- What was my recovery time like after my fibroid removal surgery. I had an open myomectomy in July of 2020. This was my FIRST surgery, so I really didn't know what to expect before, during and after the surgery. On top of the fibroid removal surgery being my first procedure, I got it done during the COVID-19 pandemic... so there were a lot of other precautions I had to deal with.

Update: I had the procedure done as scheduled at Lenox hospital in NYC. There were 3 big ones that they saw on the ultrasound. The procedure was supposed to be 2 hours long. Surprise surprise they removed 38 fibroids and the procedure was 6.5 hours. 4 days in the hospital, 2 blood transfusions and 2 magnesium infusion I am now home resting, eating and juicing waddling around the apartment feeling like a new person. I have a notebook to log my pain meds alternating every six hours between Motrin and Tylenol. I’m so grateful for your video. It helped me both before and after my procedure.🌹🌹🌹

@@TaniyaWright11 10 days after the procedure I’m feeling surprisingly well. My strength is coming back rapidly. I’m moving around the house very well doing light chores. I’ve been out the house (walked around the block) a total of 3 days to get fresh air. I switched organic mostly diet. I drink only organic juice, lots of water. No chicken only fish, liver and red meat for my protein to tend to my severe anemic issue pre-op and blood transfusions post-op. I dear to say I haven’t felt this healthy in years🤗

@@TameNBalanced nice. I saw your message. I did my surgery on 2/28/22. Funny the obgyn my girlfriend referred also work with Lenox hill in the city. They removed 42 fibroids more than what the MRI suggested. Dr. Phillips and her team did a great job. I'm home recovering. I'm praying they don't remember.

Thanks for sharing this. I had surgical ovarian cystectomy on July 10, 2021 so its just 3 weeks after the surgery and yes I could start sleeping aideways for 2 nights now. My incision is around 6 inches and I can't wait for it to heal completely. Your video makes me stronger and I know I'll recover soon.👍

I watched all your fibroids videos several times. Thank you for sharing! Your videos mentally prepared me with my own surgery 2 days ago. I'm now home and recovering. I'm thankful for a wonderful surgeon because I am not in terrible pain as I thought I would be. There is some discomfort but manageable. I'm super glad I did it!

@@aks082 thank you! I am recovering really well, thank God. I did some walking outside already but notice that I tire easily. My doctor said no abs exercise yet nor lifting anything heavy. Of course we need to let our bodies heal, don't get too excited even if we know we can do it lol. Sending you good vibes and prayers on your surgery! It's going to be all good.
Hey there...I did my laproscopic myemactomy 3 weeks ago...took 2 weeks off and resume working as it's wfh. I can walk for 10-15 mins and climb the stairs but I still have pain in my incision area and lower abdomen. Sitting for long time while working does hurt too. Do I need to take any extra precautions not to get this pain?
@@12asaho don't worry too much about it, it's still early. A little pain will still be there but will slowly go away week after week. I'm already 7 weeks post op and I still sometimes get discomforting sensation on the sides of incision but then it's gone. Just take it slowly. Remember that you just had a major surgery and need to heal. Take care!

I totally relate- I put mine off for 7 years and was so anemic that I had to get this done. Surgery scheduled March but delayed due to Covid. had an open myomectomy 6 days ago in Houston. 6 fibroids removed via bikini cut. I Thank Jesus that I didn’t have a hysterectomy so I can have kids in the future. Thanks for this video especially pertaining to when I can exercise
Oh course!!! It’s scary to think you need such a big surgery.. but once it’s done.. it’s done you feel so much better .

This was very helpful. I have some good planning ideas. I have stairs too, my room upstairs. My surgery is the 11th. I'm super scared. Mostly scared of the pain. I still have pain from a tail bone fall in Jan 2020. I will be praying extra hard now until the day.

