@@crutchfield maybe you can help me pick? 2018 Corolla IM. I'd like it to go under the driver seat but my seat is lowered all the way so I'm not sure how much space that leaves me?
We're happy to help and one of our compact powered subs is likely your best bet. When you get a chance, please take some measurements under the seat where you hope to place the it and maybe even measure another backup location too and reach back. From there, we'll help you find the best match.
@@crutchfield hey! I'm ready to upgrade this sound system. I have an aftermarket head unit ordered and coming. But I need some stuff, hopefully you can help? I need a double din dash kit and a wiring harness for a 2018 Toyota Corolla iM. I also need those subwoofers we were talking about but I have no idea where to mount them? I was hoping for some guidance on that. I don't want to lose any trunk space but I think my seats may go too low for them to go under? Can I put them under the back seat cushions? Also can I wire 2 underseat subwoofers together? Or am I stuck with one? If you guys could help me out I'd be extremely grateful. I've been googling all evening but I'm a complete noob here. Thank you for the compliment! We always try to cover the basics for every skill level, and also provide options that are easy to install if you are tackling it for the first time. Are you installing a subwoofer in your vehicle?
Working on my first car audio upgrade and Crutchfield/their service reps have been unbelievably helpful. Already swapped my tweeters and 4 car door speakers, up next is installing the sub and amp/LOC. Don't know how I would have managed this on my own without you guys. Thanks for everything
@@crutchfield I am going to install an infinity basslink mini powered sub. My one question is where does the blue wire from the wire harness plug in at the stereo? you never showed that step in this video
This was helpful as I just purchased an 8" Kicker Hideaway sub from Crutchfileld for my Mazda CX-5 (same car shown). I had it professionally insalled yesterday but they didn't bother tuning it like you show at the end and it sounds crappy. Tomorrow I will try adjusting the levels as shown and hopefully that will do the trick.
I have a sub in the back of my suv …. Instead of attaching the Velcro to the sub itself … use L brackets and attach the Velcro to the brackets and your floor …. Makes it removable… I sleep/camp in the back of my vehicle so this mod was much needed
Wish the demonstration was like the video from 6 years ago where you show more hands on step by step demonstration. It makes it so much easier for people who know nothing about car audio.

Thanks. Super relevant to my situation. Same car (CX-5, but different year) and powered sub (JBL BassPro Nano). I am putting it under the passenger seat to keep as much functionality in the rear hatch as possible. I suppose I could have gone w/the JBL BassPro Hub, but I didn't. Just need to run the power wire over the hump to the passenger side. Since the radio is already on the passenger side, it is just a matter of splicing into the factory harness to "steal" the front speaker signal.
I have a cadillac deville. Id like to keep it classy without huge subwoofer but this powered sub seems suitable. Maybe right in the trunk or under the backseat perhaps?
A compact powered sub is ideal when you want to add more bass without taking up a lot of space. Are you hoping to use this JBL BassPro Nano specifically?

Great video! I recently installed an Alpine amp with a Crutchfield purchased LCi2 Pro and R2-W12 and it went really well. First time using the posi-connectors by your site's recommendation...very cool. After building a box over the weekend and running some tests, I'm baffled at JBL's decision to crossover the sub signal at 60hz in the '23 Camry XSE. Is there a product you could recommend that could "detune" that signal so I can run an 80hz cross via my installed amp? Hours of reading forums has me at only two options -- tap into a front door speaker wire (at the stock amp), or purchase a DSP. There's very little literature on JBL's "premium" Toyota systems, that I'm left wondering if there's a legitimate way to access the tuning settings on either the amp or HU through a backdoor with a 3rd party device. Wishful thinking?
@@crutchfield Alpine S-A60M for now. After sending the original comment, I found an install guide with wiring chart for my vehicle on your website. Looks like my only option is to tap into one of the front speakers then route that to the unused sub channel on the LOC for the full range signal I'm looking for. Do you offer a wiring harness for the JBL amp or are we stuck with tapping into wires for this vehicle? Seems like a place called tacotunes (whatever that is) are the only people making direct connect harnesses. Metra seemed to bow out on the Gen 8 Camrys for some reason. Thanks for the reply by the way. Amazing how you guys keep up with youtube comments!
No harness yet for your Camry. Glad you were able to tap in using the LOC. You're welcome! If you need anything further, please let us know. Happy listening!
Awesomd video thanks guys! However, do you think with such a small subwoofer it would he efficient to install in the back of the car? Wouldn’t underseat a better option?
Thanks, Alihan! A lot of folks do put the compact powered subs up front, under a seat. You'd just want to measure for fit. Are you considering a specific sub?
@@crutchfield i’ve bought the jbl basspro nano. By the way, I am from the Netherlands, and guys it’s really a shame that you people don’t exist in Europe. Hope you will decide to open (online) stores in Europe! :))

