My most memorable experience with my Rolex Submariner (ref. 16613), that I purchased new in 1998 from a USA AD, was when my wife took it to a premier boutique in Switzerland (hint: the one now owned by Rolex) for servicing and she was told that my watch was a fake. The watch inspector at the counter really embarrassed my wife...made her feel like a criminal in front of a handful of other patrons. In any event, my wife stood her ground and requested that a more experienced staff member review the watch, along with the purchase papers and insurance documents. @@DP185-h3xThis is the correct logic. It is the watch itself that opens you up to crime, and very real danger. There are news stories every week it seems, where a person was either seriously injured, or even killed, while being robbed for what turned out to be a replica watch. The real safe bet is not to wear a conspicuous, easily taken $10,000+ bill on your wrist, real or not.
It's not just Rolex. I just bought a Bulova Lunar Pilot, the new blue panda. It came in an authentic box with papers. The only way I caught it was that the second hand was just slightly too long. I opened it and it had a lesser Miyota chronograph movement. Luckily, I was able to get my money back.
Sunburst can only be detected if comparing it to a real one - Silvery color on the brushing replica because of different steel - Floating m on the replica - In top tier replicas you cannot tell the different date, crown, or rehault. The replica Jenni has its a good one but definitely not the best.
@@KacperinOekraïne Naw, there are super-reps that use 904L stainless and that have better dials than the watch she showed. $600 is also way too high for this watch, it should be closer to $400. If a dodgy Chinese replica producer can get the cyclops right on the fake Hulk... you would have thought Seiko could have sorted it out on my Alpinist, given that they started making watches in 1881.
When the fake is that close you need an expert with an original watch next to the fake to pick the difference you know you're paying too much for the original.
Yes, but they are illegal and technically stealing from Rolex. If they are so good, they should just design their own original watch and sell it legally instead of riding off the coat tails of Rolex... Since they are illegal, you will get 0 customer support, no repairs/servicing, and get horrible accuracy and depth ratings.
@@anonypersona3189 Truth be told. They are stealing from Rolex fame, but not from their quality. In fact, Rolex is charging us way too much for a steel watch of such quality. Rolex is selling its fame, and the counterfeit is feeding on it. But they are not cheating on you as much on quality.

I bought a hulk in 2017 for 6k and sent it back after a week, as it didn't feel like it was worth the money. Superclones make one point very clear and right....gen rolexes ain't worth their prices. Does it make me want a replica? No. But facts are facts.

@@NinjaNovice I'm sure you heard of distance selling regulations. When you buy something online, you can send it back within a given timeframe. I took advantage of that while i lived in the UK. Got the pieces i wanted, had them for a few days or a week, and sent them back. Unworn of course, but having the watch for a week, you can fully assess and decide if it does it for you. I sold my first ever "proper" watch a 2225.80 seamaster chrono to buy a ceramic no date sub. Back then in 2015 the no date subs were going for 4500 GBP in the second hand market. Sold my seamaster chrono for 2k and got the sub for 4.5k. It was straight up obvious once i had the watch that it wasn't worth double the price. It wasn't higher quality, better built, more robust than the omega. Hulk was the same thing, didn't feel like it was worth it, didn't deliver much for the money for me. And i don't keep things i buy, unless 100 percent happy for them.
@NinjaNovice usually when you buy from Chrono24 and most other gray market dealers you have a window after you receive the watch to return it minus shipping. It's a really common practice.
So you bought a watch for $6K from the best selling Swiss Watch company in the world And could’ve sold it for $28-35K 4 years later . And even now still sell it for $18-19K ! What else did you buy since then that gave you a 300-500% ROI ?you basically gave away $25-30K 😂
Superclones have only exposed how overpriced genuine watches are these days. I’ll take a 98% accurate rep to the original for $500-$700 instead of $17k or more for a genuine. For that much I can fill up an entire case of the best clones of every brand watch/model I want.
@@ams914I can and I do. I have both, fake and gen. How can you possibly think you speak for anyone other than yourself? I have a cheap fake 116613LN on right now, I enjoy it no more or less than my Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT.
