- Fabulous relatively early live footage of The Cure. Great quality, especially for the vintage. Many thanks to whomever pulled this together as well as to the gentleman that fixed the notorious audio dropouts on other copies of this.

thank you! one of the best concerts!!!
@@scanner1978 Your welcome and I agree, it is raw and and pure energy!!
Thanks for adding the song markers!
@@aquakarn your welcome and thank YOU for posting in the first place!
The very Cure, thank you for posting it!
I was only 4 years old, but that's no excuse. My parents should have taken me to this show.
I was only -20 back then :)
You didn't cry loud enough.
Unless your parents lived in one of the big Northeastern cities at the time (NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC) you would have never had the chance anyway. Those were the only American dates they played that year.
Child abuse.
Yes. You should get counseling. Then hope they go on tour. Sadly no lol on drums or is that Andy ?. You have good taste.
I didn't exist when this came out, but that's no excuse for missing this concert. My bad, guys.
Ich liebe The Cure seit meinem 13 Lebensjahr.
Grinding Halt....appreciated their early stuff for years...but going through the COVID shutdown made that song real to me for sure!
one of the best versions of Accuracy and Secrets... extraordinary concert!
Yes, friend. I think so.
I agree.
This so unbelievably cool, the video effects were even more advanced than what came out in the first year of MTV.
Robert Turns 21 that night, what a wonderful way to celebrate your own birthday !
Baby Robert was adorable
Holy cow I was at that show and had no idea this existed! LOUD FAST RULES!
Lucky you man for being there.
I have seen the Cure many times, but I was too young to see them during the Seventeen Seconds tour. What a time to catch them live.
Punk was a genre that The Cure really excelled at, but I'm glad they didn't stay in this genre because it becomes very monotonous, exhausting and boring. As I listen to "A Subway Song", "Accuracy", "A Forest" [for the 10th or 100th time] and "In your House" they sound like they were already moving in another direction away from Punk to something else. It was interesting listening to this band constantly re-invent themselves over the decades. Just as The Beatles, The Doors and David Bowie did. Cheers from NYC!!!
I wish they kept playing at this speed!
Who'd have thought they sell out stadiums. wasn't even aware until 1982, but live n the US. was wrapped up n our version of the punk scene, as it was. A friend, then girlfriend I fkd that one up, introduced me o NYC art rock, and a new world of imports in a 5 story Tower record store, One band 'm glad I caught the Halloween show at the 9:30 club in DC, and front row MSG Kiss me kiss me kiss me tour I love them. If you haven't heard Siouxsie & the Banshees, you can see the whole show at Prince Royal Albert Hall in you tube, Robert Smith played flawless guitar for the late John McGeough, not an easy thing to do, John is well respected by his peers,
Tolhurst always lifts his hi-hat stick when he hits the snare drum. Still. It fits perfectly in its simplicity and is just basically great. Sometimes. Less is more.
2 classic albums to begin with and then who would think? Most important vital band of the last 45 years
I just love everything from The CURE! Everything!
really excellent to see and hear them live when they were young
A guy from the MIT took this footage with several cameras, one for each colour and one B&W. Take from the book of Tolhurst.
Always MIT
Brilliant! but I´d really like to watch the raw material without so many arty-farty close ups and dissolves. :D
@@miguimau Brilliant as it is (but I know what you mean)
Mix the colors....
Sweet. Didn't know that!
Best Band in the World 👍🔨🔥😃♥️♥️♥️
Top.After 41 years still love this band like it was at that time.
Love this, hearing a band maturing into a great one
Wow what a truly brilliant live set - great sound too, and Matthieu's keyboards really add an extra dimension to the previously skeletal sound of the Three Imaginary Boys material. Just one killer tune after another - no gaps, and the genius segue of 'Jumping Another Journey By Someone Else's Train' is just impeccable. This should have been released as an official live album for the period..... it's fantastic!
Yes. I agree. Accuracy is on fire as Cairo.
" In Your house is great!!! ", 10:15 too.
They were on fire that night. I love how clean. No effects on. drums. minimal is hest. Matt on keys. Robert with short hair. All so wonderful. The drums would have benefitted from a little reverb. The keyboard brings a lot as lol can only play one-fingered keys. A great catch of one of the most influential and unique bands of the 20th. Robert on the harmonica on the subway song is classic. I remember when hearing the scream at the end with headphones 🎧 on. Scared the s...t out of me. Plus Robert is just on fire. Simon too. Mathieu's keys are great too.
Lovely. Read about this performance in Lol's Bio, "cured".
Same here. I couldn't put it down and finished it in 3 days!
taylor andrews i just got the book last night here in mexico city lol was doing a signing and also read about this show!!
Same here!
Wow - thanks for the tip. I'll check it out!
The Cure is beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍
Such an important historical document of one of the most influential and important bands of my youth. This was amazing! I didn't strictly watch every second of the video, but I didn't see Mathieu's face a single time. That would have been cool because there is so little footage existing of his time in the band. But, MAN! What a great find!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
i agree great find love it thanks for posting
One of the most influential bands of the 20 to the 21st. They've influenced so many good sbd shitty bands.
I love his guitar clan. They rage through a Grinding halt and more. Classic footage.
La cura underground de los 80's
⚡🛹🚀🦴🎸🩸🍭🧉
Great ! Love The CURE and Robert Smith ! Friendly from France 🎼🎶🎤🎸🎸🖤
KISSES FROM URUGUAY
Amazing. Wish I could have been old enough to have been there.
Even if you were old enough, you probably wouldn't have known about the gig. Basically nobody knew this band in the USA at the time.
@@chocomanger6873 This gig took place right around the same time "Boys Don't Cry" was a minor hit on American college radio stations, so more people here knew about them than you'd think. Sure, they weren't the rock giants they became about 5 years later that could sell out arenas, but they were fairly well known in underground music scenes and to college kids. I'll never understand why it took them so long to finally do a full U.S. tour (for "The Top" in the fall of 1984).
Now youd be dead of covid19
Nessa época já faziam um show completo imagina 40 anos depois
One of their best!
29:32 A Forest
One of my favorite songs
Any one know why the video doesn't include the entire set? This show started with Seventeen Seconds, had Three Imaginary Boys after Play for Today and is missing M, At Night, Plastic Passion, and an encore version of Seventeen Seconds with changed lyrics for Simon's 21st birthday.
It would be great if someone lined up the video with the complete set, and just had still photos for the missing video.
The Cure son maravillosos❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Blast from the past! Great upload. Many many thanks
When i was born, such great music existed😊
I think this is one of their best performances!
i agree
Best "Fire in Cairo" version EVER!
The keyboards make it sound like a cheesy quiz show track. I much prefer the origional 3 instrument sound, for me the keyboards spoil the songs.
PURE GOLD
Mission of Burma opened for them in this gig.. Robert really liked them.. Then over a decade later Dinosaur Jr. opened for them.
thank you so much for this ....love it
Crazy tight! Remember this is playing live. Spot on
Best drumming I've seen and heard from Lol, close to Stephen Morris and how they just grind out single hits.
Amazing ! Thank you so much for uploading !
Gracias, gracias ,gracias !!!!! por compartir esta joya !
Maravilloso!
Curti muito o vídeo...obrigado por compartilhar.
Fantástico muto bom obrigado. 😍✌⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great video!
Miss you Lol
Never saw this before. Glad I stumbled upon it.
I like it. Music is so good
Gracias 🖤...
Perfect!!!!
Que bárbaro ese conciértazo
OMG, I remember this show. I knew it was filmed, but I never knew how to see it.
Great concert and love the arty finish for the video
I think this was their very first American gig. Back when Robert was a dead-ringer for Ben Affleck. Pretty appropriate that it's Boston.
Brewzerr One of the very first. My understating is that this was the last night of their first US tour. A short tour of the East Coast.
@@aquakarn Upon further research, I see that is correct. They played a six date short tour of the Northeastern U.S. in the spring of 1980, beginning in Cherry Hill, NJ (a suburb of Philadelphia) and finishing at this date in Boston. It took them several years before they finally did a full U.S. tour, in the fall of 1984 for "The Top", and by then they were a completely different band than what they were at this time. Before that late '84 tour, the only dates they played in America were in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Pretty strange considering they had developed quite a large following in the U.S. long before "The Top".
I think they already played CBGB’s in the late 70’s.. But my memory is not good.
Their first concert in the USA was at the legendary Hurrah, NY, place where New Order, Gang of Four and several British bands played too
@@rickg8015 They never played CBGB
El principio , siempre es lo mejor