It’s crazy I was just looking at a sub on Cruthfield’s website! Does the tech support also include full car stereo systems? Because I’m looking to add a sub and do my stereo for my 2012 Cadillac CTS
I ordered a 8" Infinity basslink 2 powered Subwoofer from Crutchfield and the power cable didn't come with the fuse adapter. I don't think I can do this myself and I want it under the passenger seat of my 2007 Honda Civic EX Sedan. Small car I know. I'm 57 yrs old and I can build desktop PCs but this is a different task. I called a car stereo business and they want to charge me $150. That seems kinda high for not having to deal with installing a Mono 4 ohm amp and a separate 8 Inch Subwoofer that would go in a box in the trunk. I have a 80x80 watt 2 channel Kenwood Car Amp powering a pair of 6.5 inch JBL 3 way speakers in the back. 2 6.5" door speakers to a Kenwood DDX 396 DVD/CD head unit.
The Infinity Basslink 2 does require a power/ground wiring kit with fuse for install (sold separately). The Crutchfield CK10 10-gauge wiring kit in the link below is a great match. If your installer was charging you for the wiring, you might be able to get a slightly lower price by purchasing the wiring from Crutchfield prior to the installation. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_007CK10/Crutchfield-CK10.html
We believe you are referring to the remote turn-on wire and we did not need a source for that wire. The powered subwoofer has an auto turn on ability that we activated starting around 5:34 of the video which allows the BassPro Nano to turn on when it senses voltage coming in on the speaker level inputs.
I wonder if you can connect speakers to the powered sub. For example, mine is ran with rca cables but my rear speakers aren’t working. Tried everything I could think of, the only other thing would be to connect them directly to the powered sub with speaker wire. Wonder if the sub would pick them up
if you use the high level input (getting the signal from the speaker wires) then the power indicator on the powered sub should only be one when it senses a signal and shouldn't be on when the vehicle is turned off, right?
Blessed Friday and congratulations on your excellent content! 🙏👌 I have the Pioneer TS-WX010A powered subwoofer (the smallest in its lineup), which is very energy-efficient (50W rated, 4.2A maximum current draw) and already comes with its fuse in the power cable. In my car (a 2004 1.6L Peugeot 206 cc), I have a Pioneer SPH-10BT radio with a maximum current draw of 10A, and I want to connect them via RCA cables. The fuse protecting the audio system's power in my car is 20A. The question is: considering the very low power requirement of the radio-subwoofer combo, is it possible to draw power for the subwoofer from the same yellow cable that supplies power to the radio, without running a cable through the firewall to the battery? In Japanese videos (where this subwoofer is quite common), I've seen them do it this way, citing the lack of a need for a direct battery connection due to its low power consumption. In advance, thank you, and greetings from Colima, Mexico 🙂.
Yes, the sub has a 10A fuse so you can tap in at the fuse box. Pioneer offers wiring instructions on page 3 of the manual here: pdf.crutchfieldonline.com/ImageBank/v20220118141400/Manuals/130/130TSWX010.PDF
I have a Nissan 370z and I have the upgraded Bose sound system so the bass is already pretty good but I just want a little more so I was wondering what you would recommend since my car is tiny and has no space
A powered subwoofer is a perfect choice for more bass impact in a smaller vehicle. If you have the Bose spare tire mounted subwoofer in your 370Z, you can replace it with the JBL BassPro Hub in the link below for a bass upgrade without giving up much usable space! You will need the Crutchfield CK10 10-gauge amp wiring kit in the second link below for your power and ground connections. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_109BASPROB/JBL-BassPro-Hub.html www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_007CK10/Crutchfield-CK10.html
I am a total newbie when it comes to car audio stuff so I thought I would try installing a kicker hideaway about a year ago. It had been working great until recently. Now when I am driving and playing music at low volume, i am getting what sounds like feedback coming through the sub. The noise even happens when I turn the music off. It only happens when the car is moving too. Any idea how to resolve this issue?
Hi Ian, sorry to hear your sub isn't working out perfectly! Your best bet is to start by double checking all your connections and wiring. From there, if you gotthe sub here, you can call our Tech Support. Their direct number is on your invoice.
The JBL BassPro Nano uses a 10-gauge wiring kit. 10mm is roughly close to the 8-gauge size which is slightly larger than required but still can be used. Make sure you are using oxygen free copper multi-strand wire suitable for car audio installation with the proper size fuse. Using the Scosche UAKP Kwik plug in the link below can help making wire connections from up-to 8-gauge wire to smaller gauge in a clean connection and can also make your subwoofer easily removeable. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_142UAKP/Scosche-UAKP-Universal-Amp-KwikPlug.html
Can i tap only one rear speaker? just for wiring simplification, and if so, do i tap for example the rear left speaker to both high level inputs or just the left one?
We do not recommend only tapping into one rear speaker for the audio. The reason you tap into both a left and a right channel is to ensure that the subwoofer gets the bass, no matter which side of the sound stage it comes from. For example, a bass guitarist could be be standing on the left side in some bands, or the right side in other bands. Sometimes, they walk around while playing so the bass moves from the left to right channel.
What if you’re tapping off the existing sub wires from the factory Bose amp? I tried this and it sounds okay but seems to be a little inconsistent. Do I need an output converter? If so, does it require another independent power supply and another remote turn on?
Using a line output converter generally will give you cleaner signal when tapping into a system with a factory amp. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
@03:50 so if i understood this right, you do not need a blue cable nor rca cables if you use the factory stereo/radio ? you only need a dual channel connection for signal?
If you are connecting to a factory radio and "tapping-in" for signal, the JBL BassPro Nano will turn on when an audio signal is played over the speaker wires. With this type of install you will not need to run RCA cables or the 12-volt turn on lead. Many powered subwoofers (not only the JBL BassPro Nano) will support this feature when connected with speaker-level inputs.
I have a 2023 Mazda 3 with the Bose sound system and the factory amp under the seat. I'm looking at getting a powered Subwoofer through Crutchfield. What powered amp would be a good fit? I was thinking of the JBL Basspro Nano. Also how do you identify the amp speaker cables to tap into? I don't seem to find any diagrams online.
We provide lifetime Technical Support with Crutchfield purchases and can provide info on where to "tap in" for signal in most vehicles when installing a powered subwoofer. With the BassPro Nano you do not need to pair an amplifier as it has power already built-in. Make sure to also pair the Crutchfield CK10 10-gauge wiring kit for power and ground connections, and some extra 16-gauge speaker wire and Posi-Taps for signal input connections. @@crutchfield what if I add an amp to power the cabin speakers? Can I still run a powered sub simultaneously if I'm just looking for a small sub and don't need crazy amounts of bass?
You can, and there are a couple pathways. If you want to use a small, powered subwoofer you can choose a 4-channel amp for the cabin speakers. You can also use a 5-channel amp where the 5th channel is more powerful and designed to drive a passive subwoofer. The most important thing to consider is making sure your amp choice is matched to the RMS wattage handling specifications of your speakers. We are always here to help you choose exactly the right gear!
