James Justice ive installed a sub into a Cadillac but that had a blown speaker over the rear deck so it was really easy. Just snipped wires from old speaker, spliced and connected to the new box. Done in 10mins... But now in a Jeep with no speakers in the trunk , the closest are in the backseat doors , are you saying I could just pop the door panel off and splice some wire into one of the speakers on the rear doors and run that to the trunk and connect it to the sub ? Would I need a ground like this guy said ? I didn’t have to do that before in my Cadillac. Also would it put a strain on my battery or alternator by adding the Subwoofers? Or does that come down to sub wattage and how strong the amplifier is ? (2 12” Powerbass)

I’ve been a customer of crutchfield for years, back before the type r 12’s went from 500rms up to 600, they’re generally more expensive than my local shops and other online stores but their customer service more than makes up for it. Add to that the fact that they also send instructions specific to your project via car make/model, year and various trim options and it’s easy to see why I’ve recommended them dozens upon dozens of times. Oh, and they also provide the adapters for, say, the door speakers in an extended cab 2000 s10. That kind of stuff really makes a huge difference. This is literally the only company I’ve ever consistently recommended to my friends, coworkers and family *and* never once have I regretted it. Every time they listened to me I’ve always received an almost surprised call/text from the respective person saying that they haven’t ever been so surprised by the supreme coverage provided for the product by a company. I bought the sound ordnance ported bandpass dual 12’s, matching alpine amp and focal 165v1 component one time and they sent the replacement focal speakers before I even returned the original ones to them. One of the mid range woofers has an incredibly minuscule pin prick of a hole right by the seal but other than that I honestly cannot explain the amazing, full body sound that they create. The soundstage is unparalleled and songs like bohemian rhapsody literally sounded like I was a couple rows back dead center at a concert just for myself/occupants. This comment got out of hand but it’s honestly because I can’t recommend crutchfield enough, back in the mid 2000’s I was hesitant to spend my limited cash(I was around 17/18 at the time lol) on a system I had priced around town/online that I knew was around 80-100 dollars more expensive but the warranty included already made up for it as that alone would have cost more from daddy-o’s(one of my infamous local shops) but then when I got the items, which arrived insanely quick relative to what I’d been used to with places like eBay etc at the time, I found a print out with detailed instructions. This peace of mind was invaluable as this was my first install I’d done by myself and was beginning to second guess myself. The instructions were great, but the added speaker wire adapters were greater. That was one of those things you sometimes just completely don’t even consider until you’re midway through the project and it’s now too late to go to the store lol that was such a life saver and that experience made me a customer for life, if that was somehow in question at this point. I love crutchfield, I’ve never loved a company, hell ive only ever really loved two women so I’m not exactly throwin around love lol but crutchfield is something else. They do things the right way in a time where they really don’t have to. I’ve got about seven stories where they have saved or at least expedited a project of mine but this comment is excessive enough. *TL;DR Crutchfield is unparalleled and their customer service is in a league of its own.* Edit - man the whole reason I even started this comment was to point out the guy calling the mini van a hatchback lol I found that funny even tho I guess it’s technically correct, just found it humorous. Good idea to wiggle stranded wires after you tighten them under a screw to let them settle into the open areas. It will allow you to tighten the wires down a little more.
@Rivxrv shit LMAO I always hooked up my own audio. Of course without knowing shit. But it always worked. Your comment just made me realize a issue ive been having with my audio for the last 10 year's. I ran the remote turn on to a fuse. My thinking was. Car turns on amp for my two 12's comes on (along with radio). And it worked fine. Except for the rare time the radio accidently gets turned off. Those fucking subs rumble bass that just about blows my fucking ear drums out . just realized that must be because the head unit is off and amp still has power. Well shit. Just picked up a 19 scat pack Challenger. I really dont want to pull my dash apart but guess it'll need to be done.
I just installed an aftermarket head unit and it took me 3 hours hahaha then again removing the dash was the most time consuming cause my car's a bitch.

