I’m 24 been wrenching sense the 8th grade went after high school into trades school and got my associates degree in occupational technologies. Went professional when I was in trades school working nights at a fleet shop. Now I keep fire trucks on the roads and fighting fires. I discovered your channel back in 2017 or 2018 been watching ever sense. Your videos always inspire me to do the best work possible every day. Also learned a lot from you! Keep up the good work man!
a guy couldnt ask for a better compliment.

I couldn't agree anymore.
Your attention to detail and quality control is outstanding. It’s refreshing to see ‘pride in ownership’ of a man’s work these days.
I have to 100% concur with that. Just nice to see this level of workmanship.
Prayers for Jeffery and the new medicine will help him.
The truck is almost finished looking good.
thanks you for thinking of my jeffery. poor old boy is struggling.
*Superb work J.C!* 🙂👍 I'm glad you can see the finish line with this project. 🔧🔩 Looking forward to the tank install and I hope you and Mrs.S have a great weekend
Nearly there, JC; nearly there. Your skills as an alchemist are paying off 🙂 Tip: various places sell day-glo pencils for people like you and I 😆
I hope the shop that glued it together the first time gets shown how it should've been done . The first time.
I know this has been a frustrating build for you but I have to say it’s been my favorite!! What you and your wife do is amazing. Thank you for the amazing content!!
I like the way you have methodically reworked all the required systems and explained the how’s and why’s to make the truck safe and usable for its intended purpose. It’s been a long one for sure! Really enjoy seeing your work!
If everyone in our country took as much pride in their work as JC does imagine what we would have.
30:45 this guy here, just turned the Earth into a giant press. That's impressive.
I like the way dual shield "lays"
The attention to “what the hell did I miss?!” Is amazing and knowing that you tend to almost over build because you know someone will find the weak points in things and not necessarily re-engineer what has been tried and true for years. What a pain to get it all done right, and how rewarding when it all works the way it needs to.
Nice work on that tower
Can't wait to see the video of that truck roll out of your shop
that is two of us!
AWESOME series JC. Thanks for sharing. Hope Jeffery is doing better. Sounds like you are down the sucky part of enjoying pets. Do what you can and enjoy Jeffery while he is about.
we will do everything possible to keep him healthy and happy. he is on new meds now. we are hoping he will react well to them.
@@j.c.smithprojects Prayers and best wishes for you, your wonderful wife and yalls pal Jeffery. Thanks for the note.
Hello from the Netherlands.
thanks for the video JC 👍and Mrs.Smith ❤.
Sincerely Hollandduck
Really cracking on with this build now JC, great progress now.
Glad to hear ice cream is on the menu. Where did your knowledge come from. Taking things apart and putting them back together or Christmas toy assembly in the livingroom? Refer me to that video you may have made mention. Was it you dad, your uncle, high school mechanic class and the teacher, who taught you the basics correctly. How did humans come from The Flinston's car, foot operated, stone wheels to strecthing a frame of a massive Perterbuilt truck? The human mind...wow. Your physics, accuracy, math are fun to watch.
Man I can’t wait to see this truck when it is complete 🎉
Sir, i really enjoy your videos your an amazing engineer, thank you for taking the time to show us your skill regards john from uk......
I like to say this what another RUclipsr said about his project: You don't finalize anything until you have finalized everything. Good call in putting grease into the mating surfaces. It will take a long time for rust cavities starting to form. One thing about the tag Axel if it's too crooked or way off like on the other frame before. All the air hoses will be kinked or stretched out, not something you want to have. That was ingenious way to push out the old pushing using a already existing heavy weight machine. I'm sure the dub and tile silicone was fine..not really cause it will not stop oil from leaking ask me how I found out.
Really enjoying the build. Everybweek you're teaching us something new with great details and whyfores! Hopefully the videos will pay for some of your effort😊
I pick my dogs over any 2 legged "friends". My brother had 2 boxers over the years. Great dogs but they do get old too soon. Thoughts and prayers for Jeffrey and you and the Mrs. of course
Dear J.C. Smith projects family
👍👌👏 Extremely well done again and as always (video and work). But before I comment more, something more important than truck steel frames an lift axles: 😱 Oh no, poor Jeff! Hope he will be better soon.
2) Maaaan, this tank truck should be yours. I fear that nobody else will be able to appreciate the massive amount of effort (thinking, planning, working) and money you invested. 3) Don't you dare to ever say again that you are not a welder! This and some other videos obviously and definitely proof you wrong!
