Growing up my Ma always reused plastic containers wether it was cool whip bowl or country crock butter so whatever leftovers we had weren’t marked so I had to open them all till I find what I wanted to eat lol 😂 when she passed away when we cleaned out the kitchen cabinets they were tons of plastic containers that she kept over the years.
I love how you prepare for your trips you never know what you need. When we had older vehicles I always packed everything that I would need from car jack to fluids oil toolbox parts cleaner because you never know when you’re going to be stranded or someone else is in need of help.
The one thing I like about this channel? Is he is a honest man and very talented. Keep up on what you do. I myself learn more information I did not know. And it’s very helpful. Much respect.
That trailer will be handy for your tractor and SXS's J.C 🙂👍 Don't blame you for just buying both of the drums. I hope you and Mrs. S have a great weekend. Take care 🔧🔩
If someone thought you were using anything other than bearing grease, then welcome to the channel. Looks like you already have a well thought out plan to make this work for you. Thanks
Learning about how wiring works on trailers is enjoyable to because I am eventually going to start my own business and I need to know how to do this stuff.
JC, so glad you always go the extra mile for a fully functional unit! Whatever you touch comes out way better than it was! I really appreciate your attention to detail and safety!
Great video J.C.Smith really enjoy watching you get all your replacement parts together and what's needed for tools and grease. It was cute what you did with the chip dip tub. My Dad always kept those little tubs around for grease that he would by in the 5 gal pale. I was always making sure that when they got low to fill them back up and put them in there respectful place or toolbox on Dad Rig. Looks like wiring is going to be a little trouble. But you'll fix it your way. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
i always cut open my grease tubes when the grease gun wont get anymore out of it. i add it to a tub and use it for this purpose. i am thinking on it. not sure what changes i want to make yet.
When you were talking about cottage cheese. I knew you aren’t the type of man to cut corners on major equipment parts. And besides I thought it was French onion dip. Can’t wait to see the final results on this trailer.
Jc funny thing about trailer towing laws about CDL around here near Philly non commercial ok to tow but DOT cops will ask especially horse trailers where they are going if going to show considered commercial but if just taking horse's to ride no CDL requirements figure out that loophole
You sure are very thorough, dang good job you do on everything. Very knowledgeable, I’m 52 and consider myself pretty handy, jack of all trades but master of few kinda guy so I appreciate your videos as I’m learning more as I watch.
I used dip & sour cream containers for grease many times unmarked until one time was out camping & grab a cold beer & seen the dip & thought she don't like sour cream but got it out started looking for bag chips & couldn't find any so i go asking her & she said i bought it & she had put it in the fridge for me !
Great video. Just in time. Tomorrow I’m redoing the brakes on my 8k axles on my 24’ Gooseneck and replacing all the lights to LEDs. I have it all painted and next is new deck boards sometime next week.
so far trailer looks like it has good bones to it JC. the wiring hackery doesnt look too bad. redoing the factory pisspoor routing and protection leaves something to be desired but kaufman tried at least. Hopefully this one doesnt turn into can of worms
Another used trailer, but this one seems in good shape. When you are ready to address it, I would remove the wheels and use some junk tires on the ground to protect the hubs, and use the Grady to flip it on its side. That will give you good access to rip out all the wiring, wire brush the whole thing, fix the axle springs and shackles, and paint it, then re-wire the whole thing. Maybe you have some teenagers in your neighborhood you can hire at minimum wage to do your wire brushing (don't know about that one). Save you some labor you can use on other projects. That trailer should last a while after that and be done to JCS standards.
i will no doubt flip it like i have done all the other trailers i rehabbed. once all the repairs and fab work is done, i will remove all the wood decking and have the entire trailer sand blasted. then it will get 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint.
I'm currently doing a 100% rewire on a gooseneck tandem dually trailer. When I do these I put a junction box on the neck, one under the front of the deck and a 3rd by the axles. Makes all the breakouts for side lights and brakes easy and sectional. Any future repairs are straight forward for anyone with any wiring knowledge.
Hi jc what you cant use dip as grease you know some dipstick has done that 😂😂 . I was spray painting an with your air pressure tips an adjusting the air flow on gun the best finish ive got thanks alot . Cheers mate🇦🇺
i used moratic acid until i found that it can continue to eat away at the copper under the insulation even after being neutralized. i found this after i had several wires break a short distances from the slice.
hello j.c. & mrs.smith it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks j.c friends randy and i am enjoy yours video j.c and mrs. smith is a goood work thanks friends randy
I work in the oil field and have to use pipe dope on the plugs every time I take them off. I now carry an empty container of it with a spoon. When I can’t get ant more on the brush I open a new one use it a few days then take the spoon and put them together
I was just thinking about all that went into each wheel hub to get it in your hands for $87. Material, forming, machining, shipping, on both sides of the pond plus the pond, wharehousing, retailing and paint. I almost forgot the bearings as well. For the subject of this post, I don't care if it is cheap steel or not who is making any money selling at this price poiint? Understood the cost of living varies country to country but still for anyone in the US to even want to handle this item they will want a decent profit. It happens so it is what it is but simply amazing. What does something in the US cost if available?
I've found that an open butt splice can last longer than an improper sealed splice . If moisture can get in it stays there and accelerates the corrosion. I always say deox and good heat shrink or just leave it open. Tape or cheap heat shrink just make it worse and make the issues harder to find. I've had good luck with liquid electric tape as well.
yes and no. depends on the catalyst involved. rain water while sitting in the driveway? possibly. road water mixed with debris and chemicals off the road. probably not. the lack of air is what can slow the catalyst.
It's amazing how a lot of tire shop don't even know that you need bolt in valve stems. I've had them put in pull in stems and blow out and ruin new tires. Have a company that still owes me new tires. Never will go back
I use to use that same Anti seize. Got tired of looking like the TinMan after using it. Somehow it always ends up all over my face. Found a Food Grade one from RECTORSEAL and been using it the last year.
3:35 i've seen rims that were worn like that essentially break off the "star" that would be formed if you drew a circle with the center of the bolt holes. Those are super, super unsafe.
I had thrown away trailer tires that were 10 years old bc I had to air them up every use of the trailer trailer tires are that kinda thing that can have full tread but be junk
Those brushes don’t make it to the bottom because most of us end up looking like the tin man on the first use and the bottle gets chucked at the garbage can. 😂. And then we go out buy and other bottle thinking it will turn out better this time