When I installed a powered sub in my truck I hooked everything up but the power to the battery and no fuse in the holder. Then on the bolt that tightens the main truck battery cable I simply added another nut after I connected the sub power cable and tightened it down. Then I rechecked all my connections with the stereo off and last installed the sub fuse near the battery. There’s no disruption in power this way and completely safe unless you somehow poke a hole through the wires running through the grommet.
So I have the 2021 CX-5 with bose. I have everything ran and I have tapped into the factory sub. BUT the factory sub rolls off above 45hz. How can I tap into preamp wires or get a more full signal.
We do not have a way to get preamp level audio out of the radio in our vehicle. We do have parts with tech built in that helps restore the lower bass audio when its been rolled off by the stock radio. Brands like AudioControl have technologies to restore the bass. AudioControl calls theirs AccuBASS technology and they make LOC's with this for subs: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/p_161LC2IB/item.html
The concern with having a fuse not near the battery is that you'll have unprotected powered wire running the whole length of the wire in the vehicle. Ideally, when the fuse blows due to high current or short, the wire should cut power where it is safest, which is always at the source of voltage.
I have a 22 Mazda 3 sedan with the Bose factory system. I want a powered subwoofer and was thinking about the jbl nano in the video or the kicker hideaway. Which one would you suggest if it was going in the trunk?
Hi Tony, sounds like you're ready for some bass! Both great brands. Are you planning to maintain your factory radio and speakers? What types of music do you listen to most often?
The Kicker 11HS8 Hideaway in the link below is an excellent call if you are planning to mount in the trunk. With 150-watts RMS and an 8" woofer, the Kicker would have a slightly higher bass output than the JBL BassPro Nano. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_20611HS8/Kicker-11HS8.html
The installation process is very similar when installing a powered sub in a vehicle with an aftermarket radio. The only change is that you run an RCA audio cable to the sub preamp output on the radio instead of needing to tap into the stock speaker wire to get the audio.
You may want to try a different RCA cable. If that still doesn't resolve the issue, then we recommend contacting technical support to troubleshoot because this means it likely won't be an easy fix to get you up and running.
I wondered how these compact subs were anchored. Showing the addition of the Velcro strips and being attached to the cargo area's carpet cleared that up. Unfortunately, in the back of our 2015 Buick Enclave with the third row seats collapsed, we have a WeatherTech liner that covers the entire cargo area plus collapsed third row seats. Velcro is not going to work on that liner. :(
Most velcro that you buy comes with both the hook and the loop sides of the velcro with adhesive backing on both. You could clean the rubber liner with something like rubbing alcohol, stick one side of the velcro to that, and stick the other side to the amp.
What are you talking about? They used self-adhesive velcro--when you buy it, it comes with a strip of fuzzy velcro and a strip of scratchy velcro, and both strips have adhesive backing. You just apply the fuzzy (or the scratchy) velcro strips to the weathertek liner, and then apply the opposing kind to the subwoofer.
That could be an option for getting speaker level audio to send to a powered sub. We will be happy to check any details we have on your vehicle to see if this is possible in yours. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
HI George, sounds like you're building a great system! The correct wiring needs will depend on your exact setup. What brand/model subs and amp will you be using? Will you be using an aftermarket radio with pre-amp outputs?
@@crutchfield I found an RCA to speaker wire adapter by Rockford Fosgate, which I’m going to use. I have a factory stereo; my car comes with a factory sub (also a factory amp), so currently I’m unsure if I can use the factory subwoofer’s speaker lines or if I should use the regular speaker wires behind the head unit.
It's a Captain's choice situation here. You can use the full-range speaker outputs if you prefer or attempt to use the factory subwoofer's speaker outputs if the factory subwoofer amp is staying in place and functional. The factory subwoofer amp usually has a crossover already applied, so there may be less flexibility in sonic adjustment on the Rockford P300-12 if you get your signal there.
I have a similar size sub and mine is screwed onto the back of one of the rear seat. Would there be any issue of moving the sub to under the foam enclosed part of the trunk with a rubber mat bootliner on top of it? I have no spare tire so there is plenty of space
If you want to relocate the subwoofer, it will still sound good in an alternate installation location. With some smaller wattage powered subwoofers, you may see some change in performance depending on how thick the rubber liner placed on top is. Always make sure your wiring can connect properly in the new location and is in good condition.
@@crutchfield my car is a mercedes gla 180 2019. New speakers are the focal pc 165v for front and rear including tweeters. Sub is a focal i sub active. There is plenty space under the enclosed foam part and the boot liner is probably 1 cm thick! I just hate how my rear seat vibrates as my focal i sub active is mounted to it and the gain is set mid way, bass boost off, subsonic 37hz, low pass filter 95hz. Also another question. Is it common for new speakers to sound not great but after a break in period they gradually get better? Radio sounds muddy at the moment and i am having difficulties adjusting the car equaliser settings to clear sound for both radio and bluetooth. I have tuned the sub amp - focal i sub active 8 inch and believe i have got the settings right.
Sounds like you have room to add the liner. As to the full range issue, what are you using for power? Did your vehicle come with a factory Harmon Kardon system?
Its based on the power being pulled through the wire and often matched to the fuse rating in the powered sub (or fuse rating recommended by the powered sub manufacturer when there is no built-in fuses).
Most folks tap in at the radio or factory amp location. We have a great amp installation guide as well here: www.crutchfield.com/S-htL2pdUSGhL/learn/learningcenter/car/amplifier_installation_guide.html
I have a 2020 Nissan Altima SL with the Bose sound system. I’m looking at getting a powered Subwoofer through Crutchfield. would I need to buy two channel amp and rewire the two subs that are already in the back of my Bose sound system or just do exactly what this video says?
Are you using two aftermarket subs currently or factory subs matched to the factory amp? What new powered sub do you want to install? Are you using an aftermarket radio with pre outs?
That is a really exciting new Kicker powered subwoofer. It has the amplifier built-in. You would need to add the CK8 wiring kit in the first link below (you'll get a discount too when purchasing together). You will need around 40-feet of extra 16-gauge speaker wire for your signal, and it's always a good idea to grab a pack of Posi-tap connectors in the second link so you do not need to cut or splice any of your factory wiring for the audio signal into the Kicker powered sub. @@crutchfield oh ok. It said 18 AWG on the wires, but they seem thicker than 18 AWG. Yes, I’m currently using an aftermarket stereo that has RCA ports. I’ve already connected the RCA cables to the subwoofer. Is it possible to crimp 14 AWG with 8 AWG for both power and ground? I’ve never crimped different sized cables before, so I was wondering if there will be any issues.

