Thank you for answering my question. I can see where you're coming from regarding Sweet Home, the mechanics of 8-bit RPGs can often not be a good fit for modern players. If you want to play something with a similar concept, then I recommend checking out the recent game World of Horror that has a retro look but a modern feel with mechanics being an equal mix of RPG, survival horror, and point and click adventure elements. The Fear & Hunger series also has a mix of survival horror and RPG elements, though you might find the brutal difficulty to be draconian. However, there are mods to the games that lessens the difficulty and makes them more accessible if you would prefer to play that way.

good choice on SMT digital devil saga. i also really liked that one a lot. also as much as i love the idea behind Sweet Home i have to agree its a hard game that is pretty rough but i respect it for being creative and unique for its time.
