@@prevost8686 series 60 came along after the mechanical engine. Detroit Diesel was still running 2 stroke 8V-71&8V92 to compete back then. With that being said. I love my series 60 Detroit!
Definitely brings back memories when I was growing up and riding with my heroes who taught me how to drive. Pretty much every weekend one of us would have our fuel pump taken apart if we had gotten out pulled somewhere during the week LOL. So much more fun and Outlaw then plugging into a computer😁.
Love this guy , straight forward ,direct and gets it done with great knowledge and experience . Best part of all is , he shares that knowledge . I have a Pete 358 getting ready to drop a fresh 350 small cam with a 15 speed . Presently it has a 5 and 4 . I would like to keep the aux trans if I have room . I am on a Island with large mountains (Volcano's) so a few extra gears will be welcomed at my experience level . I need all the help I can get .
Excellent video Ezra, I have heard some of my older friends talking about springs and buttons and never knew what they were talking about, “Old Red” is a lucky truck👍👍
Lots of good info in this video. I love messing with the p-pumps on the Cummins. You can really unlock some power from p-pump mods. Really excited to see you build this thing when you in-frame it. Gonna be good shit. 👍👍
Your truck is gorgeous! That’s one of my favorite things about the 855 Big Cam is how reliable they are and easy to beef up. My fire department just retired our 1973/74 Howe International Hendrickson with a Small cam NTF365 that I was able to tune it up to 400 horsepower. Smoked hard and only pulled about 1,050/1,100 ft pounds, it had an Eaton 906B 5 speed. It’s just sitting at the yard since 2017 😭. Great video! Keep her running strong
LMAO. Back 45 years ago. The first thing we used to do was change to a number 10 button and some shims. Usually wound up with a number 5 button and shims. JUST SAYING. 🇺🇸🤔🤣👍
Man The stuff you know about trucks, diesel engines and associated equipment to keep the wheels turning is amazing!! Speaking of wheels Are you sure you didn't invent the wheel??! Lol Love your videos Ez! Cheers from Sydney Australia! 🇦🇺🦘🐨🇦🇺🇺🇸
Back in the day on my big Cam one I pull the bell of the pump and I would pull 5 washer's Sometime more off the shaff for more fuel and put me a 10 button in , I never did mess with the throttle shaft and she only had like a vapor smoke and In the mountains she really pulled good , I would only let it heat up to about 950 on the pro. I know you can go to 10 or 10.5 on the old school Cummins and let them run, but I never did do that always backed out, I got to admit This is the best page for knowledge i been on , Some of these guys that do not know what's going on with there truck they are Definitely learning from you keep up the good work be safe
I got a big Cam 350, I put a "0" button in it & a white spring, backed off the Anoroid valve about three threads, shimmed to ,2450 rpm without a load! Shifts at 2100, love it! With 355 gears & a 13 speed od trans and tall rubber she is a Screamer! About 15 feet of black smoke out of the stacks between shifts! An.old truckers TOY!
Thanks for the video buddy. Buying an 79' k100 cabover thats got a big cam 400 in it. They said it has a 444 head. I believe it's going to be a good deal in the end. subscribed!
Good stuff Ezra. 🤩 Hey, if you ever want someone to help you for a week or so , I would be interested. I’m sure there would be many of your followers that would enjoy doing the same thing. Just think of all the projects you could get into. 🧐🤩
I always ran a 13 button in my big cam 400! Seemed to work great, made about 500 hp with the other mods you mentioned ! Just sayin'! 42 years over the road .
I wish we could talk more in terms of foot pounds of torque and where in the rpm range. That is the measurement of force that is really getting the work done on this truck.
That's kinda a loaded statement. Hp is a mathematical formula of tq/rpm. Same horsepower will pull a grade at the same speed but less tq will be in a lower gear. Average power across the curve has a lot more to do with how two engines will perform different at the same horsepower. But that relationship of tq/hp and how it relates to performance could almost be a 20 min video all in itself