Hi Emanuel, thanks for reaching out. What model powered sub are you looking to install? Will you be using an aftermarket radio with pre-outs? What year is your X5? Any plans to add other aftermarket amps down the road?
Since your car has a factory amp, using a good line output converter to tap in for signal will be best. You'll use it to tap in speaker-level and then run RCAs from it to your new powered sub. Any plans to add other aftermarket amps too or will you be adding this powered sub only?
I plan on installing an HS10 hideaway into a '23 CRV Hybrid without a bose system. Because I don't have a factory amp, what can you recommend for a power signal wire, the wire that notifies to turn on the amp/sub? Also would I need to purchase any other additional wiring? Thank you!
@@crutchfield Not at this time sadly - trying to keep this as close to untouched as possible haha. If I plan on changing anything else I'll probably be buying aftermarket speakers and tweeters from crutchfield.
In that case, you can use the speaker level input wiring included with the sub. Depending on where you opt to place the sub, you may need additional speaker wire to extend it. I've included that for you here: www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3183353 Keep in mind, the amp turns on when a DC offset signal is present on the speaker-level input.
@@crutchfield Ahhh I see. This is my first time looking into one of the all-in-one configurations. Tapping in for signal generally will not cause an issue in most vehicles. What is the year, make, and model of your car? What are you looking to install?
@@crutchfield The vehicle is a 23 Ford Maverick Hybrid. Id like to install one of your guys kicker 10" hideaways behind the rear seats. Battery is right there so if the rear speakers can be tapped without loss, it would be a super simple install
Dual amp kit could help prevent the need to run separate power wires for each powered sub. You may even be able to join two wires to each splice point you make into the stock wiring to get the audio. We have not tried wiring one remote level controller to two powered subs so if that is a necessity, we'd recommend getting a bigger, more powerful powered sub