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all of you (this time especially for/to Jeff).
so far he is reacting well to the new medication. we take him back to the cardiologist in a few weeks to do a echocardiogram again. they will also put a heart monitor on him. we will take him home and return 24 hours later to have it removed. they will analyze the recordings.
Mr JC you deserve more subscribers. Like and a comment for the algorithm.
It’s mind boggling how much attention to detail you have put into this project but it also pleases me very much to know there are still people out there who give a shit about doing great work on everything they do and I understand how frustrating it makes you when you have to cut corners to save money as customers don’t want to pay for everything you do, I’m very impressed with how the reused chassis brackets look that you make, that other chassis you showed us and sent right back out the door was an absolutely atrocious compared to your standard of perfection, I’m impatient and wish you did longer videos and more frequently 😂😂😂
Great video J.C.Smith the lift axle is almost done. Few more item to cross off and then the tank to mount and done with this truck. Keeping Jeffrey in our prayers the new medicine helps stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
appreciate you thinking of our jeffery. he is very important to us.
looking great very thorough work 👍👍👍🇨🇦
Thank you for this video J.C. + Mrs. A very nice clean job you do of design, fabricating & mechanical work. U 4 sure made a 1st class trk. out of that old Pete.
I think deep down…..you really do love that old truck!
nope. not even a little.
G'day JC,,,
Another great episode, This is looking like a nice neat n tidy rig, after all your work .
Ĺoooking forward to the next vid.
Respect....!
You are making a very very good truck
Hopefully your friend appreciates this truck you have so graciously made for him
And hopefully he takes care of it and doesn’t waste all the work you have so graciously done for him
Also I hope we get to see the tank mounted on the truck
Hope Jeffrey gets to feeling better. Ice cream definitely makes things better.
thabk you. he is on new meds. fingers crossed he react well to it.
Enjoyable watching 👍
Great Video man I see the light!
Another awesome video !
I hear a cutting torch works pretty good for drilling holes in a truck frame..... 🤡
I do like the punch that you used to find the centre of the existing holes.... Is there a set for different size holes?
You can get a punch set that does a bunch of holes. I can't remember exactly what's it's called but it's just a bunch of different size center punches
yes. my set is in 1/32 increments but stops at 1/2" inch. so i used the the that fit inside my anular cutter that i had already used to drill the holes.
I like the new welder
the fleet I help maintain is mainly Volvos and freightliners. I recently just finished installing a radiator in a freightshaker. i also just ordered the material for my ase certs. though im well aware I've got a long way to go in terms of the industry. After watching one of your last videos it lets me know I could have somewhere it go in the industry as well as fixing the rigs the right way the first time. godspeed in getting the truck done and hoping your pup is ok.
someone who does good work will always find a job. someone that does exceptional work never has to look for a job. i think many employers today are sick of running an "adult day care" while paying "professional" wages. many will do whatever it takes to get and keep an asset like yourself.
Love your attention to fab works m8 it must keep you on your toes
I hope that the guy you’re building this for, watches this whole series on the build and fully appreciates the care attention to detail and the blood sweat and tears you’ve put into it on his behalf. Love your style technique and skill and I’m totally jealous of it all, keep on keeping on, you are doing a fantastic job.
Great work and detail.
Fantastic work as always J.C. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with this project (can only imagine how you feel about finishing this truck), but every step you’ve gone though was well thought out and the final product really shows. It’s neat to see it come together.
Also I’m really sorry to hear about Jeff. I hope he feels better soon cause he’s such a great dog.
looking good jc
Grady, what an invaluable part of your operation, he can do everything.
Now that's a Million Dollar Custom Truck! Great Work JC
Home streach and she's look'n good! Congrats and thanks for bring us along The brides goddies keeps your belly in good spirits! Enjoy~ Be safe...
A master class in well thought through design and build, always considering what's best rather than what's the easiest way to solve a particular problem.
I love all your videos and have no doubt you'll have a long lasting dependable truck to be proud of when it's finally finished, well done.
Every week I look forward to seeing your weekly progress on this project awesome job coming along very nicely and your way of doing things the right way is awesome !!! I hope Jeffery is doing well on his new medication
The most popular left hand on RUclips !
Thanks for the content.
