Larry is a true gentleman of Australian motorsport, it's great to see the smile on the face of a man enjoying himself.
Imagine just kicking back with your old man rebuilding his cars as a legend. You’re a lucky man Jack. Loving the vids.
LP’s little chuckle when he flicks the gas pedal. This is a labour of love.
The genuine excitement on LP’s face and in his voice is awesome
Isn’t it!!
GEEZ LAZZA, the smile on your face tells a thousand stories matey. Good on ya mate. So much history there in this car and you are no doubt super proud to have her back up and going mate. Love it 250 % well done.
Cheers!!
LP looks like he is having the time of his life tinkering with the Vdub!
Doesn't he!
It’s cool for us seeing Larry’s eyes light up when you ask him questions about something. Larry has given many of us great memories and we can’t thank him enough for that and for what he has done to not only motor racing and vehicles in his time, he is a true legend and deserves every accolade he receives. Thanks again
Cheers Danny!
Larry. When I was a kid in the early 80’s I looked up to you as someone I’d like to aspire to.
I’m now 51 and your skills and passion for making stuff work still blows me away.
You’re a bloody icon..
A man tinkering around in his shed. You can't buy that sort of happiness. Good onya LP.
Cheers
You'd think Larry had won Bathurst again when he talks about this Beetle. Never seen him so happy. Great to see it going together.
Haha yeah he loves it
Never seen a bloke look so bloody happy 😃
Haha how good!
Love the fact LP's eyes light up the same when he talks about the VW or the 93 VP! Thananks Jack and Larry
Cheers John!
Hi
Larry is like a kid in a candy shop when asked questions about the vw LP is a national treasure he is Australia's answer to Richard antenborugh in the motoring industry keep up the great videos well done to you both
You wired up Larry! Awesome Jack.
Haha yes, took a while for it to arrive!!
Larry looking like a fresh faced young man ready to begin his career again!
Look at Larry chuckle when the VW fires into life :) He is my favourite Australian and there's nobody else I would rather meet and chat with for a few hours. You're a lucky lad Jack.
Cheers
I have some Cibie Oscar lights that you can have.
Oh cheers Peter, shoot me an email jack at perkinsengineering dot com dot au with your contact details and i'll forward onto LP
Also love seeing the excitement on your face. I'm also building a historical rally car (Hilman Hunter) and my wife says I have the same excitement when I'm working on the car. :)
You’ve gotta love that cheeky LP grin 👍🏻🇦🇺
😊
Shock horror 'a Ford Mustang' in the book from 1985 with Dick Johnson Greens Tuff Mustang LHD. Lmao, only joking Jack. Always good to see Larry, he is a Real character.
Jack i may have a super oscar, reach out if he still needs one.
All good thanks Ashley
Gotta love Larry's hah hah...All Good Boys !
Cheers
I love watching Larry tinkering in the shed puts a smile on my face
Cheers Darren!
Good to see hes still wrenching away after supercars, can see the passion he still has like a little kid haha
He loves it!
It's like checking in with a mad scientist. I love Larry's passion.
that little laugh at @3:53 is priceless
😂
Larry is like a kid in a lollyshop, grin from ear to ear, happy days...
Isnt he!
I’m glad you got the old man a mic. So much more enjoyable.
Holden s and VWs are what makes life amazing!
Slowly trying to improve the show! Probably need two now...
As a 75 yo I guess I've got a few years on me, so thanks for taking back to those days, LP. I can't wait to see the Vdub finished.
Cheers Ken
LP's such a legend
👍
Restoration is looking good. I had two Cibie Super Oscar’s on my first Superbug one narrow and the other wide beam and they would light up the road for almost a kilometre In front of you - they where great lights in the seventies. Doing up the bug must be bring back fond memories for you - Larry, enjoy the ride.
Cheers Paul!
Just stumbled onto this video. Geez it's great to see Larry looking so good. Loved watching him race. A true legend.. Now I'm going to have to binge watch a few more videos.
Mighty fine VW Larry
Cheers Diesel
His proud smile says it all! What an awesome piece of motoring history 👍 Well done to you both, made my day thankyou👍😎🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it
met larry years ago at hidden valley in darwin great guy likes the ladies lol
he reminds me of Doc brown out of back to the future all he needs is a flux capacitor in the VW lmao
😂😂😂
Brilliant.
Cheers
Another great Video Jack gee Larry still is on it You can tell He just loves His work He is brilliant, good luck at Bathurst You will put in a great drive as usual keep up the great work Mick.
Cheers Mick
Sheer Luxury !!
Nice work gentlemen and Opposite Lock is a brand I haven't heard of for ages, they used to produce some fine products!
Yes they did
Great stuff , Can you give us some footage of you two giving it a good thrashing before it goes on display at Bathurst ? Get a bit of dust on it for the display 🤩
So funny, I swapped a pair of 70s Cibie for a pair of 90s Cibie so i had period correct lights for my rally car only months ago.
Hi guys I'm currently away visiting family. When I get back home tomorrow night I'll do a check to see if a spare light
My book arrived, it's Amazing! Anyone who follows you should know it's been a busy time for you, great to see your new video
Cheers BapCorp, glad you enjoyed the book!
