3m general purpose spray adhesive "45" is just fine. Titebond 3 glue is what I use. 3 has a longer open time than 2 but they are both good. Carpenter glue is gonna be stronger than the wood you glue it to no matter the brand. I've tested several. Over time titebond is better with not getting thick, my gorilla carpenter's I got in a pinch at 3am from Walmart and only used once in 3 years needed water added for it to even come out. I bought the gallon of tb 3 and it is still good almost 7 years later, even 1/3 full.
"Stumpy Nubs" on youtube had a good video describing the use for each. Titebond 1 is cheapest (just over half the cost of 3) and is not water resistant, meaning you can use steam/water to release the bond in the future (for cleanup or future repairs, great for chairs that people will be rough on). Titebond 2 is water resistant, 3 is even more water resistant, and has a longer working time. All of them are going to easily exceed the strength of most wood