35:32 you can get those lines from overtorque as well. I am guilty of that mistake, i wasn't paying attention in my early days and set the torque wrench to almost half as much, which damaged the bearing race. It's a hardened material, but it's less hard than the pins. Doesn't take much, and considering you found it so tight, i find it likely that he did that.
Helpful tip: when it comes to drilling multiple layers with annular cutters (double truck frames e.g.) Jancy, and I’m sure others, makes what’s called “I.D.” sharp cutters. They work great because you don’t have to pick out each individual layer. I drilled a lot of multi-layered holes before I knew they existed. Hope this helps.
Quality
Julian? Wheres your rum and coke? LOL cool video!
It looks good 👍. Have a great evening, JC.
On the lift axle controls I didn’t think the pressure regulator was allowed in the cab or at least in reach of the driver. We have a neighbor who received an overweight ticket because they disallowed his lift axle because the regulator was in the cab
Sometimes it depends on the state.
In Iowa, you are correct.
Sounds like where JC is, the pressure controls in the cab, accessible to the driver are allowed.
I'm pretty concerned about the water tank mounts. The tank is not supposed to be hard mounted to the truck frame and it needs to move more than you would think and is bolted down with springs. If this is not done correctly you will crack the tank. I have a couple trucks with I think the exact same tank mounts as that one and some different style mounts as well. I can do a short video if you want me to show the mounts.
I didnt explain the next process. the tank will sit on 1" rubber on top of the truck frame. it creates a 1 inch air gap between the tank mounts and truck mounts.
@@j.c.smithprojects good deal
That's a whole lotta great progress on this thing J.C.! I know you're gonna be thrilled when it's outta your bay! LOL Nice press you got there! Gradall's/ forklifts work good as 'bead breakers' too 😁👍
Amazing video . Thanks for sharing . Sure enjoyed watching and learning from this project, cheers
I've Ben sandbagin the whole series rather interesting stretching that 1 the way u did had to lay down the law this things gotta be right or I'm mot fooling with it. Um the jelly on the biscuit u were talking about is pretty good ove that grape crap . Ohh I have the very same mug too lol
love your work and attention to detail , man can learn a lot from you . great video , great build . 👍
hello jc and mrs.smith its is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks jc friends randy
Something to think about.
The straight air control for the lift axle is simple.
However,,,,
If the axle is left down when parked, and truck turned off, if the drive axle air bags leak down before the tag air bags leak off, and if the truck is on an incline, the park brakes aren't going to hold the truck from rolling.
This is the ONLY reason I do like having the electric control with the multi control valve, as it automatically dumps the air in the tag axle bags when power is turned off. (The lift axle switch is powered by "key on" power).
I have also installed a lift axle system that self adjusts the brake application pressure on the tag axle by sensing the load, and increases application pressure when load increases.
The company demanding those was building fuel delivery tankers.
i see. if the drive axle air bags bleed off, then the lift axle is going to bleed off as well. they are plumbed into the same tank.. since this is a spring lifted axle, it will automatically lift the axle when there is a loss of air pressure. the drives will require more pressure than the lift axle. the truck is not shut off when loaded. it only shut off when it is empty. however, i do see the need for adding a scotch block holding just in case.
@@j.c.smithprojects glad they are on the same air source! That'll cover the issue.
Love it
The old girl is looking good. The owner is definitely getting a well built truck vs. the original piece of crap.
Your credit to your people recycling aw that old frames material made in USA props couldny buy better new m8 plus cost ect end day every day’s school day Howz the #1 detailer quite day garden haha till next time jc
Great job J.C. 😊
Enjoying the content, curious why not use semi gloss or satin/matte finish on your black chassis paint? Wouldn't show that roughness of the steel/rusty pours etc.
I know this truck is annoying you, but damn if it don't make some good content. Nice work, sir.
i cant tell you how much it helps to know you are enjoying it.
It’s a shame that you don’t have an apprentice that you could be passing on your skills and knowledge. Your attention to detail and the desire to get things right …. is something that needs to be passed on.
I have the same corelle plates.
my wife has been searching for years to get the entire set.
A good fab project to do for channels jc 40ft rollback ?aye you say what’s new av gone few but make it hook loader body then it’s hook on bed when you need use special body fab man just thought
It’s been a good series. I have enjoyed it so much. Keep up the good work. I’m glad someone out there. Does it the right way?
great video thanks for sharing
You need to have a party the day that truck leaves your shop…..
