Was the Nintendo DS the RIGHT CHOICE For Dragon Quest IX?

Dragon Quest 9 (or DQ9) was originally released on the Nintendo DS. But was that the best console for a Dragon Quest game? Why did they choose the Nintendo DS?

Back then it was a great idea
But it makes a game that is now hard to re-release as it is
Most of the game is in the multiplayer and online, and without it you're missing on a lot of content and fun stuff (Don't get me wrong, even without that it's still a nice game, but it's not the same)
And it did lead to Streetpass so idk I think it being a DS game was a pretty good idea
Only exception (in my opinion) is the 3D models, some monsters in that game (DQMJ have that problem too, with also certain islands that are pretty hard to look at now) looks not that great at all today, but that's just how DS' 3D is
