I love how Robert Smith was like "No we're The Cure of the 80's". That's what makes The Cure so good, they have a good imagination and don't need to be compared to anyone, they're their own unique band.
My favourite, and in my opinion, as a cure fan of 30 years, the best line up. I loved them as a 3 piece, such a tight sound. The early 80s were the best
Clearly, the 80's, especially 1980-1982 was the best years for me with the Cure. Seventeen seconds, Faith and Pornography, these 3 albums are so great. And later, more later, Disintegration was in the same way, it's just my own opinion. Thanks so much for this video, I love it.
I used to have this but it was bad quality on VHS. Thanks so much for sharing this gem. Been a Cure fan since the mid 80s and love their music but (fan girl moment so please bear with me!) young Robert was gorgeous. And his voice… Swooooon.
I've been a fan of The Cure for well over 30 years and this is a rare find. I've seen this footage before but not in this high quality. Big thanks to the uploader. ❤
A true 💎 a “ raw” cure but very well coordinated and lol on drums 🪘 was excellent, they as a trio were absolutely brilliant ! It’s those types of performance 🎭 that would be a testament of what a great band was evolving at the time , and of what was still to come . 😎
Never heard them sound so raw...The Cure always sounded polished to me, I 've seen them live in Ljubljana at the end of the 80ies, they sounded like a big stadium band.
To be fair, they were a big stadium band by the end of the 80's... Their sound also massively evolved after the first 2 albums. They were punk/post punk at the start, very raw and energitic compared to the goth sound they became famous for.
Very good live mix. It's rare to get such a good mix even with mega bucks bands like Metallica. Every instrument and vocals are very clear and nothing over powers.
I think in the early days The Cure were more readily accepted by the French and the Dutch more than even their home turf in the UK. In fact even places as far as Australia and New Zealand got their music in ways that clearly were more receptive than their native land.
Exactly what I was thinking!? I always knew he could play but I never knew he had this type of capability, especially having singing responsibilities too. His rhythm/ picking hand stuff is incredible here.
This restored footage is amazing! I've only ever seen blurry, scratchy bits and pieces of this interview and performance. This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing! ❤🎶
I’ve been to many concerts . Some in the back . Some one the front row (a few times) some in box some in the grass. Always amazing through out the years. The Cure has been my obsession since 1986 when I was 11 went into a store and listened to pornography , Head on the Door Seventeen Seconds I was hooked. Going to a concert this summer again in June I can’t wait ! 3 hours plus of pure ecstasy
May 31 @ Moda was beyond my wildest dreams!! Almost no empty seats :) Returning by light rail north, the kinetic energy on those packed cars was palpable!!! If you search for their show @ Hollywood Bowl, a kind soul filmed the entire show from the front rows. I felt being in the presence of Robert Smith was the way an audience for Amadeus Mozart or Bizet felt in their time
Thank you very much for share the show, and with timestamps of the songs, the sound is a little low. Griding Halt is pure New Wave 80's. Excuse my broken english. 🖤💙🖤😎

Am I the only one who laughed so hard at Robert going, "Here's two songs about trains!" 😂
I pooped myself
It is actually kinda funny
Yep funny as😅
😅
Love this raw stripped back vibe from the early days, brilliant!
Soooo goooooddd

Going to see them this Friday in Vancouver......this was recorded in 1980....nearly 43 years later, time will have stood still...O M G.
Saw them in Vancouver too. Amazing, a fan for 40 years
Thank you for uploading this iconic masterpiece! Robert Smith The Cure looking like a baby!

A great, tight, fresh band, right before they took the world by storm! They trully influenced my life...
Mine too!
Same with me absolutely
Definitely me too!
Fave album at 16 (in the 90s) 😻
Perfect Post Punk. Decades of song writing genius to come.
Soooo true

Great upload. Early live Cure performances of this quality are as rare as hen's teeth. A big thank you, Riki.
this kicks butt. Great three piece. I esoecially like the bass playing
Never heard them sound so raw...The Cure always sounded polished to me, I 've seen them live in Ljubljana at the end of the 80ies, they sounded like a big stadium band.
This is True the cure, Best the cure. Definitely its a peak, other than cure pop songs like Lovesong or Wild mood swings album

So nice seeing this footage with a new coat of paint great remaster. The cure sounded great as a 3 piece too
This was one power fucking trio. I'm speechless.
what a voice!

Thank you! This is excellent. For those who say they're "goth" -- obviously not familiar with their early work.
their early work was definitely goth, seventeen seconds, faith and pornography.
Over the years some tunes sounds voices just grab a hold you my friend are such a wonderful person i cannot let Go
Thank you so much for uploading!! Love 'em over decades now!!❤
Sooooo gooooodddd
Music that is still relevant til this day!
Simon Gallup. 👑
This is a belter. Raw, timeless magic. Thank you for making my day. Much love. ❤❤
They were a technical tight outfit. Love The Cure
Drummer is amazing

Saw them in NYC, Hurrahs 1980, unforgettable.
So tight bringing 80s
Amazing!!!! I ADORE Simon 😍🥰😍
All music, no image…❤
Wow! Thank you for this.
Phenomenal what they transitioned to shortly after this.

The Cure were originally a three piece band, with Robert singing and onlead guitar.
The best lineup !?
Great comments.
ulster hall 79...supporting the banshees ...some night
saw them in 1980
Kinda sounds like Bloc Party when they burst onto the scene. Rad early raw stuff. Of course Robert has always had that epic voice.
Bloc Party sounds like the cure...in their early days

It's "Another Journey By Train" at 8:22
Con justa razón the cure fue es y será el gran rey del punk
Missed a track - They segue into Another Journey by Train after Jumping Someone Else's Train
Lol looks so good here
And Lol was a solid drummer.
Ace!!
Simon Gallup il migliore bass player dei Cure
good to see 43 years ago the dutch were even ruder than they are now
❤
3 new albums. Love him - he’s such a troll
Lol is amazing tho, early cure is so good😊
Ever green
Robert Smith was … barely tolerating … the interviewer’s questions 😅
well he was asking stupid questions, only natural for robert to go ham on it :D

Where did you find this gem? Beautiful.
😮😮😮😮
Could Shine On You Crazy Diamond's intro have served as an inspiration for A Forest's intro?
Is dit ergens op NPOstart terug te kijken?
Pink Floyd of the 80’s?
..seriously nobody ever even thought that
i think every song had the same bpm!
Really nice to see them play faster and more precisely. But the communication to the fans haven't change "thank you, goodbye", so cold....
He’s obviously a very shy person. His fans know, respect & understand that about him
WTF are those lyrics to A forest?
