Agreed. Also, let's not forget that it's okay to be a creeper and seduce a married woman while also not taking no for an answer. She says she's not ready? Just go for that kiss anyway. Also, if you get cross with your wife, it's perfectly fine to smack her while insulting her. No worries, mate, she'll come around. Ugh. This was a horrid movie.

Even when this TV movie first aired, I thought patty wasn’t heavy enough in the films first half. Even so ,I think the message was important. Showing the obsession to be “skinny” as illustrated by the best friend character, and the dangers of it. Eating unhealthy foods due to low self esteem ( the glove compartment candy wrappers scene). Patty is always enjoyable to watch.
I agree to disagree people with low self esteem come in all shapes and sizes. It just boils down to food can be an addiction just like alcohol, drugs, gambling etc. It just is a way to cope with problems which just makes problems worse just like an alcoholic.
Being skinny started with the model Twiggy. In my day no one was heavy or fat, which is stored energy, every person seemed happy with themselves. My mom cooked our meals, never did she discuss weight gain. Being happy children was what Mom aim for us. Non of us were fat of her 9 children . Now, everyone is obsessed, men and women and sad to say even children. Why? Because everyone has an opinion on the subject and most crazy time period we live in. People dress sloppy today with a few exceptions. Just saying.
We’re all eating genetically modified food from meat to potatoes, vegetables, fruit etc. “Organic?” If you say so. This stuff just never fills ya up or keeps ya satiated. We’re dressing “sloppy” because clothes are made to fit tiny oriental women and the clothing made overseas-which is basically all of it-is sloppily made from cheap, trash fabric. I can no longer find a plain, short sleeve, crew neck T-shirt in white that isn’t translucent in ANY price range. At 5’ 5”, 130 lbs. finding clothing that fits and is opaque has become futile. I’m totally disgusted with the women’s clothing industry.
So true none of us 7 were obese my mum cooked every day we had meat and potatoes. We even had sausage a nd homemade chips inward once aweek.but our dinner plates were smaller.we always had rice pudding after on a tea Plate with bread and butter.never bowls full of food 🇬🇧
That husband grates on me. I was married 38 years and we grew old together actually he gained the most weight when he retired from being a police officer and Detective. I loved him until he passed away. I am thin because I eat balanced meals do not drink or smoke. Butttt I am older.
Betty White was blessed with some serious genetics! Plus, she had a great outlook on life and loved animals which is probably why she always looked so good.
Patty's mom was a piece of work, but she DID take care of the home, kids, meals, laundry, etc. for weeks while Patty "found herself." My mom would have looked at me like I had a hole in my head if i had asked her to do the same.
Simply change the men...and give a damn about what others say.Not only about the weight ❤️It's not easy but possible. It's ya mind and body...priority.When I was anorexic.. some humans said to me:Oh you lost weight...looking really good. We're living in an unhealthy society.Find ya own way and start breathing 💖
I went through a period of post high school, lots of things to contend with, including a chronically ill Mother who needed me, family issues, and not knowing who or what I wanted to be. I became anorexic, lost my periods, and basically almost wrecked my own health. It took about 3 years, and my own strength of will, to overcome it. It was long before anorexia became a household word. Karen Carpenter's death was the real catalyst I needed to make me realize.
Sorry to hear you had Anorexia but so very glad that you overcame it!!! I was Anorexic also but even though I heard about Karen Carpenter it took me years to overcome that and bulemia. Such a double standard in our society.