Be realistic, in your daily life, how many people would examine your watch with a magnifier? The only reason you might want to buy a genuine Rolex is it's good resale value. But again, if you use that money to buy gold bullion, it's an even better investment!
People buy a Rolex or really any high end product as a trophy to their achievements. So it's more about you cheating yourself with a fake rather than lying to others. 99% of people around you won't even know or care for what's on your wrist. Just a comment in regards to the Crown in the crystal. On the authentic crystal, the Crown is lasered within the Saphire. On the replica crystal, the Crown is lasered on Surface of the Saphire. Thats why the Crown is easier to spot on the replica.
Thank you for not demonizing replicas, and simply sticking to the facts. Now I do not condone the manufacture or sale of unlicensed replica's, and of course fraud is fraud. But I feel like those two things are conflated way to often: creating and selling a replica with full disclosure is not fraud: it is simply trademark violation, and I am aware of no replica factories that try to pass off their replicas as real. As for the people who wear them, I still hold that the practice is effectively identical to wearing a close homage (or clomage). I guarantee you the likes of Rolex or Omega have never lost a single dollar to the illegal replica market as, no one who bought a replica did so in lieu of buying a real one, and no one who is going to buy a real one, would ever buy a replica instead. So the end result of a clomage or a replica is effectively the same: you are wearing a watch designed to look like something else.
I wouldn’t assume, plenty of folks buy reps and own gens. When it’s not even noticeable why bother paying unless you’re trying to buy your own emotional gratification
@@LawryBoyer In your response, you switched from consumers who buy BOTH reps and genuine, to the consumer who buys the rep INSTEAD of the genuine. Which is it? In the case of the former, I do agree that genuine owners sometimes do buy the rep of their own watch, as a beater... but that does not contradict my point, as it did not affect the sale of the genuine. My point is that no one who was ever going to buy a genuine, chose to buy a rep instead. I maintain that is a category of consumer that does not exist, and anyone who suggests they bought a rep INSTEAD of a genuine that they were totally going to buy before they discovered the rep, is lying: they were never actually going to buy the genuine. This is because if you are the type of person who thinks buying a fake watch for $500 to save on buying the $5000 version is a good route, then you were never REALLY in the market to buy the $5000 genuine, no matter what you tell yourself. As for you final question, you sort of proved my point: Anyone who thinks it is silly to "bother" paying for the genuine if the fake is not noticeable, was never going to buy the genuine. But answer that question, it is because we realize that fake would not exist without all the time, effort, design, marketing, and, most importantly, financial success of the genuine, and we respect that. We understand that in order for the watch world to bring us world class watches so popular that they are faked, we need to actually support that business, else we run into another quartz crisis.
@@herewegoagain... first point about “never going to buy gen” seems like semantics or trying to rationalize people’s behaviors. Not everyone thinks like you or me. Some might buy a rep first to see if they would like gen and realize that they don’t need to spend the money if it scratches the itch. There are also plenty of folks on reddit that I know buy both rep and gen without discrimination. Making sweeping statements about human behavior just serves to presume you know how everyone thinks and I think that’s short sighted even if you might understand how many people think. Re second point I agree, reps piggyback off the success of the gen. But it’s more than just buying fake status for *some* rep buyers. If it was just status you’d only see reps or Rolex and AP but some appreciate but cannot afford design which admittedly most homage makers don’t nail quite so well as rep factories. If you love the look of a zenith for example you could buy the rep. Only a design and watch enthusiast would bother spending money on that I’d think. And innovation will continue to happen and if anything, replicas should push original innovation not stifle it. Any brand that doesn’t is lazy or too comfortable with their own success
@@LawryBoyer 1. This is not an issue of semantics. You and I will have to agree to disagree here, because I do not believe the consumer who "buys a rep first to see if they would like gen and realize that they don’t need to spend the money if it scratches the itch" was NEVER going to buy a gen. Period. I defy you to find me even one person that was legitimately on their way to buying a Rolex, and then bought a rep in lieu of the gen. I do not believe that person was ever going to truly buy the gen in the first place, because buying a gen is about much more than just the look, and if the look is ALL you care about, ya, you were never going to spend the extra anyway. 2. I never said all rep buyers are faking status. I said all rep buyers are buying a look designed by someone else, because they like that original design. I would actually guess most rep buyers (at least in America) are the latter, and generally do not flaunt their rep as real for status. As for your comments on reps pushing design, I'm sorry, but that is nonsense. Look, if you want a rep, cool. I really don't care. I do not condone illegal activity, but as I mentioned, I also think full disclosure reps are a victimless crime: no one is losing money there. But don't try and make up some nonsense about reps pushing the watch industry forward; that is just total unfounded conjecture, and, frankly, wishful thinking. Gen and rep manufacturers have a one way relationship: the latter depends on the former for designs and marketing to push their own copies... the former is simply annoyed by the latter.