It would just be nice to hear the torque this thing puts out and what the increase would be from your mods. I’m more impressed by the torque numbers on any engine, and how flat the curve is.
Great work go with 12 .. and not to disrespect driver out there . They prob never so mechanical pump .. u should add if diafram goes out there a screw under pump to put it on manual
I truly enjoyed the lesson. I now know more about the Cummins big cam than I knew before. Thanks a lot. Did the oil consumption stayed the same? Was wondering if it did improve a bit with the new turbo.
that fuel button u showed us-is that what the older fellas back when i first started out trucking(85) they talked of putting a stinger in their pumps back then? i never get tired of seeing that new red paint.
I love watching your stuff. I was hoping that maybe Id get some inspiration for my fuel pump but mine is clearly made with black magic voodoo....no idea how to adjust it yet LOL. Its a Bosch inline 6 and I do know its underfueled big time because I get about 20mpg on a 20.000lb bus. (Sounds great, but no...it has no uphill power at all). But one thing at a time...still have to find a leak..and then modify the brake cylinders. I have a hunch its one or both of them...and these brake cans look nothing like on a US rig...theyre like 18-20 inches long, and 8 inches round. Huge things...Why couldnt I get a 359? Why? lol
What's up man I was wondering if you could give me any idea of how far you recommend turning out those adjustment needles to where it's still safe. I'm trying to research it myself but not having much luck
I'm resealing my PT pump and figured i'd change the button..It has a 15 in it now..It had a tan painted tamper wire on it and the ball is still in the shaft so I'm assuming it has bever been changed..Should I go with a number five button?
Ezrider and twinsticks in the same morning. Good start to a cold morning
Twinsticks has a power steering problem on his 359....check out his latest upload maybe you can suggest something.
For not having a helper/camera guy, you do great to show us what your doing! Thank you 😊
one of the most underrated channels going..just a good hard working Dude..admiration
Very true
Absolutely definitely worthy of way more subs than it has
Everyone loves the cat but man the old 855 cummins was the real work horse
Both were great engines as well as the Series 60. They were all million miles plus engines when they were properly taken care of.
@@prevost8686 series 60 came along after the mechanical engine. Detroit Diesel was still running 2 stroke 8V-71&8V92 to compete back then. With that being said. I love my series 60 Detroit!
Cats, Cummins, Gardner, Rolls Royce and Perkins everyone else playing catch up respectively for their times
Perfect timing-just sat down for lunch👍
Enjoy!
Am I the only one that hits like b4 I watch lol
No
Not at all.
You obviously know the answer, and it's no
Nope
Great video Mr Ez. Always learning new things watching your channel.. Cheers!!
Learn something every time I watch you great video
Love your videos very educational and top marks for your presentation greetings from Australia
The amount of knowledge is one thing. Thr rase of explanation and teaching I'd a whole other level. This guy is a wealth if amazing know how.
I sure am thankful for people like you. Just bought a 86 359 with a big cam 3 and looking for this exact information.
Twinsticks and Ezra all in the same morning, how much better could life get?!?! Great job Ezra! Stay safe brother.
You beat me to it, great morning, plus an FSC SpeedShop video, all uploaded this morning, Bonus.👍👍👍
Was thinking just that!! Double dose of Pete!
Hey go for the gusto, skip the numbered "Buttons" and put a "Stinger" Button in it,and let that 359 roll.
Definitely brings back memories when I was growing up and riding with my heroes who taught me how to drive. Pretty much every weekend one of us would have our fuel pump taken apart if we had gotten out pulled somewhere during the week LOL. So much more fun and Outlaw then plugging into a computer😁.
Always great videos for watching and most important learning. Thank you so much.

