Like you I had no idea who Henry was until I saw the drawings but then when she mentioned Sam I was like “ok I’m into this more now”. Also I wasn’t sure if the ground thing was gonna be something new or not, I was kinda like “I wonder what that’s about”. Can’t wait for Friday as the shit will in fact hit the fan 😁
Not me rewinding the scene a dozen times where Ellie tells Joel my favorite pun when they get ready to sleep. Pedro Pascals chuckle was so pure, my heart couldn't handle it 🥺 It's always an absolute pleasure to listen to your reviews, Dan. I'm already hyped and looking forward to next week! EDIT: I immediately had to think of Captain Spirit as well when I saw Sam! 🤯
Another great analysis, Dan. I really enjoyed this episode…tough to follow up last week’s amazing story, but I really loved how we went from episode 3’s slower pace to the tension ratcheting right up in this one. This for me was the most “game-like” episode, despite the move from Pittsburg to Kansas City. Everything was there, from the joke book, to the scene in the truck, the ambush, the shootout after the crash, and even the mechanics of Ellie squeezing into areas Joel can’t in order to further the story. But what I especially appreciate is the effort Mazin/Druckman have put into humanizing the “villains”. Aside from the heart wrenching scene where Brian begs for his life, Melanie Lynsky’s Kathleen is a really interesting character. Rather than making the leader a monster of a person (i.e. The Walking Dead), this is a regular person who’s clearly suffered a lot, and has risen ti the role of leader because she was part time f the community…and then like it always seems to happen in human history, she became the tyrant she replaced. This is brilliant television and I can’t wait for episode 5! And yep…that’s a bloater underground (love your theory BTW)
Yes, I loved the pace shift as well, in addition to all of the game features that were framed for us, while still presenting so much that was fresh and new.
Maybe the Bloaters in the show universe are formed from the cordyceps that grows underground. Like they go into a form of hibernation, feeding off of the fungus network for years, and then emerge when disturbed. Another note, I wonder how they'll develope the Sam/ Ellie bond unless Ellie somehow knows sign language
Neil Druckman once said in a interview Ellie was originally conceived as a deaf mute side character in Uncharted 2 but was scrapped from the final product. It's gonna be interesting seeing this version of Sam.
How are you doing Dan! Just wanna say that out of all the RUclips videos that focus on HBO's The Last of Us, I look forward to your response the most. Thank you for the video.
Whenever, bryon, I think his name was, started screaming and begging I got so giddy. One of my favorite aspects about the second game is how real the callouts to their faction members sound. (Btw you did a great video on that a while back) so to see them basically say"oh yall that those were gut wrenching, hold my beer." Literally made me jump for joy. I knew this series was going to be good, but I just keep falling deeper and deeper in love. As of now, tlou is one of the only series to get better with time. I was so scared this could become like fallout, just a grab to get more people in while disregarding the already established lore. But man, every episode I feel like I'm experiencing the game for the first time again.
My prediction is that the bloater encountered in the next episode will be the season 1 equivalent of the Rat King. Bloaters will probably be even more rare in the show than in the games.
@@WolfofThorns Bloaters will be so rare that when a bloater is finally brought down it will be a big deal. It's possible they could have Joel and Ellie take one down before the end of this season, but my money is on next season, presumably during one of the flashbacks. I honestly doubt that the bloaters are going to make any more appearances this season. I think episode 5's action sequence is going to be largest set piece of this season.
I honestly don't know what I look forward for the most every week, a new episode of TLOU or a new review in this channel haha
I really appreciate that a lot, Raphael!
Imo this was my least favorite epsiode
Found myself grinning like an idiot watching Ellie and Joel slowly form that bond I've come to love.
Agreed. It's a delight to watch.
Loved this episode, to me this was the most important episode so far, we’re starting to see Ellie & Joel’s bond form.
Definitely great to see them bonding
I cannot express my excitement for these reviews! A Wolf of Thorns video is always appreciated :)
Thank you so much, Sibora!

Also loved Ellie’s banter with Joel, the nighttime laughing felt totally genuine.
As you say, the 💩 + 💨 = 😱 on Friday

Hey, I’ve loved your channel for quite a while now and especially your passion for the series m! Thanks for your videos :)
I appreciate you sharing the love, and thank *you* for watching!
Kathleen feels almost like a combination of Isaac and the seraphite prophet

Love it! 😃👌
FYI this season will have 9 episodes

Exciting speculation, Stephen. Can't wait to find out tonight!

There's no way that's not a bloater underneath. What else could it be.
best episode so far
