It’s more than 45 years ago (1975) …suddenly I found it inhere I’m listen this song at a first time since then ….. after all those years went by ……..I’m crying because my young time will never coming back …. What’s a Memory and what a Beautiful song!
I grew up with her. My mom played her at home. The home was full of beauty, cooking and music. For my 30th B-day, a friend took me to a surprise. Joan Baez live in concert in Atlanta. I think I may have cried for a half hour.
I was just a kid of nineteen and was leaving home for the first time.the girl I was courting and I were hanging around the home of some other ladies where this song was being played over and over yet we loved it and never grew tired of it. I'm seventy now and this song takes me back to my youth. Oh to be young again, for just a moment long enough to reconsider the choices that I made back then just long enough to create a different life a better life than the one that I had dealt for myself. Yes. Oh to be young again.
Lord I was so young and full of wonder and the promise of life. At 74 still listening, trying to define my journey thru music. It was as a child with a pocket full of penny candy, no thought of running out.
In 1964 I was often in front of the White House when we picketed the White House and singing all those old civil rights songs In support of passing the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. One day it was bigger rally across the street in Lafayette Park. I was just standing around and all of a sudden, Joan Baez stepped out of the crowd. She was there to support Civil Rights, not to sing. I was stunned by how beautiful she was. A few years later she was singing to a huge crowd gathered on the Mall in an anti Vietnam war protest. She was singing from a stage erected on the west steps of the Capitol exactly where the January 6th riot took place. Around 4 years ago I saw her perform at the Kate Wolf Festival in Mendocino county. Her son was playing percussion. She looked great and sounded great and got a standing ovation. She turned 80 last January 9th.
My beloved brother Tommy was there in front of the White House and heard Joan B sing and he also was a part of the crowd singing with her. He also was a folk singer/songwriter and we loved how she performed and how. Forever thankful for her music and presence.

We did indeed. We had it in our power to be "the greatest generation in history", I wonder how we c0cked it up so badly. In 1967 we were certain we were about to change the world, by 1968 we knew we couldn't. heady times.
Yes incredibly lucky to have such life changing artistry. Possibly the outcome of what we worked for but inroads were made. Today we see there are tremendous forces that only concern seems to be holding onto a power that was earned on the backs of those enslaved. The fight continues! Many of the young give me tremendous hope as the torch is necessarily passed to them. My 2 cents🤗
As another big fan still at 76 I can't begin to tell you how much your music has helped me cope with the recent death of my dear wife. Thank you so much Alan Dublin Ireland

