When i was doing fiberglass we used johnsons paste wax (yellow can)... you can find it at walmart with the furniture polish... if you apply it right you can release from the mold with nothing more than an air sprayer and it pops out like an ice cube from a tray
Thumbs up for the effort! Came out really nice. As a professional I would suggest putting your sub under rear windshield, in a sedan like yours it gives the best sound, in a sealed box not free air of course. And protruding sub in trunk is an always matter of time of when this speaker will be damaged by a bag or something else carelessly thrown in a trunk, put a grill asap. Next time try to angle the sub in a trunk such way, that it don’t gets easily in a way of luggage and try making it not retract from the box it is in. An some inner cage would benefit on sound also, on higher volumes especially. Great work
Don't worry that glass didn't last long at all. That sub jumped right the fuck out lol. If I can see Fucking daylight through it, its not enough at all. I could see his damn lawn through it. Even with the filler on
At first I was like but what about the electrics and stuff but then I was like Wow! Great Job there and you didn't have to sand it and paint it for 10 hours. Now this box I can make. Thx man 👍
There is always going to be those guys that critique your work. I say it looks great, and as long as youve pounded that sub and your not hearing any rattling or unwanted noice from the speaker box, then you accomplished what you wanted and I'm sure even if it was under the airspace required, still sounds better than stock, and you have your entire trunk for storage still. Congrats I think it looks great, will that box fit a 9th gen accord?
@@BurningDownUrHouse Poly Fill sucks, go with pink fiberglass, yeh it isn't nice but it's worth it ALL DAY. There are also limitations to what you can achieve by stuffing a box before it dies completely.
looks awesome!! do you have a material list or a brief step by step? I upgraded car but downgraded boot space so willing to DIY similar to yours. thanks
this is a realy nice build. it looks great and the trunk is still functional. however, I've heard people say that fibreglass is not good to make sub enclosures with because it flexes too much and screws up the sound of the woofer. but is this true? and if so, is there anything you can do to strengthen it? could you just make a wooden frame on the inside(if you reduce that from the airspace) or would that affect the sound as well?
I know this is old..but in case anyone else wondering, can always calculate the volume of odd shapes/places like this using packin peanut or somethin similar. fill the area in question, then make something like the graduated cylinder from science class but w/scrap cardboard boxes, make it real easy on yourself and do 1'*1'*X' where X= anything more than the volume could possibly be. just make sure not to pack the peanuts(or whatever media you use to calculate)denser in the space or measuring box so it's as similar space between, givin as accurate a measurement as possible. obviously this won't be exact but shapes like that part of the trunk you'd have to be a geometry wizard to figure out how to calculate. that or make the shape like they did, then see how much water it displaced in a large tote, but that would be much more time consuming and expensive for pretty similar results.
so many know it alls here. I've been into car stereos so long that I'm no longer into them. all these doofs saying where's the port. why's it sealed? do your homework people. it's not all about chattering your fillings loose with beats. buddy probly just wanted a nice blend of everything. ever heard of an audiophile system? and a sealed enclosure will always sound tighter and better.
How many layers of Fiberglass did you put on? Seems way to thin IMO. I got a fireglass setup for a 12TW3 & we have like 3-4 layers of fiberglass to make sure its good and strong.
question is, by the way excellent job, how did it sound?? Reason I ask cause I had two 12" boxes and positioned them like that in video and sound inside cab was horrible. It was almost like no subwoofer was added, only made car rattle but no actual bass tones in cab. Your thoughts???
very nice and if u can tell pls which type of fiber did u use back than i would like to know... i have no clue on fibers types and which type is best for woofers enclosures and speakers thank u
Nice way to do the enclosure, hope you made that shit ALOT thicker with a friggin W7 in that box. Since it is butted into the car the cars body probably helps with box flex but still that shit was thin, especially for a high output sub like the W7
nice but how do u determine what cubic ft u need, or did u just not even bother with that, also how does it sound, u did all that work and we don't get to hear it
you shoulda burped the box for us.. How is the sound quality? what frequency did the box tune into? i want to do this exact style build to my '02Protege5..I want to tip and turn the subs 45degrees up and in..so they sit much like yours and fire up into the center (literally) of the passenger cabin. i want to build boxes on both sides that exactly mirror each other. great vid. thanks for showimg your work!
I know I'm a few years later with this but... It's just Fiber Glass Matting with Resin + Hardener Then Bondo and rubbed down... Just thought I'd reply even though you probably made this and sold the car by now... 🙈😆🤣🤣
It might have been better to have built it, figured out the volume , and then got your woofer. Filling it with water, then measure what your have in litres.
Considering it was just regular ole painters tape I am not sure the people that made this should have attempted this - Also a JLW7? That box will blow apart if it is ever fully powered. I don't know what kind of body filler they used but definitely should have had a lot more glass. Whatever works for them though... I would have gone about it a different way personally.
You missed the point(this IS the kind of tape you use, it's just people who don't know what painters tape is probably need not attempt a project like this)....and you also underestimate how strong fiberglass is...I've just one coat of fiberglass on my prototype and you couldn't PUNCH a hole in it. That would certainly make just ONE coat of fiberglass stronger then that of the speaker surround(Which would have to be stronger to blow apart the box.) As far as acoustics is concerned, well that is not what you were arguing for...the fact that the box is form fitted to the trunk surrounding(makes it much more durable), not to mention the fact that this is a sub in a TRUNK...all things considered that was more than enough fiberglass...
Wow, dude that turned out soooooo good, and then you came out with the W7, I salute you brother.
Now that's how you maximize your trunk space! Sweet set up man, that's exactly what I am going to do to my car
Did you do it like that
@@itznoah231 😂 I double he did it.
Edit; doubt
@@janjohnny4945 😂😂😂
Nice clean install
thank you

