- We never thought Californian police officers would close down a street in Santa Monica to allow Jonny Smith to test drive the extraordinary Volkswagen ID Buzz. But they did.
He also gets a look at the WW ID Crozz.
Jonny delivers a very comprehensive review of these extraordinary vehicles.

The car so futuristic it looks like CGI in almost every shot..
Yes
Exactly what I thought , even after the first 5 minutes of the video.
That thing should be called the VOLTSWAGON
OMG perfect for wheelchair access!!! Can’t wait
The problem with online Daily Mail articles is that, unlike the actual paper version, you can't wipe your arse on it. But they are of the same standard.
Let's "keep it real", you posted this on a device using batteries, hypocrite!
Yeah, and there's never anything bad that happens as a result of our lust for oil, nope.
please get off your high horse you are 1 of 2 things, troll or an idiot.
Uses an electric device to post on a youtube video channel about electric devices to post crapy links from a 'newspaper' that you are not allowed to use a a source on wikipedia .....
This EV has nothing to do with the cobalt mining that bull shit media paper and site 'reported'
My heart has bought it! Let's see if my wallet can.
😂😂😂😂
Exactly I love the design, but still have a mortgage to pay!
Greetings from Hanover. We will build it soon. The preparations are underway.
Any news?
You are going to sell millions of them.
I need to preorder
bro this van makes me wanna cry. Like, the aesthetics are gorgeous. could work on the price tag, but its gorgeous
I am continuously impressed with the production value and content of this channel. Thank you all so much for your hard work and I am especially appreciative of Robert, who started this channel. I look forward to more videos, interviews, and great information. I hope Johnnie gets the car of his dreams early, just because ;).
D R-K you are so correct!
Agreed
I remember Johnny as the strange guy from fifth gear. TBH the two of them make a good pair in this show. patronize them on patreon people.
D R-K - Same thought here and Jonny turns out to be a huge asset for FCS.
Unless Top Gear, The Grand Tour move on to more EV stuff, this channel could be the future for mainstream broadcast
This is like a perfectly made video. Sound design is amazing, fantastic editing, great host, everything is on point! Seriously, amazing job yall! I think I've watched it 5 times?
I just came to the comments to criticize the editing. In 18:06, he shows a sensor we never get to see because the door is obstructing the camera man. They should have added a shot of the sensor in this part during editing.
I miss rounded headlights.
same, and a rounded steering wheel. this steering wheel is cool but a retro thin round steering wheel in an ev like this would be sick imo
I miss the smell VW was always notorious for. You knew you were in one.
Me too :( I wish they kept the old design and just made it electrical
*Legalization of marijuana, hippies coming back in style, (kind of), ELECTRIC... Volkswagen Bus, its perfect. This thing will blow up.*
Im gonna get a job and save up through the rest of high school to buy one this thing is fucking awesome.
Yeah, no. This thing will probably cost between 40-50k. And on top of that, this is a flagship car which means it will probably cost more.
There's no way you're going to save up and buy this car in highschool... Unless you have Rich parents.
@ pistol shrimp, That's the irony of the VW van. Older VW vans are now collector's items. Surfers and hippies which made the old buses popular, won't be able to afford either the old VW vans or these new electric models.
pistol shrimp what the hell dude... you didn’t have to say that
@@evanyoung2919 let him be a hater lol. 50k isn't hard to save up in high school. Plus, all he really has to save is a down payment. GO FOR IT OP!
I know I say this a lot, but you guys are knocking out videos with a quality rarely seen on RUclips or even TV. I'm blown away with how fast you are progressing and wish you all the success you deserve.
I love this guy. He does a great job with these reviews.
LOVE THIS!! I learned to drive on a 1970 VW microbus, with a stick shift, my Dad bought the 1st bus we had in 1959 I was an infant was born. Grew up in Washington DC~my parents were in their 30s and there were 5 of us kids by 1967. Many times they took out the back seats for long trips or to haul things~
The only thing I would add is... Solar panels!
Flexible solar cells are viable technology. Still needing refinement, but it's quite possible to have them in a roller sunshade. Would definitely make perfect sense for the rear panel in the ID Buzz van, since it'll be closed most of the time when the van has only 1 or 2 occupants.
Hover capability
solar panels should be the future!!!
True that, also the car will get over heated more quickly
Ron White check out Lightyear car
One of the best retro concepts EVER. Cannot wait to see the production version and the variations.
Very interesting video! Great questions aswell. Thanks for the great work!
Great concept. I've been looking at campers recently and really like this. I wonder if they experimented with round headlights as with the original van. I remember the debacle when Porsche moved away from round headlights for the 996 generation of the 911 and they then reverted back the generation after. Presumably we'll also get a proper round steering wheel for the production version without touch controls that could be pressed while driving.
