I hear this one is burning up the box office - probably for two good reasons:
1) It appears to have been made by people who LOVED the Mario Bros. games and enjoyed adding every little wink and nod to them.
2) No woke crap. As long as everyone in this stays that way, moviegoers might have fun at the movies again.
I do agree that not all big screen animated films need a big name actor to do a character. There is a VERY talented pool of professional VAs who do videogames and animated TV shows and know how to bring these characters to life. After all, VA is different from traditional face acting. Seth Rogan I could do without - for many reasons!
I'm curious if you have seen the 1993 version. I saw that one on first release - I didn't hate it like critics did. I found it to be a guilty pleasure over the years and treat it like an early 90s sci-fi film rather than a Mario Bros. game movie. I think it has its own merits separate from the games.
It's a simple formula and ur right, hire voice actors, save the $ you'd spend on big actors and make more quality stuff. And yes, I saw it when it came out. Its definitely a cult classic..not good, but you like it anyway. Which are some of my favorite movies 😂