@@crutchfield I've decided on the new Pioneer Active Slimline Subwoofer TSWX140DA and a 2 channel LOC. Do you know which wires (from my Toyota Corolla's factory head unit) I would have to tap into get both left and right signal?

I am a complete noob when it comes to car audio, i want to run an aftermarket head unit and use the rca cables to connect to an amplifier which then drives some aftermarket drivers, however i would like an enclosed powered sub, as anit seems to better value than one big powerful amp is it possible to connect the driver amp up to the sub amp ? If so how do i know if there are enough ports to do that ? As far i as see the 4 channel amp i am looking at can only support 4 speakers, so how does one go about wiring an additional amp as well as potentially a pair of tweeters ? Thanks guys you are welcome to ridicule me 😊 the endless connectors on the amp are very confusing.
If you are planning on using a powered subwoofer, you can connect for signal directly to most aftermarket radios. Many options will have a subwoofer-specific RCA output for amps or powered subwoofers. You will not connect your 4-channel amp to the powered subwoofer, and if you use a component set of speakers that use a woofer and tweeter combination you can drive all four speakers (front door woofers and tweeters) with 2-channels of your amp. Use our online Vehicle Guide to enter your specific vehicle details and we can show you component speaker options that are a solid fit!
@crutchfield that's great, in the last week I have 100x my knowledge, I have a good understanding of what i want now, bought a powered sub and going to get a good stereo with a good amp and run 3 way speakers
In most cases, no. There are some vehicles that do have a delicate electrical setup though. In those cases, it's best not to install aftermarket amps or processors. What type of vehicle do you have?
We are not able to research the Volkswagen Polo Vivos as those are not distributed in the U.S. market. We recommend checking with a local installer for help with your question
I was told by local electronics shop to use a cable snake to run the wires. Thought this was a good idea but DO NOT DO - I would not recommend this to anyone! I had the wire attached to it's tail but as soon as I let it loose damn thing took off in the wrong direction! Pulled on the wire but the tape came off it's tail. Now I've got a damn snake living in the dash of my car! Occasionally it pops it's head out of the vent opening and my wife is now not happy to drive the car! This going to cause an accident! Definitely take my advice - DO NOT use a cable snake!
Ok children, do we know why we run the audio cables such as rca on the opposite side of where the power cable is run? I want to see how many can answer without using Google 🤣.
Is the bass level and bass boost the same or different and its just that one is on the subwoofer and to easily access it to control the other one is fixed next to the steering ?

Double din dash kit.
Wiring harness for aftermarket head unit
Low profile subwoofers hopefully 2
Anything else you might think I need.
Hopefully you can help me tackle this project. Also, accessories and cosmetic mods are hard to find for the iM. What's up with that? Lol

Great choice! Let us know how you like it.

