I could watch this just for the wonderful winter landscape, makes me wanna drive to Norway ❤️ (in a Buzz)
Same here
You could also take the (electric) train. :p
@@HrHaakonOf course I could but with Buzz I would carry my very own hotel in my car - unbeatable to me.
Its really beautiful here in geilo.
For those of us with closed captioning: this video was brought to you by stonebag, about a route planner, mister green, chemo power and mucus Beale.
Although I must say cc has been improving compared to a year ago or so
I had : Steinberg, a better world planner, camp power & Marcus Beale....
I guess it's improvising, not improving
@@MrKOenigma to be honest, I didn't actually check this time, but I've had these before.

This video was brought to you by Steinberg, a better world planner, Mr Green, Camp power and Marcus Beale 😂
And literally any noise is either (applause) or (music).
FYI the car automatically planned a 5 minute charge stop, that's why it calculated that you'd arrive with 44% after 5 minute charging at CircleK Geilo.
Look on the route plan at 1:07.
Yes, I've disabled that feature myself, but it might be useful for some.
Nice, another Geilo test. I know you prefer winter in Thailand, but I love the EV tests in the winter, see which one holds up the best. Thus the Geilo test is my favorite.😊 Keep up the work!
Thanks for those impressions especially with the Christmas music. I like! ❤
I would love to see this car come out in a camper model in the tradition of the 1970s VW combie vans
Thanks for the sacrifice of coming back early from sunny Thailand to this winter hell. Awesome tests, this kind of stuff is your best work.
Very nice indeed, the best in ID line in my opinion ❤
Simply loved the music with that amazing Snow White views. I wait for ID Buzz 7 seater.
Love the background music! Great video and impressions as always.
I want to live in Norway! Great scenery, super roads and impressive recharging infrastructure. Another great informative video.
Man! The landscape over here is mind blowing!
You should be able to angle the spray nossle higher with a needle(put needle into the outlet then change angle). Standard on most cars. Merry Christmas from sweden!
Well, the wipers goes up and sideways on this car. Maybe it’s intentional. Less spray flying over the car in high speeds.
Is the pressure of spray depending of vehicle speed in those new cars. More speed, more pressure in spray.
No, it's just an overall issue with aerodynamics that has changed on newer cars, and the "Fächerdüße".
I replaced the Fächerdüse on my Zoe, Wörth The Old Style "Double nozzle"...
It has much improved on higher speeds
It has to do with the aerodynamics more than anything. I have the same problem on my car. Nothing to do but slow down to atleast 50km/h.
There is actually a screw for adjusting it. You can adjust it perfectly however it will always be a compromise. Either you adjust it in a way that it works well on high speed and not so well on low speed or the other way around. This is due to the low power and because it spreads out so much creating very thin mist being influenced by wind easily.
I am looking forward to a AWD long version of it. Maybe even the doublecab pickup.
Another excellent and practical review Bjørn. Not a lot of snow in the South West of England but still some useful info. Thanks again.
Beautiful landscapes. My E-Up has a heated windscreen... Really cool feature
My first EV was a Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Rear motor, rear-wheel drive. With traction control on, it was fine in the snow. With traction control off, it was virtually undriveable in the snow. It was a doughnut machine!
Yes, I know -I had the same car.
Thanks for that video, very well detailed impressions explained and beautiful images
Oh Tannenbaum... Love it.
Such a great test, again! 👍
Thanks again for the video. And now please do the whole thing again and with a fully (!) loaded Buzz. That would be really interesting :)
the sound of the door closing sounds /reminds me/ same as a 70s VW Bus. Good.
A bus like this one should have the windscreen washer integrated in the wiper. You need much less water, it gets everywhere, the speed doesn't matter. But it is more exprensive for the manufacturer.
Where the RWD in winter really loses to FWD in (especially automatic transmission rwd to manual transmission fwd), is when you get stuck / have to maneuver the car in tight spaces with very limited grip levels (plain ice) or in heavy snow (relevant, in Finland at least, maybe 7-14days per year few day at the time (certain weathers)). Also usually there is some incline or slope present in the problematic situations :D. You just don´t have the same amount of tricks you can do by driving to manage the situation/get moving, and have to accept to find another place to park or go shovel/push. :D Good winter tyres help alot, but still..
That's relevant for ice cars but not evs.
