Sooo, that wheel seal, in effect, eliminates the need for the ole’ “speedy-sleeve”…? This has been a great video series, the tuck sounds great..! Thank you sir. P.S., the video assistant has been doing an awesome job..! Thank you young lady.
I always do two tabs on those washers because that's how the old Caterpillar manuals called it, and in their shop publications they say why. If you only do one and the washer is of poor quality, there's a higher chance of the tab snapping under stress and the nut backing off. Now, it's true that that's for their era, when metallurgy wasn't as good as today, but... you know how sometimes they slip poor parts through the cracks and you don't know it until it does the doodoo dance on you. Also from the Cat manuals, they had a tool, but if you have an old chisel and you grind the end flat, you can use it (after you've pried away the tab) to bend it all the way down neatly. A cheapo chisel from the overseas will do. Cheers!
I like the fact you take time to explain your plan of actions and why they need to be done , most guys don't thanks for the video Chris From Cashmere WA
Great fix …l keep those grommet/seals in my pickup,,,,they fit Cummins and John Deere and my guys are always looking for them on our equipment,,,,glad you’re finding the end of this girl 😀 Ohh broken garage door windows?
Your right about the solder butt joints. I don’t use them anymore cuz I found the solder stared cracking after a couple years and caused me hours of headache in repairs….
i just couldnt trust solder that melts at such a low temp. i dont have enough time to do all the things i do want.....cant waste time going back over a repair.
I wish I lived close to you. I’m setting my pickup up for plowing snow and have an aluminum backrack that I am mounting a strobe emergency light, a cb antenna and maybe some LED backup lights also. I ordered an eight circuit upfitter switch from Auxbeam so I don’t have to drill in a bunch of switches into my dashboard. This way, most of the wiring stays under the hood.
Those lights might blind a farmer in the next county 😂. I have a single row 6” wide bar mounted high on the cab of my Toyota truck for an extra backup light, it’s brighter than the headlights and they are much brighter than stock.
Outstanding! My shop will look like that as soon as the Temps in the lower teens goes away. I'm old and beat to crap so I tend to be a bit conservative. There isn't any project worth getting pneumonia over. My wife was very ill and had multiple hospital stays some of which I stayed over with her, along with up to 8 appointments a week and I never got sick. It would have been a nightmare had I got sick as I was her sole caregiver. I was lucky as hospitals are full of sick people....go figure. She passed in September and other than a defective gall bladder my health has held. I like it that way😁. Again, nice job on the truck! Cheers Terry from chilly South Carolina.
I applaud your work! I can hardly keep up with the cars I have so I can't imagine having trucks to repair and maintain. Everything is huge and weights a ton.
yeah its big, its heavy and expensive but it sure is enjoyable to me. this one isnt mine. it belongs to a friend. he is trying to build a business and needs some help. i am happy to say it is strong and growing. hope you and your wife are staying warm in this cold blast.
I owned a 1979 F1954 international tandem with a DT466, Eaton 613 transmission and 6.13 gears. It would go 55 mph at 2750 rpm’s. I felt like I was pushing that truck with my foot mashing so hard on the throttle. Lol
Oh, I bet it's nice to have a clean shop J.C! 😁👍 Glad to see you've opened that bay up for another project. Can't wait to see what you work on next my friend. Happy wrenching 🔧🔩
You might be able to fix that back up light switch by adding a diode in series with the reverse light bar. It might have capacitors inside it that discharge through the light in the switch.
great tools my Grandson is a heavy Duty tech fallowed in my footsteps went to Collage to learn the trade too k over alot of my tools an he loves that brand an swears by themi used all air tools batterey tools are allot better God Bless An best
sounds like she is running great, light bar came out really nice too. that shifter would drive me straight up the wall in about 60 seconds though...lol
JC you'll love that Fuel series drill. Hope ya got good strong wrists! Lol. Even when ya think ya got a good hold on it, it will still surprise you with the torque it has. I took a battery upside my cheek/nose full trigger and almost full circle swing after it wrenched itself loose from my two handed grip using a 4" hole saw thru 3/16 diamond plate and the saw grabbed in the cut. I even seen it coming and still couldn't jerk my head outta line fast enough. My own dumb fault for the position I put myself in.
Hey!...just found your channel. I binge-watched the frame repairs on this Peterbilt-----WOW, awesome work!. Thanks for posting such a high quality job with so much supporting information. One day I might have to ask your opinion on my Brockway project....
Great video J.C.Smith glad to see finishing steps with the Peterbilt. Always enjoy watching you do wiring and lights on this truck. Those backup lights really look great. It's very satisfying when you have an empty bay in your shop. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
Porter Cable before Black & Decker bought them they made a saw just like the saw you are using im talking 15 years ago only way i ever messed up a blade material got loose. i did stair railings with steel balasters
@@j.c.smithprojects From someone 10 hours away from you to the left. Just from your work on this truck, at least five different buildings locally if I were to have the same work done. At least.
Your engine repairs seem to have turned out well. The 2 big cams we have will fill the shop with smoke in a minute or 2 to the point you can’t see across the shop
@@j.c.smithprojects not the international with the tank, the international in the shop you pointed to at the end, that’s the old runaway truck that the head had to be fixed up and put back together isn’t it?
another question when i bar the engine to the letter A if my values on cylinder 5 are open and the injector on cylinder 3 is down would that mean i the valves on cylinder 2 should be closed and the injector on 4 would be up so that’s where i would start my adjustments ?
Perhaps someone has asked this question already,....if not, why are those headlights so high?...........as a Duel fan, those high headlights drive me nuts!
6:27 also if you watch their video and take the test and become “certified” then if it fails they cover the cost of the seal and your brakes for 3 years
I know you’re glad the Peterbilt is finished ✅ it sounds so much better than before and cleaner. Looking forward to seeing the next project video.
Those ridiculous headlights have to go……😂😂😂
Holy smokes... Finally somebody that knows how to install a rubber clad seal! 👍🏻 A rare find

That truck sounds great now and the clean painted engine is much nicer to look at and work on ! The light fab on the back worked out nice too 👍
You do good work and needs to be more people like you. Thanks for good videos.
I wonder how many different shops he would have to take that truck to get all those different things done
never considered that it would need to go to different places instead of just one. shows how little i know about other shops abilities.

Those solder butt connectors break the heat shrink when you crimp them, still has corrosion problems. Solder and heat shrink for me
I know you’ve said he doesn’t want to do anything with the headlights but that could be decent looking truck if he’d move them.
yep. completely different truck with the headlights where they belong.
The front of the truck looks like a frog with the headlights up where they are.
"sid" from ice age
😎👍
What would you think about mounting lights using crush nuts?
i only use those when there is no other option.
Be interesting to see if the old runaway international gets running again?
its been on the road for years now. its next big task is removing the gutless 6v92 and installing a 400 hp big cam.

check your accessory drive. someone may have put it in and not lined up the marks.
