Nothing worse than customer calling saying something you've worked on is not right. I know the feeling. Luckily it was something other than what you worked on. Nothing better than an old TV box for a creeper. The shiny cardboard lets you slide!! lol
I like your solutions, fixing on the fly and professionally letting him know your limitations. Glad to see you concentrating on your projects. Thanks again
JC, so sorry this old 😅friend worried you like he did, he guessed the issue was caused by your last repairs without knowing any facts. I have had friends like this myself when I was 24 hour towing company and some repairs. So many people took me for granted and it finally broke my spirit to help. As I recall this person hasn't taken your advice on his truck and it's bitten him in his rear end. He'll never find someone as fair & decent as you are so now he's on his own.. fantastic job of course. I can only hope you have a tire warranty to cover damage to the vans tire. How'd you get the truck back to the shop? I can only guess..😮.
this is what i guarantee, i have a ton of trucks to build and i am focused on that, my viewer event and a car i said i would help fix. i cant be distracted by any other new commitments
Thanks for the video. Good to see that customer go down the road. He does not listen to your advice and is unwilling to fix things properly. You also need to enjoy your personal and family life.
after watching you do all that work an how detailed you are in your work THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOUR WORK IS TO BLAME and lo n behold there it was a different part broke from fatigue
Good call. When he burns up that engine from low water it won't be your baby anymore! Cause I'm sure those guys aren't checking the water level every day like they're supposed to and the rad is leaking now 🤦🏻♂️🤣
Can you imagine how much less work people would have if drivers actually did "pre flight" style walkarounds their vehicles before kicking them in the guts?
Great video J.C.Smith the Peterbilt with problems. But you were able to figure it out and fix it for the owner. Thanks for sharing stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
Super job at adapting and making that work out of nothing and putting it back together great great work. Not many could do that! Don't blame you at all very difficult to fit into everybody else's schedule without it completely destroying your own!! All the best from Canada
JC, I know that feeling. The what did I miss and how do I fix it feeling. It eats at you until the problem is fixed. Almost convinces one not to do that type of work anymore but, we keep doing it anyway.
I had one of our mack tandems do the same thing this winter only it tore about 2/3s of the way around and the pulley was in there shaking after it ripped the belts off. It’s a plow truck front drive pto and it was a joy to change
Good on ya for giving that guy the HEAVE HO at last was long over due. He asked you to go against your better judgements way too often, since you are an honorable man you did the right thing in spite of him crying POOR all the time. Please enjoy the lack of stress and strain of Not having his junk cluttering your shop or mind!
Our big cam broke the crank pulley several years ago of course I didn’t realize the pulley was separate from the damper so I got the damper and then had to order the pulley. At least it was in a 9370 so there was enough room. I didn’t have to mess with the radiator
How many times could you have told this guy "i told you soo" glad your finally done with him cause he doesn't appreciate anything you do. Roadside wouldnt have touched it. And a shop would have been weeks out and here you are saving the day for no appreciation
I think we'll find that as our supply chain continues to diminish making a fixing the old stuff will be invaluable. It's still worth it to run the old big cams but you gotta go through them good. Not on a tight budget. That one sounds alot better than the one I used to drive. That thing sounded like it was full of rocks. 😂
That Cummins alternator pulley is a common breakage . Hit the pulley bolts with a 1/2” impact wrench , it will be fine . The adapter will also be fine .
That is the worst feeling , when you just put something back together and are told there is a noise , Had a buddy with a Western Star with that same exact problem, he was already to pull the pan and found a shiny spot on the pulley were it had cracked. Not a great design. Thanks for sharing.
The damper and balancer is always a neglected part. That worn out damper may have helped wear those bearings out. I replaced mine at Pittsburgh Power when i bought my truck.
I figured that be the truck you had problems with. I needed a rear brake job on the long weekend. I paid a mobile mechanic and bought the parts myself. My regular garage was too busy.I would have paid double. Im in new england. Prices are higher and parts can be hard to find,no matter the costs.
That is very true with that 10% of your client/customer base. Especially when the 100% refuse to listen to your advice and want everything done to less than the bare minimum.
I know the feeling. As usual, the info is not always correct. Drivers are not the best source of diag info. As a field mechanic, when you get to the job site everything is different. Thanks, the old school guy.
I know exactly what that drive felt like. That’s a mechanic’s nightmare getting a call like that. Running an old truck isn’t for the weak kneed. It costs a lot of money and it will always be an old truck.
Well sir…, you would be “the-guy”, to make that repair…, but my god Cummins, really, could you skimp a little more on parts quality…? Probably a part that they sub-out to a Chinese manufacturer… Great work Mr. Smith..!
you have a problem that very few have anymore condition called Big Heard no i am not talking about a medical condition it is a personal problem you want to help everyone you can i have seen it since the first video i ever watched it is something that can't be fixed. same reason you are doing the class on welding and frame work
You told him to r&r the motor and rad and he said nope don't want to spend the money now. His don't want to spend the money now is coming back to bite him in the rectum. He is now going to have to potentially spend more money to fix it than it would have originally cost. By not r&r the engine it's just going to be a chain of failures until it gets a blue tooth con rod
That's why I don't work on other people stuff you Start something that you can't finish when you do that And they're constantly calling needing something I fix my own junk and that's it even my daughters know how to work on their stuff I taught them at a early age you better learn how to fix ur cars because dad won't be around for ever or learn how to have deep pockets and a good paying job
To be a mechanic these days a person needs to carry an XXLarge jar of vaseline with them as everybody is trying to screw you over! Dont recommend anybody to become a mechanic anymore as it is never respected as a licensed professional trade.
This truck is the gift that just keeps on giving
Just like that one night in TJ

