I must admit that as a karate practitioner, these tips are very helpful to know because the style of karate has a very different blocking style that is more focused towards counter-striking than it is by evasiveness and fancy footwork. I practiced for 6 years and still didnt have an answer for an overly-aggressive opponent who closed in on me, but this video has helped give me something to practice in those situations. Really solid advice here. It's how I win my fights most of the time. These big fighters keep throwing all these punches and kicks and I keep getting them to chase me and dance around them, pelting them with quick jabs. OK....if you fight a little guy this works....a guy like me thats 6'3" and 285, I ll wait on a littler guy to get comfortable blocking some weak jabs, not really throwing a hook, and once they get confident they come in, and thats when some serious shit happens.....biggest thing is for a guy this size, fighing a bigger guy is never come close, stay away and land your jabs and upper cuts when you can....throw a kick and someone my size (fighting a guy this size) catches it, its lights out, on your back.....stick and move, wear the bigger guy down, let him throw useless shots and tire him out....Never fully engage till you see him either putting hands on his knees or mouth open sucking air, and then try to time a hook to catch him on his chin.......if you are 160 trying to arm bar or stand toe to toe with some one that is 285 (that has some fighting skill) you are not going to win....distance, jabs, and speed....till Goliath gets winded.....you do this with a guy that is fight ready, best to try and talk your way out
actually no everything you mentioned can be easily used against that person, when you train in mixed martial arts you learn to use an opponents or attackers strength against them, staying calm and using your brain you can easily put someone alot stronger and taller than you on the ground or if they are on top be able to turn them around of choke them out.
When you train different techniques and especially during sparring, try to use different sparring partners who have different styles. Just because a certain technique works against one guy, doesn't mean it will work on everybody. Moving your head up and down like that can get you a knee to the face. I've seen it happen.

But I knew the basics of boxing and I survived and got respect however little it was. That was a very good break down of how to defend against an attacker. It works! Taking a punch is never the best option lol, Dominick Cruz is a good example of this technique in action. If the enemy is aggressive you may not have the space or your feet in the right place to make more space with your legs.

Fighting is about instinct. Train to react. Movement speed and timing but, more about reflex some punches are just to rapid and fast to time correctly.

For balance, you gotta drill that footwork, man- pivoting, leg switching, making sure not to cross your legs, steeping with the directional leg- you have to make all of that second nature. Once it becomes natural, then you can adjust the movements to fit your situation and intentions without losing balance or stability. Then there's stamina. It doesn't matter how fast, powerful, agile, or technical you are as a fighter if you have no stamina. If you get tired, your arms will drop, your foot work will stutter, your technique will fail, and you will not- repeat, WILL NOT be able to even think clearly or rationally. You're fighting will devolve from boxing to animalistic flailing(which all also put you off-balance) so that's also a must. Finally, you gotta be flexible. When your ranger movement is increased, the ease of said movement will increase as well. For example, if two guys has the exact same physique and training where one could do a split and one couldn't, and they were to throw

actually no everything you mentioned can be easily used against that person, when you train in mixed martial arts you learn to use an opponents or attackers strength against them, staying calm and using your brain you can easily put someone alot stronger and taller than you on the ground or if they are on top be able to turn them around of choke them out.

When you train different techniques and especially during sparring, try to use different sparring partners who have different styles. Just because a certain technique works against one guy, doesn't mean it will work on everybody. Moving your head up and down like that can get you a knee to the face. I've seen it happen.

Some of the comments are hilarious! But on a real note, I've been in street fights most of all of my years in schools. Always bullies no doubt. But I knew the basics of boxing and I survived and got respect however little it was. That was a very good break down of how to defend against an attacker. It works! And when you add punches and kicks and a little dirty boxing to the mix, you become a threat to the attacker. All that flow of aggression comes to a trickle when you start landing shots. That's called respect friends. FINISH HIM!!!

That hopping exercise was really helpful. After I did a couple of those I am naturally able to keep my balance better when slipping low :)

If he is an MMA fighter then he would have only dropped to go for a takedown and if he is a boxer he would know never to throw your head forward, you're supposed to lower yourself with your knees and keep your head facing forward so you can see both your opponent and if there's an opening to throw another combo.

if you want to end a fight I prefer clinching and dealing shots to the solar plexus, then your target will be in a proned position then you can deal shots in the clinch to the face. don't listen to these kids. they don't know one thing about mixed martial arts I can tell you that.

Taking a punch is never the best option lol, Dominick Cruz is a good example of this technique in action. If the enemy is aggressive you may not have the space or your feet in the right place to make more space with your legs.

Fighting is about instinct. Train to react. Movement speed and timing but, more about reflex some punches are just to rapid and fast to time correctly.

Yo man I'm in a bind and there's these two guys that are trying to fight me I'm a good counter boxer but they love to wind back to punch I've play fought them before but I did the slightest counters and unintended n hurt them I'm like a mike tyson person I don't move that much cause I have balance but great in evasive moves but I'll be off balance can you help
For balance, you gotta drill that footwork, man- pivoting, leg switching, making sure not to cross your legs, steeping with the directional leg- you have to make all of that second nature. Once it becomes natural, then you can adjust the movements to fit your situation and intentions without losing balance or stability. Then there's stamina. It doesn't matter how fast, powerful, agile, or technical you are as a fighter if you have no stamina. If you get tired, your arms will drop, your foot work will stutter, your technique will fail, and you will not- repeat, WILL NOT be able to even think clearly or rationally. You're fighting will devolve from boxing to animalistic flailing(which all also put you off-balance) so that's also a must. Finally, you gotta be flexible. When your ranger movement is increased, the ease of said movement will increase as well. For example, if two guys has the exact same physique and training where one could do a split and one couldn't, and they were to throw

Then focus on lowering your center of gravity, keep your guard up and weight shifted slightly foward. Use a tight guard and wait for your opponent to leave openings for you to counter punch. That's a classic method for dealing with a smaller, faster and more aggressive opponent. It does NOT work against physically stronger opponents.
Yo can u do a video or something about slipping the non-first punches? i dodge the first one just fine its the latter ones that are hard. I was thinking if i use a pattern he'll just pick up on it and whack me, and if i don't then i'll lose precious time figuring out where the punch is coming from before i slip it. seeing as there's is likely no 100% effective way, which of the two methods (pattern, or react on the spot) is more effective?
These three tips work from the first punch to the last. If you've got good form, eye contact, head movement - than you can avoid the follow up punches as well as the first. There is no 100% way to know what he's doing, but look for patterns - he might always follow up a jab with the cross, or go high then low. Keep moving and keep good eye contact to be prepared. Sparring and shadow boxing are great ways to practice these techniques so you're ready when the fight happens. Good luck, be safe
