The Buzz feels more like an SUV than a Van. How about it feel like a modern MPV that it really is? I think VW has really nailed it with this model. It is kind of retro looking, but at the same time actually not when you look at the design more closely. A really cool looking car and obviously at the same time a very nice car. Thank you for an excellent review of the car.

The fast charging made it a buzz less of a disappointment for me. But... 2.5seats (only 2 isofix) in the second row, and no 200km of 120kmh avg in an 80% battery makes it a pretty limited family road trip car.
This is not a worthy replacement for a Sharan/Alhambra, or even a touran. And VW deliberately tanked the seating in favour of the T7, there is no other excuse for the terrible seating.

Good day Bjorn, can you please advise based on your personal experience with all the electrical vehicles, what would you deem reliable, and with a good range for a family of 5 (three kids, ages 4, 7 and 10) , our driving is not on a very long distances, I would say at the most we have gone about 500KM one way. We are looking for something with a big trunk, due to the number of kids, good driving range, and priced at about 60k.
Thanks for your great videos, they are very informative, and I`m learning a lot, but I`m also getting lost in all the number (not because of you), and would like an opinion of a person that is doing this on a daily basis and has a lot of experience with the brands on the market.

I thought the id buzz can do it better as it is fully designed to be an EV. My e-vanster only take between 24 and 28 kWh on a long Autobahn trip. Can you pls test the e-spactourer with the 75kwh battery? And yes, I know the id buzz is the newer car with a lot of high tech on board. But this I don’t want. Funny, "drafting behind a van" to make it to the next stop. A few years ago, I had a Tesla drafting me, and I was driving an overloaded 3.7 liter Dakota 4WD Quadcab pickup towing an overloaded trailer in the Pennsylvania mountains. Even under 40 mph on the uphills he stayed right on my tail for 70 miles. It seems as if the ID Buzz on this trip was getting about 2.5 miles per kilowatt-hour. That's really low and not something I would take on a cross country trip, at least not on superhighways. I wonder how it would do on 2-lane backroads and how many fast charging stations are available there.

After all, no normal family can afford to buy ID buz or normal ev. Here in Denmark, they do not give any subsidies to buy an electric car. That people think that thay can replace all fossil cars with electric cars in the futere is laughable. Where will the energy come from?. I think they should then make more Hydrogen cars. We do not have Hydro plants in Denmark like Norway does. They should make geothermal plants. But electric power is good business tax etc.. The price is from 579.995 kr in Denmark can be used 77 kWh / 82 kWh

If you maintain even highway speeds and not don't drive lots of uphill, it's not going to make much difference. Once at speed, it's the aerodynamics that matter. Weight mostly plays a role when accelerating (uphill is pretty much the same as accelerating).

Hi Bjorn. You do good work. Really fun to watch. Simple question…I thought the range was around 250 miles. 1000 km is around 620 miles, yes? So you should be able to do that trip with only 2 stops if you start with a full charge, no? Have you ever done a road trip in the United States? Do you think the ID Buzz would be a good long distance minivan in the US? Thank you very much.

It’s quicker to charge more often for shorter periods in the most efficient part of the battery storage, i.e. between 20% and 80% full. In your scenario you would charge from empty to full both times, also assuming that the charging stations are placed exactly where you need them.

If you're used to petrol/gas filling, imagine when your tank is nearly full you need to use a spoon not a hose, it's gonna be really slow to go 80-100%, far slower than 0-80%. To go fast overall you should only fill the tank to 80% but refill more often.
That said I've found running the battery to 0% tricky, I did a longer trip yesterday and ABRP said I'd turn up with 15%, actually arrived with 45% so got a far slower charge speed. I'm sure you can dial it in if you do many trips.

I don't live in the US but I try to answer to the second question. Considering how the last EVS are designed for US market I would say this ID buzz has not a superb range. 250 miles is far to be reached at highway speeds. It all depends on how many fast charghers you have on the roads, which I think varies from one state to another.

    Impressive performance for a van!
Will you test the MG4 like you tested the ZS EV ?

@Bj0rn! Is this better than Model Y as a family car/van?

Depends on your needs. How many people? How much cargo space do you actually need? Model y is still way more efficient and more fun to drive
