Lol, I still have a passive Bazooka tube from the 90's sitting on a shelf. Back in the day I had an old school Orion 10" in that tube, mounted in a hatchback. That thing slammed
SAS Bazooka is the original Bass Tube started in the 80's. I had a couple set-ups. In the 90's I had 2 6 Bazooka's on a 140w Alpine V12 series amp and a Alpine head unit in a minivan and I was setting off car alarms and couldn't see out of the rear view. Second setup was in my Audi 5000, I had 4 Bass Tubes with replacement subs 3 10" Rockford Fosgate subs and one 10" Lanzar sub on a Rockford Fosgate 30/30 amp which was ridiculous. I put my nephew on it and he had 3 Bass tubes with 10" Rockford Fosgate P3's on 500w Rockford amp
SAS was amazing! Had two 6" tubes in a Celica with a Pioneer amp, then 1 6" with a bridged Alpine Flex 4 in a Passat. Last system was 1 6" with another bridged Alpine in an Xterra. Bazooka tubes went hard.
It is weird, but transverse mounted engine/trans. cars they can put the shifter pretty much anywhere they want because its all cable driven mechanicals.
When I was a young man trying to hook up home speakers in our big ol sedans, a met a guy that had 6 x6” bazooka tubes stacked 3 high and opposing each other behind the seat of a single cab s10. To this day, I’ve never witnessed anything like the sound those things put out. I didn’t think it was possible to get that kind of bass from 6” tubes. Not sure what he was using for power but that was the first time my hat moved and voice shook in a car from bass.
In 1998, I had a single 10" MTX Audio bandpass box that I got from Circuit City in the back of my extended cab S-10. I used to get asked all the time if I had two 12s. Everyone was always surprised when they saw it was just a single 10. Man, that thing bumped so hard lol. Good ol days 😌
ALL my speakers are in tubes. (Subwoofers, woofers and midranges) Tube can be lightweight, and super solid and don't need much bracing due to the inherent nature of a circle. My 18" subwoofer is in a Tube-based T-line tuned to about 17hz. Boxes are heavy and bulky and for a daily driver not really that smart. For an SPL vehicle.. Boxes are fine but if I had an SPL vehicle.. It would still be all tube baby!
JBL partybox should have those inputs where we can plug it and use it as subwoofer then unplug and use it as portable bluetooth speaker. Like the JBL bass pro go.
I had a custom made enclosure in my CRX….it had two 12” subs and two 5” mids, the rest was the original location speaker places. The two in the door and two in the rear. It was amazing. The amp was located under passenger seat. Best set up. The only downside was I lost my trunk space and the extra weight it put on the car. LOVED it.
Nice! The Bazooka's were so effective. Back then we have no super powerful amps. I had a JBL 10" in a sedan and by lowering the center rear seat it created an awesome, clean deep bass.
I just commented to someone else about them. I still have a passive Bazooka that I had an old school Orion 10" in it on about 500 watts. Ran it in the back of an 86' Camero Z28. It was way louder than you'd expect for a single 10". Those tubes loved hatchbacks.
Haha, I remember seeing these in the 1994 crutchfield catalogs!!! I dreamed about owning a bass tube, Blaupunkt tape player, and a sweet pair of 6 x9’s in the rear window!
Lollll yuppp. Had a Bazooka 10" in my first car back then, 97' Civic hatch. It being a hatch definitely boosted the sub too, absolutely loved it as my first sub setup since I didn't need to wire in an external amp and such. OG stuff.
Makes sense for them to bring these back. Most portable speakers with passive radiators are circular like my JBL Charge 5. Id love this because im not into blowing the windows out. I used to be, but now i just like some solid clear hi quality audio.
First sub I ever had was an infinity 12” bass tube in a mk4 escort, first car. 30 years later 2 x18”s running Infinite baffle in a camper van. Never grow out of a bit more bottom end 😁
I have had several. I have also built my own out of schedule 40/80 pvc with fantastic results. Have also built a few t-line systems out of pvc tubing, and house building tubing.
