Owl Diary 67 Why did I take a barn owl to Ireland?
The owl diary is back and this time we have gone European - Ryan has travelled to the republic of Ireland, to the north West near Sligo to provide a particular event with a barn owl flying. What could that possibly be? (If you a regular viewer you may have already guessed it). So Owl Adventures is now officially international - I suppose. What complication will Ryan face when attempting to take his 'pet bird' into the EU?

It's big - it's strong, it's bold - no, nor Ryan's ego but his new Eagle aviary. Take a tour of the grand design, it's features, perches and flooring. Also, watch a feeding session to both Storm and Athena, the female Steppes Eagles and Ryan will reveal how much it cost to have the aviary built.
I think I made a mistake with my young Bengal eagle owl
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Hand rearing an Eagle owl is easy enough when you know how to do it, right? Well, in basic terms yes but it does become more difficult when you're incredibly busy and hand rearing and training different birds all the time. It appears that the new Benga eagle owl has not turned out as good as Ryan hoped - it could be in part the birds' natural personality. It could also be the venues that the ow...

How to create and use an anti bac dip with Fam30 - Falconry advice
Просмотров 1972 месяца назад
In agriculture, Fam30 is commonly used as an 'animal safe' product. Not many falconers (as far as I'm aware) use this iodine / sulphuric acid based product. It can be used to spray an entire aviary or area - be used as a 'foot' dip / cleaner' or be used to, as Ryan demonstrates in this video, to create a dip for astro-turfs, perches and any other smaller items used in falconry. Ryan shows how t...
How we run a professional static bird of prey display
Просмотров 2152 месяца назад
'Static bird of prey displays' have become more common in the last decade or so. They are a great way to educate people about wild birds of prey and about many aspects of falconry and they can be a good way to market a falconry business or produce revenue. There is of course the right way to do it and the wrong way - having a professional setup and the correct practices is essential for the wel...
Owl Diary 66 More owlets, feeding Eagles, Ural owl and why did I take birds of prey to Essex?
Просмотров 1692 месяца назад
The Owl diary is back. Ryan has the opportunity here to give a good update on the latest with Owl Adventures - and once again, he has more baby owls to show you. But the video starts with Scout the Ural owl flying in his aviary and keep watching because the Eagle have quail for their evening meal and there is a good reason why Ryan travelled all the way down from Yorkshire to Essex with a team ...
The best birds of prey for beginners (in my opinion) - Falconry Basics

When starting out in a hobby like falconry (handling, training and flying birds of prey) it is best to start with an owl or raptor that is not going to be too challenging and generally easier to work with. In this video, Ryan explains (in his opinion) the best starter birds for those with little experience. Providing the basics have been learned - how to tie a falconer's knot, how to correctly ...

Hand rearing a Bengal Eagle owl - fitting anklets and flying to the glove
Просмотров 2533 месяца назад
The Bengal Eagle owl is found across most of Asia - a close cousin to the Eurasian Eagle owl, around half the weight with more agility. Ryan has been hand rearing a lot of different owls recently, including 'Ranger'. In this video, you will see how Ryan measures, makes and fits a pair of leather anklets and the progress of training Ranger to fly to the glove.
The 8 reasons why a falconer could lose thier bird of prey
Просмотров 2853 месяца назад
Sometimes falconers lose birds of prey, it's a simple fact that is does happen. Usually the reason as to why it is happened is quite clear - the thumbnail for example shows a Peregrine falcon sat on the ground wearing its full tethering furniture - leash included. This means that the bird either got free when being handled or become free from a perch that it was tied to. In this video, Ryan exp...
To feed yoke or no yoke? Falconry advice

'Day old chicks' contain a ball of fat known as the 'yolk sack'. The yolk sac (YS) consists of the yolk, which supplies nutrients, and the YS tissue, which surrounds the yolk and provides essential metabolic functions for the developing embryo. Some falconers remove the yolk sack before feeding it to their bird of prey, whilst others leave it in. What should you do with the yolk sack and why? w...

Cheers mate!this is going to help hundreds when I get my male Harris hawk in the next couple months!😊
That's great, thank you
Fantastic! What a magical idea. But why all the screaming? 😅 is that because he was out of his usual routine or is that typical of that species of owl?
That’s because it’s a tame owl that talks to us as it believes it a human / or that we are barn owls
Way more awake than Gizmo! 😅
I hear the 3rd and 4th all the time 😂

Good vid , I'm enjoying watching your channel as I begin my own falconry journey,
That's great, thank you
Great video
Met one person with yellow eyes but dark skin. I always think energy and majes me eat yellow foods.
Spotted a female sparrow hawk in my garden today! I also see buzzards a lot but I saw one in England a few days ago with some roadkill, also seen golden eagles in Scotland along with short eared owls in Orkney, little owls in England, barn owls in the Isle of Man, red kites in Scotland again and a goshawk but that was at a falconry centre in Thirsk, England😅(btw Im from the Isle of Man so of course I have to travel to all different countries to see one singular animal and then go back)💀
Casper is a quite chatty one.
I'm trying 2 put a photo on birdtrader