@@clarissaann6742 it went well! My date was rescheduled because of Covid spikes in California. I am officially 3 months post-surgery today and feel sooo much better 🖤. Lower back pain went away immediately after surgery. I still can’t do vigorous exercises, but taking walks really does help with recovery

Taniya Wright doing great. Next Thursday is my two week appt. my incision is starting to itch. I too have the the surgical glue on top and you stated it peeled off made me feel better. I though my stitches were busting open or something 😅
Yes! I would put a warm wet facecloth on it.. and it would loosen the glue up a bit

Your videos have been so helpful, I can’t see my Gynecologist until February to set up a possible surgery date.! I’ve have fibroids for 3 years now! Never had problems with them until this past Monday 1/18 and was rushed to the ER.! I feel much better about the procedure now than I did 3 years ago💗

Recovering from same procedure now. Everything you experienced was spot on. Walking around hunched over at first and not being able to sleep on my side. Camped out on the couch as well. It was me my dog and Netflix ☺️
Glad to hear similarities even knocking out lol I’m 5 days post op no pain surprisingly more soreness than anything ,feels like i did alot of sit-ups my belly button feels weird and laying on either sides hurt. I definitely feel so much moving around in that area i can’t wait to get to 6 week getting up still hurts and my bck kills me as my skin tightens bck

Drive through surgeries. Gotta love it! I had my myomectomy and I was in the hospital for two nights and 2 nights after my hysterectomy. I don’t go home after my abdominal surgeries because I’m high risk. I had 7 fibroids removed and my surgery took about 4 hours which was 3 hours longer than expected. They expected 3 fibroids and found 7 inside and out of my uterus and a spot of endometriosis. The surgery was successful until the fibroids returned and I have iron deficiency anemia so I opted for the hysterectomy since I was already now 40 years old and having children could end up killing me and I was ok with it. My health is way worse now (not related to any GYN issues) and I can’t work any longer because the common cold can be life threatening for me due to my CVID (no not COVID-19) so I’m high risk for infections and in fact I’m battling my 3rd pneumonia in 6 months and probably my 15th since 2016. Just finished yet another round of IV antibiotics and steroids but my pulmonologist let me do them outpatient instead of being hospitalized yet again. The first of 3 I had to be admitted even after 12 days of oral and 2 different IV antibiotics and steroids because I got much worse. Not much I can do about it and some years I’ve had some longer hospital stays because of all of this so the last thing I need is major bleeding due to fibroids so I had the hysterectomy. I hav had many surgeries especially since 2016 with m having 4 surgeries and procedures last year requiring general and twilight anesthesia. I now just guess how long I last before I’m knocked out. With my major surgeries I’ve always been given anesthesia in pre op so I was out before I hit the OR doors. I’m getting a bronchoscope again in a few weeks (last one was in July of last year). That one I remember being on the OR table and I remember them extubating me (yeah. Thanks but next time take the tube out before waking me plz).
The myomectomy was very well worth it especially if you want kids and if you have health issues like I have it may be worth it to have more of a quality of life. I don’t regret not having kids. It’s my choice and I’m happy.

I’m at week 5 and definitely feeling better, but it would be nice to know when you finally felt 100% like yourself again. Specially when it comes to tummy inflammation and ability to exercise the way you were prior to surgery. 🙏🏼

Hey you probably remember me from one of your previous videos about the surgery! My incision is doing much better even though I had ecoli infection in the incision. I took antibiotics for that of course and it was much better! my dr cleared me to go back to work. I went back to work this past Monday! She told me to put Mederma on the scar. my stomach is still a little sore to the touch in the incision area and above it. Its also numb as well above the incision area.

I had my 12cm fibroid removed 4 weeks ago. I got told my recovery would take a month got my checkup appointment next week hopefully they'll be happy with everything! Like you the sofa and netflix has been my life for the past few weeks! Nice to know I'm not alone with the bloating!

Out of the 6-8 weeks recovery time, when were you cleared to work at an office job... I am not sure if it takes 6-8 weeks to heal without going back to work or work from home...i am curious.

Stephanie J my swelling took several weeks to go down.. I’d say today I’m pretty much back to normal. It depends how yiy feel at 4 weeks. I personally would not want to travel on a long road trip.. but a short plane ride would have been doable for me. You just have to see how you heal!!