I suggest reading the loudspeaker design cookbook. It’ll help in understanding how the design of the enclosure is predominately based on volume, and your tube is a ported design so it’s tuned. Using the Fs, Qts and Vas parameters of the speaker allows you to design the enclosure around the speaker. I remember back in the day with the original bass tubes having super efficient drivers, but an inherent ring and low total power handling. Good stuff they came back.
I still have a B-52 Bass Bomber bass tube. It was last used about 10 years ago, running off a 50W mono amp module from Aliexpress. Sounded surprisingly great for its age.
Ive had several bass tubes, 10" bazooka, there was a stereo shop in south florida called in your ear stereo gear that branded is own subs and tubes called tm rush and they slammed, he made them from 6.5s to 15s. My friend had a 6.5 under the seat of his truck and it hit pretty good. My dad and i each had a 12" tm rush. I had a pio neer tube in the late 90s that was a 4th order bandpass, it hit nice until the plexi started to rattle. Ive built several bass tubes with cardboard sonotubes and they nvr disappoint.
Had 12" rectangle shaped bass "tube" no roll, in my 97 maxima SE with the stock bose system. Sounded great, loved that car. Would open the ski hole in the arm rest area to let it breath even more...
I had one of these in the mid 2000s. I had a passive setup and was dissapointed. But my mate got an active JBL, and it pumped. It was way better than you would expect. And it got surprisingly low. I'd recommend an active sub for someone that just wants an added dimension to their sound. But yeah. Strap it down. It does move.
I did indeed have washing powder drums in the 90's. The difference with large Rockford Fossgate amps and subwoofers was that the bass tubes had good bass, but the larger high-power subwoofers screwed into the rear seat backrest built up 10 times more bass PRESSURE than such a drum, so you felt the bass much better. It's two worlds.
Man this takes me back ..I had two back in 96 in my 1992 s10 I had them in the bed of the truck it had a snug top camper with a Pass-Through back window
Wow! Haven’t heard basstubes since I was in high school!!! I had a pair of 8” self amplified Bazooka bass tubes in my 1987 integra, great sounding and low cost to get bass in your car. Great for lows but don’t expect tight bass because they were ported, if you looking for more tighter bass, sealed is best. Hopefully this JBL version is better.
Few years back got me a free pair of og bazooka 6" tubes with disintegrated woofers because they were neglected outside in the sun for a few years. Took those off and slapped in some JL audio woofers and it thumped hard in what I had at the time a 1994 sentra.
my 2000 2dr Ford Ranger installed 8in 200w Bazooka 2 6x9's and a 6 disc cd changer all behind the seats... compromised no seat room. 16 y/o me was happy AF
I had 2 15” 2000 watt subs in my vauxhall nova boot, 4 450 watt 6 x 9 on my homemade stealth shelf with my pioneer flip front stereo all powered by a 5000 watt amp! Those was the bone shaking days! Probably the reason why my hearing is the best 😂 max power and revs magazines stacked for my mates to read when they came round. 🤦🏻♂️
Late 90’s I had 1984 Mk1 Bedford / Vauxhall Astra / 1982 Mk3 Ford Escort (Mk1 )vans with GTE / XR3 rear seat conversions ( Recaro’s ) vans boarded out, hinged tool compartments over the rear wheel arches & a or 2 Bass Cannon’s, I think 10” ( Yep I’m That old, ) & cassette / CD player upgrades, speakers & boxed 6x9’s. Nothing fancy or show worthy, but damn they gave a good thump thump, ( there was a TV advert of a van having people in the back kicking & punching the insides of the van with loud music to sound like bass system. ) I’m still into speakers / Subs etc, currently working on 2x12” subs with household DENON speaker boxes integrated with tweeters etc on a Mk6 2005 Transit Long Wheel Base, High roof ( Above cab ) bulkhead build. I Already upgraded to Bluetooth / aux head unit, upgraded front door speakers & boxed 6x9’s in the back. Again won’t be anything like show worthy, but turns heads when a tatty old Transit cruises passed with tunes thumping / panels / wing mirrors shaking. Daniel.
