Whatever Marino's magnificent passing offense earned, the dreadful Dolphins defense gave away. The offense was one dimensional because of the lack of a running game. It was almost all Dan Marino and the passing game. Maybe a more balanced offense would have taken some some off the pressure off o the defense.
Thanks to this upload and video, I was able to remember that the Dolphins left the Orange Bowl for good after the 1986 season to go play in Joe Robbie Stadium starting in 1987.
I love 22:43, that little kid with a Miami Vice hat. I was about the same age that kid was back in 1987. Damn, back in the 1980s as a Florida resident, you got to go home and watch Miami Vice on Friday nights; got to see Dan Marino and the Marks brothers kill it on Sundays; AND you got to see a college football dynasty with the Miami Hurricanes. Wow.
that kid reminds me of all the Brown boys I grew up with. we dreamed of going to Miami because it was also a Brown man's city. I'm from the San Jose area and did everything u did except I watched Montana, rice and Taylor kill it & the San Jose Spartans stunk up the joint every sat..rico & tubbs were big out here, too
The Dolphins Team Stats in '86 were very similar to the Bills Team stats in '91 and '93 and the Bills were in the S.B. both of those years. The Dolphins were OFFICIALLY Ranked 26th on Defense while the Bills were OFFICIALLY Ranked 27th on Defense in both '91 and '93 by the NFL.
Miami's backs had 2,664 yards gained rushing and receiving while the Bills backs gained 3,150 yards in '91 and only 2,475 yards in '93 . So Miami avg. 30 yds. less per game than the '91 Bills BUT 12 yds. more per game than the '93 Bills.
The Bills were Ranked 5th in Rushing Attempts in '91 and Ranked 2nd in Rushing Attempts in '93 while the Dolphins were Ranked 28th (last) in Rushing Attempts in '86.
Now, you could see why they didn't have enough talent to get to the Super Bowl the year before. They were on the door step in the AFC Championship game the year before trying to get past the Pats and meet up with yet again, Chicago.
Would've been so nice to close out the Orange Bowl w/ a win, avenge the AFC championship loss & the thumping we took earlier @ Foxboro, but the defense once again just wasn't up for it ... JOE ROBBIE stadium ( not all these other blasphemous names that they keep calling HIS stadium that he built w/ his own money b/c the city wouldn't pitch in - WHEN DO YOU EVER HEAR OF AN OWNER USING HIS OWN MONEY TO BUILD A STADIUM INSTEAD OF JUST THREATENING TO MOVE THE TEAM?) was a beautiful, state-of-the-art marvel , but they did one thing wrong when they built it - they put the fans too far away from the field & Miami forever lost it's 12th man advantage...
the dolphins deserved another super bowl appearance during marino's era. they should have at least been the broncos or bills of their era, if not won a SB..sad that a QB and coach that great didn't bring back another championship to that city full of fair-weather fans..
That week 3 game w the Jets was one of the most exciting regular season games ever. 51-45 WOW
NO DEFENSE AT ALL!!

Miami gave up 10 points more per game on avg. than the '93 Bills, but they gave up only 5 points more per game than the ''91 Bills.

Back in the day Dan Marino passes were like missiles

Did anyone else catch at 13:41 the revenge sign from Ace Ventura?
Sucks losing last 2 home games and winning last 2 road games. Playoffs if not for that.🤢🤮
That terrible defense kept miami out of the playoffs