I know this video is old, but I liked to watch it because I had my open surgery 3 weeks ago and everything you describe is exactly as I experienced it. My fibroid was 6 cm and causing me for 2 years very heavy bleeding, but because my fear, I posponed it, tried to fight it with more healthy diet but nothing helped. I finally took my courage and went to take i off. So far I had not my period back, co I can't tell if it's back to normal or not, but I guess I will find out soon. (Sorry for bad English, I am from Greece)

Im wondering because I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to take off 6 weeks, do you think teleworking (typing, zoom calls) would be okay by week 3? Or do you think postponing until I’m able to take off completely to able to take off 6-8 weeks would be best?
It’s all depends on how well you recover, you should start feeling better by 3-4 weeks.. just depends on your healing

I am day 5 post-op, and wowyeee pain, mine was a surprise Myomectomy, so had laparoscopic but then the fibroid was too big so they made an incision in the lower abdomen, and wow it hurts I am In hunched over phase, I have no stairs thank goodness, I am on pain meds and sleep a lot, I have a very high pain tolerance, but my abdomen feels like someone is stabbing me and burning me at same time
Today is Sunday 16th January and I had my open myomectomy surgery on Thursday 13th. Ladies, it’s not easy at all. But I’m trying to focus on the positive, no longer dealing with back pain, long and painful periods, feeling constantly fatigued and continuous abdominal pain. Im trying so hard to be strong and I feel myself wanting to cry due to be so emotionally drained and the physical pain. Please tell me, 1) it gets better and 2) having a c-section isn’t this bad?
The scar where my drain was hurts, I have feel a stabbing pain and I wish it will heal soon. Also going to toilet to wee is so painful, like a heavy force is on my bladder- at time I wet myself before I make it to the toilet because of the pain.
Update: I’m feeling a lot better, however my incision feels really tight due to the scar tissue also because the hair is growing it’s making the incision even more irritable. Did you wear body griddle? And how did you manage the scar, oil, scaraway?
I started feeling better after a few weeks. I’ve had both.. and would say they’re pretty equal. I was told Bc of my open myomectomy that I’d have to have a c-section if I got pregnant.

This might be a little late, because you posted this I think more than a year ago but I just wanted to know if you can still get pregnant after the surgery. It's 5days since the procedure was done on me. Mine was an emergency. I was not prepared at all.
I just got an open myomectomy the day before. Was home yesterday. Did you wear a belly binder to help support? Great to hear you are recovering well!

Hi I had my open myomectomy on Monday. I had a 13cm and 3cm fibroid removed. I feel good most times but I'm worried about constipation did you have to deal with that? I'm scared of busting the stitches. Did you take any laxatives?

@@aks082 Hi good luck. Yes it was a real pain. I pooped 5 days after my surgery which is long. I took the stool softener so I didn't have to push that and much it came out easy. Just hold your stomach area and don't force it and definitely take the stool softener if you're going days with any bowel movement. It's been a month now and I still dont have regular bowel movement but I can poop now not having to worry about bursting stitches.

Was diagnosed with fibroids at 22 it was only 4 cm , I had my twins 5 years ago it was at 6 cm when I got pregnant now it’s 15 cm and unbearable 😢 having it removed in few days

I had it before yesterday and it was my first surgery too. I was so scared especially cuz of corona. Now I’m home but no more hospital pain meds! So pain is coming in. They got me out the next morning. So I too slept one night in the hospital. Last night after taking ibuprofen the first pill my stomach got upset and blood pressure went up. So they took me to the emergency room they checked me out and gave me few pain killers in the veins. Now I’m not taking any pain killers so not sure what to do since my stomach is so upset and I’m scared to vomit

Yes, I was only in hospital one night, they told me I could leave a few hours after procedure... but I didn’t want to go home that quickly

That's what I had and decided to treat with Tranexamic Acid tablets to slow my menstrual cycle. Did that for a year then suddenly my fibroids grew and the bleeding got heavier. Last month I bled for 21 days! Now I have a transfusion scheduled and a consultation for surgery. I think I'm going with open myomectomy but torn between that and hysterectomy (but keeping my ovaries). I just know new fibroids will grow back.

Danica NZ I got regular anesthesia for sure. I think they gave me something in my stomach as well, but I’m not 100% sure on thay
My surgery was postponed becuz of covid so now I’m just waiting going out of my mind in discomfort

You will need some assistance at least for a week.
It will be a little difficult, but if you HAD to be alone, you could do it. Just have things at your house ready to go before surgery