Amazing! I couldn't agree more. Dylan's poetry and Joan's beautiful voice. The combination is so wonderful it makes me cry tears of joy, to hear the sheer beauty of this song.
Joan's voice is heavenly. There are others including Judy Collins, Priscilla Herdman, Kate Wolf. But Joan really does a great interpretation of Dylan's writings.
Each voicevoice is "unique"... and yes, Joan Baez has (also) a nice voice....like a million others... I do like her performances very much... like the performances of 1000 others...Greetings.
fell in love with this lady about 50 years ago. She has just become more beautiful with the years and I have just realized that all the important women in my life have a striking resemblance to her.
Un engagement courageux, une intelligence, une sensibilité, un regard transperçant, une bonté et une lumineuse beauté. Et en plus une voix pure : la femme artiste unique de sa génération.
Back in the time when so many songs were poetry. This one was an epic. Joan and Bob were part of an inspired time when words and their meaning meant so much to people experiencing the tumultuous times back then. I used my words to describe this but my words are not worthy.
And now the young want to ban words they disapprovge of, rip up history and pull down statues. They ain't no counter culture, they just angry fascists wanting to control. What goes around comes around, maybe their kids will be another enlightened generation, just before the world ends.
I am 74 also and my husband and I lived in San Francisco until 1975 when we moved to Marin Co. Joan has always been an elegant woman - her hairdos, her modest and very stylish and feminine clothes, her elegant choice of jewelry and never smoking or holding a glass of alcohol - with the voice of an Angel. I wasn't into Bob Dylan or Joan Baez concerts then and learned from You Tube videos that she and Bob were engaged until he left her to marry Sara. I am so thankful to the person who posted her life story in photos. All the photos made me aware that this song isn't just about Sara, but is about Joan also. Confusing because in song "Sara", Bob stated that he wrote "Sad Eyed Lady" for Sara. Learned from the You Tube posting of Joan singing her composition "Diamonds and Rust" that the song was about Bob, who I read was irritated at the time, but reunited with Joan in his Rolling Thunder tour and later expressed his lifelong love for Joan.
Bob wrote it to his true love that was Sara, their divorce really broke him. The tragedy in Bob's romantic life is that he connected with Joan on a musical, artistic level but didnt love her. With Sara it was the opposite,he was in love with her but didnt connect, bond with her on an artistic level.Sara wasnt an artist. Bob said that when he started taking painting classes in NY he couldnt share it wih her,it didn't interest her,its not like they talked about it for hours, she wasnt nourishing him on his artistic life. He always felt incomplete in relationships,i believe he is a deeply lonely man,a hermit soul deep down
Jan. 2021, being homebody ..covd...would probably be crazy if not able to go back in time when these awesome poets, singers and writers made music unforgettable. Lovely.....
I think Joan has the sweetest, longest lasting voice of anyone from her generation. And it comes from a place of ease- she never sounds like she has to force it.. always comes from an easy place- THAT is an accomplishment in itself!
There will never be two artists who were meant to find each other more than these two. Joan understood Dylan and he understood her. And together they helped turn the 60s into a brilliant musical wonderland for us all to enjoy. No one else could have mastered this song but Joan.
I never heard this song sung by Joan Baez, it is magnificent. It's a good song when Bob Dylan sings it himself, but the way Joan sings it, is even better....
20:19hrs. Loved this lady with the fabulous voice, since I was 16 yrs old. I'm 75 now and still have an LP of hers. Scratched to hell, but I don't care.
Some where near midnight her magnificent voice burst through the night air at Woodstock.... I stood there watching happy I made the journey to hear this beauty sing for us.....❣️
Two great beautiful souls - Joan Baez and Bob Dylan must have a very special connection in their previous lives. If you truly love a man or a woman - you must set him/her free - free from the shackle of repeated birth and birth. They both have so many noble inner quality - truthful, intelligent and wise, humble, peaceful, creative, honesty and more. They both have bring much light and joy to us through their songs individually and collectively. God blessed you both. They both have awakened the hearts and souls of many.
Song coupled with the photomontage is deeply touching to me. Makes me think of listening to Bob and her, together and separately since 1963. Only got to see either of them in in concert in recent years. Just gives me shivers to think of how much of heir music I have incorporated into my soul all these years.
I grew up listening to Joan Baez, my mother had several LPs of hers and played them very often. I soon loved her music. I had the opportunity to see her twice live, my heart warmed with deep emotions, also the memory of my late mother. Now I am reflecting on how the ideals of a generation that inspired hope for a better world have degenerated into a dark ideology. Or is it me who has changed? Or both?
I first saw and heard Joan Baez on TV when she was 19. I had never heard such a beautiful voice. She has been at my center ever since, she is part of my soul.
I'm 71. Wherever my musical journey takes me.. there's always a stopover for Dylan and Baez. These lyrics and that voice are just so timeless, yet also evocative of a staggeringly fertile period in musical history. I'm thankful I was born in time to hear these things.
I've known the song ever since I bought Blonde on Blonde back in the distant day but listening to Joan perform it was transformational, wonderful, thank you.
I am 66 years old and her songs accompanied my life since I was in the 20s. Her music was not just a kind of fashion for a decade. It will be touching for people dreaming like me.

I was a young draftee at Fort Gorden GA in 1969 when I first heard this and it touched me deeply. Did not hear again for over 20 years. Now i listen to it almost everyday.
Brilliant compilation of photos and the music is timeless especially her voice. Joan Baez was one of the first artists I fell in love with thanks to my older sister, who played it loads at home. Hauntingly perfect Dylan and Baez.
This song took up the entire side of a 33 rpm record in Dylan's album. The images conjured by Dylan the poet are breathtaking. This is a love song unlike any love song you've heard, or will ever hear. Thank you, Bob Dylan, and thank you Joan Baez for a beautiful performance of it!
I bought this album when it first came out. I loved her music then and love it to this day. Sadly, I don’t know anyone who shares my love of folk music...
No-one sings Dylan like Baez. It seems she is the only one who truly understands the songwriter's intentions. You've inspired me to drag out that album and play it again - "Any Day now" - a collection of Bob Dylan's song sung by Joan Baez.
Allan Briggs I cannot agree with you more. Same love of her Music; in which my Older Brother introduced me to Joan, Bob & I found Judy Collins and my absolute favourite Joni Mitchell .. we played their music in our home all through my teenage years... as we wax called to War ... He came home different; which I knew... a war changes every man. .. my Dad WW2 & my Brother Vietnam .... I still love their music and ever do miss the tunes of change ! We made a difference. .. we truly have done well bringing our Generation together!! Thank you, Allan . 🌟🧡🌟