@@herewegoagain... to the last point, perhaps it’s a stretch but I don’t think it’s wholly unconnected at least for consumers. The best example I think of is spring drive. Sure they didn’t come up with it as an anti-piracy technology, but there have been no successful reps that can replicate that movement technology, which simply adds to the appeal and price justification for many grand seiko enthusiasts
I think you’re right about the etched crown at 6 o’clock. The fakers DO seem to be making it just a little more pronounced. I handled a fake where the etched crown was pretty visible with the naked eye, and without effort. And the first thing the guy selling it said was “you can see the crown etched at 6”. It was a decent clone. Rehaut lettering didn’t perfectly line up to minute markers so that was a good indicator of it being fake. But if people can easily see the etched crown, an amateur could easily see and accept it as being authentic.
I have a sub bought this year at the Rolex dealer. It’s awesome but people keep discussing the fact that should be no play in the bezel at all and mine does seem to move back slightly after I rotate it. I have to admits to being worried!
I've owned several genuine Rolex subs (purchased new from AD) and they have had some play in the bezel. For some reason a lot of people are in some kind of illussion that Rolexes don't have play in their bezels. They do, but less than cheaper brands (and some replicas even though I've never bought one).
There is 120 clicks in a full rotation, IE 2 per second of spacing. Clearly if you move it less than half a second forward, you can move it back. That is just physics.
@@michaelnissen3556 you have layman's misconception about Rolex or any other genuine watch manufacturer; not every single watch they made are of perfect quality, some are just good enough within their quality tolerance limit
its a real watch it does everything a real watch does, its essentially showing that a rolex can also be built and sold for a fraction of what they sell for. Even if there are a few better finishings in a genuine. a rolex shouldnt be more than 1500 bucks and should be readily available not wait lists and having to have purchase history to get to buy one
For me it's about the way a watch makes me feel. I wouldn't get any pleasure from wearing a fake. I would much prefer a real Longines over a fake Rolex. I suppose they're only good if you are trying to "impress" other people.
I used to be in the same boat until I asked myself “does the price of the watch make me feel any better?”. I quickly realized the answer was no. I like the way watches make me feel because I like how they look and how they act as an extension of my personal expression and style. I get as much joy wearing a timex expedition, as I do a genuine omega aquaterra, as I do wearing a replica green patek phillipe nautilus 5711. I don’t like the fact that a watch I think is gorgeous should only be accessible to people who can spend $400k on a watch… I know not everyone will agree with this take, but I thought I would share my evolution in this watch game.
Why do you feel better about a real Rolex? If you like the Rolex design, isn’t that the part that makes you feel positive about the watch? It’s a bit confusing. If you like the design of the real Longines more than you like the design of the fake Rolex, why buy a real Rolex.?And if you like the design of the fake Rolex better, why buy a Longines? Here’s a hypothetical: what if a fake Longines has a better movement and better finishing than a real Longines, would you prefer the real watch even though it’s inferior? I don’t buy fake watches because I don’t want to support criminals, but a fake Rolex would not make me feel different. I would buy a replica that omitted the word Rolex, sure if it’s an exact replica otherwise, the design would be stolen, but since Rolex makes it so difficult to buy their watches, I would not feel guilty about that.