Happy to see bass tubes back. I don't know how this jbl sounds. I can assure u the sas bazooka from the 90s was a good bass tube. 2x 10" behind the seats people was thinking it was 2x 15" in the back. Amp was the eq with built in amp in under your head unit in the 90s does things was maybe 25watt and punding good bass I have sold many self made bazookas. 10" pvc pipe and a 4" pipe in 1/2. One side u close it withe wood. Very easy
Seems like the tube design would be super solid and flex resistant without needing to be very thick or heavy. You lose a bit of air space with those lost corners but braces would take away from air space also.
I had a Bazooka Tube in my '85 4Runner, in the 1990's... Then I got a custom box with two 12'' Alpine subs to match my Alpine door speakers & head-unit.
I once used a plastic tube/tub that contained detergent with a 12in sub back in 96/97 when i was a teen. It actually worked. Not well but it did produce some bass...
The originators of the tube design in car audio was SAS with the Bazooka. The difference between their tubes and others is their patented design. It's why there's no other company which makes the port opening on the same end as the woofer. They can't.
Lot of jbl products are well worth the price because the quality is great for the price the bass and audio from Jbl is what makes them stand out from others I love JBL all I own is JBL speakers lol
HOLY $HIT that's a monster...lol. I was always a fan of a bass tube. Bazooka made nice bass tube's. 2 bazooka 10's in a hatchback facing opposing sides and you would definitely hear it coming from a couple blocks away 😂
Had a bazooka 50w 8" self powered. Most people didn't believe it was a low powered 8". Tubes are perfect for subwoofers, inherently very rigid and lightweight.
the bazooka bass canons I used to have one for a minute back in the day in the 90's they didn't get you noticed back then but that jbl looks like it's pretty good for only 150watts
Heard two of these in a mid/ late 50s Bowtie custom Chevy back in the late 90s and that Chevy QUAKED!!! The guy that owned it was playing Dear Mama by Tupac in a Publix parking lot while I gathered the grocery carts. He was facing basically West in front of the store and I was South East in the parking lot and even the back waves were beating like crazy! I hated to hear it from the front!!!! These things work folks!
I actually have a basstube in my room. It has a 10" SQL subwoofer in it but the landing got separeted and I dont care enough to fix it. It was my first ever subwoofer, I put it in my Toyota Carina E -93 and it was quite loud for a 10" sub. Now its just propping some stuff for internet :D
I had in my opinion the best small box back in the 90s, it was called a Bad Box and it had 2 10" facing each other inside the box, it was such a small box and I had it hooked up to an Alpine 1000 watt amp. I am old now and I cannot be assed to rip out the head unit as in new cars its so hard to make the change with built in screens, so I am running a JBL PartyBox 310 in my boot I charge it twice a week and does me very nicely being wireless..
I had a Datsun 310gx hatchback with an 18” passive tube. It was ugly and blue carpeted. But it definitely rocked. Had a small bazooka tube in my grand am with infinity kappa separates up front and 6x9s in back rockford Fozgate amps for the fronts and back that was a really nice sounding system really loved it
Their car audio lineup is extremely overpriced for what you get. Has been for decades. Used to be impressed but then I got heavy into car audio and I realized for the same cost as a JBL setup you can get a 10x plus better system that thumps crazy and has amazing sound quality. JBL car audio is overhyped entry level gear which they charge premium prices for (ie a 400w rms identical tube setup here in the states will cost you around $250 (instead of the $480 this cost) and sound 10x better)
I remember back in the days people spend thousands of dollar for the speaker system and probably still do nowadays. Thanks to Bluetooth speaker that more easier to put in the car
I had a 10 inch Bazooka back in 1994. It was behind the passenger seat of my 1994 Mazda B2200 single cab truck. It thumped hard!