„Hej VW stop cheating“ 😂 typisch VW
🤣🤣🤣
44 % with 5 minute charge
Bjorn, thanks for this great content! Does the Buzz have a heat pump as an option? Thanks! 😊
Danke for O-Tannebaum jingle!
Please include the heated seats test also 😎👍🏻
Usually on the wiper jets there is a small ball that you can adjust with a needle to change the spray direction, could be adjusted to spray more up.
But then when standing still it will spray ofter the roof? ;)
I love the buzz
Interesting how the thermal camera reveals that electric cars should have better insulation in the body for better efficiency regarding cabin heating.
For us older generation we remember when all vehicles were rear wheel drive. Put a little weight in the Buzz and it will probably out perform the front wheel drive machines. Living in the Canadian Rockies one of the complaints against the Ram Van's which are Iveco's is the poor traction when loaded.
As for the windshield washers they are easily adjusted upwards. Just bend them up a bit.
Please review and range test of the new MG 4 (Mulan).
Thanks!
RWD is actually better than FWD in snow. Plus the new generation traction control systems do wonders.
aber nur wenn der motor auch hinten ist. ist der motor vorne ist frontantrieb im winter besser.
Question: Will the number of cars charging at a charge hub affect the number of amps delivered?
Ideally it should not, but what have you observed,,
You found two of the advantages of a Volkswagen! The excellent headlights and heated windshield without wires. A third one existing owners might get in a few years ist the charging speed and preheating. With the (lack of) speed updates are provided a 3.2 update is far away in the future.
OK, the suspension and tracking VW got very well done in all their BEVs. Unfortunately the software in our Skoda lacks a bit too many things (ME3.0)
As all these vehicles for the press have the latest and greatest (?) software installed it would be nice if you could show the software version in your test cars.
Um, heated windshield without wires???
Of course there are wires. Didn’t you see the video? :D
Bjorn shows them clearly at 11:11
@@ichigo19870 some older vw models did offer a more expensive no-wires windshield heater. Unfortunately seems that is no longer the case... Progress, ha?
Hej Björn!
Did you try the Buzz with studded tires? I did and the noise was not pleasant. Like to see a noise test. Keep up the great job 👍
No
@22:20 Pretty sure the nozzles can be adjusted easily. At least that's how its been on other VW cars for many years. No need to fiddle with a needle in the nozzle hole like in the old days.
Reach Norway got cheaper kWh than Poland :) 1,9zloty in Norway - 2.8zloty in Poland .
I wonder if the charging port seals with that panelgap? if its uneven.. and you get salty snowmud into the port
Only my first car, a VW bug 1500 had reel wheel drive, all other front-wheel drive. I can not imagine buying a car with twice the price of my until now most expensive car with rear-wheel drive.
Make a compromise at such a high price? No impossible!
Is there a plan to check the model 3 LFP in winter again?
So cool mate
I drove for many hours in cold and very snowy mountain conditions in my RWD Enyaq last year without any issues.
Most new cars come with traction control and stability control. None of that luxury in an old Volvo 740.
@@Veroxzes 😄
Yes!! :)
All Fords also had heated front windscreen. I don't know why more brands don't do that. It should be part of the winter package on all cars.
Its a patent by Ford
@@os5484 Oh I didn't know that. Certainly there must be more than one way to do it though.
ID3 has the radar behind a body panel and it freezes easily when the temperature is near zero.
Tesla Model S (Ravens) have this issue, too. Collects snow on the front. Then radar stops!
I just was checking the bus here in Finland and they told me that it’s better with rear-wheel than front-wheel because the weight point is low the gets better grip to the road and it’s more energy efficiency
That sounds like typical sales talk. It's RWD because it's cheaper to make and also it allows for more angle on front wheels which gives better manoeuvrability.
How that infotainment feels let say if you compare it year ago which it was on other models.
Heated windscreen switch is on the light control panel…. Because that’s logical! Same as my caddy
Can't see in front of you without lights and a clear windscreen!
Wouldn’t it be more logical to put it in the same place as the front and rear window defroster buttons? (The answer is yes)
On modern cars, you don’t turn the lights on/off, they’re automatic, so that’s an invalid point.
it good when you have good charging infrastucture, without it its kinda ussles, bet it doesnt look so cheap to!