The biggest tell for most reps is the feel when winding the watch, and the sound of winding. For this reason, a lot of people who buy reps send them for service immediately after purchase. After a clean and an oiling, they feel & sound like the real thing, or so close to it that 99.9% of people would never know the difference. The newest 3135 clone movements are parts-compatible with gen movements. It's a little scary how good the rep makers have gotten.
@NinjaNovice who cares? He can buy 50 and still spend less than the pretentious asshats that wear it only for status symbol. He gets the status symbol without getting bent over.
Scary. One refinish and they’re identical. As for the font, that is even more negligible since it is done by hand and even an authentic Rolex can have a lighter font - depending upon when the ink was dipped. I have two 14060M’s with different font width yet the same year.
I have bought the watch for a year now. It is great. I paid a lot for it. It keeps good time and is waterproof. If you need the website I can check the records.
All these differences except the bezel action and crown movement resistance can be easily written off as production tolerances, and there are super clones out there that got these right. The shade of green on the bezel also varies through out different production years, I’ve seen hulks with different shades of green bezels both be successfully authenticated in RSC.
The fact that a replica shop can get 98% of the way there for one twentieth of the price, should be embarrassing for Rolex. I realize material cost and labor factor into it and the in-house movement is a beast but the ETA clones that go in these aren't any less reliable or accurate when calibrated).
I bought a watch from MaMaCoo lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
Can you share the link so I know where to avoid when buying a Rolex online? I want to ensure I'm NOT going to get this nearly perfect, imperceivably different clone for only $600. Thanks so much!
$600 is also far too much for this watch. A rep of this quality is at most a $400 watch. For a little over $500 the quality is even better, and uses 904L steel.
@@IanHobday I was gonna say this is a cheap clone. Some subs come from some factories in NWBIG conditions. She seemed a bit deflated the whole video knowing that an entry level clone was this good.
The laser engraved crown is always more legible on the replicas. The faint nature of the authentic is by design, as I am not aware of any replica that has managed to accurately copy such a faint engraving. Still a tell as, if you can easily see it, it's a fake.
Rolex has different batches when coming to dial printing and date wheel printing, and they do differ from batches to batches, so sometimes one to one comparison does not prove anything

It's become easier and easier for counterfeit watches to look nearly indistinguishable right out of the box. I'd like to see what one of these copies looks like (and how it runs) after several years of regular use.
Controversial take... I have zero problems with replicas so long as you actually own the original version also and don't attempt to resell the replica...
I own a pretty blue collar business and do enjoy working out in the back with my guys a few days a week. Those days, I wear my replica because I don't want to damage my authentic sub when cutting metal or welding or whatever. If I'm in my office doing the boring shit, I'll wear my real one.
can't buy fakes because they are illegal. Stealing Rolex brand. I do buy homage watches though. San Martin and Steeldive are nice. Steinhart is excellent Swiss option for 500-600 Euro.
I believe I had read most believe that Rolex specifically makes the laser engraved crown difficult to search because that is what makes it authentic - the different angles when engraving, etc. If it's difficult to find, it's probably real lol.
I own a AAA Hulk (£140) and a Clone (£300) Yachtmaster rose gold. They're amazing. No play/slop on the dial, keep time 10sec+/- per day and have a power reserve of almost 50hrs. The clasps on both are a little too sharp on the corners but apart from that they're lovely watches
I noticed that the paper on the date wheel of authentic Rolex submariners is textured and almost has a lumpy look to it. A bit like the texture of a snake egg.
Had a friend many years ago who bought a Rolex for list price from what he thought was a AD. Years later when he send it to Rolex for service they called him and informed him that it was a replica… Not fun.
There's one relatively easy way to tell, quite definitive too: just pop open the case back... You need the tooling sure, but also the fakes are EASILY spotted after that!
600 bucks to walk round with a phony on your wrist and when you can buy something perfectly nice for that money. And for what? Because who'd know? Well, you'd know for a start. And which should bother you...unless of course you are a phony yourself. Personally, I'd wear a $10 Casio before I'd wear a fake anything. Not in my lifetime would I judge a person for the value of what's on their wrist. But I would judge someone for wearing a snide watch.