I was that Iowa Farm Wife that was forced to make a sweet everyday. My husband told me I had to learn to make pie like his mom,so I had to go to her farm house and watch how she did it. l could never mK a perfect pie ,inorder to make him happy and he d be sweet to me. I saw my daughter become obese then when she turned 15 she told me she hated herself.I one day saw he losing weight as I weighed 120#s at 5'6"" tall. She wanted to be like me.Id make pie ,but didn t eat it. I found her losing and then when she turned 16,she was voted onto the cheerleading squad. She teamed with gals and was very happy with her appearance. She was happy and worked as an assistant store manager in Family Foods Grocery Store. She worked for her own new skinny clothes and bought her own new car. She was so sure of herself, but soon I saw a very frail daughter, say I asked her about losing too much weight. Her dad was heavy set on the farm . I couldn t under stand how he lost so much weight in a short amount of time. She wasn t eating and just working. To make a long story short, she d been throwing up het food and like a movie she saw was storing her puke in her clasey in jars. She s 53 years old and realized what I talked to her about. My conversation went sour until she saw how I kept weight off. I eat one small dessert and can quit. She saw her siblings gain and be obese. I climbed all over my three sons of whom the youngest is 47;years old and was Always trim, for my kids were athletes like me and not like their dad. I saw they d pick thin girls to be with when all of a sudden my Daughter-in-law s were getting plump then with big butts! Each time we had a holiday they d make wonderful desserts. I mentioned their weight problem, only to meet up with defiance. They all attacked me,so I thought I d show them how d I look if I carried more weight,so I ate their desserts and lots of turkey and mashed potatoes they d make. When we had the next holiday meal they commented on my weight gain. They re pleased in how hey look, obese! I don t feel good as I got sluggish and sat around crocheting, sewing and knitting slot. I looked in the mirror and like what I saw namely an obese woman. I couldn t fit in my skinny jeans,so I ve cut out my chocolate cake and fudge brownies. It s going to be a long road to be back on track again. I weighed 191#s and now I m down to 161#s. The only time I was that weight is when I was pregnant with my third child. My OBGYN told me if I didn t lose that weight my husband had a right to throw me into the street! Did he ever get the message to me! I lost all that weight after Kevin was born.! He weighed at birth:9#9oz.He was my biggest baby out of five children I carried. I felt so good about myself once again. I m fitting into my skinny jeans again. The cute is cut back on sweets and chocolate bars and eat fruit veggies and meat. I ll get there in my weight as I eat rice and cooked chicken in water and cook veggies in water. It takes alot of will power to eat a few potato chips when I watch these movies on UTUBE and I ran out of seed popcorn as I pop my own using Sunflower oil to cook it in. Popcorn makes me skinny. I need to find more.
KTen@@pinkrose5796 you mention Karen Carpenter and I cry, because I loved her singing and how her brother Richard Carpenter and her were so in time with each other. Her song "look at the Two of Us" and "Songbird" were two of my favorites. When she sang I watched her very fervently! I too miss her. There will never be another singer like her.I through my teenage years admonished her beautiful soft voice. There ll never be another like Karen forever to come as she was one of a kind... 💝😭❤️. 💝. Will anybody ever admit one can have a mentor like The Carpenters? Karen was petite and sweet plus a cutie pie. There I m talking pie again. The last piece of pie I ate was last week when I babysat for my little grandson Arik, who is three almost four in June 2022. He is small boned and yet strong. I wrestle with all four of my little grandsons and are they ever strong muscular guys. The eldest is seven and what a wrestler he is! jayce is five soon to be six and is highly intelligent besides being tall for his age and muscular. Jareth asjked his mom,my youngest daughter if I can come over to their house. They live to all pile on top of me! Wrestle is what they want to do. I love to put them in headlocks and play the game I made up "Upside Down Clown!".When I say that they jump into the air allover me! We have fun without hurting each other. ..
It was like that in the '70s. Trust me. You think it's bad now? Huh! I was in my twenties in the 70s and weighted 105 pounds at 5'6". I was always dieting and exercising. And so was everyone else. I kind of chortle when people say how much fat-shaming goes on now. No fat-shaming goes on now until you're well over 200 pounds. In the '70s - if you were not in a size 6 or lower, you were 'fat.'
Bradford Dillman was married to Suzy Parker. I never liked his beady eyes. But this was the only movie I’ve seen him in. I was a kid, and I thought he was a jerk.
Her husband does not deserve another consideration. "When you were fat I felt betrayed". Her weight will always be the deciding factor: not his love for her.

