    Became a Chiefs fan in 90. Nice to see some guys like Lewis, Cherry, Lutz, Baldinger, Lowery, Paige and Maas on this footage.

    In the 1986 season, Albert Lewis was named the Kansas City Chiefs MVP after recording 69 tackles and four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one sack, and a blocked punt. He was also selected to the pro bowl.

    Wow, this brings back the memories. That 86 team was special to me. As a 18 year old I never seen the Chiefs make the playoffs. They lost 3 in a row towards the end of the season and the Chiefs had to win the last 3 games to make it. Denver 37-10, LA Raiders 20-17, and Pittsburg Steelers 24-19. In that last game, they blocked a punt for a TD, A FG block for a TD and a KOR of 97 yards Boyce Green. Faced the Jets in the Wild Card and Blackledge came off the bench and his first pass was an INT to the house to seal the game 28-6 for the Jets.

    I haven't checked defensive rankings, but that Chiefs defense and those special teams had to be some of the most hard-nosed units of the 1980's.

    Jets ended KC's season in that wildcard game, Jets were 10-6 but had been 10-1 & lost 5 straight to end the season. They seemed dead but came back to life in the game vs the Chiefs.

      All because the Chiefs offense and defense was trash and was mainly carried by their special teams

    Not often does a coach lead a team to the playoffs for the first time and then get fired.

      L E Very odd & this video was very disrespectful to John Macovick. Never mentioned him, or even showed him at all throughout here. It was all about Frank Ganz this incoming HC. Not being in that area, I wonder what went on behind the scenes to cause the bad blood?

    I’m a young chiefs fan born after the 80s , so I’m a little confused as to why the chiefs fired john mackovic after a 10-6 season and a playoff birth. Seemed like his offense was ahead of its time with all the motion and passing too...any idea as to why?

    • @G0Chiefs
      @G0Chiefs  4 года назад +5

      Chiefs kicker Nick Lowery wanted him fired so Frank Ganz could be the coach. Got enough support and he was gone. At least Marty came along after Ganz's 2 bad years. Ganz did draft Okoye at least.

      G0Chiefs interesting. From what I’ve read mackovic was not super popular as a coach outside of Kc. Marty did come anyway so it worked out though I do suppose like you said

      MAC was not liked by the players and Mr. Hunt acquiesced to the players' wishes to fire MAC and elevate Gansz whom they liked...In hindsight...this turned out to have been a rare mistake by Mr. Hunt...

    When you can see the fan seating, you can see a lot of empty seats. Raiders would always draw a big crowd. Broncos fans would travel from Denver to fill a lot of seats. Other games, not even close to being full.

    Frank Gansz Sr. Nice man, great special teams coach. Had no business being named a head coach. Lamar delayed success with that mistake, God bless him. The only good to come out of it was it paved the way to bring in Marty.

    First playoff berth in 15 years, and what do they do? They fire the head coach that got them there. In what amounted to a player mutiny, a group of players went to Lamar Hunt demanding that John Mackovic be released. Well, they got their wish, and Frank Gansz proved to be one of the worst head coaches in Chiefs history. His tenure was short, and his legacy was one of losing. Brilliant. I'm so glad the team finally found their way out of the wilderness. But it would be 30 years for them to truly become a championship caliber team. And the move to fire Mackovic did not help.
