats that.
i got to see coheed and soundgarden, was also a fantastic show. got to see coheed again after covid.
What did they play
I almost saw coheed and fall of Troy together. So close.
Jesus that's fucking insane
I was there too! Coachella 2006. There were so many good bands that year.
This was the band that helped me with some real shitty times in my life. Their stories in their songs and comics helped me to escape my real life during those low points. I will always be a child of the fence
Likewise.
same in keeping was one of the first albums i ever heard in general and life was changed after that
Me too. It’s amazing as we age and revisit the music that it almost morphs based on new experiences
Keeping secrets is a full on masterpiece
Good apollo 1 too.
josh alderete 4 is my favorite
My favorite song on that album is A lot of Nothing 7 but A lot of Nothing 5 is pretty good too
Like if Coheed is one of the greatest bands that ever lived
You won't get any argument here, them and right next door is The Dear Hunter :p
i agree, but im not liking your comment because shit like that is dumb
Thumbs up. Unheavenly Creatures is my album of the year, hands down.
I rarely give likes to people who ask but I agree with u 100% and I like your name so here is your 101st like you slag

Foo Fighters and Coheed would be the rock tour of the century.
Jason Nowak Coheed and Tool. And I actually got to experience that.
Matt Smith hol up they toured with Tool before?
iro Palooka it was for a 2 day music fest
Foo Fighters Coheed and Tool would be the greatest tour in music history
Dude I have a coheed tat and barely understand the Amory wars I just completely love the music
I’m on the same wavelength. Bout to get a nice keywork.
God.. this guy hasn’t visibly aged in 15 years...
Right? Lol
Just the chin and hair become more majestic
That means he's avoiding drugs, booze and shit like that. That shit ages people like crazy.

I saw Coheed maybe two days after Mic’s arrest as they were support for Metallica in Halifax. Possibly one of the worst moments in C&C history but that show changed my life, so thank you for not cancelling even though you had every right in the world to.
I just came here to see how different his talking voice was from his singing voice! O.o
best god damn interview i've seen
Claudio is the deepest artist ever. Genius!
HES SO HUMBLE!!!
Claudio is a musical genius if you ask me.
James Nixon and to think he developed this skill, he’s very introverted!
To be fair I think the interviewer was just a bit excited to be doing what he’s doing. He did a pretty good job all in all of getting Claudio to open up. Obviously there are also time constraints and he wanted to get through as much as he could.
I always thought the intro riff from Welcome Home sounded like a Tool cover of the Tetris theme.
I thought of that as Ten Speed's guitar parts.
When it’s all over his hair needs to be in a museum
Great interview!!
Claudio signed my comic book. Bucket list checked.
Last album was so good.
38:06 the look of horror on Claudio’s face when he let’s the f-bomb fly. He felt so bad 😂
Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV is the best album they ever put out IMO. Coheed will be playing with Primus near me in July and I can't wait to see them finally!