@@katrinkasanfranciscobayare7364 Thanks! You as well! Actually, haha, I've been binge watching The Patty Duke Show, this afternoon. The show is comedically entertaining & enlightens us back to yesteryear. One of my favorite Patty Duke movies, however, reveals her versatility & ability to successfully interchange between subjects & play any characteristic in any given role, on any platform. In the movie, she plays a perfect celebrity, who slips into a dark & complicated role, with addiction & dysfunction & Hollywood secrets, as the storyline. She could walk from comedy, straight into hell, without a thought. Her role as the blind child in Hellen Keller, was acclaimed as genius natural talent. Then years later, she transitioned from the blind child role, into the teacher. Amazing! As she grew up, she never stopped. Always on the elite list of celebrities & professionalism & success. Her son, Sean Astin, inherited her sense of humor & the acting talent of both his parents. There are so many shows & movies of hers, to choose from. Her biography is daunting. She was the one & only!

First, look at Betty White❤️. However, this movie brings painful memories for me. I’ve struggled with my weight for almost 40 years. Being a 13 year old in the middle of a bunch of adults at weight watchers, avoiding pool parties etc made me feel so depressed and ashamed.
He f****** hit her out of slap his ass back at the f****** wedding and I can't believe the story continue without touching on that he never even apologized
I have always loved Patty Duke. I used to watch The Patty Duke Show. In my experience it was about stuffing down my feelings with food, when I really started dealing with my insecurities and anger I started eating less.
My guy likes me thick😁 I'll tell you what, I started to gain weight... and I love it!! I fell the other day and I actually bounced as I fell. I think if I would have been skinny and frail I would have broke. 🤣😅🤣🤣🤣😅🤣🤣
Reading some of the comments has made me want to contribute here as well. Lots of people are annoyed and outraged at the outdated ideas about weight, but as someone who grew up during the 70s, I can attest that IT WAS THIS WAY. People were OBSESSED with dieting and it became a big business. It's also a time when eating disorders first became known to the general public. Also, a few things about this movie..it is NOT a Lifetime or cable movie. This was shown on actual network TV, on ABC. I remember watching it first run and enjoying it very much. I loved Patty Duke's defiance against the shallow people around her, her sarcasm and humor. She lost weight for herself and learned about herself in the process. Conchatta Farrell was fantastic. The movie is really satire, a black comedy and a huge jab at the ridiculous obsession with weight and the shame people put on you.
You have turned me Patty! Of course I remember her, but really have brought her out of my unconscious always there, a part of culture, I really admire & want to know more, please, don't just stand there, I am so glad for your channel to explore all that she did, thanks! And love the VCR click-baiting ads & clips, of another era, love it! Glimpses of days gone past.
I always liked Patty Duke. She was a great actress. I think the same height as me, about 5' 1 1/2 ." So sad she passed away too soon. With so many tall actresses, it's always nice too see the shorter height actresses, like Sissy Spacek too. When you watch the award shows, all actresses are so tall and thin.
The pig mask scene???!! WTAF. husband is a total jerk! Her mother is unbelievable. I can't get my head around this movie...It was satisfying to see her journey but was very odd watching something SO un P.C!!!
I had a friend whose mom was awful to her about her weight. Almost destroyed her. My mom was always so unconditionally loving I couldn't believe all moms weren't.
Thats why we have so many woman and young girls with self-image problems. And men that can't appreciate their woman and changes in their bodies after children
Carol's husband is revolting! He seemed pretty nice until she finds out he has been cheating on her with multiple younger (?) women here and there. Even worse, he tries to justify it as just 'fulfilling needs' (disrespecting ALL the women) and insinuating it's because she is no longer as slender as she was in college. (Aside from the fact that Carol is gorgeous and is NOT fat by any sensible person's judgement, nobody in the movie ever considers that Carol has had two children since getting married. Try going through that and maintaining your college days figure, Carol's husband.) Then HE leaves HER. He gets jealous when she loses weight and has a fling with a younger, better-looking man. He tries to push his way brazenly into bed with her, even though she has made it very clear she doesn't want him. He continues to ignore her 'no' and forces himself on her. She slaps him in desperation, then HE slaps her back twice as hard and walks out. Finally he tries to tell her loves her in any shape or form...it just happens that she is slim and stylish again. Call the lawyer now, Carol!! Ditch this jerk. Can't believe they wrote this character as the male lead.
I love Marge!!! She has a wonderful attitude! Patty is not fat and never was😂. So when I look at her skinny arms and legs you know they put fattening stuff around her middle.
I can’t stand her hubby, who leaves their husbands or wives because they gain weight. Absolutely horrible

Wow! I haven't even seen it and I hate it already.
I have always been large. I have low thyroid, deformed pituitary and have been on steroids for a rare disease. My husband married me at 160 pounds, 5 feet 2inches. We had a great relationship. He didn't mind when I went up to 400 pounds. He did not like it when I lost 250 pounds. Lol He treated me with love and respect always. R IP
This movie is hard to take seriously. She isn't even fat. Looks great to me.
@@babble2leeza yeah they just put Patty in ill fitting clothes to hide the fact she wasn't really big enough to split those pants. It was nice to see Cathy Bates so young though. It must have been one of the first movies she did starting out.
My daughter was anorexic and almost died from it, so this is hard to watch. She did pass away 5 years ago, but did not pass from anorexia, she was a healthy weight when she passed, but eating disorders are more of the mind than the body.