Hi. What type of tape have you used? This is normal masking tape or special for laminating
Robert Cousins So the mold release wax is essentially car polish? are there spray type options? thanks

SO NICE! Great work brother!
Looks great. I'd say it needed more fiberglass build up before finishing.
+Mike Swankhouse
I agree with you.
Mike Swankhouse x
It's much too thin. Minimum of 4 coats 1.5oz chop cloth
Don't worry that glass didn't last long at all. That sub jumped right the fuck out lol. If I can see Fucking daylight through it, its not enough at all. I could see his damn lawn through it. Even with the filler on
Nice
I always like the look of these, but with such thin walls I would imagine a lot of SQ is left on the table.
Love the sign in the background
Great job. I'm inspired. Thanks for video.
love the blue tape :p
At first I was like but what about the electrics and stuff but then I was like Wow! Great Job there and you didn't have to sand it and paint it for 10 hours. Now this box I can make. Thx man 👍
Very nice and clean. Though I would've skipped the sanding, since you are covering it with carpet anyway. But overall, good job.
Clean looking box! music needs changing though :X

If its under recommend air space he can just do poly fill
@@BurningDownUrHouse Poly Fill sucks, go with pink fiberglass, yeh it isn't nice but it's worth it ALL DAY. There are also limitations to what you can achieve by stuffing a box before it dies completely.
I feel like it would tip over when you turn, but looks sweet!
It's nice and clean. Turned out to be really good. But it's missing a reflex pipe.
+Jsp P5 Taunus doubt the volume is even calculated for this sealed box, calculating the correct volumes and port tune is very important.

Yes, this is terrible for sound quality and it also rattle your decklid by facing the sub INTO the trunk.
@@dalienware668 my sub is facing forward and the trunk lid also rattles.. Just add some aerobutyl and no more rattles :-)
how did you keep it from moving around when driving
Ficou show!!!!! Essa caixa,, e som?! ficou armonico??!!
Tape! You genius!!! Much appreciated, tried other ways, that's brilliant!
nice work!!
So how do u calculate the volume? And if u were to do a ported box like this, how would u tune it? Thank you!
Looks great. How much resin did you end up using?
considering the small amount of air space to you get much bass from this set up
who the hell downvotes this, awesome job!
What size was the woofer? Also how do you figure out the cubic feet? I have the same car I want to run a RF 10" p3 500w RMS.

Looks great! How is it then attached to the vehicle or is it just sat in place?
Good work but the walls are very thin and at what power dynamics, they just broke !!!
What was the polishing compound use as, release agent?
How did you connect sub amplifire to the original audio system?
What kind of masking tape did You use?
How do you fit the right sice of the box for the woofer ?
I see that it is a 12w6, box has the internal cubicle that the manufacturer recommends?
what was the approximate price to the customer for that? Without the raw speaker driver if possible.

did u put fiberglass on the front or just put the raisin on the flees then bondo

How do you know if you have the right cubic air space
Where did you get that round wooden part man?
very nice. good video too.
What about the other side? Also why didn't u play the woofer?
do you roll it out with a noodle roller at all i mean if you felt it i guess but ...
Is that enough airspace for a W7? I doubt it is... Also, I would have made that fiberglass much thicker. Those subs are no joke.
nah I had a small box like that and it was built to spec
Ever heard of poly fill?
Sealed boxes are typically much smaller than ported boxes
I really need the room and it sucks because in dieing to have some beat out and I can't. I think I'm going to try doing this.