Glad your installation went well! What are you using to power your new sub?
@@crutchfield Alpine S-A60M for now. After sending the original comment, I found an install guide with wiring chart for my vehicle on your website. Do you offer a wiring harness for the JBL amp or are we stuck with tapping into wires for this vehicle? Back in my youth I learned how to do this on my beater cars.

Without removing the factory stereo how are you getting the remote connection to the powered sub. Did you also grab that from the factory amp ?
We believe you are referring to the remote turn-on wire and we did not need a source for that wire. The powered subwoofer has an auto turn on ability that we activated starting around 5:34 of the video which allows the BassPro Nano to turn on when it senses voltage coming in on the speaker level inputs.
I wonder if you can connect speakers to the powered sub. For example, mine is ran with rca cables but my rear speakers aren’t working. Tried everything I could think of, the only other thing would be to connect them directly to the powered sub with speaker wire. Wonder if the sub would pick them up
The powered sub's internal amp will only power the sub and not other speakers.
if you use the high level input (getting the signal from the speaker wires) then the power indicator on the powered sub should only be one when it senses a signal and shouldn't be on when the vehicle is turned off, right?
What brand and model sub are you looking to install?
At 5:38, you say to have the auto turn-on button set to off, or off...When would you have it set to on?
Off: if you'll be using an aftermarket radio with pre-outs and running the remote turn-on wire. On: if you'll be tapping in speaker-level for signal.
Upon further consideration, I believe it's less laborious to draw power directly from the battery than from the fuse box.@@crutchfield

When you tap into the L/R rear speaker wire it's just one side so either left or right, not both correct?
It is best to tap into both the left and the right speaker wires to ensure the subwoofer is getting all the bass in the audio.
I bought an amplifier kit, and i have a 10mm cable with that subwoofer. Will that work or is the cable too thick?
The JBL BassPro Nano uses a 10-gauge wiring kit. 10mm is roughly close to the 8-gauge size which is slightly larger than required but still can be used. Make sure you are using oxygen free copper multi-strand wire suitable for car audio installation with the proper size fuse. Using the Scosche UAKP Kwik plug in the link below can help making wire connections from up-to 8-gauge wire to smaller gauge in a clean connection and can also make your subwoofer easily removeable.

The absolute best.
I want to connect my powered sub directly to after market head unit, how do i do that?
You can connect a powered sub or separate amplifier to an aftermarket head unit's RCA preamp outputs using RCA cables.
If i am getting signal thru rca cables, what should i do with the open wires that are on the subwoofer harness? Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks, Joe. In that model, we show the sub located behind the rear side panel; but we show no fit info for the factory spot. Would you be okay using a new box mounted elsewhere? Radio wise, we show the vehicle's climate controls are built into the factory radio, so we do not recommend replacing it. We could look at options for adding Bluetooth though. The JBL BassPro Nano features 4-total wires for the speaker level inputs, positive and negative wires for left and right channels.
I just ordered new speakers for my jeep and thinking i might add one of these for some extra bass.
Adding a powered sub is a great way to enhance your bass. Do you have a specific model in mind?
@crutchfield no not really. I was just kind of browsing some options. I still need to install my speakers I just got
Breaking in the new speakers before choosing the sub is a good idea. That way, you can see how much more bass you need. Please let us know if we can help you choose the sub when you're ready of if you need anything else. Happy listening!
Disconnecting a battery in a modern car will make it haywire. How can you do this without disconnecting the battery?
We do not recommend or advise working on any electrical system when the vehicle's battery is connected, and the vehicle is energized.
Haywire? More like some configurable settings get reset. It is not worth ruining your ecus or relays trying to do wiring while battery is connected.
AudioControl calls theirs AccuBASS technology and they make LOC's with this for subs:
www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/p_161LC2IB/item.html
0:53 will this not drain the battery?
Nope it will not, it only takes power when you turn on your stereo.
No, it will only turn on when the stereo is on.
Can you install a fuse near the subwoofer instead other than next to the battery?
You'll want to install the in-line fuse very close to the battery - less than 6" from the battery is best.
The concern with having a fuse not near the battery is that you'll have unprotected powered wire running the whole length of the wire in the vehicle. Ideally, when the fuse blows due to high current or short, the wire should cut power where it is safest, which is always at the source of voltage.
I got lost at the remote turn on wire for a factory radio . Where does that go?
What model sub are you installing? Are you using a line output converter, or will you be taping in for signal using the sub's speaker-level inputs?
I have a 22 Mazda 3 sedan with the Bose factory system. I want a powered subwoofer and was thinking about the jbl nano in the video or the kicker hideaway. Which one would you suggest if it was going in the trunk?
Hi Tony, sounds like you're ready for some bass! Both great brands. Are you planning to maintain your factory radio and speakers? What types of music do you listen to most often?
I plan on keeping the factory stereo and speakers. I mostly listen to rock, sometimes hip hop and electronic. No country
The Kicker 11HS8 Hideaway in the link below is an excellent call if you are planning to mount in the trunk. With 150-watts RMS and an 8" woofer, the Kicker would have a slightly higher bass output than the JBL BassPro Nano.
www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc166/p_20611HS8/Kicker-11HS8.html
where can i find the cables used in this video please? Tks