The way the husband called Patty Duke fat - the way Patty Duke called herself fat - in spite of her looking healthy and radiant - is really upsetting…
It's hard to make an actress look fat when she's not. In this case Patty Duke had to wear bigger clothes, when in actuality she was pretty thin.
R.I.P. Patty Duke
This movie is incredible, god bless any women on this earth who actually has a shape, we r perfect the way we are
Amen!
Every woman is built differently so weight is just a number. Love your body, feel good about yourself, and NEVER compare yourself to anyone else.
Anything with Patti Duke, I’m in.
Same x
It’s hard getting old and ugly. Even if you are thin. 😓

People don't have eating binges due to low self esteem. They bury their feelings with food.
@@skibunny1631 I disagree. Self esteem, society pressures ,unresolved feelings, can all be a factor.
I agree to disagree people with low self esteem come in all shapes and sizes. It just boils down to food can be an addiction just like alcohol, drugs, gambling etc. It just is a way to cope with problems which just makes problems worse just like an alcoholic.
Low self esteem is the result of gorging yourself with food and becoming fat, not the cause of it. I've seen it in my life with people I know.
Fast food obsession has contributed to weight gain and diabetes. As for clothing, I buy all my clothes at thrift stores. 🤗
So true none of us 7 were obese my mum cooked every day we had meat and potatoes. We even had sausage a nd homemade chips inward once aweek.but our dinner plates were smaller.we always had rice pudding after on a tea
Plate with bread and butter.never bowls full of food 🇬🇧
That husband grates on me. I was married 38 years and we grew old together actually he gained the most weight when he retired from being a police officer and Detective. I loved him until he passed away. I am thin because I eat balanced meals do not drink or smoke. Butttt I am older.
Maybe better to die younger and live a happy life than live long and be nasty and bitter
I just realized Betty White was in this movie too. I recognized her voice any where
And wasn't she beautiful! Can't believe this was 6 years before Golden Girls 😃
I thought that looked like Bette White. Thanks for the confirmation. 😊😊😊😊
betty white looks great, still has that wonderful personality
I think the artist guy reminds me of a tall Peter Dinklage. Patty Duke and Barbara Feldon were such beautiful women.
I was thinking a blonde Grant goodeve. From 8 is enough ...
I watched this twice now and I'm sorry I just don't see where patty duke was fat .
Maybe a little chubby but definitely not that big, course standards were different in those days
I HOPE you doing ok now.God bless.
He wrote it and both played instruments She loved to drum a d she was my incentive to keep thin and beautiful,so I when I heard she died I wept for a whole bunch of time! We have fun without hurting each other. ..

This was a really good movie. Love Patty Duke. Her husband doesn't deserve her and her Mother is really condescending toward her.
she’s not overweight. LOL
She was 5’0” , so was overweight at 139lbs
Betty White is just delicious in this!!
Love betty! Bless her.
Barbara Feldon was wrong. Not eating just makes things muc, much, worse.
Better ending...she becomes an amazing artist...dates men who are worthy of her🦋
This movie is kind of upsetting… geez… she’s NOT FAT!
Jesh shes just under 10 stone and they are all making a massive deal out of it.
This is nuts!!
Ten stone is 60 kg, was she less than that? She's very small.
@@yes2day100 man black women were just obese then because ain’t no way. Idc how much weight I lose my big butt ain’t going no where.
Damn I guess Betty White was in everything😂😂😂😂
Not Everything.. but I wouldn't have minded if she was.
Bradford Dillman was married to Suzy Parker. I never liked his beady eyes. But this was the only movie I’ve seen him in. I was a kid, and I thought he was a jerk.
I don't like him either. I think he's a very good actor in anything hes in. But he seems like a jerk.
Did she just say 130 lbs was fat??? UGH!!!
Right! Insanity!
Right? 130 lbs is NOT obese.
139...
I haven't finished the movie yet, but her husband is a jerk! Totally unsupportive and mean!
Great film. Enjoyed it!
What a pretty lady patty duke! All the women in this movie were pretty.
She was wonderful
She had better not take his sorry ass back!
Wow. That's a major example of body shaming.. 😔
It was sad and shocking all at the same time seeing Betty White playing the bad guy byotch. lol
sorry, bout that ma'am; meant the body shaming that the husband was.perperating.
Patty is one of my favorite actress how is she fat she looks wonderful in this
I agree!

