I agree, especially after a 10 year hiatus,to come back out with Walk on water was incredible.Plus re releasing Doctor Doctor and lights out on it was such a treat !
This album is a gem, brilliance from first to last note, I was so excited when it came out, couldn't believe my ears! Anything Ufo with Schenker on lead is far above the whole 50 years catalogue, the chemistry with Mogg is unmatchable and the classic line up with Parker, Way and Raymond is one of the greatest band in rock history, period!
Sadly, I have to agree. Vinny is a talented and highly competent guitarist who would be accepted by many rock bands. However, Shenker is a guitar genius and an innovator and UFO miss his influence. The concert was outstanding, as expected but lacked that bit extra that Shenker can give to the band.
Walk on Water just goes to show you how great these guys are, the first album after not jamming together for so many years, the chemistry has always been there, you never know if they might shoot out another album before its all said and done, Michael Schenker's cutting edge guitar playing will last for ever, no one can match what the maestro has taught us decade after decade, he's simply the best FTR.
17 years after Micheal left . however the band, Phil Pete and and Andy continued to play together it was only the addition of Micheal on the Walk on Water album that brought the original line back together , the Band had always been playing together .
Thank you once again Michael! Fantastic composition that I will now have to torment myself and learn the rhythm guitar, then at least a few solos... God bless UFO!
Call it phrasing, timing whatever,..... I can't quantify the ability to write a lead guitar solo. Technically proficient guitarists like Eddie Van Halen can't touch the feeling that comes from the ability to insert emotion into a piece of music. It flows, it carries itself forward without effort. 'Nuff said!
Are you saying that EVH doesn't evoke emotion/feeling in his playing? That is an absurd and assinine statement if i've ever heard one. Sorry bud, but you are wrong wrong wrong on this. As if Schenker isn't technically proficient...That's nearly as laughable as saying EVH doesn't insert emotion into his playing. They are both great technically and emotionally/feelie...I will say that Schenker certainly has a unique way of creating an "emotional vortex" that carries a normal(vey good) song to astonishing, magical, otherworldly heights when he solos that is second to none...But, EVH has created some of the most powerful, bitchin, groovin' riffs that makes it seem like the Gods are speaking thru him...Once again, they are both great.
Peter Schopf when i compose a piece of music, lead or otherwise, don’t think....just play what you feel, record what you play, then fine tune it. It works for me. It took Randy Rhodes 36 straight hours to get the lead to Flying High Again like he wanted it. Don’t over think it
Damn, this song rocks, and I only discovered it by accident on RUclips. Now I want to buy the "Walk on Water" album, and every UFO album with Michael Schenker on it. This is better than anything on rock radio in the 1990s (or 2000s, or 2010s), and it's absolutely criminal that a song this great wasn't a smash hit. WTF was up with that, anyway? Did UFO have bad management or what?
The list of what to get is rather long but you can't go wrong if you get Strangers in the Night, Obsession and this album. Other non Schenker albums are worth a try because Mogg chooses good musicians and he is a great writer. the wild, willing and the innocent with Paul Chapman is good and misdeamenor with Atomik Tommy is great MOR rock with some impressive shredding [when shredding was what people did to lettuce] The later stuff of this millenium is all a bit samey; bluesy rock, but with the above first three albums you are on a winner and the other ones suggested have a lot to offer. Schenker formed his own group MSG but never found a vocalist as good as Mogg [ robin mccauly was good but the music is very american in style with little guitar solo work - however the solo work from MSG when it does appear is stunning]. graham bonnet of Rainbow fame was with him for an album Assault Attack but he did have some challenging traits - he refused to grow his hair long and mooned/flashed the audience on one occassion. He was sacked and although he is now a regular part of the MSG reunion tour he isn't as good an old singer as Schenker is an oldish guitarist.

imho. Micheal should be with UFO. When he's with them they write great songs and both him and phil should be mature enough to act like adults and not be jerks to each other. Neither MSG nor UFO sans Schenker are as good as putting them together. I love vinny moore but he belongs in Deep purple if Ritchie isn't going to bless them with his presence. Morse isn't a good fit in DP. He's way better on his own. I wonder if the album launched any guitarists like the pre 80s UFO with schenker albums did.

This track is so underrated, it's not even funny. For that matter UFO as a band is as well. There was a time that I loved these guys as much a Led Zeppelin.
This is from 96 I think. I saw this tour at the Ballard Firehouse in Seattle, WA that year I'm pretty sure. It was an incredible show for a number of reasons. The audience was spellbound and featured many Seattle rock luminaries. Members of Aline in Chains, Kurdt Vanderhoof of Metal Church. Mike Mcready, and numerous others that Most people have never heard of but are great players in their own right. There were about 500 people at the show and nearly all of them musicians. UFO Seemed like they we're enjoying themselves and signed autographs after the show. Of course the longest line was for MS. All that being said, I think everyone in the building that nite knew it was something very special. I believe the band were very flattered to have so many respected players watching them and they brought their A+ game. Wisely they stuck to Strangers in the Night almost entirely. Maybe 1 or 2 off the new album, but that was it. Trust me when I say "they were on fire"!!! They most certainly were! There were a couple of those moments where Schenker's solo elevated great songs into the mystical realm as only he can...Freakin' Unbelievable! Maybe the greatest show Ive ever seen. Rivals Pearl Jam's free show at the navy base in Seattle in 92...It certainly didn't last. If I'm not mistaken, the tour wasn't even completed. I believe it lasted only a few weeks longer and never has the entire STRANGERS lineup toured together again....I guess they played 2 sold out shows in front of 300 and not 500 people. And Simon Wright of ACDC fame was filling in for Andy Parker...I saw the 1st nite.
Great album and show seen it a few times it was good to see them back together for this too bad it did not last but not a bad song on it walk on the water rocks big time and remains timeless to this day i can listen to it for breakfast lunch and dinner and never get trier of it .
I feel extremely blessed, I got to see "the original UFO as it was this recordings line up" do a preliminary practice concert at a small venue for this album. It was in the San Fran bay area, it was one of the few they actually did in the USA. But Michael got pissed off and left the band again within weeks after it... There is some real bad blood between him and 2 others in the band that they will never be able to get past.. what a shame since some of the best tunes came from them as a group!
Damn, I saw them on their Walk On Water Tour I. Cleveland Ohio back in the mid 90s when they 1st got back together. I was too too young to appreciate this band. Still remember this song from that concert.