So tempting to cancel my Model Y Perf and go for the buzz. If only it had a bigger battery and without the Supercharger network I could not make the trips to Italy I'm doing regularly.
Model Y is much more efficient, especially with highway speeds. Also Tesla 4WD is beast
Hej Bjørn
Which version of the ID software is currently on the ID BUZZ?
Heated windscreen is nice, but unfortunately I can see the wires. Especially in sunny conditions with some distractions from sun.
Christmas music for a winter wonderland????
Which Infrared dongle do you use? I cant find it @ your equipment list. Looks amazing
Flir one
@6:40 I still think that the right side _is_ actually the right side. That's where curbside chargers in cities are mostly located. If the charge port is on the left you have to route the cable around the car, and the plug is sticking out into traffic.
Even better would be a charge port more to the middle of the vehicle (e.g. in the B-pillar), as this would be accessible with a 5-meter cable in most cases, regardless of the charger position. Eg. in cities there is often one charger for two parking spots, i.e. the charger could be behind the car or in front of it when you park.
@22:45 the spray nozzle should actually be on the wiper for a large windscreen like that.
You can park the car facing the other way (well not in all countries). But it being on left side, it's so much more convenient if you need to unplug it after you get into car, sit behind steering wheel and get a message that charger needs to be unplugged
@@darekmistrz4364 reverse in the middle of the street... really? Not only is this cumbersome (at best) to dangerous (usually), it's outright illegal in many cases.
Thank you for this nice video.
Short question: What FLIR-equipment did you use?
Best wishes from Germany
VolkAir
Looks like a FLIR One.
How does it handle the uphill driving in the snow in Norway?
When will you publish data from this trip in you’re excel sheet 😊
In the good old days 😉 the VW Beetle was the ultimative winter car because of rear wheel drive and the engine above giving weight on the wheels.
Rear where drive has never been a good option. When young, 50 years ago people like me made rubber band power cars, and rwd was terrible and spun out. In later life engineering taught us that it was unstable, and the petrol ford Mustang taught us it was hilarious.
The main issue I see with people is that outside racing and rally, oversteer will catch people out as the action when you screw up is counterintuitive ,while fwd is intuitive, just turn the wheel more.
How many times have I seen someone exiting a junction and in a rush to catch the gap. In a fwd they spin the wheels, in rwd it spins out and hits the curb if they are lucky
Depends on weight balance. A RWD car with a heavy rear weight bias will be unstable (like a Porsche 911, especially an old one). A RWD with a front weight bias (like most RWD ICE vehicles) will have poor traction in poor weather since there isn’t enough weight on the rear tires, but as long as they’re engineered by someone with a basic level of competence, they aren’t unstable. A RWD EV with all the weight in the center of the car is incredibly stable and will have better traction than FWD, hence the reason that pretty much every EV is going that way.
Good for traction, terrible for control when cornering.
@@ouch1011 "since there isn’t enough weight on the rear tires, but as long as they’re engineered by someone with a basic level of competence"
Classic northern people trick about RWD cars with too light rears, when not carrying lot of cargo or luggage. Buy sack of roading/drive way gravel. Throw it into the boot. Gives more weight and on really bad spot, needing more grip to get out of bind, well you have bag of roading gravel along already
My Enyaq does the exact same thing - park with low % and in the morning I have +3%. Not sure why it is, but I believe it gets corrected during next charging session.
You can see it on his android smartphone that BMS % didn't change. It only changed "display" percentage
Cold Battery can hold less energy, SOC shows higher figures accordingly, i think they do it right. Alternative would be that it stops charging at 85%, which would concern people more I guess
It holds exactly the same amount of energy. The only difference is increased internal resistance which changes energy into heat.
There is no heatpump on the first batch of buzzes, is there?
The ID, that transports style of classic VW best of all IDs. Very nice car, very good, that you can sleep on a flat floor with 2 ,30 length and still have space below like in a campercan like california. Camping Mode has to be updated! Norway is so beautiful in winter! Very important car to convince families and so, that electric mobility is not only possible, but fun and more comfortable than the shitty dieselwiesel.
This comment is brought to ya by Stoltenberg, a better root banner, Steinberg and Markus Biehl.
What is BMS SOC and why is it higher than Display SOC? The windshield sprayer can be adjusted higher with the little screw on the sprayer :)
Nice music.
what software version is this ? seems better than 3.0
What is the Android app that Bjørn uses to get stats from OBD2 scanner ?