Bazookas where cool i blew a few but clean
Heck yes!
My buddy had one too!😮
Are you Latino?
Last time I seen a bass tube I didn't have a licence and I'm 37
Lol, I still have a passive Bazooka tube from the 90's sitting on a shelf. Back in the day I had an old school Orion 10" in that tube, mounted in a hatchback. That thing slammed
Guy at the auto shop tried to sell me a kicker bass tube about 4 years ago. I ended up just getting a slim sealed box.
Same here and am 43🤣
Had one in my first car 86 Corolla manual at that lol I’m 44 this year. Think 1998/99 when I had it.
I remember seeing them at Circuit City when I was a senior in high school. I’m 37…
I had my Bazooka in my cars in the 90’s. That same Bazooka is still going strong in my 18 year old son’s car.

But did it sound loud???
Are we gonna ignore how insane the stick placement in this car is?
Just like the Honda Element, dash shifter 😁

Ep3 do be funky lil cars
that shit is downright offensive
It is weird, but transverse mounted engine/trans. cars they can put the shifter pretty much anywhere they want because its all cable driven mechanicals.
An spl meter reading would really give us sound guys a true sense of the performance when you give this box and sound/performance reviews.
Not meant for that type of sound.

They already do, it hard mounts under the rear package try and disconnects and works like a partybox.

the bazooka bass canons I used to have one for a minute back in the day in the 90's they didn't get you noticed back then but that jbl looks like it's pretty good for only 150watts
Brother ,who ever edits the music tracklist on your vids is fire💪🏾. Always on point👂🏿
SVS , a company that makes subs for home audio, started out by making cylinder subs. I’ve heard that they preferred them to the newer normal shapes
SAS was the original makers of the Bazooka tube. I wasn't aware SVS made tubes.
Nevermind. I found it. I do remember a friend having one in his house. It was standing up on end. I just never knew the brand of the sub. 👍
We called them bazooka in some parts of the states, very cool bass woofer , I was in my teens and was saving to buy a second hand car
I had a Datsun 310gx hatchback with an 18” passive tube. It was ugly and blue carpeted. But it definitely rocked. Had a small bazooka tube in my grand am with infinity kappa separates up front and 6x9s in back rockford Fozgate amps for the fronts and back that was a really nice sounding system really loved it
JBL had a twin subwoofer base to way back, like 30 years ago I remember it sounding really good. Well relatively speaking.
The best Bass Tube you can get is the Pioneer TS WX20 LPA (The Pump)... for this little Thing its phenomenal
Omg.. I remember my Kraco 200W bass tube that fit perfectly behind the back seat of my VW Bug. That was way back in 1998. Wow.
it’s a JBL of course it’s amazing!
I had one for 17 yrs till the wiring caught on fire it was so nice
It looks sick from outside
Even the brand is so sick
Love it
I was hoping these would make a comeback. Love it. Lol
I got Pioneer pump 200w still rocking ... and its 20 years old.
I had 4 SAS in my Mustang hatch loved the sound.
Sorry 10" in size
I’m willing to bet you never heard or had a tube before. I think they give the most bass I have a few in different rides they hit hard
I remember back in the days people spend thousands of dollar for the speaker system and probably still do nowadays. Thanks to Bluetooth speaker that more easier to put in the car
A lot of people hated them, but I always thought it was cool. Had a girlfriend who had one and it was surprising.
Jeez that brought back memories...tanx bro😂
Dude that car is very cool!!
I actually had a 10 inch JBL sub in a Bazooka tube back in the 90s
In all honesty, round sub, round enclosure, round port. Makes perfect sense 👍
Now I'm wanting to see that, a 12" using a sphere as a enclosure and possibly a passive radiator? would look like a deathstar.
Hatchbacks, or extended cabs, amplify EVERYTHING