Thank you for Jenni for making these videos for the majority of people who simply dont wish to be scammed on the grey market. Regarding the minority who seek out these replicas - I would absolutely never buy these clones A) because of longevity concerns but B) more important than the object itself is what that object represents - everything it took for me to put it on my wrist. I want the real war medal on my wrist after ive earned it.
There is only one reliable way to tell a fake from an authentic Rolex, the balance assembly. The free sprung balance with the microstella adjustmeent system that Rolex uses in its movements are extremely difficult and expensive to produce. If there is a regulator tab on the balance, it is a fake.

Yes and that is why 99% of Rolex owners buy a Rolex. That's the point
I don’t like the fact that a watch I think is gorgeous should only be accessible to people who can spend $400k on a watch…
I know not everyone will agree with this take, but I thought I would share my evolution in this watch game.
It's almost like saying buying a real Rolex isn't to impress others
The majority of Rolex buyers have them to impress.
A major difference is the sound, the fake movement is way louder when it's running. Great video!

Not in my lifetime would I judge a person for the value of what's on their wrist. But I would judge someone for wearing a snide watch.
Many real watches are inaccesible, out of stock, extremely overpriced etc, sometimes you just love a watch but cant find a way to get it
quit yapping
@@drewparry2574 Yep. There it is. Clearly exactly the sort of phony I'm talking about...
@@drewparry2574 Lol nah, Im cool with my *original* Tank and Santos , Im just not a tight ass that cries that people wear fake things 🤣
Exactly, and these "super clones" will die after 5 minutes in the pool 😂😂 I bought my genuine Tudor new for $2000 USD, and have a few decent micro brands in the $300-500 range which I love them, no need to be a poser with a fake.
I doubt this lady is so naive to not see she is promoting buying counterfeit goods. 😂
"To each their own. Who am I to judge?" Collecting watches should be about making friends and having fun, not about getting ripped off.
I have a friend who knows nothing about fake watches. He doesn't even know that there is such a thing. But he knows that Rolex has an excellent reputation. Bubbling with excitement he showed me the "Rolex" he bought for his wife's birthday. It was an obvious counterfeit. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he was swindled.
How can you not see the damage in this?
where can i buy one?
i have same watch from rolekanium
if you want best quality, rolekanium has best watches
i just buy from rolekanium
Amazing. So basically a replica looks like a worn genuine minus the dial. A quick dial swap will take care of that issue.
I bought a few “fakes” to see if the hype was real….theyre ridiculous. The VSF Submariner and BVF Cartier were the same thing as the genuine watches, legit the exact same. Shocking
Even the movement?
@@heiner71 no, this is where all fakes fall apart BIG TIME. Even if its a clone movement, you will never have the accuracy of a real Rolex and you cant get a fake rolex serviced so after a few years you can throw the fake one away.
@@classicmac8986you cant? Looool
Bullshit, there are a lot of watchesmiths that are Servicing Replicas. If they are Serviced they will Last as Long as the gen. And they are also that accurate when regulated.
@@gndiaspereira Of course you can. Many of them have eta 2824 which is sometimes even cosc grade and every watch smith can easily service an eta 2824. Most don´t care if the movement is inside a replica. Why would they? It´s easy money for them
Great video. I enjoyed it so much i subscribed. Great info to keep scammers at bay. Just a curiosity, what do you do with the clones after you buy them? Are they destroyed, resold? What happens to them.
The fake not so much bad
Thank you for Jenni for making these videos for the majority of people who simply dont wish to be scammed on the grey market. Regarding the minority who seek out these replicas - I would absolutely never buy these clones A) because of longevity concerns but B) more important than the object itself is what that object represents - everything it took for me to put it on my wrist. For example, you could go on ebay or to an antiques shop and buy a war medal. Wearing it would be meaningless. Passing it down to your children and grandchildren would be meaningless too. The only scenario in which i would somewhat respect someone buying a fake would be poor hustlers who are desperately trying to make it, and are betting that they can leverage returns on a high quality timepiece through including it on social media, signalling wealth whilst networking etc. I myself am a poor hustler however and i will never stoop to do this.