Fully Charged Team, you keep turning up the quality of this show, it just keeps getting better. Great content, great cars. Thank you.
The quality of Fully Charged videos has become better than I, for one, could ever have imagined. Such good work, keep it up! As for the ID series - well yes it's good to see VW getting their act together but I really struggle to 'see' past the whole diesel test cheaty thing.
I loved the Omnibus when my uncle bought it in the 80s. I would LOVE to get this version for my family so they can experience the iconic bus.
Excited to see how much of that awesome concept remains in the production version
Very little remained, apart from the yellow colour..🙁
@@austrobok2958 yeah... somewhat disappointed
Haha the subtle flash of panic on the VW spokeman's face when he brought up Dieselgate out of nowhere!
I didn't see that at all, you sure you're not projecting?
John D yeah, I knew a guy who found himself in the thick of dieselgate through no fault of his own. He's since died of a stroke, as have a surprising number of his colleagues up in Singapore. Personally, I suspect it was an incredibly stressful time for all the technical guys at VW and if you said the word diesel out loud at Friday night drinks at VW, half the people there would want to see you fired.
The first designer seems a really genuine guy. Brilliant episode.
when the pro-diesel guy took over vw they said they weren't going to do an electric van/bus of any kind... I'm not sure if they've gone back on that or not...
So fricken appropriate. A human wearing a freaking bar code. 🤦♂️
You should date him
The front looks like an underwear
The chief engineer if the original VW was a Jew. The little ahole with the little mustache had him disappear.
Brings back many memories of the 60s models I owned and loved. Would love to be in line for one of the first production ones. It would be great if manufactured in Wolfsburg.
Such a refreshing line of cars.... I'm so bored of seeing these Teslas re-use the same design over and over again
I think the Croz looks very Tesla, but with better detailing.
Dude this is awesome that you got to test drive it!
I have an original Splitty. No air bags. No ABS. No central locking. No ECU. No fuel injection. No servo for the brakes. Two speed wipers ( on and off). No heating. Just 2 lap strap seatbelts. 4 speed. 20mpg. Radio is rubbish.
But I love it!
The best!
2⁰.mog God full eçmy
Sweet I like this, I want one! I hope we can have this asap! More Charging stations around the SoCal area too!
I liked how the reviews of Johnny Smith went, so well done professionally. I just seen it today August 06, 2022 and yet it was done 2018. So many have changed since including the date of the ID Buzz release which was earlier set to 2022 but not anymore. If 'am not mistaken 2024 for some reasons. Correct me if 'am wrong.
That steering wheel is an accident waiting to happen
But I don't care it's such an awesome idea
The forward and reverse functions are definitely clunky and would cause an accident.
@@evs251 no it's not, steering is inefficient and it's impossible to lift your hands and let the "wheel" rotate itself while still holding on to the car
@@TheEpere15 It's a cool idea I don't give a rats ass if it works well. It's a concept car not a fucking mass produced car ok
@@evs251 a square wheel is not a good idea, the other parts of it like going into the dash is pretty cool
I like the “play” and “pause” buttons on the pedals @ 4:19
THAT kitsch they kept.. LOL. But the rotatable captains's chairs and the sun roof -gone!
The moment they start production I’ll be pre-ordering 😂
8:16 "this is one of those 'Luke I am your father' moments isn't it?" Made my day, thanks! :-)
This has me insanely excited for the future.
Christopher Sines are you good bro?
You were a bra
The most beautifully filmed episode ever of Fully charged. Great job guys. Also a brilliant job on content and presentation. I want that bus as well. 😉
i bought one of these last month from my salvage yard for 16000. ,it went over speed bump damaged front bumper and one of the batteries .its fixed now cost me 2 grand for repair , my wife and kids love it .and my neighbours its the sky blue one .
I was eagerly awaiting the ID Buzz and was immediately disappointed by what I saw they released. It's completely different from the prototype. I understand there probably had to be some design changes based on functionality and cost (like the steering wheel did not seem very practical) but the cabin was genius! the space and customization options that were given were golden! and now it's just a boring immovable three seater in the 2nd row?! I feel so bad for the designer honestly because personally that cabin looked amazing. Hopefully they release the design next year or something because now the bus is just another electric vehicle on the road.
the vw id. california may be what ur looking for idk?
The production value of this show is so impressive. Jonny is a natural and keeps you engaged the entire time. I want to shoutout to the crew. Camera movements are smooth and not distracting. The editor is adding subtle grading and not doing the over contrast look. 👏🏼
Just found out that this is the most viewed episode of fullychargedshow.
And it is produced really amazingly well and Jonny is in perfect presenter mode.
The really should make an electric version of the beetle!!!
I love the beetle
ID Buzz 💕 Dreamin' here!
How cool is that! My mods would include a solar panel for recharging and a higher ground clearance for us country road travelers.
