  • The Bengal Eagle owl is found across most of Asia - a close cousin to the Eurasian Eagle owl, around half the weight with more agility. Ryan has been hand rearing a lot of different owls recently, including 'Ranger'. In this video, you will see how Ryan measures, makes and fits a pair of leather anklets and the progress of training Ranger to fly to the glove.

Could I ask a question about hand rearing a Barn Owl. How many days old before you give roughage? I’ve heard many different answers but I respect your knowledge more than most.

Hi, there is no harm giving roughage from a young age. I get my owls (including barn owls) from about 2 weeks old and they can digest the fur of the mice or the feather from a small piece of quail easily, the evidence in their pellets.

@@owladventuresuk thanks so much for that, I have experience with keeping and flying both Redtails and Barn Owls but from over 30 years back, however I'm getting back into what I loved and have Barnie on the way next week and it's my first hand rearing experience your videos are invaluable as may out there give information that is incorrect because unfortunately they have them as a PET owner and not the knowledge of being falconers! I have experience and have also recently joined my local BFC as a supporter but the raising of raptors is very different species to species regarding roughage. Thanks again!

It is imprinted and they aren't always noisy. We have a few 'silent imprints'. He does make some noise like he does towards the end of the video in his aviary.