What a relief !!! I figured it wouldn't be anything you did !!
This truck is going to haunt you until they blow it up! You are the man, JC!
Somebody’s been in there and doing enough to get by. Good that you made that the last time.
Much appreciated JC And Mrs Smith. That "EMPTY FEELING" In the pit of your stomach, really hurts.

Customer states engine blew up after shop installed new tires.
Hi JC thank you for sharing 🤗

Hi jc sometimes no is the hardest thing to say but you have to look after yourself 1st . Cheers mate🇦🇺
Take a weekend off, take your wife out for BBQ and bring a bite home for the puppy. You earned a break. Be it unplanned, you are blessed.
no time right now. getting ready for this event is taking all the spare time we have right now.

at 6:25 that is the deluxe "low profile" creeper ... I have that too !
i decided to use the "easy slide" side on this creeper.

I sort of feel your pain but on a smaller scale. Rebuilt a friend’s zero-turn motor. Now I’m his live-in mechanic, apparently. 🤷🏻♂️
only as long as you keep saying yes.
That is the worst feeling , when you just put something back together and are told there is a noise , Had a buddy with a Western Star with that same exact problem, he was already to pull the pan and found a shiny spot on the pulley were it had cracked. Not a great design.

That was good detective work. Well done.
Hello J.C, will you be getting back to your personal Topkick/Kodiak project? Keep up the great work!
The truck of perpetual responsibility
At least he didn't put a rod cap on backwards!
Sometimes the best thing to do is fire your customer.
That is very true with that 10% of your client/customer base. Especially when the 100% refuse to listen to your advice and want everything done to less than the bare minimum.
That truck is like Christine it never goes away……
100 % truth

Glad it wasn't some kinda catastrophic failure of a bearing J.C 🔧🔩 Nice job on welding it back together
Understandable that he jumped to the wrong conclusion and panicked.
children junp to conclusions. adults assess the situation and make a plan to correct it.
@@j.c.smithprojects Yep, not grown-up thinking.
Holiday weekend JOB..?
Huh ?
Well done , nuff said

That will give you a gray hair.
Considering I’m pretty sure I passed this truck yesterday, this is a damn shame. Hopefully everything works out at some point
I hate when someone blames you for the work you did before you even know what's wrong. Investigate it then assign blame if needed.
either trust the man who did the work will stand behind it or FIND SOMEONE ELSE!
@@j.c.smithprojects 100% agree.
Replace the vibration dampner , when they lock up they cause a lot of problems
sometimes we get lucky /good work
I saw the Nice Front Bumper is bent!
you mean for the 8th, 9th, 10th or whatever time? i quit straightening it.
Thank you for sharing
I see you got the same outdoor creeper as me.
yeah. they come in all different varieties.
Well sir…,
you would be “the-guy”, to make that repair…, but my god Cummins, really, could you skimp a little more on parts quality…? Probably a part that they sub-out to a Chinese manufacturer…
Great work Mr. Smith..!
Having those headlights mounted like that seems like a sin
You just need to clone yourself and you will be able to do it all. Nice job
Excellent diagnosis & workmanship. Hopefully owner realizes your invaluable contribution!
i no longer work on his trucks. i cant continue to disrupt my work any more.
No good deed goes unpunished....
glad it wasn't a bearing.
Things always happen at the busiest time.
I've not been into your, invite folk thing, good idea though.
Anyway,I feel that you are more a troubleshooter,Savior to those earning a living.
JS
I’m sure he took that well. Hope you got paid like an on call roadside repairman.
I need a guy like u J.C
if you find him, appreciate him, pay him what he wants, respect him and DONT BE CHEAP!
Instead of “I’m not a welder” should’ve started this one with “ I am not a road tech”
I HOPE YA HAD A COLD ONE AFTER DODGING THAT BULLIT…. Cheers
nope. on to the next thing to be fixed.
Doesn't it seem to always happen you need parts on a long weekend.
Yup. Can’t afford to have customers like that.
Driving the samw van i got, mines a 2018 i bought new, jus got to 480k miles lol
Spare truck frame on the ground
He ever wash it?
Do you know what it needs???
Yes I know what it needs, It needs a new mechanic.

Just do your own trucks save your self the headaches. I hate working for people. Big companies and my own stuff is my rule of thumb.
Looks like this guy is just going to run this truck into the ground,,Best leave him at it,,

doesnt matter what profession your in, there is lack of respect. just as much lack of respect for the customer as well.