Love this content keep it coming. RUclips needs more content about big cam Cummins motors
Love your videos. We run a 1985 freightliner cabover with a big cam 4 and I love that motor.
Informative, and well spoken again, thanks for sharing again, stay safe .
Excellent video Ezra very informative thanks y'all be safe out there bud 🚚🚛🚚🚛
Beautiful truck from a great era, I’m looking to do the same with a COE, cheers from Alberta
Man I would have killed for this sort of thing in the 80s when I was running these....you have some solid knowledge, thanks for posting.
Good looking truck. Have a good day
Great video. Good job. We used to put #10 buttons in and they would run!
Trucks beautiful man. My favorite youtube channel. 👍
Excellent video Ezra, I have heard some of my older friends talking about springs and buttons and never knew what they were talking about, “Old Red” is a lucky truck👍👍

Unbelievable I think it would be great to hang with the knowledge and his experience you are so correct
That will make that Cummins pull a lot better with those big loads 👍👍

Old red looking awesome nice job 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
I've had 855 based engines and really like them. My first was a 400hp Big Cam 4.

Mr Ezra Cool video. Thanks for sharing and stay safe
Thanks for your support
Always a good video.. Thanks
In Holland we had that 14 liter engine in 1994 in a DAF 95.500. 500hp. Was a good truck in them days.
Great job Ezra! :) Ole rig *purrs* now! Stay safe out there on the roads. Talk to you later.
Good to see other grain haulers that know what they’re doing. It’s a dying breed.
Rebuild sounds like serious power.
Nothing like driving a truck that really performs well stick with it Ezra she should be going well now "RB" "downunder"stay safe man
That's a lot more horses than I had on a old Diamond T back in 1968 lol
!
Another great video
Thanks for the really nice wideo.
🤠🤠🤠👍
Get the dual fuel line kit from pittsburgh power if you haven't already. Really seems to help them old cummins. Really enjoy your channel.
And just like that Bob's Your Uncle . Good job Sir if I did that job half the parts would be lost in the shop.
My gosh that one hell of a sexy truck now
Great video 👍

Bsafe out there.....
Great video!!

Trying not to make real big power till after I inframe it
Yes sir cool video 👍
👌🏻😎🇨🇱another great video.
Now you have me waiting on the turbo video, got the fuel pump turned up on mine but the EGT keeps climbing. I need a bigger turbo. Thanks
Well said, Well done! Enjoyed Cheers! ;-)!
I have turned a lot of those PT pump up I like those pump
Just a liquid filled 250psi gauge attached to to 1/8 npt test port on the shut off solenoid
I quote another of my fave RUclipsrs when I say "Mo Powah Babeh!
You should of put #5 button in there, makes a big difference in power💪
You know your shit. Looking forward to your next.
Awesome! Hammer down EZ!
Could put a couple extra washers behind the high rpm spring to pop the pressure up a tad.
When you rebuild the motor fluorescent green would look saweet!
Some high flow 300cc injectors a holset ht4C some pump work advance timing & good coolant & she will haul anything
Changed my steering box a year ago. Took me about 3 days long haul driving to get ALL the air out.
Give it time before you go tearing everything apart

How you doing buddy good to see you an ole red
Nice mabe I’ll change mine 🤷♂️

Yes but a stinger is a# 0 button they are for only industrial that fire off on full power , they will not idle.!!!
I'm researching turbo and pump tricks for a 3406B. The block is basically new
Awesome job as always..nice to old red earning a crust for ya ....how's it on power with the( cracker jack Mack) u think 🤔
😎👌
Check out blaylock turbo. Put a switchblade on my bc3 and I'm pushing over 40 psi on the boost spools up awesome
Did you have to grind on the turbo to be able to hook it up. And also did you go up in injectors size with the ht60
I love watching your stuff. I was hoping that maybe Id get some inspiration for my fuel pump but mine is clearly made with black magic voodoo....no idea how to adjust it yet LOL. Which way do you turn the No Air screw for more throttle response?
ill be doing the same to my trucks at some point
they are really simple pumps to work on.
Back in the day, guys use to put a dime in the return line.
You should stretch the spring a little and buy a 10 button that will live in it up a little.
What's up man I was wondering if you could give me any idea of how far you recommend turning out those adjustment needles to where it's still safe. I'm trying to research it myself but not having much luck
Hey there , love your content brother. What cable are you using to control throttle from pedal?
Which port did you tap into when installing the dual fuel line
Add a few shims , let er turn up a bit more 👍🏽
After the in-frame and other mods: “Here kitty, kitty”
I'm resealing my PT pump and figured i'd change the button..It has a 15 in it now..It had a tan painted tamper wire on it and the ball is still in the shaft so I'm assuming it has bever been changed..Should I go with a number five button?
Just wondering where you got your cruise control system ?
Playing with fire dont get burned what that rail pressure or new cam for big cam will be in the future.
