Well done Donavan, a wee lad from Glasgow made it to the big time… and to duet with the angelic crystal…absolutely lovely. Good for you my friend…Scotland is proud of you. 🏴
When I went to Vietnam in 1967 I took a little tape player with me on which I had taped some songs by Donovan. I figured that in lonely times over there in that jungle I could get some feelings of being back home. Donovan's voice could soothe things even in that hell hole called Vietnam.
A hellhole that was completely unnecessary too, as it turned out, but that monster Henry Kissinger couldn't wait for the death toll to get started. I skipped the first draft lottery since I knew I'd move to Canada if I got a low number, but mine was in the 300s, so I joined the Peace Corps instead and have never regretted it!
I LOVE this song, and Donovan and Crystal Gayle are perfect for this heart warming song of LOVE. The first time I listened to it I actually got a couple tears in my eyes. As I have metastatic prostate cancer and one of my cancer doctors told me I'm late stage 4 and it is very aggressive I do spend some of my remaining days listening to LOVE songs such as this one. They warm my heart and remind me of my 45 years I've been lucky enough to have with my beautiful wife, Deb. I am so fortunate to have this LOVE affair with her. God Bless each of you and please focus on the happiness in your lives.
Best wishes! May you celebrate every day that you awake breathing. I have stage 4 colon and liver cancer. I've prepared as much as possible; made my cremation urn and placed my headstone. I've also made a list of songs to be played at my celebration of life. This is one of them. Good luck to us both and to all the other cancer fighters out there.
@@steinrich56 Thanks, kind thoughts from me in England! I feel sorry for young people now especially the way the world is. We had the best of it for sure. By the way, I visited Australia in 2006 and it was beautiful as I had imagined.
This is one of the most beautiful duets I've ever seen and heard. Two supreme artists weaving their magic into a musical tapestry. Crystal Gayle is absolutely gorgeous here. I wonder if the audience appreciate what they just witnessed.
I never really liked Donovan in the 1960s..... but here... his voice is more mature. I expected Crystal Gayle's voice and persona to be incredible as always.... but these two voices stunned me with their blended harmonies. Wow!
Just heart-wrenching! I loved him as a teenager when his first song was released. So in love with him. Now, listening to this, in July of 2024, I am STILL in love with him! LOL
Such an underrated duo. I wish this was spread across more platforms. Their voices are so complimentary. I feel the folk roll through my bones on this one.
As a young boy I distinctly remember my father singing the praises of Crystal Gayle’s voice Now I understand why 🧡 Beautifully understated version of the classic

@@fastm3980 I believe he used to join the beatniks on the prom and beach at St.Ives back around 1962; wacky art music and smoking… the town council there even demolished the harbour wall because it had so many beatniks living playing and sleeping against it constantly!

Boy, am I late to this great video! 1981! Jeez! Crystal Gayle has an absolutely gorgeous voice. Haven't heard much from her lately although she was on a recent awards show reprising "Brown Eyes." Many people don't know that she's Loretta Lynn's sister. Donovan's in fine voice here, too. Great guitar!
I've seen Donovan many times, the last in 2017, and he was splendid. He still has the voice and good vibes. He's a great songwriter, singer and guitar player. Still shining.
Oh God, that was so beautiful, I wish it could have gone on for so much longer! Donovan was so very special, but never seemed to become an icon like Dylan or Elton John, or David Bowie. He deserved it. His songs and singing were very haunting.