is the amp kit necessary if your'e using an aftermarket head unit like the pioneer DMHW4660NEX?
The installation process is very similar when installing a powered sub in a vehicle with an aftermarket radio. The only change is that you run an RCA audio cable to the sub preamp output on the radio instead of needing to tap into the stock speaker wire to get the audio.
I just installed a Ground Zero 12" powered sub, and it doesn't work😢 The power light on the sub lights up, but no sound comes out
It sounds like the subwoofer is getting power but may not be receiving and audio signal. How did you connect to your vehicle for the signal input?
@@crutchfield The subwoofer is connected to my Pioneer head unit with an RCA cable
They have provisions for mounting in place using screws. That is likely the only way to secure one in place when velcro is not an option.
Most velcro that you buy comes with both the hook and the loop sides of the velcro with adhesive backing on both. You could clean the rubber liner with something like rubbing alcohol, stick one side of the velcro to that, and stick the other side to the amp.
That's a good idea too!
What are you talking about? They used self-adhesive velcro--when you buy it, it comes with a strip of fuzzy velcro and a strip of scratchy velcro, and both strips have adhesive backing. You just apply the fuzzy (or the scratchy) velcro strips to the weathertek liner, and then apply the opposing kind to the subwoofer.
can i simply tap off the rear speaker leads at the rear speaker tabs??
That could be an option for getting speaker level audio to send to a powered sub. We will be happy to check any details we have on your vehicle to see if this is possible in yours. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
How does multi powered subs work with an AB amp and aftermarket speakers work how many fuse blocks would I need for let’s say 2 powered subs
HI George, sounds like you're building a great system! The correct wiring needs will depend on your exact setup. What brand/model subs and amp will you be using? Will you be using an aftermarket radio with pre-amp outputs?
what size wire do I need to connect the subwoofer to my factory amplifier? I have a rockford fosgate p300-12 i plan on installing in my 2014 honda crv
8-gauge power wire is recommended. Will you be using an aftermarket radio with pre outs?
What amp fuse do I need? Is it based on the gauge of wire or the running watts?
Its based on the power being pulled through the wire and often matched to the fuse rating in the powered sub (or fuse rating recommended by the powered sub manufacturer when there is no built-in fuses).
3:05 Can you tap into the rear speaker wires, at the rear speaker?
Yes, anywhere along the length of the speaker wire is fine.
Most folks tap in at the radio or factory amp location. We have a great amp installation guide as well here: www.crutchfield.com/S-htL2pdUSGhL/learn/learningcenter/car/amplifier_installation_guide.html
Tapping in at the radio is the best option. To clarify, it is possible to tap in at the speaker location.
@@crutchfield everything in my car is is factory, the Bose sound system, and the radio
In that case, you can maintain the factory setup and add a sub amp. Which sub do you want to use?
@@crutchfield The Kicker 49PTRTP12
That is a really exciting new Kicker powered subwoofer. It has the amplifier built-in. You would need to add the CK8 wiring kit in the first link below (you'll get a discount too when purchasing together). You will need around 40-feet of extra 16-gauge speaker wire for your signal, and it's always a good idea to grab a pack of Posi-tap connectors in the second link so you do not need to cut or splice any of your factory wiring for the audio signal into the Kicker powered sub. We provide lifetime Technical Support with any order, so we can always help you get your purchases connected.