Oh, the farmers and the businessmen, they all did decide
To show you where dead angels were that they used to hide
Why did they pick you to sympathize with their side?
Oh, how could they ever mistake you?
They wished you’d accepted the blame for the farm
But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm
And with the child of a hoodlum wrapped up in your arms
How could they ever have persuaded you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I leave them by your gate
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row
And your magazine-husband who one day just had to go
And your gentleness now, which you just can’t help but show
Who among them do you think would employ you?
Now you stand with your thief, you’re on his parole
With your holy medallion in your fingers now that hold
And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul
Oh, who among them do you think could destroy you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands
Where the sad-eyed prophets say that no man comes
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums
Should I leave them by your gate
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?

I play this often .... a wonderful voice .... Dylan's greatest song(IMO, but not to discount the others).

We lived in magical times....the confluence of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Once in a millennia. And we saw it unfold!
My 2 cents🤗
@@moryan6447 she would agree
I’m 75 years old now and I travel mine roads. But, your songs have warmed my heart throughout the may years. Thank you sad eyed lady!!

What a glorious voice. There will never be another like her. A joy and awonderful gift just to hear her. Thank you Joan.
The photo at 7:58 is glorious. It's like we are watching a very talented sleeping angel. There has never been anyone like Joan.
You can try Nur Yoldaş, they have similar voice and vibe in general. I'm sure you'll like it
Joan Baez's voice is a national treasure!
No, it´s a universal treasure.
Mondial et universel .
Superbe.
Mais arrêtez votre US First a only.
Vive le monde!
Joan makes this great song very much her own. Peerless, unforgettable and sublime.
Her eyes, her eyes, so pure, so expressive, that is enough to make me cry when I listen and watch.
Her voice is absolutely perfect.
It's important to remember that her greatest love was social justice & to do something about it.
What a blessing to read such appreciative comments, especially during this pandemic when we need to pull together more than ever.
fell in love with this lady about 50 years ago.
Beautifully stated.
Love he didn't deserve or receive.
He always felt incomplete in relationships,i believe he is a deeply lonely man,a hermit soul deep down
A beautiful rendition of this wondrous song - poetic, majestic, peaceful and joyous. Thank you Bob and Joan... xxxx
What a privilege to have lived through those times! The "high water mark" of civilization. Praise His holy name!
Love Joan Baez. Her voice goes into my heart and my soul.
come set beside me !
Yes! I feel this too! The Magic voice make me dreamer !
"Your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace." -- Bob, master of imagery.
Yeah, got that too
She interprets his songs so well. Such a talent, both of them.
Thank you again from Joan to Joan Baez
I am crying....this little gem touched my very soul.
you are not the only one to cry on this song. Me too!
kimberley blair yes protect this talent
There will never be two artists who were meant to find each other more than these two. Joan understood Dylan and he understood her. And together they helped turn the 60s into a brilliant musical wonderland for us all to enjoy. No one else could have mastered this song but Joan.
Every time I hear this song I cry.. 💔
Anyone who loves Joan Baez and Bob Dylan hopefully will see this ... again and again. Thank you for posting this beautiful video... Cheers!
Thank you!
hiwayshoes yes me also jean are singing for the Vietnam ar and she is prisoner for his thank you Joan your voie is so sweety!
Yep I keep playing this
I never heard this song sung by Joan Baez, it is magnificent. It's a good song when Bob Dylan sings it himself, but the way Joan sings it, is even better....
What a voice she brings back memories of my youth , I love her dearly
Joan, your voice is like velvet. It’s so beautiful, as you sing our your heart in “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands “. Ever so touching in my heart 🌟💐🌹🎼🎶
Baez usually aces her message in one take. This is my favorite one take ever, for anybody♥️
No voice compares with yours. Timeless beauty. Thank you Joan xx