Doh! Fair play to you for admitting this faux passion publicly, Speaks volumes on the type of person you are.....subbed
Thank you, I appreciate that
Dont have to be crazy toys. With them both being female, try some palm sized smooth rocks. They'll try to sit in them like eggs. 😂
Fantastic avairy, lucky eagles.
Cud had that done beter bigger cheaper to be onist m8
Joiners done a lovely job of that aviary
Yes, he certainly did. And he worked from 7am - 9pm both days so it was completed in time.
The eagles are so beautiful!
They really are.
Wild animals belong in nature.
Great work
Thank you!
I know with dogs, have no idea with owls, is that they go through varioius stages of development. I took my two Yorkshire Terriors, age 9 weeks, to a public event. It was for a school and the kids loved the dogs and wanted to pet them. At the time, I had no idea, but for a small animal, being petted on the head, the commotion etc. was very traumatizing. If I could do it agian, I would not. I bet owls have the same in terms of the times in their lives where they can accept stimulation or not. Yes, you do want them acccommodated to the public, but you don't want their sociality shut down. I'd rather have a happy animal to one that is terrified of being in public events. When you think of it, this is obviously not natural for an owl.
Hi, all our other owls are fine with crowds and busy places. We have had flying shows with 4000+ people before and that hasn't bothered them. This owl is just an exception really
I don’t want to be mean, but owls are not pets, their wild animals, they’re meant to be in the wild. I’m not trying to be mean, I kind of feel bad for owls, they’re just wild animals. But you know.
Depends on context, some owls and raptors cannot be released due to injuries or deformities, so, they are kept as ambassadors. Falconry is also another example and the bond between raptor and human is amazing. Humans need to learn about raptors somehow, and shows and these types of programs are the best way to do that! While your attitude is not a bad one, please be careful with passing judgements. Think of Falco, the eagle owl, from the zoo in NY that was "released" because a person thought he should be "Free" and ended up dying of rodenticide poisoning and other complications by being in an area to which he was not native and several other things.
Neat birdo! I got an odd question for you: Would an Eagle owl be viable against seagulls in an urban setting?
Yes, they will certainly catch seagulls.
@@owladventuresuk My interest is piqued, thanks!
The Zoo in Minneapolis, MN lost a Eagle Owl from a flying display . It flew into the tiger enclosure and was consumed by a tiger . Reported in People Magazine . They are reviewing procedures. Very sad indeed .
Wow. What an insane thing to have happen
Did you make a specific video about your eagle avery in the end?
Hi, no, it's in the pipeline
@@owladventuresuk oh, great, I'll look forward to it.
Useful, puffy and lovely little birds of prey
Scop and tawny owlets and reptiles are really precious
Both very cute

I'm in the UK
Thanks
@@owladventuresuk Jousting arena, Royal Armouries, Leeds ?
@@felgate11 I've heard they have had falconry there before. I'd be happy to discuss the idea of providing something there if they are interested.
stick to hawks haha Them big owls can drive you nuts The weight of a small eagle but can seem brain dead Not always easy to keep trim eh Your not the first and wont be the last Waiting for them to come down from trees
I know what you mean.
Thankyou for this. There is so much conflicting information on feeding out there...can you comment on mixing what is fed to chicks? I was taught only to ever feed chicks, yet rats and mice are apparently more nutritional in other sources. I have a 3 week old AEO and have stuck to chick insides with a bit of yolk once a week so far.
Hi, I always recommend around half chicks and half rodent based but more rodents and extras like prime quail when growing up - especially for a larger species like an Eagle owl.
@@owladventuresuk Thankyou I appreciate the response
Could i be rude and ask if you could recommend a good mouse /chick supplier .
Hi, we use Honeybrook.
@@owladventuresukThank you very much I will give them a look .
Very handsome in your suit! AXL isnt bad either! 😉

Being largely self taught I couldn’t quite grasp the concept of how to tie the gun method in Phillip glasiers book so the orthodox method was the only way I could see how to do it it’s far easier.
Yes, it's best to have the option to use that.

Class video … I’m from Ireland but we’ve a lot of common species… I live in the countryside of Dublin county and there’s buzzards everywhere.. and lately I’ve seen some red kites too
Thank for this. I'm coming to Ireland in September with a barn owl for a wedding. I'll look out for those birds. There will be a video on my trip too.
So you can’t house any other species of owl with a Eurasian Eagle Owl after the crèche stage ? I read Barn Owl chicks can be aggressive towards chicks of other species- is that your experience?
Will Spud fly onto people's rucksacks during flying displays? ;-) He's gorgeous! Loved seeing you guys at Cheshire Steam fair on Saturday, holding the Steppe Eagle was fantastic, and having the Barn owl fly over to me was super special! Wasn't sure whether to hold out my arm or not, but the owl seemed to have fun regardless :-D Hopefully see you all again soon, will keep my eye out on any future events you're at!
Hi, thank you. We don't fly our very small owls but it probably would land just about anywhere if we did.
Do you think Eurasian Eagle Owls have to always be housed with selected other EEO’s. ?
No, they can live alone happily.
I went again, this time I saw Gizmo!
Yes, Gizmo (our 2019 Indian Scops owl) is very popular