As for those bearings/race you are not seeing maybe the old bearings.. maybe the old bearings were trashed from metal and running dry which ground a ridge in that race. Then new guy wad lazy and only swapped bearing
Who's this person that has a bad heart,,,I hope they get well soon,,
he is my dog. we are trying the new meds. fingers crossed it gets him right.
Drain holes for the brackets
Sorry I'm stuck thinking about those biscuits
i didnt get this way joggin......i love me some home cooking!

@@j.c.smithprojects I was trying to tell the wife the drier was shrinking my jeans.
She said the issue with my jeans is the refrigerator!!
Your work is truly amazing. How do you bill for something like this? Do you give a price up front, or is it hourly? I can't imagine how that can not be super expensive with your attention to detail. Truly a craftsman.
this is why i dont work on other peoples trucks. i cant charge enough to cover what i would make building my own trucks. if i charged the labor rate that i add to each and every truck of mine that i build, he would need a second mortgage on his house.
@@j.c.smithprojects I hope the guy you are building that truck for understands that. You are a good friend, I never disputed that
@@j.c.smithprojects do you build to spec, or do you build a truck that you hope people want? Just curious
i build my trucks to what i think is a good reliable and desirable to others. i dont build them to any one person's requirements. once it is done, i put it up for sale.
@@j.c.smithprojects wish you where closer I have a beautiful 10ft sst airflow dump body ide like to sell and in the market for a heavy spec 6 wheeler dump
There is no doubt that you do excellent work, but why would you put the tag axle all the way to the rear of the tandems? Usually, they are placed in front of the tandems. When in the rear, they bounce up and down like crazy when lifted.
in front of the drives is fine for on roads but when you are backing into driveways off of a single lane road he needs as short a wheel base as possible. also, he only needs the lift axle for 1/6 of the miles that the truck is driven.
@@j.c.smithprojects I understand. Thank you for the response.
Been waiting for this step. Really curious what the ground to the top of the drive shaft drop is. Happy to see you are almost done with this night mere. As always great video.
i will measure it and message you when i do.
@@j.c.smithprojects thanks!
That hole on that bronze bushing that was not at the grease port.. when you installed new bushings you put the hole where the grease fitting is (lined up).. I think that's wrong and the original was right. Hear me out, cam bushings in an engine have a hole just like that and a Grove around the outside and GM specs like 3o clock for that hole. Putting the hole right at the grease fitting/oil hole doesn't allow the back pressure to feed oil/grease around the entire bushing vs just out to outside.. as you left it grease will push inside bushing and to outside vs running around that Grove and greasing both sides as designed
i could go with that way of thinking for sure. however.....a cam needs to have enough oil flow but not too much constantly. in this case pressure is only applied momentarily with the grease gun or load applied against the grease by the s cam itself. either was its probably best to grease it while the brake are being applied and released. i think that would satisfy all possibilities?.
@@j.c.smithprojects beats me, I'll continue to enjoy content as more is released
Need to rename the gradall to doall.
Wassup
😎👍
I know you were explaining that you needed 52" from centre to centre to line up/space/distance the 3rd axle in relation to the second axle. You explained that at either the fully raised or fully lowered positions the axle centre would be at it's shortest points of travel with the middle position determining the longest length. When the axle was hanging from a chain or sitting on jack stands/trolley jack how did you come to the conclusion that the axle was already centred in it's axis of travel? Are there positions makers stamped on to the arm and bracketry? Is the spring pre tensioned that the arms will automatically sit at the centre position of travel regardless of the forces put in the assembly whilst being suspended on the jack?
i used an old air bag and shop air to run the axle up and down. i measured it in the different positions. once i found the the radius, i adjusted from there.
I'm adding a drop axle soon where can I find the info on the correct measurement to install
I am pretty sure you could build a new truck from scratch .
About an ancient suspension
and your point is?
@@j.c.smithprojects can you still get parts for it
it is just like everything else in this world....if i cant get it, I WILL MAKE IT!
What's the brand/model of that lift axle?
Jc win are u getting truck done
The problem you mentioned about the tires in the back and backing into somewhere. Isn’t that why the tag should be ahead of the drives? Genuinely curious
lift axles are put in different locations for different purposes. in this situation, keeping a shorter wheel base was the reason. understand that putting it in front of the drive axles could have a similar issue on an incline.
Yawn
If your board then move on,,,