Lovely video and very well and professionally done! 👍
This was absolutely a DELIGHT to watch and soak in gentlemen! I have probably watched 100 fullychargedshow vids to date and this is definitely in the top 5. Beyond that, I really like th production choices, being on the beach with the interview inside the ID with Johnny & VW German engineer, amongst the public but also in your own bubble and the sound and videography are top-notch. Now, how about the A-C-C-E-S-S whoa brother that was cool, I've never seen ANY RUclips video where you actually got to test out a working concept vehicle. Johnny, I could watch and listen to your voice & vocabulary for hours -- high praise to you all! Watching this makes me proud to be a Patreon supporter! 👊🏼💙
I've been waiting for this. Now, we'll just wait for the price.
It’s like 40k :/
Great show, as always! The future is bright.
It’s beautifully shot video. Well done!!
love it, I had a 78 microbus and took on dead tour and my first car was a 73 super beetle. Good times, can't wait to get one!
I remember seeing the Scirocco concepts around 15 years ago and thinking wowsers they'll never make that futuristic sleekness roadworthy until 2050... And I've been driving one since 2010. So hold on people these things of dreams shall be with us before we know it.
This is starting to like 2000 should have done when I was a kid. Love it
Yeah, the cars are great and Jonny is acing it again but that music... Excellent choice of tunes!
Really appreciate how well these videos are shot and produced! 10/10
I love Volkswagen for what they are doing now, and yes, that ID Buzz can't come soon enough!
Thats exactly why ppl are buying the competitors, cus its still not out and too expensive.
When I showed my family this video, they were hooked on trying out the I.D Buzz.
Great cinematography, good editing, good interviews, good hosts. No crazy TV bullshit. Good production value.
(VW is an evil, evil company but) it's great to see the van actually driving around and being an actual car that people will actually buy.
Cheers.
Others are even worse, and they are getting away with it. French diesels have even bigger difference between real life and tested emissions. Anyone been fined or arrested? Nope. Harley-Davidson was found cheating - got away with it.
_some_ _people_ at VW were evil. I believe it can go forward from the d.g. era. Pretty sure Jonny, Bobby, and Elon feel the same way.
Yeah, I have a hard time with Fully Charged promoting these vehicles; blatantly VW has gone "oh shit everyone hates after gassing 100,000s of people through urban NOx emissions, let's release these 3 cute looking but commercially unviable looking electric concept cars to get back on their good side."
Personally I'd wait until they put out some serious attempt (not the compliance e-Golf) before giving them coverage again.
Do you really think it is that easy? It was kinda easy for Tesla - they started from scratch, and they are yet to face problems big established companies have to go through when launching new platforms. "Wright, we need to replace few of the cars we have with new ones. What assets do we have, what we can use, what we can sell, what we have to scrap? Do we need new supply chain, or our existing partners can handle it? And please don't tell me we have to build entirely new factory"
nomoreheroes93
100% the point👍
That roof would be a great place for solar panels
Scott McClure McClure maybe, but you're not going to get much charge from that size of panel
You are very smart! Brilliant idea really!
they probably are. there are some glass technologies developed that work as a glass window and as a panel at the same time.
Solar Car Sono Sion from Sono Motors. The solar panels do not give many kilometers but better than nothing. For commuters who do not drive far or if the car is used only occasionally, this car is my favorite.
The glass window solar panels are not out yet, I don’t think, but are terribly inefficient. The best solar panels are about 20% efficient, where’s as see-through ones would be max 5% efficient. Not a sensible cost/efficiency investment. The future is either solar panels on the roof or solar paint on the body, which I’m sure is only a decade away for some vehicles and two decades away for many electric vehicles. Also, vehicles without a glass roof could have flush solar panels on the roof now and I’m sure it’d be a decent help.
The videography is stunning!
Love love LOVE that it's coming into production in this new form, but pls make the headlights original round (it really is one of the signature features I think) and maybe bring more vintage/retro feeling shape/color setting with the more pointy front split. And as others have commented - the stearing, with the gears as buttons on the very wheel, seems messy when it's turnt uppsidedown. Plus how well will it work for us who live in more northern/snowy/bumpy terrain? With that said, this is the most excited I've been over a vehicle ever. So thank you. I WANT IT!!!! 💛
Love the music with this film ... it is so fitting for the whole atmosphere!
Coolest car I've ever seen, but l hate that steering wheel.
same
Its a concept version. Im pretty sure this wont be at the final product.
Yup. Cool, but keep the standard wheel. That other wheel seems unsafe.
Welcome to every concept car ever.
Every concept car has a futuristic non practical interiour that looks good.
Thank You for sharing with us. Very stunning concept. Peace.