You're love for grease reminds me of a fleet of trucks that had jib cranes on them plastered with stickers that read "I need grease to live".

I knew it wasn't onion dip, but I grew up with a Gramma that kept everything except what the container said on it in the fridge. 😂😂
That trailer will be handy for your tractor and SXS's J.C 🙂👍 Don't blame you for just buying both of the drums. I hope you and Mrs. S have a great weekend. Take care 🔧🔩
i actiually bought all 4 new wheels and all 4 new drums, bearings, seals, and dust caps. might as well start off knowing its all good.
If someone thought you were using anything other than bearing grease, then welcome to the channel. Looks like you already have a well thought out plan to make this work for you. Thanks
LOL I found the the "Bueno Cheese Caso " is far superior to French Dip. Another great video!

look into that. i read about a ruling that privately owned rigs that are "sponsored" hobbies are now exempt as well.

i have a solution in mid that might be easier.
thanks for sharing about the CDL i had always thought that but wasn't sure another great video thanks for sharing
My mom was the plastic container queen lol 😂 ask how I know lol 😆

that is great. glad to hear it helped.
Thanks for the video J.C.
sometimes ill dip tarnished wires in muriatic acid before soldering cleans the wires up good, (the works toilet bowl cleaner also works)
i used moratic acid until i found that it can continue to eat away at the copper under the insulation even after being neutralized. i found this after i had several wires break a short distances from the slice.
@@j.c.smithprojects I could see that I guess I never had one that I associated to that but I believe you.
its like the acid goes farther into the insulation that the neutralizer can reach.
JC that is so funny we all should know you buy grease in 5gal buckets.
Kind of impractical for a road trip

i was not able to locate one made in the usa for sure. saw many with the "usa' shipped, "usa" warehouse
Your other right turn! 😅
I think he faked the anti-sieze, he didn't end up looking like the tin man lmao 🤣🤣🤣

I can google it but I’m gonna ask anyways but what is deox??? You mentioned it while inspecting heat shrink wires on trailer
it is a compound i put on electrical connections after soldering and before heat shrink. it helps to fight corrosion.
@@j.c.smithprojects thank you.
No I wasn’t one of those that went to google, I just carried on watching and kept my mouth shut Lol
I knew what was in there because I do the same thing with my grease
well if i hadn't been watching the channel as long as i have you might have gotten me but i knew it would be red
3:35 i've seen rims that were worn like that essentially break off the "star" that would be formed if you drew a circle with the center of the bolt holes. Those are super, super unsafe.
Didnt see cottage cheese container but my grease container is a 1 quart chinese food container its red and green mixed😂
I thought it was margarine 😂

Nice kit cheap
link or part number for this wire and the wires used on the trailer build
i bought this from a local electrical supply house. not able to find it online.
Which deox do you use?
penetrox
😎👍
👍👌👏
I see a Mack in the background