Loved this lady with the fabulous voice, since I was 16 yrs old. I'm 75 now and still have an LP of hers. Scratched to hell, but I don't care.
The pics here are brilliant, and rare. So tuned in
I always loved dylan's rough take on his own song but Joan's voice is so exquisite...Beautiful cover
Some where near midnight her magnificent voice burst through the night air at Woodstock.... I stood there watching happy I made the journey to hear this beauty sing for us.....❣️
Matt Much wow.
it was a fine moment,
I was close to the speakers...it was worth the hearing loss.
How come all of the people commenting on this are knocking on a hundred years old.Not far off but if I were younger I would be happy to listen to Joan
Joan's voice and Dylan's composition - enough to soar my spirits!
John Lee Absolutely Heh. Try some Jackson Browne. Gawd he s good too
Song coupled with the photomontage is deeply touching to me. Makes me think of listening to Bob and her, together and separately since 1963. Only got to see either of them in in concert in recent years. Just gives me shivers to think of how much of heir music I have incorporated into my soul all these years.
Difficult listening to her message then, or now. What a treasure, an artist, this sad eyed lady truly is.
I think we all agree then. God bless
My first time hearing this song it just started playing and omg this is a heartbreaking song. Joan's voice
A classic from Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. A beautiful song.
I'm still listening Joan, during the wee hours. Still enthralled.
He wrote genius songs, she made them sound so beautiful..
Joan Baez made them!
This Godess caught me in the 60's,her beauty her smile and angelic voice now in my 80's hearing this song takes me back to my surrender
She sings not from the heart but from her soul. Her eventful life shows her songs are what she believes in.
Her voice is just as beautiful as her mind
Only one word for this, "MAJESTIC ".Good luck and peace to all nations from IRELAND. ☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪💚💚💚Stay Strong.
I'm 71. Wherever my musical journey takes me.. there's always a stopover for Dylan and Baez. These lyrics and that voice are just so timeless, yet also evocative of a staggeringly fertile period in musical history. I'm thankful I was born in time to hear these things.
Very good! From Brazil!
I am with you. We are lucky to have known these beautiful musicians

Utterly, utterly phenomenal. Dylan and Baez… a timeless and neck-tingling combination. 💜💜💜👏👏👏
I am 66 years old and her songs accompanied my life since I was in the 20s. Her music was not just a kind of fashion for a decade. It will be touching for people dreaming like me.
She sounds better live. It is almost magical. She is very beautiful and down to earth too.

Uf... Que maravillosa interpretación de tan maravilloso poema Del Genio Bob Dylan
I was a young draftee at Fort Gorden GA in 1969 when I first heard this and it touched me deeply. Did not hear again for over 20 years. Now i listen to it almost everyday.
Amazing !
Meravigliosa Joan, con la tua dolce voce musicale e con le tue forti parole di giustizia hai accompagnato le nostre generazioni
I bought this album when it first came out. I loved her music then and love it to this day. Sadly, I don’t know anyone who shares my love of folk music...
Now you know! Most of the comments here I suppose are from people who like folk music too
vpolynha True, but these are people on RUclips, not people I actually know.
I do!
She played more songs at Woodstock than anyone. The civil rights go back along time. She's been around!
Yes, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. I'm 70 - what would I have done without them?
I'm 73...for sure..what would I have done without them?
Me too, I so agree, those were the best of times
Oh yes. Fills my heart with joy 😻
Added Van Morrison, like I was lucky enough to have.

No-one sings Dylan like Baez. It seems she is the only one who truly understands the songwriter's intentions. You've inspired me to drag out that album and play it again - "Any Day now" - a collection of Bob Dylan's song sung by Joan Baez.
One of my favorite albums of all time
I always called it "MY WHITE album"
Great album.
What a beautiful song the perfect combination Bob Dylan's words and Joan Baez beautiful voice.

I still love their music and ever do miss the tunes of change ! We made a difference. .. we truly have done well bringing our Generation together!! Thank you, Allan . 🌟🧡🌟
The sound of an angel. Her voice is unbelievably beautiful.
I had never heard the Baez version of this song, but I always considered this to be the epitome of Dylan’s poetry.