Its not too bad honestly... theres one or two things that can sometimes be a royal pain in the ass but if everything goes smoothly (i know i know how often does that happen?) Then it aint so bad
The installation would be very similar with a powered (self-amplified) subwoofer--you just wouldn't need to use speaker wire to connect the amp and sub together in that case, otherwise the rest of the steps remain the same. For more details or to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor on the Crutchfield website: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc000/Support/Chat.aspx Thanks, Crutchfield

Just so you guys understand; taking apart the entirety of the dash isnt necessary for all vehicles. It depends on how the dash is made and how your stereo fits in. You also skip almost the entirety of that step if you have an aftermarket stereo installed, you still of course have to take apart the dash but it removes the need for a line out converter because your aftermarket stereo should already have a subwoofer RCA output or two. The only wire you would be required to tap into with an aftermarket stereo is your accessory/acc line, which tells your stereo and after installation your amp to turn on when the vehicle starts. Its not quite as scary as it looks.
If you purchase your amplifier/subwoofer from Crutchfield, then we include our in-house Tech Support who you can contact 7-days a week with any wiring/installation questions. For items purchased elsewhere, we still offer Tech Support as a service which you can purchase from our website here: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc000/p_000TECH90/Crutchfield-Tech-Support-90-day.html Hope that helps! --Crutchfield
Its been a loooong time since i installed a Amp in my car, here recently Ive felt like installing one and just kinda wanted to watch a video for a refresher course, just like a bicycle, you just never forget how to ride one, lol, the components are niftier and more modern but the steps are still the same, cool.
Use a voltmeter or look up a fuse diagram for your car that tells you which fuse is at 0 V when car is off and ~12 when car is on/in acc mode. Tap into that fuse with a fuse tap, and wire that blue wire from the fuse tap to the amp.
This is a good tutorial but I have a real issue with where you got your source power, you went off of the battery terminal directly and I would think you being a professional shop you would know that you never ever use the battery as power distribution because it will cause galvanic corrosion (corrosion from two different metals touching and the presence of an electrolyte) on the stud and cause more corrosion on the battery terminal and connection causing an internal resistance in the cable to the cranking motor and can be the cause of hard starting. To properly wire ANYTHING extra into a vehicle (lights, speakers, ect) the factory has provided you with a power distribution center that is either near the fuse box under the hood and is maked as accecory power, if the vehicle doesn't have a provided power distribution center from the factory then you go to the cranking motor solenoid and locate the B terminal, it's the biggest on it and made of copper, it has a big cable coming from the battery connecting to it. I just figured I'd drop some useful knowledge on you guys because I see this all the time and it causes so many problems and nobody seems to questions the shady wiring jobs that were done because the shop was truly ignorant of how to do it correctly or they were just too lazy to do it correctly. I feel it is a sad day when almost an entire industry can't follow simple guild lines set by the OEM, I mean they didn't go through all the trouble of giving you options for powering accessories so you could just do it incorrectly and charge people money. As a professional you should pride your self in making any changes to a vehicle be as factory as possible. Sorry if that came off as insulting but I'm just stating that as professionals all work should be done correctly.
Morgan Ruegsegger could you explain in detail how to use the proper instillation points in order to correctly hook up a subwoofer. I want to do this correctly in my car
Given wiring directly to the battery has been the standard way to install an amp for at least the past 30+ years and has led to no issues of note, I'm thinking they'll be fine. (and as James notes, dielectric grease should be used on all the connection points).
Because they had two cameras on him and he isn't sure which they have cut to so he is splitting the difference by looking back and forth at them both as fast as he can.. ;)
This was amazing from start to finish, I had started to fiddle with my 1999 Honda about 5 years ago and did my first install and it was “ight” and then my mom asked me to do the same for her hummer which I didn’t want to touch with a 10 ft pole and told her take it to the shop bc when I did mine I did it soooo dangerously and have not picked doing any type of system until watching this video step by step I think I am ready to put 3500 watts inside my 2021 Hyundai sonata 😊
However if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself take it and have it done by a professional. It’s not worth having your vehicle burn down for a little bass.