My 1972 Micro Bus was a work of art with a sewing machine for a motor. I can only imagine it with the heart of a Tesla. Achtung y'all prepare for take off! It is a whole new world.

Very nice shots in this vid!
Great video, and my how the production values have changed since Robert fixed his iPhone to the windscreen!
Great move getting Jonny on board too, what an excellent presenter, all knowledge and enthusiasm and no ego....! Wonderful cars of course, the EV revolution is going to be a total renaissance, revolution indeed, in driving, the car industry, and society.

I had a 1966 21 window in the early 70's, replace the headlights with round ones and put in a gas engine and I
might consider this one.
Nice to see Jonny again on this channel.
What a great episode. Very in depth and the two interviews just nails it. Keep up the great work.
Hans Milling couldn’t agree more! Top notch!
It's so close! This beautiful car is almost here.

Been driving VW Beetles for over 10 years. Time for me to upgrade!! The ID 9:05 one is nice. I want that one! My next car for sure.
ID 3 isnt coming to the US. They do have a wagon called the I.D. Space Vizzion concept.
Definitely on my wish list! Also really makes me miss my old splitty that was nicked😞😡
I love everything about this but I just wish the headlights were round😕
The busses had round lights. Some years of the vanagon have square lights. they look a little like the Mystery Machine
it doesn't look as cute as the original van!!!
Yes definitely. And lower like the original!
i love the original one but i love this and i want circle headlights too!!
I thought the same thing when I first saw it. I’m a huge VW buff and drive nothing but Volkswagens, round headlights are a must.
"When can I place my order?" I have been waiting for this for years. Thank you Volkswagen.
I really like the minimalistic approach to the design of the ID Buss
I love the id buzz , looks fantastic, very good job to all vw team, I would pay any money for this :)
I really like Johnny's way of presenting. Calm, no shouting, and the right amount of detail.
What a great video! Both informative and beautifully shot - thank you ❤.
13:38 How perfectly he pronounces "Volkswagen". He dabbled or speaks German for sure. But I could imagine him as a perfectionist
the car looks stunning i hope Einar continues making great designs for future VW
I just watched all VW new electric car modells on youtube and wow them look incredible
I want optional solar panels, optional 2nd battery, the ability to run heat or a/c while parked. The ability to run a fridge/microwave. I don't want a camper RV. I want stealth camping.
This is so very exciting
Susan Eshleman you’re the type of bitch to take the time of your day and go complain and give a 1 star review to a nice restaurant because it took them 16 minutes to make you’re food when it should have been 15 minutes. Along with forgetting to give you 6 ketchup packets instead of 5 lmao!
i want a fridge too

Ana R I like your sense of humor lol
The VW Bus is just so frigging cool sign me up you can take my money for this any day!!!!!
I'm 68 and this is on my bucket list.Been waiting 3 years for it to be available. But like so many of you I'm not crazy about that steering wheel.
I've been waiting for this for sooooo long! Awesome
It is beautiful and yes, hopefully once in production it won't lose it's charm.
Great episode, timing's off thanks to pandemic: looking at ID4 (crossover model, red) in late 2021, van/buzz maybe '22? Now if only we'd get more public charge points.
Its like a dream, I'm still thinking about it...I think I want one.
This channels content is exemplary. Please keep doing what you do.
2020 would constitute a maximum of five years to develop. That is pretty quick in automotive lead times.
Everyone saying 2020 is slow needs to understand the depth of logistics that has to be achieved to make cars happen.
Well
Nearly two years on, would LOVE to know when this & other offerings will finally hit the streets. Let's get going! PS - needs to have a camperized version available at launch!

The mini van and the car are so beautiful. Can't wait 😍
Johnny, I think you did an amazing job reviewing these cars and the cinematography was also gorgeous in this one
I'm a diesel guy, but I'm not gonna lie that VW is beautiful dare I say 😂
Ive been wanting a micro bus for road trips and some of them are priced outrageously considering their age and the ones that are reasonable haven't been taken care of and need a lot of work. So buying this one would be cheaper than one of the redone old models. This will probably be my first big buy in my adult life.
We are ordering these for sure !!!!!
Fantastic production! First class show!
Beautiful, extensive review. Well done, Jonny!
Just amazing what drone footage you can take when the police are there to help you
I love the styling and innovations.
$30k and you have a big seller.......$80k nope
nobody that would buy this can afford it.
Were did it say that
I expect it'll be about $50k with most options. Because the demand will be very high... VW might make a limited edition first, to milk the "fever" interest for people who have plenty of disposable income, then produce a "standard" version somewhere in the mid $40k the following year.
@@cytherians I do hope you're right. Also, like this spokesman said, I hope they do "try" and make e-mobility as affordable as possible 'cause the averaging price tag on some of these EV's has been in the $70K.
I saw online that it was gonna go for under 25 or smth
