True crime did not make her commit these murders. She had issues and because of that she was attracted to true crime.
Such beautiful people, remember that this happens all the time with “normal” people. True crime and horror isn’t to blame, it’s mental illness and obsession. But of course no one will care enough to fix that issue.
I'm a fan of true crime, listening to the stories daily basis. And I've found myself wondering how it actually happens that apparently normal or just a bit weird people end up murdering someone or participating in crimes against humanity. Probably there are some predispositions like certain personality traits, poor upbringing, non-existent self esteem, mental health issues, substance abuse etc. But I think there probably is some environmental component, too. During WWII completely average people, housewives and office clerks knowingly participated in genocide. There are also experiments done what happens when people are given unlimited power over others and the results were not pretty.
I think everything starts with desensitisation, people just get used to violence and inhumane acts. I grew up with such people. My father was probably a sadist or a psychopath and my mother was an enabler. Once he did not get the excitement from his acts anymore, he nudged the boundary forward. And my mother who is at first sight a decent human-being with a stable job, 4 kids, mild but fun personality, sober, went along with it.
I think this desensitisation process happens in lots of cases where someone is committing incomprehensible crimes like that one. It's something else than someone acted in a fit of rage and did something that they'll regret (or not) later. It would be interesting to know whether it's possible to turn around the desensitisation process. More socially and mentally fit people maybe might understand they have crossed some lines, but people with predispositions probably would not understand they have some screws loose.
Richard O Brian said it best: “Time is fleeting. Madness takes its toll.”
And it's stuck in my head 😂

I sense the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah 2.0 coming soon.
Before the days of the internet, Non Fiction True Crime was consumed through books and it was often the case that psychologically disturbed people who committed horrific crimes, had consumed these materials. Most people of course don't do such things but there will always be those who are unfortunately inspired. Disastrous results. 😢

My takeaway is the UK has horribly weak sentences for all crimes.
Here LWOP means LIFE.
We do have “whole life orders” where the person will be inside until they die but they are VERY rarely given out. Google the name Lucy Letby… that’s the sort of stuff you have to do to get sentenced to a whole life order over here.

The difference is like listening to it on the radio as opposed to watching it on the TV... The difference between the two would be the imagery ... But listening to it on the radio could be just as bad because one has to use their imagination and in order to do so they'd have to put their mind into that space🤷🏻♀️ the problem ISN'T TRUE CRIME , the problem is the person watching/listening to it, because they already have psychological issues Obviously🤷🏻♀️ true crime may exacerbate it, especially if they already have a predisposition to psychotic behavior... True Crime just triggered something that was already lying dormant within them.

It’s such a disgrace imo that the two alleged accomplices( the roommate and the culprits ex partner) were not looked into more. They should have been brought before justice.
As for the motivation of the killer, I think a lot complex reasons came into play. It’s normal to have a curiosity for the macabre(after all death is the only certain thing in life). It is NOT normal to be fascinated by these topic and to try to emulate heinous acts. We generally consume media that reflects things we are interested in or that we derive positive feelings from. This fact, coupled with Shaina’s involvement in sadomasochism and substance use, only brought forth her emotional instability. She was also manipulative, as Vicky stated. Manipulative people are part of the dark triad in psychology(alongside narcissists and psychopaths). These people are less likely to experience actual empathy. These malevolent qualities put others at risk of emotional and even physical harm.
Enjoying true crime, horror, BDSM or being a pagan do not make you evil or a murderer. Neglecting your mental well-being or the wellbeing of others , being hurtful and toxic to people around you is however dangerous to both you and others, so please, take care of you. And if you see any concerning changes or feelings in yourself and others, address them to a professional. People with disturbing problems sometimes use this type of media or activities to justify their behavior or as an outlet for the darkness within them…
Very well said! ✌️
I mean, your shows Annie Elise certainly could. They're presented in such a biased way that they may as well be fiction.