MR.MUZIQ lmao that statement couldn't be more wrong. Bmws are the worst because everything is different. Most have fiber optic lines going from radio to factory amp, and that factory amp doesn't like to see a converter on any of its lines. If you install a sub in a BMW and it sounds good and nothing went wrong, consider yourself very lucky lol. That being said bmws have their batteries mounted under rear seats sometimes as well
This is hands down one of the best sub-woofer install/instructions videos on the internet. Thank you.

Good idea to wiggle stranded wires after you tighten them under a screw to let them settle into the open areas. It will allow you to tighten the wires down a little more.
I was thinking that too! I always give them a little ’tug test’ and then retighten!
this guy gives me cool science-teacher vibes. love it
Just ordered my new receiver with an amp and JL sub from crutchfield. Lots of people trash talk but i have never had a bad experience with them
Thanks for shopping with us! 🙂 Which JL Audio sub did you go with?
For once someone made it super simple to understand. thank you!
People never specify. It drives me nuttttssss
Wow, great video! Thank you so much for teaching us! I’m definitely taking on this project next summer. 2022!
Summer is here, have you started?
Thanks to the Crutchfield team for making this video.
You're welcome! 🙂
This is the most straightforward video on the internet on how to do this. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it Alex
Lmao damn i was hoping for a sound test 💀
It would have been good to have played the stereo before and after. Good in-depth video! Thanks! :)
Natural teacher. Thx
Finally, one of the best explanations Ive ever seen
A big sub in a Mazda MPV...
I love it. Awesome!
Flex Lume?
Fle- *begins having flex tape flash backs*
But wait, there's more!
Eder Rocha it even works underwater!
Oooh Man, I wanted to hear it when he got done. 😊
It almost seems like he done that before. Lol
so if the battery is in the back...you pretty much got it really easy
Camel Fetus that’s not entirely true, it’s the same if not more work
@Rivxrv shit LMAO I always hooked up my own audio.
@Rivxrv Awesome thank you man. I'll have to look into that!
Basically I’m installing in my 2008 Dodge Charger and my battery is in the trunk 🙏🏾💯
Best amp and sub installation video I have ever watched!!
Thank you! 😃 It's great to hear that you found it helpful! 🙂
This guy is simply the best for learn about how to do a SIMPLE instalation!
take a shot every time he says “wire”
Drunk as fuck lol
booboo daddy HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣
@@sauce4148 chill lol
If only it was this simple tho lol. I just wired some in my Taurus and it took me 3 hours.
My 2013 Taurus strereo is giving me so much trouble, L.O.C. is troubling mainly
I just installed an aftermarket head unit and it took me 3 hours hahaha then again removing the dash was the most time consuming cause my car's a bitch.
I'm tryna add a sub to my 2013 taurus but cant find a place to run the freakin power through the fire wall
Ahakim24 still a hole yourself and install a grommet
@@ahakim2442 under the steering column by the fuse box, run up the wire and out through where the door opens, follow the other wires to under the hood.
Instructions not clear ,my alligator drove off a cliff, plz help
Was the Interior Crocodile??
no one is safe wtf are you flexing in that profile pic...
Noah P his kool aid Bottle lookin ass muscles lmao I’m weak
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
You guys make finding which wires in the harness are the speaker wires look so easy !!
It is easy! (especially with the help of our lifetime tech support)
Couldn’t have made it look easier, great job with the video tutorial
Thanks! It's great to hear that you found it helpful. 🙂
On stock stereo install don't take apart the dash. Just tap in to the rear speakers using T taps on the speaker wire. And buy a LOC adapter with remote turn on wire
Bro hooking up a sub is hard work 😓
seriously lol
Its not too bad honestly... theres one or two things that can sometimes be a royal pain in the ass but if everything goes smoothly (i know i know how often does that happen?) Then it aint so bad
Just a small question. if I were to use a sub with a built in amp how would the procedure differ in terms of it's installation?