@@bullnose01 if you put a gen 3135 movement in you wont know,or even a gen balance bridge with blue parachrom hair spring it fits on this vsf movement like a bit of Lego
Rolex movements are evolutions of 120 year old Aegler designs. They are totally outdated, absurdly complex and massively overrated.
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. MaMaCoo watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
Is there a link for the replica?
yes. Reverse these letters to get the answer: tidderbus emitper
I’d love a replica of Jenni ❤
I have bought the watch for a year now. It is great. I paid a lot for it. It keeps good time and is waterproof.
If you need the website I can check the records.
The original is not a $17k watch. If we are to talk about best value for the buck, the $600 one may be pretty interesting. I wonder if the kind of people that actually pay Rolex $17k would know if they wear the original or a fake.
They would not know, i would bet money on that
Excellent video and very informative. Thanks ☺️
I wear my fake Seiko 5, while my authentic Seiko 5 stays in the vault! 😀😀😀
a seiko 5 is not that much bro i dont think you need to stress about it 😆

😂🤣😂
Do you know if we're already to the stage where the ingraved serial number is the same as the card ? (on a replica) and everything matches ? thanks a lot

I'm guessing clean

Prob VSF 🤷🏻♂️

looks good!! heard really great reviews about wristova and i think they're worth looking into!!
yes. I bought one. Great. Also waterproof. Very cool.
On next April's fools day, you should compare two authentic watches, invent some differences that are obviously invisible, and see how long it takes for your followers to notice they are fooled
@@gpaje your answer does not seem to relate to my comment. I was talking about a potential future video.
@@erichkitzmueller My bad, I thought you were being sarcastic, too use to that these days in the comment section. I stand corrected sir.
sneaky 😂😂
Bought a replica before many yrs ago.. worst thing the movement only lasted about year than it stopped
You could swap it for like a gen 2824 ... depending what movement was inside
MBK center
Movements notwithstanding, the watches made by Rolex arent technologically impressive at all so its no wonder the Chinese are catching up
Not really the technology, but it's the finishing that is where the money is. As good as a fakes from eye view, they won't pass a microscope.
Cant see the point though of buying a replica watch with a dodgy movement... can you even service these things when the time comes? Better off getting a £500-£1000 watch that is authentic.
@WH-hi5ew actually, they usually have movements that are very good copies that actually work pretty well, however someone who buys this is not looking for a good timepiece, they're looking to fake the look.
@@gpaje in the event that the movement needs a service and you've got a dodgy Chinese movement... can it be serviced?
@@WH-hi5ew why not, if most independent watch shops can service the cheapest Timex, why can't they service this movement? The only difference is a Rolex main dealer won't do it. That being said, how many times do you think it needs to be serviced, I have $100 Seiko's going on 15-years that have never been serviced and they are within a few seconds a day.
It would have been interesting to show us the movement as well. Nonetheless great video.
Two types of people: People who buy and wear fake, and people who do not. The people who buy Rolex's from an AD would never buy a fake. People who buy fake Rolex's will never buy a real one from an AD. Furthermore, people who spend hard earned money on a Rolex from an AD are buying the history, the engineering, creativity, and standard that Rolex has earned over time. People who buy fake Rolex's are desperately trying to prove to someone (themselves mostly) that they are someone who they are not.
I get a little laugh from the people who say, “People only buy Rolex’s to show off.” Or “for status”
So what’s the point of buying a fake one? To fake having status?
They could buy a very nice Hamilton or Tissot for the price of a fake Rolex, but nobody will notice that on their wrist, so they but a fake Rolex instead.
Where can I find one clone ?
Do not buy from Audemanium. Trusted dealers like Puretime, Chazingtime, Dealerclocks, trustytime, intime just to name a few for you. For the love of god, do NOT buy on the other sites in the comments section cos the comments are all robot generated
