Don't hate me, but I think triumph is a step ahead of rush in some aspects. Rush had a better drummer and writer. But triumph had a far better singer who could play lead at the same time. That's tough. No disrespect to Alex. But Neil was another world writer. If he would have been in triumph thing would have gone very different. For the music world as a whole.

I fell in love with Rik Emmett when I saw the music video for Never Surrender. All my friend were into Van Halen but for me it was Triumph!! I was 15. In the fall of 1986, Triumph played my home town Phoenix, Arizona. I was 2 months pregnant with my second son. I went to the concert any way. It was so incredible!! And at one point Mike & Gil left the stage Rik played a 3 neck guitar solo that was mind blowing. Unfortunately the band broke up. I have followed Rik for years!! He was my first love!!! Check out the song NEVER SURRENDER.

70s 80s were the best times in rock music history. There are no true "rock" bands out there anymore. To be in an arena with 15k+ people to see the bands live and feel the music was a feeling like no other. We would wait in line all night in law chairs for tickets to concerts to try to get a front row seat. Triumph was so full of energy and always a blast to your face. I've seen them 3 times and they never let you down. This is their best hit in my humble opinion. Yes it is an original song and it is ONE song. Nice pic guys.

I live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the sixth-largest city in the country; it's borders Toronto to the west. Triumph is from Mississauga and they had a recording studio (it still exists) called Metalworks that was founded in 1978 by Triumph drummer Gil Moore. I interviewed Rik Emmett about 15 years ago at a music festival in Burlington, Ont. where I was a newspaper reporter. He was a very cool guy and talked to me at some length. At that point in his career he was playing a lot of jazz, blues, flamenco and classical guitar. He is a guitar virtuoso. Unfortunately, I never got to see them live when I was a teen and young adult. I don't know why. Stupid. Bottom line, Triumph's three members (including bassist Mike Levine) had a very acrimonious breakup with the group disbanding far too soon. They've never quite got their due because another contemporary Canadian rock trio named Rush had a bigger profile. Next up from Triumph should be Magic Power, Hold On, Never Surrender, Rocky Mountain Way (cover of Joe Walsh) and What's Another Day of Rock 'N Roll.

    •  2 года назад +2

I imagine Rush’s success here in the U.S. killed Triumph’s success.

They were a great band live. In a word: 'tight.' I'd strongly recommend doing a live version. The sound quality is just as good, and on stage they lengthen some of the songs with more performance, so seeing them is a treat because they are all highly skilled players and singers. All positive songs. Big hits. You can't go wrong.

Rush: Hawaii under pressure was another, along with the ZZ Top Eliminator concert in Aloha Stadium with opener Stevie Ray Vaughan, second was Run DMC, and then ZZ. Nothing like seeing ZZ spin their guitars in person. Intense concert. Three different crowds all in one place, and we all got along! Not like now.

Rik Emmett is one of the greatest musician/vocalist I've ever heard. The only person who can command the guitar, straight up sing and is an amazing showman is Prince and I put Emmett right up there with him. I don't know the whole story of the band's break up, but it had something to do with the band's direction, which caused a fallout between Emmett and Gil Moore. I feel if they stayed together, they could have reached Rush like status. When Emmett left, Phil X took over for him briefly. You might know Phil X as the guitarist that took over for Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi). Emmett went on to teach music at Humber College in Toronto, but still puts out albums here and there.
Rik Emmett vs Eddie Van Halen - In the early 80's there was a festival that both bands played. Eddie was already established as one of the premier guitarist. At the festival both guitarist did an extensive solo during their bands slotting. I suggest you watch it.... it's great.
From the same album (Allied Forces) is their most famous song "Magic Power". It's basically a rock anthem, you may have heard. I would definitely go with the live version from the same concert in Halifax.
Other Canadian band songs that will knock your sox off. Try:
The Kings - This Beat Goes On/Switching to Glide (it's 2 songs in one)
    Prism - Armageddon
Gordon LightFoot - Canadian Railroad Trilogy
    Saga - Wind Him Up

Rik Emmitt has called more people to the Lord than anyone of my generation. This song is possibly the best yet written! What a message in these CRAZY times. Speaking as a former touring metal musician, I NEVER saw or heard anyone in possession of this kind of talent. Seriously think about it: Lyrics, production, lead vocals with astonishingly precise and accomplished playing? Having watched them, up CLOSE, as close as possible actually I never saw or heard any perceptible mistake .....and all of us had on days and off days. Rik never suffered this ailment. 110% every song, every performance. It was an altering and simultaneously heartbreaking experience. I mean I came up hard and fast and I had to be a halfway decent player or...something ......when people are hurling this kind of cash around right?? If I practice 10 hours a day for another 30 years I wont be as good as Rik was in 1982. But I can tell you unequivocally the man has SERIOUS God given talent. I’ve NEVER seen anything like it...oh and he sings as well......REALLY well. He is EASILY an EVH caliber musician. And I hate that word: my father says it means “unemployed” so I never used it as I felt insulted maybe not worthy of that kind of praise. Rik is now and always has been a premiere musician of timeless talent.

You said it during the video, he's a Rock & Roll Machine so find their 1978 title song from the record "Rock & Roll Machine" and you'll enjoy Rick Emmett fully. On the same album another must listen is "The city: War march / El duende agonizante / Minstrel's lament"

The 4th man on the stage in Halifax was invited to tour with them for a time. They wrote a song together called 'Take a Stand.' His name is Rick Santers from Rainbow.

    • @funniebunnie4u
      @funniebunnie4u 11 месяцев назад +1

Nope... Not Rainbow... The band was Santers. He played keyboards too, on that tour. Rik produced their 1st album, where they did a remake of... Oof, I can't remember... Rocky Mountain Way?? Queensryche opened for Triumph, that year... In Texas. Annnywayz... 😁😁😁

You don't see it from the way this is shot, but the drummer Gil Moore also sings ( all members of Triumph sang at different points ) and in most cases sings the higher parts with Rik Emmett in chorus. Amazing band with great history.

They don't make them like Rik very often, once in a generation or so. Absolute prodigy on guitar and that voice! He often overshadows the other members of the band, but Gil and Mike are great as well, Glen has an fantastic voice and is a great drummer and Mike plays keyboards as well as bass.

I've been listening to this band for years, but never heard this. Wow....amazing performance by Triumph. As for the quality of this recording, it doesn't capture how great they sound live. There is no loss of quality in their live shows. Thanks for posting this reaction guys.
