  • If you love the Kansas City Chiefs and their colorful history, then you're going to love this terrific two-minute video by NFL Films which chronicles the uniform color history of the Chiefs franchise from its founding in Dallas in 1960 as part of the upstart AFL to te modern era in refurbished Arrowhead Stadium. Narrated by Scott Graham, one of the great voices of NFL Films, this video features three uniform history experts: Joe Horrigan who is VP Communications and Exhibits at the Pro Football Hall of Fame where he has worked for more than 35 years; Michael MacCambridge, author of "America's Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured A Nation" and many other books as well as editor of the massive "ESPN College Football Encyclopedia"; and Scott Sillcox, sports uniform historian.
If you are a huge Chiefs fan, you might be interested to know that the 13 pieces of original artwork used to create the Chiefs' famous uniform evolution poster -- the actual hand-painted watercolor paintings -- are available for sale at Heritage Sports Art www.HeritageSportsArt.com . When you watch this NFL Films video, you will see 4 of the 13 actual painted uniforms -- and you can actually own that original artwork!

I hope the Chiefs NEVER change their name or logo. I absolutely love the name Chiefs and the arrowhead logo with the interlocking KC l

Growing up in North Carolina, I always loved Lennie Dawson and the Chiefs colors. As a Virginia Tech Hokie who appreciates a loud stadium (Lane Stadium), Arrowhead in my opinion is the NFL equivalent in terms of noise level and fan devotion to their team, something Tech fans are known for.

      Hi Jim -
Many thanks for taking the time to comment. My goodness the folks at NFL Films do a great job on everything they touch - a pleasure to work with them. I love the gold and red and I find it amazing that no MLB or NHL teams have that terrific combination.
      All the best-
      Scott

I've always been impressed with how the arrowhead logo has been virtually unchanged since its inception in KC and it still looks sharp today.

If the IN N OUT BURGER fast food chain had a professional NFL team their colors would look exactly like the Kansas City Chiefs uniforms. Whenever, I watch the Chiefs play I always eat IN N OUT because they remind me of the fast food joint.

little lost, so did lamar hunt come up with the red and yellow? I learned the arrowhead and all that was him but who came up with the color scheme?

Yellow is not Gold. The 49ers are Red and Gold. I have always wondered why yellow is called "Gold" in sports.

Great comment Clay and I have to agree with you. Not sure we're going to be able to change people who choose to call Yellow "Gold", but the point is well made.

If you’ve always believed in yellow than you’ve always believed in gold 😌

I wish the chiefs logo was bigger in the middle of their field. It looks kind of small
