I had to do a weird set up with a factory altima. 2.4Kw rms brutus, running an inverted 15' xmaxx monster, rated 4Kw rms. The box was ported and only had 1.5 cubic feet, thats why the speaker was inverted. The speaker was in the trunk with the magnet facing the taillights, and the smaller portion of the seats was pulled down for airway. I imagine I was only running around 1.2-1.5Kw rms, but the peaks would dampen all of the lights, and at the end of the cars life, it would completely stall the engine mid drive. It made towels bounce around, and I still have the set up, just looking for the right vehicle
I love sealed boxes, SQ ! I've owned/built more sealed boxes than ported. I also prefer 10,8 and 6.5's woofers because I only listen to metal music. In the 90's in highschool I had my share of 12's and 15's from 250 watts to 3000+ watts and were crazy loud , but that got old within 2 years time
Although this is a great general assessment for Boxes, I think it’s absolutely imperative you pick the Right sub with the Correct FS, Xmaxx, Qts, and Vas for the enclosure and listening style of the customer. I know it’s a lot more in depth, but it literally is the life and death of that sub, and also the experience. I’ve heard expensive Subs in crappy boxes sound like crap, while also hearing budget subs breaking panels in the Correct enclosure. Once you start crunching numbers…… No one with the same sub will be as loud if you know what you’re doing with specs. Just my 2 cents 🤷🏻♂️
Good description but it’s not that simple, it rlly does matter what amp, how many subs and how much air space your working with. Sometimes that sealed will have a bigger thump sometimes it won’t sound as clear
To actually answer your question I choose clean! Cuz im old now i guess (30y/o). Can any of you speaker people tell me why my sub in my sealed truck sounds the best facing sideways? I.e. speaker facing the passenger side, not front or back?
Reason for this is because the way your particular setup fires from the cabin and the position you normally sit in which is the driver side has the best sound to your ears.
Ported can be loud and clean when done right.
Only with a dsp that’s why sealed majority hits better cause it’s just easy to setup

Port all day, helps your subs breathe and you can actually hear your subs for a far distance unlike sealed 🤦🏾♂️ which what I have rn
You should make a video on 4th order boxes
Will do! Keep an eye out for it!🔊

I have an RE XXX. SQL
Sealed with more subs and lots of clean power for the win! I'd rather dig deep and hit the low frequencies with authority!!!
i go by... rap ported or bampas sealed country rock or metalcore
The issue many have is that you might play all the above

Sealed gets pressure my guy 😒.. in a lot of cases I've felt more pressure in sealed than ported "done right" as they say
