  • Grand Tourer Ep5 - In this video we return to Grand Tourer to cover the final spanners turning before the first engine start after a 5+ year rebuild of a 1970 yellow ochre XY Ford Falcon. The video was filmed a few days before the car was scheduled to be shipped to MotorEx 2023 at the Melbourne Showgrounds before then being taken to the GT Nationals at Bathurst a week later. Enjoy.
Classic, Vintage, Veteran and RADwood car restorations and repairs from the vantage point of the mechanics, auto body mechanics and paint technicians that work to keep our motoring heritage on the road.
Twice weekly visits to classic auto garages featuring cars from 1886 to 1999 & including car restoration, rebuilds, repairs and restomods to anything from Aussie V8s, American muscle cars, Euro exotics, JDM, your coveted everyday runabout and more. If it's built before the turn of the century, there's every chance I'll film it.
I simply love old cars and visiting garages to chat to the people working on them. Added to that, I devour car content on youtube so I thought I'd join in and make some myself.
Hopefully you might like to come along for the journey as well.

Without doubt your best video yet. I’m so happy for the owner. I could feel his relief when the engine started. I guess I find this your best video yet is because back in 1970 I owned a XW GTHO. Still remember the reg number KPT 971. Today I’m 68 and still a petrol head. I now Own a 2021 GT mustang manual. I’ve ordered a new dark horse mustang. Which will probably be delivered early 2024. I’ve never really grown up. Still love cars. Thanks again for posting.

I’m still struggling to remember the difference. Guess that comes with growing up with them.

Plus I think if you are chasing a look like it left the factory and replicating the over spray etc would you want the car painted in acrylic instead of 2pac for a more period correct look, must be me lol I just don’t get the over spray, at the end of the day you have to look at the car yourself and I can’t see anyone saying the over spray looks great.

If you’d popped along to the GT Nats you’d have found countless grown men besides themselves at the quality of work in applying the aforementioned overspray.

Beautiful Falcon, im all for originality but the over spray under carriage just looks unfinished, like halfa job in the back yard special, all nice in Matt black or chassis black/ stone gaurd under the gaurds would finish it off. Still beautiful and congratulations to the owner and all involved, enjoy 🎉👍

Each to their own and nowadays, authenticity demands it, the marketplace demands it and ultimately it’s what the owner wanted.

I'd bet that Ford wasn't going for that look, just the way it was back then 😁

@@geoffreyplasier2796 As David states in the video, it's just the way they were, didn't matter whether it was a taxi or a GT HO, the painters painted them the same.

I drove my XY falcon 500 that was in very average condition from Ballarat to Perth no problem. Back in the 80s. Didn't go through all this fuss.

Love the attention to detail, but for me, I would prefer a car I can drive just for me.
