  • Grand Tourer Ep1 - This is the story of the restoration of this mighty 1975 pollution upgrade Ford Falcon XB coupe.
Twice weekly visits to classic auto workshops featuring cars from the veteran to RADwood eras & including car restoration, rebuilds, repairs and restomods to anything from Aussie V8s, American muscle cars, Euro exotics, JDM, your coveted everyday runabout and more. If it's built before 1999, there's every chance I'll film it.
My name is Dave and I simply l love old cars and visiting workshops to chat to the people working on them. Added to that, I devour car content on youtube so I thought I'd join in and make some myself.
Hopefully you might like to come along for the journey as well.
Dave's Workshop Tours (DWT) is on many of the socials like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Twitter
Anyway, here's the first part of my my visit to Grand Tourer in Melbourne's north. They work specifically on Ford GTs which to you and me having not grown up on them, is big Aussie V8 sedans and coupes that ruled the roost up until 1976 when the company stopped production, not bringing the badge back until the early nineties.
Just 949 of the coupes, or Hardtops as they are more formally known, were sold making them ultra rare and now extremely valuable. This one in Tango orange (is that where the UK soft drink got the name from?) will soon be making its way back to it's owner but the team have let me in for a get to know you session. I'm looking forward to when that engine first gets run. you can be sure the sound will be epic. #V8 #falconGT #xbcoupe #ford
Thanks to Dan, David and the rest of the team at Grand Tourer

Australia got and gets so many Great FORDS that we never even see in the U.S. I would LOVE to take at least a half dozen models that are Australia spec and convert them to left side drive. You Australia are THE CLEVELAND KINGS!

Noooooo. While I understand your perspective that would be sacrilege.
There are RHD cars going in the U.S.
If I shipped an American car over, I would leave it LHD as many are doing in Australia. I know there are challenges driving them on that opposite side, but you're not likely to drive a classic as an every day driver.

My father brought an XA coup it had 20,000 miles on it. In the mid 70s. Looked really good. Very quiet to drive didn’t know it was running. Until it rained. My uncle was a panel beater he went over the entire car found rust holes as big as fist holes in underneath front guards and rear panels
Windscreen was masking tap and clued in
Due to the track was rusted away. Only thing worth saving Was the engine and transmission

Who doesn't love a Falcon coupe? Back in the mid 90s you could pick these up for anywhere between $1000 for an auto 6, up to $10000 for an RPO83 XA GT. I passed up a XB GS 4sp 302 coupe in about 1994 for $3500, as I was 18 and didn't have the money.... They are big old boats and rust badly - as anything pre 1980s did... Call me a traitor, but I ended up getting into Holdens and have owned half a dozen VN to VY V8s and still own my VY Calais LS1, which is putting out around 400hp at the crank. I'm hoping to get a VF LS3 soon

My story-I was 17 in 1978 and my first car was a white XT ex-police pursuit with 302W column auto. It cost me $1800.00. I fitted twin exhaust, and 4bbl Holley carb, lowered it a bit. It was pretty stock, front bench seat, sturdy suspension, uprated springs. My mate had an LS Monaro with 308 Trimatic, black vinyl roof, twin system etc. stock but nice. Showing off one night in Sydney in the wet, aquaplaned of the road, went through a very sturdy brick fence and totalled the XT. Haven’t really thought that much about it really until I saw a video recently on a black XT GT tribute build from W.A. What might have been?? Anyhow, time marches on and one thing does surprise me and that is how the Australian Muscle Car is now such a valuable commodity. Maybe one day i will get another XT (if I can find one first up, and can I afford one!!). Cheers all!

Beautiful cars. Your passion shows in your work. Had a 68 Torino GT fastback with a 390 block with I think 428 heads. 390 stock manifolds would not fit the heads. Of all the cars I ever owned it was my favorite. Never had not one single problem with it. Not one. Wasn't quick, but was very fast.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
