It's interesting when Hayley Mills said parents can be too involved in their child's career, A picture of Macaulay Culkin his brother who was in The Father of the Bride movies, and their parents. I remember hearing that their dad was too involved and it messed with the family dynamic they had.
Anissa Jones, Gary Coleman and Heather o Rourke were some of the most heartbreaking cases of child stars who suffered the most I mean I know there are more but those 3 always make me cry
57th..well THANK the Guy who played JEFF on the DONNA REED show - he brought attention to Child stars Plight of Mistreatment and abuse..by parents / care givers / relatives .. who STOLE from the children
It was so wonderful seeing former child stars who are grounded and happy. I appreciate their contributions to the film and television industry. I still like a lot of the classic shows they were in, as a matter of fact, I was watching the Donna Reed Show just this week and it's FUNNY and still holds up beautifully. It's also nice that there is NO profanity or inuendo, I think a show without those two things is a better show as it's not lazy, usually has a better plot and is full of heart and fun for all!
Heavens to Murgagtroid ! Thank you very much for sharing this very informative & entertaining video ! Watching it has made my day, my week & my weekend ! :-)
I still remember when Barry Livingston & Erin Moran guest starred on The Bold & The Beautiful. They were Old Friends of Katie Logan who grew up in The Valley. Paul Petersen was a very lucky man. He lived to tell the tale, alot of kids who grew up who were doing shows had alot of problems. He even worked at Motown in the 1960's. Michael Landon "owned" LHOTP like nobody's Business. He "Fired" Jimmy McNichol for a Prank he did on The Set. He was also very strict about Education. When you weren't on The Set doing a Scene, you went to School no ifs, ands, or buts. Also The Mickey Mouse Club was next to American Bandstand the two most popular Shows for a Young Person to perform at. They were also strict about education. They really put the children through their paces. Can you sing, dance, act, play an instrument, write a song, ride a horse. Ironically in future years Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida would be the place where AJ McClean & Howie Dorough made their bones before the Backstreet Boys came along. Kim Fields was called a Sellout because she was a Black Girl in a predominately All White School. She was luckier. She didn't have addiction problems, she graduated from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, and she hosted a BET Filmmakers Show, and she even appeared on The Real Life Housewives of Atlanta who were very mean to her.
I heard in a show that Michael Landon was feeling pressure because he had a series of jobs on the show. I imagine that the stress he had trickled down to everyone else. I guess he could be let's get down business one minute and a jokester the next. How nerve-racking that must have been for everyone else on the set of Little House. Patty Duke, Kim Fields, Melissa, and Sara Gilbert, Malcolm Jamal Warner, and David Faustino not to mention Ricky Schroder, Christina Applegate, and Alyssa Milano all managed to do all right for themselves. You don't hear anything bad about Lisa Bonet anymore. She gave Bill Cosby a run for his money! Not fallen victims of the pitfalls of the child actor stereotype. I wonder if being a part of a family with a stable home environment makes a difference?
The Coogan Law stipulates that 80% of a Child Star's Earnings go into "Trust" but it never does. The Parents take. Aaron Carter had to declare Bankruptcy so his Parents wouldn't go to Prison. He still can't get his Stuff together professionally or personally. It's heartbreaking. I wish that Former Teen Idols like Shaun Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, Leif Garrett, would talk to him. Say "we were where you once were and we moved on and so can you." Being A Pop Star is just a part of who you are but not it's not you as a whole person.
Malcolm Jamal Warner's Mother was very smart. Can you imagine the "Bank" that was lost with The Cosby Show Debacle. It was cancelled on Centric a African American Network. Remember Geoffrey Owens ended up working at Trader Vic's because he wasn't getting Acting Jobs.
It sounds like Chip Fields knew how to rein in Kim when she got a little too big for her britches. Especially since her mom acted herself. It was great that The Facts of Life producers backed her up when Kim got out of line. People may not agree that her mom slapped her, but that is not the point. Chip was doing her job as Kim's mother. Acting was a job and it paid the bills. Chip was a mother first.
@Jared Warner Having a maid wasn't the point. Cleaning her room was Kim's responsibility. She made the mess, she had to clean up after herself. Settling boundaries is important.
@Jared Warner, I think you're missing the point of Kim's story. Her mother told her to clean her room. Kim thought that cleaning her room was beneath her and the maid should do it. Kim thought she was a big television star and did not have to do household chores anymore. Kim started to get a major ego problem. Hence, why her mother called the producers. Kim's mom made the call as a warning to her daughter. If she acted like a spoiled brat again, she'd be off The Facts of Life for good.
Wow... They are speaking in such an upbeat way and don't even mention the worst. But it is still horrible to hear the terrible abuse (mental, emotional and physical). I'd NEVER put my child in acting for SO MANY REASONS!!!
I remember watching this. I love all of these actors and wish them the best! It seems like the way to protect them is to screen them the same way as low-wage jobs. Are you a criminal? Are you a sex predator? Are you proven to be unreliable? But no, it's about the face and how many eyeballs you can attract. I love all of these guys in this video.I wish I could give MILLLIONSSS! to A Minor Consideration. I thank them all for the entertainment!!!😘😘😘
I never saw this before because I am a kid and I love all of them so much and is I so crazy that I know almost all of them and when I grow up I want to be a actress and a singer and a Broadway star and a model
Child stars, grow up too. All child stars need to have someone care about them and their needs. Someone not in the movie business or their own parents. Perhaps no one fills that gap except a child welfare worker. Some separate person who is accountable over their fiance, with a judge to control all in the childs best interests.
I don't feel sorry for any of them or any of you sure I watched the shows I been a courtesy clerk at Walmart janitor dishwasher lets see anyone do that and them to I like working hard
Exactly. Yes, I understand that their parents spent most (or nearly all) of their earnings, but they sound like a ‘common’ job is beneath them. I think the true hero here was Jon Provost, Timmy on Lassie. He didn’t whine or complain, he became a successful real estate agent. The smartest of all of them to not pursue, and to stay out of show business.
I love Kim Fields. She is so funny too!
"...and when you go out for *recess* there's the Universal Tour going by!"
😂
I feel sorry for all of them. They were used and their childhood was sacrificed.
So do I.
Especially Judy Garland she was one of the child stars that had a sad life
I remember this special. I haven't seen it since it first aired 20 years ago. Great show
Met Tony Dow several times over the years, at autograph shows. Always a kind, sweet & lovely guy! Miss him!
Patty Duke was and will always be one of my All Time Favorite Actresses. A Beautiful Extremely Talented Soul ❤️
It's interesting when Hayley Mills said parents can be too involved in their child's career, A picture of Macaulay Culkin his brother who was in The Father of the Bride movies, and their parents. I remember hearing that their dad was too involved and it messed with the family dynamic they had.
We need an updated documentary
Anissa Jones, Gary Coleman and Heather o Rourke were some of the most heartbreaking cases of child stars who suffered the most I mean I know there are more but those 3 always make me cry
It wasn't covered in this documentary but I though Bobby Driscoll was a tragedy. He is like the archetype of the child star tragedy.
@Jared Warner, I think Heather O'Rourke just had major health issues. That alone was sad. Poor Carol-Anne!
@@123451248ify She likely did not speak up about them because she didn't want to disrupt production.
Also Jay North and Patty Duke. And the little Rascals from decades ago.
I looked for this special for years, thank God I found it at last. Thank you for uploading it.
We lost Tony Dow on 7/27/22, He will be missed.
And we lost Diana Serra Cary AKA Baby Peggy
5/21/23 update: The members of the round table that are still with us are Margaret O'Brien, Billy Gray, Melissa Gilbert, Kim Fields, and Sara Gilbert.
56:50 RIP Johnny Crawford.
remember that song put a smile on. your face 😊
Poor little Anissa. She always looks so sad. Makes you wonder what was happening at her ‘real’ home, or off set, for her to be so unhappy. 🥲💔
Veronica Cartwright's guest-appearances as "ADA Margaret Flanagan" in "LA LAW" were awesome! Highly recommended!

