The new eBay scam is also they are going after sellers as well, scoping out all the high dollar completed auctions. I recently sold a camera and sure enough, I got what looked like a legit email from somebody telling me how excited they were to win the camera, but they were out of town visiting family for a few weeks, and provided me with a different address asking me to send it to their families house that they were visiting at. I can’t imagine people that actually do this, and then hear from their real buyer that paid for the item wanting to know why they never received it.
Sounds like the real buyer is in on the scam which is how the other person knew when to email you. They certainly would pretend to be mad when seeking their refund but they would be laughing while they split the money.
If I buy from EBay I only purchase a watch from a listing where it goes through the EBay authentication service. That way you have an independent party inspecting the watch and making sure it’s legit and then they ship you the watch. The even give you an NFT enabled certificate of authentication. It’s a great service.
I've heard a couple of stories about ebay authentication is not all that. Whoever is authenticating is not going to be an expert in what to look for in every watch they handle.
It's not an NFT, it's an NFC card that you get. I also agree with Watch-Tang Clan. Their authenticators (at least in the UK) have let slip some fakes through the process. If you Google it you'll see what I mean
I receieved a rolex that ticks SUPER LOUD THE WATCH WAS 20 GRAMS UNDER WEIGHT & the rolex crowns were just HORRIBLE. Came with the ebay authentication card and everything. That blue check means nothing 3,500 for a fake watch. Going through the return process now.😊
I have an Omega Speedmaster Mark II. I bought it in 1974 new. Over the years I kept it properly maintained. I have been getting it maintained by the Omega service place where I live. I keep it in excellent condition. I bought it back then to use when flying air charters. It makes for an excellent aviation type watch. The version I have is with the sapphire glass. I would have no interest to sell this watch. I am attached to it since I have it since I was in my early 20s. I have some other Omega watches. I am presently wearing one from their Planet Ocean series. I buy them new from an authorized Omega dealer. I know I pay top dollar for them, but I know I am getting a proper authentic watch with a warranty. They are very good watches.
Same here i rather buy directly from the store, unless its from someone i know a friend or a friend of a friend. But i like it new, i get a different bond to the watch when i buy it new. Also i like going into the store looking at watches talk to the professional sellers and learn a thing or two, when you say you will buy they serve you a drink, its the whole experience you get from buying from these quality brands in store, a luxury feel.
Interesting. I've purchased quite a few watches on eBay and never had any trouble, but have had several instances where I've put watches up for bidding and never received payment from the winner. Unlike buyers who can be wary of sellers with poor eBay ratings, as a seller you have no control over who bids on your items.
I've bought many watches on eBay without a problem until the last one. Purchased a new Casioak from what appeared to be a reputable gray market seller. Received a counterfeit watch (my girlfriend said "what is the world coming to when they fake Casios?"). Filed a claim with eBay and received a full refund within one hour of filing the claim. Good service from eBay on that one.
I splurged on an Omega on ebay. Was really excited about it when it arrived but after wearing it for a few days I noticed something was off. Looking closer I noticed water damage. I’m still waiting for my refund from ebay which I expect any day now, but super disappointing process. Won’t be buying off ebay again.
So you are getting a full refund after realizing a watch had water damage days after receiving it? But you won't buy on eBay again? You would NOT be getting a refund on any other platform in your scenario. eBay is protecting you, the buyer. Why are you seeing it as a negative?
Similar story, I purchased two G-Shocks on blow out sale from that I thought was Dick's Sporting Goods online advertizment. Charged my card, got shipping info. 2 weeks later delivered to another state. I checked my receipt and realized it was scam website a few letters off from the real Dicks. Finally the link to the scam website stopped working immediately after delivery. My CC company covered it.
I haven’t had a problem with EBay’s authentication guarantee service in fact I recommend you only buy it through that service. However with vintage pieces that could be a concern.
I would say Ebay does protect the buyer quite well. as soon as you inform them they usually get your money back asap. Its actually a lot easier to get scammed when selling something.
I bought a Speedy Reduced from Japan on Ebay. It came with a loose center seconds hand that fell off within a day of getting the watch. I opened a claim and ebay said they had to give me my money back without me returning the watch to japan (thus forfeiting the forex and duty costs). I clicked a button saying I wasn't returning the watch and then Ebay said they were contractually bound to side with the seller since I clicked that button. I had a full service done locally and the watch is very nice, but that cost me an additional 300usd equivalent. Ebay isn't a great place to buy watches but I still did ok on my 3510.50 -- I'd be very reluctant to try again on a more commonly faked and more expensive piece. That said my watch runs well, in very good condition with some sharp edges left on the case given its over 20yrs old. A pre-moon from Peru would be out of the question unless I had very good reasons to believe the seller and the product are top shelf.
@@HarrisonElmore You are correct. According to eBay "...the seller must be located in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Italy, Germany, or South Korea." Also recommend reading is Joe G's Pro Comment above regarding which countries to avoid when purchasing expensive time pieces.
Bought a pair of ray ban wayfarers on eBay. When I got them I put them on and they felt off. Went back through the pictures I used from the sale to judge if they where fake and of course the ones he sent me the writing on the inside of the arm was different and this was out of the states. Opened a claim that day and had my money back the next day. I couldn’t believe it was that fast. Still have the fakes and my two year old loves to play with them.
That’s a much faster process! I thought I could solve it faster if I had it in hand. eBay tried to give the seller time to reship them I think which is why it took so long
I had a similar situation happen to me this year from a UK based seller in the east end. They were selling ' genuine 😂 ' vintage Omega gold watch. I purchased it, took the back off. Everything looked old and genuine. Movement was stamped, rear of case was also numbered. I then sent the watch to be serviced. OMG it was totally fake. I got 100% of my money back from eBay. Apparently the seller had a Mark on them? The watch was built in India. Looked totally authentic. Easy to be scammed. I'd never buy a watch from other than a proper watch supplier 👍
eBay does protect people, BUT the aggravation of opening a claim and dealing with it all is a pain and all too frequent. I’ve been going though Chrono24 for my purchases and haven’t had an issue yet.
I'm trying to buy a used SPEEDMASTER off ebay but the prices seem to be way lower than what I would have thought ie I was thinking 3+k easily but the majority of them are under 2k should this be a red flag?and I'm concerned about receiving a replica and not the real deal how do you know its the real watch and does ebay get you're $back if it's a fake ?any info would be great to anyone who reads this thnxs!
So I’m confused. They shipped it to your address but a different name or different name and address altogether? If it was the former, why not just prove your address? Not many people call a post office looking for a watch
I do e-commerce and have been doing it for almost a decade. 100% of the orders from Peru are scams. I didn't know any better in the beginning and got chargebacks. Now I just block all orders from that country.
I was going to say the same thing. Maybe it doesn't work internationally. I'm guessing it is due to import taxes Ebay has to pay to accept the watches in the first place.
So you don't actually know if they were indeed trying to scam you. It doesn't make sense as a scam since the tracking would show it's a different address than the one it was ordered to the paper trail would work against the would be scammer. It being in the same area is meaningless to proving if it was or wasn't delivered to a specific address.