Southern Turner Was thinking about the vibe 12 with the built in amp
The installation would be very similar with a powered (self-amplified) subwoofer--you just wouldn't need to use speaker wire to connect the amp and sub together in that case, otherwise the rest of the steps remain the same.

bro for real I have an electrical background with my degree. the one thing i haven't done is my own car from scratch like you just showed i seriously always got tripped up with wiring so i am on here trying to figure out the best ways to hook up some bass. great job my man fore, real. so much so that dude as u can see I'm using my wife's profile, and never comment on anything. but here I am leaving a comment good job my man. GOD bless you and your
Thanks for the compliment! Hope you take on a DIY install soon
This video’s the best I’ve seen…and i didn’t have to look long to figure It out.
All good points! 🙂
thank you brother
Even tho he going step by step, I’m still confused wtfs wrong with me
I have a car here in Oregon and i was wondering if I made a call would you help me install the system into my car? Obviously with payment of course.

Its been a loooong time since i installed a Amp in my car, here recently Ive felt like installing one and just kinda wanted to watch a video for a refresher course, just like a bicycle, you just never forget how to ride one, lol, the components are niftier and more modern but the steps are still the same, cool.
you r the best professional installer music system that I know so far...
I personally run the remote wire to the fuse box so the amp turns off with my car instead of the radio eventually turning off
Jordan Wesolowski which fuse connection did you connect it to? When I try that my amp doesn't turn off
Use a voltmeter or look up a fuse diagram for your car that tells you which fuse is at 0 V when car is off and ~12 when car is on/in acc mode. Tap into that fuse with a fuse tap, and wire that blue wire from the fuse tap to the amp.
can't you just connect the line box to a speaker in the back
Yes you can and it is absolutely the better way to do it
EpilepsyWarning only in a coupe
My thoughts exactly.
Morgan Ruegsegger could you explain in detail how to use the proper instillation points in order to correctly hook up a subwoofer. I want to do this correctly in my car
Everyone installs them from the battery, oh well what are you gonna do about it?!
or you could just use dielectric grease to avoid corrosion
Given wiring directly to the battery has been the standard way to install an amp for at least the past 30+ years and has led to no issues of note, I'm thinking they'll be fine. (and as James notes, dielectric grease should be used on all the connection points).
Wife has this same car. Wish I had seen this video before I spent an entire day trying to figure it out myself. 🤦🏾
Solid vid.
I cant get over how great of a video this is.
😊
1:21 did my manz burp or throw up a little?
I need a new amp 😞 I have a weak ass kenwood
Him looking to the left and right is killing my he acts like he is being watched
Currently Pregnant he is being watched
Currently Pregnant now i can’t help but notice it 😂😂
We are wAtching him
They are like, "bitch you better do this right"
Because they had two cameras on him and he isn't sure which they have cut to so he is splitting the difference by looking back and forth at them both as fast as he can..
Awesome! Sounds like you're a pro now! :) What type of setup do you have in mind for the Sonata?
5:27 His confidence of using tools over the engine bay like that is making me nervous.
Im confused asf
The Comment Referee it’s actually really straight forward! I just put two 12s in my truck and it might’ve took an hour if that
However if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself take it and have it done by a professional. It’s not worth having your vehicle burn down for a little bass.
I mean when actually doing it in person maybe, buy it's very straight forward.
So that mean you dont have to run any power and ground to your lc2i if you just run speaker??
BurntOstrich how much does this usually cost?
Bmw's are easier because everything is in the trunk.
That being said bmws have their batteries mounted under rear seats sometimes as well
That's a load of BS have you even installed a system in a BMW
14:05 Donald Trump
How cute. I installed my first amp back in 2000
You killed it @Crutchfield.... Amazing video
Thanks, Kyle!