What do call that wire tapping connector?
Those are Posi-Products tap connectors found here:

What about the gauge of the wires? I have the JBL Basspro Nano. The power and ground wires on the wiring harness is 18 AWG. I’m reusing a wiring kit that has an 8 AWG power wire and an 8 AWG ground wire. Can I use those with the wiring kit?
It's 14-gauge power wiring on that model so 10-gauge will be easier to use. Will you be using an aftermarket radio with pre-amp outputs?
@@crutchfield oh ok. It said 18 AWG on the wires, but they seem thicker than 18 AWG. Yes, I’m currently using an aftermarket stereo that has RCA ports. I’ve already connected the RCA cables to the subwoofer. Is it possible to crimp 14 AWG with 8 AWG for both power and ground? I’ve never crimped different sized cables before, so I was wondering if there will be any issues.
We don't have any crimps to match 8-gauge; but I've included a good 10-gauge match for you here: www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3146956

2:40so I would plug in to the Amp? My radio signal. Or do I need to cut all these wires? I have a bmw x5. And it has its own amp.
Hi Emanuel, thanks for reaching out. What model powered sub are you looking to install? Will you be using an aftermarket radio with pre-outs? What year is your X5? Any plans to add other aftermarket amps down the road?

@@crutchfield sub with a built in amp. My x5 is the f15. 2015.
Since your car has a factory amp, using a good line output converter to tap in for signal will be best. You'll use it to tap in speaker-level and then run RCAs from it to your new powered sub. Any plans to add other aftermarket amps too or will you be adding this powered sub only?
@@crutchfield right on! Thank you!
And for now just this sub. And later would like to give more power to the factory speakers.
I plan on installing an HS10 hideaway into a '23 CRV Hybrid without a bose system. Because I don't have a factory amp, what can you recommend for a power signal wire, the wire that notifies to turn on the amp/sub? Also would I need to purchase any other additional wiring?
Thank you!
Great sub choice! Any plans to add any other aftermarket amps as well?
If I'm understanding it right, basically, once the hideaway sub detects power/signal from the speakers it'll just turn on? If so then great!
And I appreciate you taking the extra time to configure a cart for me!
I'll be sure to reach out if I have any further questions - thank you again 😊
You're welcome. Enjoy! Let us know whenever you need anything else.
Would tapping into the rear speakers reduce bass signal in certain vehicles? my local shop recommended against it
if the wire is thick enough their shouldnt be a problem u can always try.
Did your vehicle come with a factory B&O audio system? Any plans to add other aftermarket amps as well?
@@crutchfield non-B&O system. I am planning on installing a compact amp for the door speakers such as a KTA-450 or a kicker key 200
Now how do I wire 2 powered subs together?
Dual amp kit could help prevent the need to run separate power wires for each powered sub. You may even be able to join two wires to each splice point you make into the stock wiring to get the audio. We have not tried wiring one remote level controller to two powered subs so if that is a necessity, we'd recommend getting a bigger, more powerful powered sub
How much would an entry level sub upgrade cost?
We will be happy to help recommend one for you. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle? Did it come with a factory installed sub or will this become the first subwoofer installed into the vehicle?
Is one powered sub good enough? Or will i need 2?
Hi Jesus, sounds like you love bass! Which sub do you have in mind? What are you using to power the other speakers in your vehicle?
@@crutchfield i have a after market radio in my truck, bought some speakers recently but a subwoofer would really help, but that means i would need a custom box and that can get pricey. The jbl nano pro seems really good but im a bit sketched if it can really deliver, not looking to get my socks blown off but you know i just want something that will make a noticeable difference
This guy could definitely do something ASMR videos.
How does 'tapping' into the left and right wires work?
You can use an amp with speaker-level inputs or add a line output converter to tap in speaker-level for signal. Do you have a specific powered sub or amp in mind?
@@crutchfield I've decided on the new Pioneer Active Slimline Subwoofer TSWX140DA and a 2 channel LOC. Do you know which wires (from my Toyota Corolla's factory head unit) I would have to tap into get both left and right signal?

Boss shows that sub does have speaker level inputs you can use to tap in either at the radio or if there is a factory amp, you can likely tap in there.
If i mess up can you have the same dude talking ? 😂😂
Hi Edson, we do have Tech Support available here to help you install any components you purchase from Crutchfield. Their direct number will be on your invoice.

Great video and great speaking voice, very calming but i do not like the fact you called the boot the cargo area lol
🤣
Will this not void the warranty of the car?
In most cases, no. There are some vehicles that do have a delicate electrical setup though. In those cases, it's best not to install aftermarket amps or processors. What type of vehicle do you have?

Guys, its really not that hard. If you don't think you can do this yourself, you can! I installed my own in my car years ago by myself, its easy!
Awesome! Sounds like you're still enjoying that sub today? What model is it?
🤔
zzzz...I'm sorry? What?
Lol, No. Not this easy.
Is the bass level and bass boost the same or different and its just that one is on the subwoofer and to easily access it to control the other one is fixed next to the steering ?
The level controller lets you adjust the output levels where as the bass boost lets you increase the output of low frequencies.
