This movie made me so angry at the system they way the emergency bell went ignored and Dr. keys cover up and trivialised the whole matter. Very hard to watch.
I know exactly how this woman felt. Painful to watch with Patty's great acting skills. Feeling dirty, blaming yourself, nightmares, trust issues then cops and Dr's put you through it again. As an adult I worked in behavioral health with juvenile sex offenders. Hoping I could reduce/stop future victims from the lifetime of damage it creates. Always report abuse, endure the dr exam and cops questions. You will make a paper trail, a history of crimes that will eventually put the abuser behind bars. They don't stop on their own. They become more violent. They don't care about gender, race or age. Be safe.

I was the victim of a brutal assault by a school resource officer. At the ER the police were contacted but they failed to respond. They protect their own officers rather than the victim.
It's terrible the way higher ups handle their employees. He only cared about moving up in his career. I would have gone to the E.R. and had the police handle it. Never trust "others" to handle things for you...
Pressuring - even suggesting to her that they handle it "internally" instead of going to the police should be criminal by itself!!! And look how the victims have to hide what happened to them - knowing publicity , and the blame that will come their way. And the retribution. This movie is decades old; but things haven't changed (improved) all that much, if any!!! And it's not just in schools.

This time of two hour shows was a half hour every two just for commercials. Unreal. It is still 90 minute movies. Just skip commercials or not. Some are cool to see and remember.
PLOT-- Sarah McDavid, an idealistic young teacher, takes a job in a rough high school where she is eventually attacked and raped in her classroom after school hours and decides to buck the school system in an attempt to make schools safer for students and teachers alike, against the advice of the school's principal, Dr. Keys, who tries to gloss over the hazardous conditions and the incident itself to avoid bad publicity and decreased enrollment.
I’ve remembered the rape scene ever since I saw this on t.v. When I was about 8 or 9. I was disturbed to no end. Watching this now, I’m shocked that Ned Beatty wasn’t a little more compassionate toward Patty Duke, especially considering his own rape in Deliverance. I guess this was the first time I ever saw Eric Stoltz and Ally Sheedy, four or five years later I would have been crushing on Ally in St. Elmo’s Fire.
The movie was good but it didn't quite make sense to me. In todays movie that is associated with this kind violence, there is usually a capture and trail. That didn't happen in this film. But it still good because the teacher stood up for herself with the school board.😊
That was a complete waste of an hour and two thirds! It could have been powerful and inspiring, but it wasn't because it had twenty minutes of plot, at best. No disrespect to the actors, they did what could with what they had. But the script needed a lot work.

I feel it also helps students to realize that teachers are human just like everyone and helps the student/teacher relationship. That always makes it easier for a student to learn better from that teacher. I had a couple teachers like this growing up and they were always my favorites!

Notice how he complimented her on the color she was wearing and then already called in a favor for hiring her as a teacher with less experience by telling her to not join the other teachers who don’t support his programs?
If SLOW patient considerate passive understanding unknowledgeable was a person. 1. She know what was going on in the school, should have never stayed in the class alone ESPECIALLY with the door unlocked. 2. Didn’t call the police after the crime and didn’t go to a hospital/police.