Howdy guys, love the vids!! glad to hear you're leaving the patina/stickers etc on the VW as it was when raced
Yes it's in too good of original condition to change it
Thats the V8 engine at holdens engine company display ages ago
Correct!
Jack, are you going to do another run on black colored Holden V8 slide engine shirts?
LP is definitely loving the VDub progress. Thanks
Well initially we thought we ordered enough (couple hundred!) but they've flown out the door. We will get onto getting some more, but it may not be before Christmas...
Excellent !
Cheers
Looking good.
I've got my book two weeks ago. It's absolutely awesome , best thing I've bought in years . Love the book so much . Thanks Larry and Jack
Champions 👍🏻
Great stuff, glad you like it, a lot of work went into it
@@perkinsengineering there’s no doubt about that. And that’s where the true fans are happy to pay the price. The publishing quality is exceptional and research and content is mind blowing. Glad you guys got it published in locally in Australia. Bring back to life local industries and more Aussie race cars
Make Australia great again people , we make and grow the best stuff here
Love it
Great job 👍
Cheers
Excellent,
I don’t suppose Larry wants a 58 year old apprentice😎
He knocked me back last month & I'm 52.
Haha he likes tinkering on his own 😂
Fantastic..
Cheers Martin
Fantastic guys the old Vdub is looking the business
Cheers Rod
Top job, Larry, keep it up. Cheers
Cheers
Larry might want to get in touch with Coral Taylor. Greg Rust interviewed Coral on his pod and she spoke about programming and fixing her rally monitor/tracker or whatever she called it. Coral might be able to teach him how to program it.
PS - I bought my Dad a book for his 80th. It's sitting on his dining room table and he's slowly flicking through it.
Good idea Darryl, cheers
Yes I do have super osscar
I'll forward this onto LP
Nice work L.P. Yeah I've got a few miles on me and I do remember Opposite Lock where I purchased many items. The V Dub is a great piece of history and I like that it will be on show for all to see. Too much of the past has already been lost so that's awesome. P.S. Nice work as usual at Sydney Jack and if I was in charge you'd have a full time gig. Great to have those like you who know their stuff.
Cheers Graham!
G'day Jack,
Congratulations on the book I can't wait to get my hands on one it certainly looks awesome.
Larry looks like he's been hitting the bricks by the looks of him he's come a long way since we last checked in with him.
Anyhoo thanks for sharing man.
✌🏻 Peace
Haha yeah he's pressing on!
I have 2 x 7" Super Oscars, how do I contact you?
I think you emailed us? I've forwarded your note to LP
@@perkinsengineering yes I did, couldn't find a simple way of contact that went directly to him so I tried all avenues.
Take it up the farm for a few hot laps Jack?
I think thats the plan, need to make sure no stray sparks start a bushfire out there this time of year though!!
Crikey! is it too late to get a book? loved your ol man for years!
Love the shirt. Maybe I could stitch 11 or 12 together and it might fit.
We would like to sell you 11 or 12 😂
A real rough road race car!
Don't swear 😂
Crop's are nearly ready to harvest. Will you & Larry be heading to to the farm to help out & do a bit of filming?
It's going to be right in the middle of SMP 4 and Bathurst, I (JP) wont make it for the first time in 7-8 years, but LP will have to cover for me so he unfortunately cant come to Bathurst
👍
👍
Would love to come down there and tidy up the wiring. Find a place for me to camp and all is good.
LP spent a few days already tidying up his own original handy work!
Sorry Gents, the links to purchase Super Cibies 7'' keep disappearing.... Plenty online for sale, usual online markets.
Copy that
At 3:49
LP in 😈 mode 🤣
new window rubber. same old cracked windscreen. lol. you'll have to get a video of larry driving it sometime.
Hahaha yeah we will get a video for sure
Coming along nicely, what are you going to do with it?
Drive it! But it will be in the Bathurst Museum for a little bit too
Larry, did you use a super diff? Or did you leave the gearbox stock?
The rallytrip looks very similar to the original terratrip that were built in the UK.
I would imagine that the operating instructions would be the same.
Yeah i'm sure a night on the internet would help find what he needs!
@@perkinsengineering If LP can't find any I have a set of instructions I can copy for him.
whites a bit scary for a shirt a dark grey be nice too.. did perkin family have a specific favorite colour that should be a shirt colour too ..
Nah not really, i like grey, but black is good for people who work on cars, white is very clean!
Hey Larry can you breakdown your last to first in the wet touring car drive?
In the wet? Where was that one?
@@perkinsengineering Bathurst
By any chance are they gemini coupe / wagon seats ?
Big chance! They are indeed Gemini seats
I feel like because Holden is now not in Australia it would be legal for companies to sell Holden clothing and keep the profits?
It’s a Perkins Engineering engine, using components we designed and manufactured in house, incorporating a Holden Block and Heads 👍
I can run a lathe , milling machine and a welder.😎
Nice work
Is that a 68?
First thing I noticed was why is the steering wheel on the wrong side 🤷♂️
You must be from another country 😂
It is on the right side, also known as the correct side.
Guys! Check out the Playboy-Beetle in Germany, a beautiful car full of details: ruclips.net/video/DNlJYUtVPOQ/видео.html
Pedestrian bar stops those pesky people spearing in through the windscreen..
😂😂
I think Larry has an awfully big soft spot for that VW. And, yes, I'm stating the obvious.