Is it me, or is that software improved quite a lot??
RWD ftw
Great review, the problem I have with all ev's is a trip that takes 3-4 hours, is now 6-8 hours to including waiting for charging. The price of the EV itself, and the cost to charge, is 10-15x more than a normal dinosaur driven car that I can buy for $5k, and fill with gas in 3 minutes and go on with my day and refill once every couple of weeks.
Incorrect. The trip takes 3 hours non-stop and just 3.5 hours with charging stops (where I need to pee and stretch my legs anyway).
Winterdriving for the win! Nice…
Hi Bjørn, whats that app on your phone and how do you connect it to the car to get all of that info? Thx!
The charge door might not have been closed properly due to pinching that rubber cord.
What is the app that you are using to monitor the battery?
Car scanner
It’s too bad the MEB platform is not really preheating for charging. They should fix it in future updates. I have a Enyaq and in winter it’s allot less fun 🙁
Might help, but if heating starts when you start charging it would still be good enough, 5 minutes it is all it takes to take the battery to around 13 degrees from what I saw
@@silviuguseila2552 problem is that when it’s really cold (sub 0) with 5 or 10% left the car will limit the power to only a few kw. Only able to make like 7kmh because the battery is too cold. This only started after the latest software update
Hei sann! What brand and size of tires u had on this trip?
Continental VikingContact 7
8 min hmm, the car would have already been refueled 3 times from 0-100 percent (60 L) ...In Finland, at the moment, electricity on the exchange costs 85 cents for 1 kWh and gasoline costs 1.9 euros per liter
Those EON chargers are the same they have in France as Carrefour Énergies
"Rådyrt" omg, der lo jeg for godt
A big van is the last type of car I need, but looking at the ID Buzz my feeling is just "I want one!". Awesome job VW.
I find it disappointing though that it indicated 44% SOC at arrival, but it actually arrived with 14%. Does the VW navigation not consider inclination, altitude temp or both? Or was Björn just hammering it? Especially for EV novices this is not acceptable imho. A few percent is OK (with normal driving), bot not 30. EV's need to have dependable range info without the need for external apps. If ABRP can do it, why not VW?
Ah yes, awesome job as usual Björn! Big kudos
At 1:07 you can see that the planned route includes 5 minutes of charging at the point of arrival (Circle K Geilo). This is why it estimates 44% SOC. If you deduct this charging stop then you probably would still be off by a few %, but not 30.
@@kcop2993 I hadn’t noticed that, thanks for clearing that up! Björn then also missed this.
@@kcop2993 Totally right; is saw it too now that you mentioned it. There is a setting in the navigation which lets you define the minimum remaining SOC at destination, this must be why it chose to add the charger.
@@CreRay Yeah, the setting for the SOC at destination wasn't shown, so I didn't want to speculate. But I also think that it should be the reason behind this particular route-planning. While still not perfect, the software on those ID-models has come a long way and offers a lot of EV-specific options.
@@kcop2993 Honestly, I have the highest respect for what VW did. I know that the software was buggy at the launch of the ID.3, but at least in terms of features the current status seems pretty impressive. I strongly opposed VW after the diesel scandal, but the ID range has got me turned around again. If VW do an ID.2, I am buying! I will certainly fork out extra for the Travel Assist, pretty awesome what the system can do.
Have you got a new colour of your house? 😊
Isnt it the physics that determines how good it is? Engine over the driving wheels - mainly for traction to accelerate. so my RWD car is better with the engine in the back :) If you want good winter performance tires are more important.
Hei Björn. Have you selected the charging station in Geilo as a destination in the navigation?
Doesn't matter
@@bjornnyland That would be the question.
In previous videos of the Buzz, there was some mention of battery preconditioning when a charging destination was entered.
There are also sources that say that this did not come with 3.2.
That would be a nice test for the Buzz ;-)

How much range do you get when you actually put people in the bus. This vehicle is intended to transport people, not just a driver... so what happens if you use it as it is intended? Please put perhaps 6 adults in the van, and do a range test. Really curious how this will affect consumption.
Bjorn has done lots of similar tests in the past and has concluded that passenger weight has very little effect on range since the cars are so heavy to begin with.