You gain a new member today because PATTY DUKE ! I just love her truly acting ways... ;-)
Her husband does not deserve another consideration. "When you were fat I felt betrayed". Her weight will always be the deciding factor: not his love for her.
Such a wonderful, gifted actress and beautiful person. Miss her.
love her skirts and dresses she looks so good!
Omg look how young Conchita Farrell was b4 she was Berta on 2 an a half men.... evry1 was so young an pretty....
ALWAYS have, always will, love everything Patti Duke. Famous Child actress. Iconic female actress. Star celebrity. I still watch The Patti Duke Show! Exceptional Talent. Beautiful. She was extremely versatile. No limit to her range of skill. A perfectionist. Everything she acted in, was the best of entertainment! Very impressive beautiful personality.
I just finished watching Something So Right on RUclips with Patty Duke.
It was a pretty good movie as well.
I appreciated reading your comment.

Yes absolutely Patty Duke amazes me.
Another actress who has also amazed me is Sally Fields.
I watched her in the movie David Copperfield the other day.
Both actresses are excellent women on and off the stage.
Have a great evening.
@@katrinkasanfranciscobayare7364 Agree! Sally Field is a favorite of mine as well. You're correct, both women are amazing & versatile. Oh & btw, the movie title is: Valley of The Dolls, starring Duke, along with other talented & beautiful actresses. It's not a comedy, so be prepared. But her acting is amazing, as always. Enjoy, & have a pleasant evening! Best of health to you & yours. Jb Baton Rouge.
@@katrinkasanfranciscobayare7364 PS: Sally Fields in Forest Gump! Mrs. Doubtfire! Sybil... Everything! For a lol, surf around for "The Flying Nun". Yes, Sally had a sitcom! Also liked her in that Burt Reynolds movie, (the title escapes me) but its now a cult retro flic. Oh & OMG, lest I forget Steel Magnolias!!
She's also got this gorgeous George Michael looking guy interested lucky 🤣
I miss Betty White so much RIP 😢. I felt so bad for Carol's friend Penny, she could've had her own movie.😔
First, look at Betty White❤️. However, this movie brings painful memories for me. I’ve struggled with my weight for almost 40 years. Being a 13 year old in the middle of a bunch of adults at weight watchers, avoiding pool parties etc made me feel so depressed and ashamed.
I also was put in weight watchers at the age of 14 with a bunch of adults but my mom would always come with me.
It feels like a lot of young women were monitored for their weight when they start puberty.
She doesn't look fat!
The gaslighting from the mom is unbearable. 😢
Love it
My guy likes me thick😁
I'll tell you what, I started to gain weight... and I love it!!
I fell the other day and I actually bounced as I fell.
I think if I would have been skinny and frail I would have broke.
🤣😅🤣🤣🤣😅🤣🤣
Betty White can be seen at 40:39 in this movie.
She was beautiful inside and out. That's what counts.
I like how they put Patty in layers to make her look heavy. And stood her next to very tall ladies. 😂
That is because they are dudes.
Actually she was 5 foot even
So true. Hard to look thin from just being short.
People were not “PC” in 1979!
Right? Every time she said she was fat or someone else said she was I wanted to throw my phone. Hell, I wish I weighed 139 lbs.
The husband was a total a-hole!
Fat shaming👎She was successful in losing the weight when she did it for herself. Was so glad to see her out of those grey sweats😜
Thats why we have so many woman and young girls with self-image problems. And men that can't appreciate their woman and changes in their bodies after children
LOL, Patty is not fat in this! Even Conchata Farrell is at a healthy weight.
Calorie counters anaymous; is that Betty white!?*
1979!! Never heard of it - thought it was the one with Streep and Neeson.