This is why kids should not be movie or music stars they maybe cute but remember there kids
𝚃𝙷𝙰𝙽𝙺𝚈𝙾𝚄 𝙵𝙾𝚁 𝚄𝙿𝙻𝙾𝙰𝙳𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚂𝙴 𝚅𝙸𝙳𝙴𝙾𝚂!!
I have a notion to second that emotion !! :-)

Sad that he's gone now
Poor little Peggy 😔
She sacrificed her entire childhood and didn't get anything to show for it.
I agree. Shortly before she died, there was a GoFundMe set up to raise money for her health care. It was really sad.
1:07:04...The look on Margaret O'Brien's face..."Get me away from these nuts!!!"
Margaret O'Brien came off as someone who had an enjoyable time acting, but never really bought into the drama of it.
Geoffrey Owens didn't get acting gigs because he's a terrible actor.

What did you expect, they’d sit there and cry and complain? They’ve accepted it, dealt with it and moved on.
I remember watching this. I love all of these actors and wish them the best! It seems like the way to protect them is to screen them the same way as low-wage jobs. Are you a criminal? That Clint Howard hun always scared me, even as a kid..weird looking. Looks like Chucky 😵💫
Clint Howard was so cute. Liked his and his father Rances work on Seinfeld as well.
I read a couple of months ago that Ricky Schroder bailed some dude out of jail. Also, a couple of I read that Schroder has some beef with Costco.
I like billy grey
When child stars leave Hollywood story no sad but everybody money 🤑
From What year is this?

They are people like you and me. They have problems. You don’t know what they have gone through when cameras weren’t rolling.
sometimes i was my parents put me in show business lol
I never saw this before because I am a kid and I love all of them so much and is I so crazy that I know almost all of them and when I grow up I want to be a actress and a singer and a Broadway star and a model
How about you focus on learning to speak and write like a normal person first? You sound like an illiterate idiot. 🥱🙄😂🖕🏻
Child stars, grow up too. All child stars need to have someone care about them and their needs. Someone not in the movie business or their own parents. Perhaps no one fills that gap except a child welfare worker. Some separate person who is accountable over their fiance, with a judge to control all in the childs best interests.
Can somebody please tell me the date of which this came out
First aired in 2000, I believe.
I deduce it's 2000 from previous comments.
..
2000. I watched it when it aired.
Child stars after Hollywood tougher get back in acting not easy
Sara Gilbert turned around and back stabbed Roseanne Barr after all Roseanne did for her- I’m sure Roseanne wished she would have chosen another kid.
Following
Child stars leave business cute anymore need anymore sad story child stars
Dana Poato's suicide was heartbreaking. Did Howard Stern have anything to do w it? Did his gags & jokes go just a bit too far? 😿😿
Why is child stars cute after leave career down toilet
ilove melissa gilbert
she played that role smh and i couldn't stand nelly..
Bunch of rich whiney ingrates.
Danny Bonaduce is so full of himself. I didn't even like him on the Partridge Family. These other kids were actually talented.
I never saw Sara Gilbert as a good actress, too boring
I don't feel sorry for any of them or any of you sure I watched the shows I been a courtesy clerk at Walmart janitor dishwasher lets see anyone do that and them to I like working hard
