The first thought that popped in my head as I was watching was I bet he’s thinking of putting the COE KW cab on it. If it were me I would put a Cat (3406e or c15) with an 18spd in it, but you’ll do what makes sense for you! I’m hopeful that this constitutes a future build series and excited to to tune in for it if you do film a series on it!
Dear J.C. Smith projects family. 👍👌👏 It was a wise decision not to put in the other Freightliner engine (the inframe remanufactured one). Because they're so valuable to other people, you seem to be able to easily it too. Hope you will sell all the other parts well and fast. Of course I'm very curious about your Kenworth rollback truck build and I'm happy to hear that another video series is coming. As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all 3 of you.
I’m one that really doesn’t care what anyone thinks about what I do, that being said, I follow your logic and I see what you like about the frame. There are a lot better options for power but I’m sure you have something in mind. It will be interesting to see what direction you go with it. Great content, keep it coming brother!
Laying under a truck. I've started using those rubber fatigue mats that interlock 2 x 2 squares. Really cheap at harbor Freight. Night and day difference in the comfort and did I mention cheap comfort
Looks like a big project, but you seem to have a plan. Will you have to separate the double frame to rust proof to make it last? Going pre emission on the engine will free up a lot of space too. Looks like I need to divert some of the trucks that are heading to Mexico that are rust free.
my father was a lot like you. he was in the automobile salvage business remember he sold the 440 out of our family car because the same reason someone wanted a low mileage engine he had others ran good sold motor put in high mileage motor drove for years then parted out later on when engine finally was bad made money in the end.
I forgot about the cabover until you started talking about frame specs. That's a perfect chassis for that project. It'll take a good bit of modification, but that's no issue for you. I'm looking forward to this series as usual. Thanks J.C.!
I hit pause and looked up that engine with 250 k on it.😮😮😮😮. I don’t think the average person understands how much DEF system components cost. I know you don’t talk pricing but I can look up stuff as you go along and get a pretty good understanding of how to price parts trucks now.
Great video J.C.Smith really enjoy watching you disassemble this truck and pull the cab and engine to fulfill your plans for a cabover rollback. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
The end project is going to basically pay for itself, it sounds like a lot of work but you get a great late model double chassis, put an old school cabover cab on a better chassis, get a better drivability gearbox and engine combo you want without the exhaust treatment bullsheet it’s a win win, you work for yourself at your own pace 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 keep up the great work old boy 😛😛😛
Ha! I guessed correctlty! I like watching you do the big truck builds instead of gthe medium duty. They appear to frustrate you more but also seem more of a challenge, not just the same ole same ole.
when you have a shop and the correct equipment pulling an engine is easy!!! I have told people "I would rather pull your engine out then change the spark plugs on your FWD V6."
Hi jc i was thinking when you pulled it apart it was going to transform into the kw rollback an old iron trucking on yt lowered his brown kw front end a few weeks back with a air ride kit . Cheers mate🇦🇺
I would have chopped that in a minute if I could find someone willing to buy a green Mercedes man to be able to get rid of headaches and get money that's a win win hats off to you
About $18,500 is what I’m seeing for a 2012 dd13 at 252k so major score. At the end of the day you had what they wanted so they had to pay up end of story I’m sure he was happy with it and hopefully it gets him more time driving down the road then being stuck on the side of it. I honestly don’t think you have to explain yourself or feel bad on that kinda stuff bud. I really dig the newer intro style you’re doing by the way.
Hi, good afternoon just love You're logic and train of thought I wish I was more flexible and better at walking I would be over to see you as the work you do is second to none you and Co must be the best team on here take care and don't listen to these snipers it's a decision that works for you regards🇬🇧🏴👍🎥
great job and video as always been trying to get our fl 70 series liner firetruck to quit shooting trans codes but someone told me it might be a ground issue your thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated chris from cashmere
intermittent issues are not uncommon with wiring problems. disconnect the harness from each end and start checking for continuity, short to each other, short to ground, open and the ability to carry a load.
no. i just moved it for an upcoming build. the uhaul is going to be for same as a cab and chassis. i am onlky putting a bed on it if it doesnt sell quickly.
I’m no mechanic …for the most part I have no idea what you’re doing most of the time…but I love listening to someone who is so knowledgeable with a plan in place….great vid
I'm guessing that the person who did the third grade wiring job has been teaching how to install wiring in trucks based on some of the work I have seen over the years.
I think that it is absolutely you and your wife and family's decision about what you do with your business and cash and nothing to do with any of us viewers whatsoever.
Wow that wiring is a big mess, was it a big name shop who fitted the rollback body??? You would have thought that they would have put the electronics inside the cab somewhere in its own fuse panel out of the weather 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Perhaps I have been watching you to long or I'm speaking from working on other people's hack jobs but if you're going to do something do it right either for the next guy that's going to own it or for the guy that has to fix your broken stuff when you can't
I honestly believe our OCD can and is probably a gift when you think it out from a different point of view. If it all works out for you, Biden no longer in office as a .... ah lets not go there. I always thought of DEF as a "Dumb engineering 'fubar' idea of selling corn syrup as a additive in fuels that only get worse from day one. I know you remember this crazy guy in alaska and have been kind in your responses to my questions. I am not against computer operated engines but they have their place. I have seen a old murphy diesel engine that sat for a good forty years. I checked its vitals, hooked up a jumper cable starting system... it rolled about three pistons coming up to fire, not roll the whole engine over three times.... just barely turned and fired up and ran great. Not too sure just what wide open throttle was but it was turning about three hundred at a high idle and for my best guess, about seven hundred something at wide open throttle. It was in a old shovel, a big orange and black unit that the name no longer comes to mind. I will remember after posting but its not so important. You two always make me smile..... keep em coming kids

I agree with your engine choice, unless, JC has a K model Cummins lurking about in his collection.
Or a C-18 CAT.
This will probably ruffle some feathers. I gotta admit I was a little sceptical at first but I like where this is headed. Look forward to seeing more

Man that would be sweet to see the cabover on that frame. Hope it works out
One step closer to your kenworth cabover rollback. 👍🏻

Can't wait to see the build! I know they aren't as practical as a conventional truck these days but I love cabovers

It's nice a project pays for itself.
The patented JC Smith side quest! If upfitters were compentent, there would be many more unemployed service techs...
This makes a lot of sense. You are making the roll back more reliable, even given the higher mileage engine. And you made money.
Your plan has me smiling so hard my face hurts!!
I'm more than excited to see this come together.
You should take this opportunity and make the harness bullet proof.
for sure.
A cabover rollback project will be sweet. Can't wait to see it when you get there.

I said that you were going for the cab over on that frame. Great idea for the already beefed up axles.

Thanks for sharing JC !!! I really learn a lot about engines
Yes I enjoyed and thanks.
Hope to see the cab over built. This will be sweet mechanical engine no emissions. What year model is your kw cab

It will be a nice truck when you get it done who cares what the hatters think it's your truck your money and what you want

Thank you for show me how to get that motor of the truck. As im 65yeats old and tou make my dsy. Kitchdner ont
At 212K miles any other diesel would be just broken in --but being a DD it's just broken !!!
It doesn't take much more time to THINK about where to run extra wiring and make the job visually pleasing.
You get angry. Surely not 😂
im one of those people who is really calm.....until i am not. then i am really "uncalm:.

no
My guess is that that cab will be for sale and he’s gonna put the coe Kenworth cab on

It is your builds not theirs. You build and sell what benefits you not anyone else.
On a job like that, if you change to an older engine would the emissions requirements follow the body or the engine?
No.
The age of the engine is the deciding factor on emissions.
This is just like building a glider kit truck.