What a freaking TREAT you peeps had in Boston,MA!!! WOW!!! I am so jealous!! :/
Me too. I was in San Diego at the time.
Robert was so handsome then.
This new Twin Peaks is looking pretty good.
@David Flores a pretentious indie band
What kind of wankery are you on about, beardie?
@David Flores - if you are seriously asking this question, David Bowie was in one of David Lynch's Twin Peaks creations: "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me". Since it looks like you are a Bowie fan, that might interest you.
הופעה מעולה,כיף כיף כיף.
רוברט סמית' נראה כל כך שונה בשנים הראשונות של הלהקה.
Definitivamente me quedo con este thecure
Eran chicos 🖤
MUY BUENOS
Que jóvenes!!
Thank you for adding this! I saw the in Pasadena CA in 1980, this is great footage!
They didn't play in Pasadena in 1980. First time was at Perkins Palace in July of 1981. I was stuck down in La Jolla at a beach house with my ex and my in-laws, unable to go to the Perkins or Whisky A-Go-Go shows.
You mean 1981... but I see someone else has already cleared that up. I'll never understand why they played so few American dates during this time. They had a pretty big following in underground music scenes and through college radio at this time. I had to wait until fall of 1984 before they finally played my hometown, and by then they were a totally different band. It really kind of pissed me off at the time.
ja from a 40 years later perspective this "video" looks very artsy because the very artsy students of today wanna have their videos made this way for today...but it wasnt meant that way - but it is now...
Think Tim Pope stole this guys camera techniques for the In-between days video
I was thinking it looked very Pope-esque
What a amazing band
thx!
Thanks for sharing , I saw them at Hurrahs in Nyc in 1980 , time flies!
Footage is posted.
Seen it, thanks
Lol tiens son job a merveille !!!!!
Los inicios de una gran banda.
Secrets, the best song of the set. ❤
The way Robert starts playing the guitar on that last song :0
Why?
9:00 In your House 😎

I was 8, didn't discover them till 87
Baby Cure - Amazing!
Amazing musicians . Have some idea of how well you need to know your instrument and track and the dexterity needed to play like that.(Not saying I can BTW- Just know how hard it is) These guys are just outstanding, Seen them 3x Doubt I even appreciated how lucky I was .
