This is really clever. Years ago, I fooled my kids by bringing home some "rock tumbler" polished rocks, and then eating them. They were simply chocolate fake rocks.
This is definately my next prank

It would have totally gone in to my Capstone sugar art piece!! I'm definitely going to have to make these!! Awesome work!! Thanks for sharing! :)

My grandfather's 75th birthday is coming up this month, and I've been racking my brain over some sort of Hobby-Cake to make for him. He's got the geode's all over the house, some dating back to the 1850's that he got from his father. I'm going to make a few of these now, instead of killing myself to find a neat cake. He doesn't even like cake, hahaha. Thank you so much for sharing your talent! :)

Best way I've found yet of remembering my solutions section in Chemistry! The slower this saturated solution cools, the larger the crystals will be- and when the solution is heated, the solvent (water) becomes capable of holding more solute (sugar) so cool! :)

I've been watching your videos for a while now, and just found this one.
Not sure how I missed this!
My god, this is pure genius, and looks ever so much like a real geode!
I both love and deeply appreciate your vids, as not only you explain stuff really well, but you tend to explain WHY stuff works, and of course, just like in this one, you explain and show what happens if you have the dumb idea of doing your own thing and not following the instructions, lol! That is more valuable than you know!
Anyway, just needed to practice a bit of comment necromancy and comment to a years old vid....because it is still, and always will be, awesome :D

And im pretty sure it also tastes amazing, but i remember watching a video of yours and you said you only make the dessert once and that is while you're filming it. That is awesome. knowing me i would have to do it over and over till i get it right to have the confidence to film my self. But i guess that is why they say practice makes perfect. 😊 Happy Holidays, Ann!

+Qwerty 101 (QWERTY101) probbably because when you sift it it might kind of expand or because once you put flour into a bigger bowl you add different things so the mix would get larger and the small bowl will over flow:D

Made this twice this week and it failed both times even with following the recipe.
The sugar solution ate right through the fondant

I just discovered these videos and I LOVE them! they are so creative! You describe things very well and make it all look so simple. I also love how effortless the dialog flows and does not sound monotone or scripted. Also, my favorite accent :) keep up the awesome passion! --from the United States

I can't believe you insulted Ann Reardon in this manner, Especialy considering her good will to share such marvelous things with us. Anyone can clearly notice that she either has a bad cold or an allergy and yet she is still sharing. Disturbed or not, you should repent and apologize to her for such insult. What if someone had said that about you?

    • @Mary-ch7ph
      @Mary-ch7ph 9 лет назад

i do respect her and her videos and already said sorry. however i was truly very uncomfortable watching the video. If somebody told me that on a video i posted fully conscious of my voice being bad, i would accept that. Make me the bad guy for saying so. i'm an insensitive ass because i like to say my opinion directly, it's true.

I love crystals and minerals and even sell them at events (amongst other things) and thought this would be so much fun to make!
I did a quick all white fondant version and even though it was all white, it came out so great that when I brought my Candy treat to show off to one of my mineral suppliers, they Actually thought it was a Real Geode!!!! I'm looking forward to making some 'Amethyst' ones next! Thank you so much for such Fun wonderful recipes!

I'm excited to try this for my nephew's birthday tomorrow. But I'm going to try the fondant for the inner layer and then once the sugar's crystallized and dry, then I'll pour chocolate for the outer layer. Hoping it works!

I remember in 1st grade we were learning about geodes for some sort of strategy in writing, so we didnt know what a geode was since we were pretty young. It took a while to crack it open, so we had to wait after lunch. It was cool. The crystal was white, which is my favorite color.
