A shame strangers in the night was not captured on vid, one of the top live albums of all time, UFO, twinkies who vote in the hall of fungus, just change the name To music, then you can put tiny tim in.
Best and most underrated rock band of all time. Michael Schenker never received the recognition he deserved but we all know he should have been on the list of best guitarists of all time. What a time to be growing up in the late seventies and being blessed to see UFO live and the best live show you could ever see in that era and that includes Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Rolling Stones etc.....
saw the original band with Michael at the Grizzly Rose in Golden, CO in the late 90's. He and Phil were at the bar before the show where I first saw them. Then they had a meet and greet afterwards. Just great guys. I first heard them when this album came out and I was smitten.
Wow.. what an awesome song. This band, IMO, is one of the very best ever and has not received the acclaim they deserve. This song is absolutely awesome and legendary, along the lines of Stairway to Heaven and Child in Time by Deep Purple. And this must have been right before MS joined. Big thanks to the uploader for this timeless beauty. :-)
It was actually just after he left, I believe. He was with them for the recording of this album, probably before. He may have started the tour with them at the beginning of '78 but left soon after.
It’s kind of funny, in their documentary, Beyond The Lighted Stage, Geddy Lee talked about how the guys from UFO used to give them the hardest time about the silk kimonos and epic long songs when they were touring together. I guess Rush got the last laugh, becoming a super group, selling out arenas around the world 40 years later. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of both groups, of course Rush is in another league musical technologically speaking, but Michael plays with so much feeling. Him and Lifeson can get so much emotion out of their axes, that’s my kind of guitar players. Unfortunately, UFO takes a few steps down without Michael. All of the instability with Michael, walking out in the middle of shows and crap. I’m not sure how Michael didn’t understand that hurt the fans more than the other musicians. Alcohol can make people do some stupid shit. It was that kind of behavior that hurt UFO. Had they been more stable and the musicians could get along, like the three guys in Rush, they would probably be in that conversation of being a super group and in the R&RHOF, even though they’ve been eligible for induction for many years now. I was surprised to see no Michael in this video since it was 1978. I didn’t think Michael had broken up with them so early, but then again, Michael was in and out of UFO more often than Ron Jeremy and some porn starlet.
@@RoarOfWolverine MS was bullied by PM ..really bad time…I remember vaguely 😂 they went to the hotel to find Micheal and all there that was in the room was a pile of blonde hair. I had tickets for the Hammersmith gig eagerly awaiting seeing Micheal play and you know the rest. Paul did a grand job on the night despite looking incredibly nervous.
I was at this show! UFO opened for Cheap Trick, but I was there to see Schenker! I didn’t even realize he was out of the band. Chappy did a as good a job as he could, but how does anyone step into the shoes of the Master? So wild to see this after 43 years (I can’t believe I just wrote that!), when I was just 15 years old. Thanks for posting.
I was there too - came over from Rutherford. It took me a while to figure out which date it was because I didn’t remember the date or the pairing with Cheap Trick. I always thought they opened for Nugent, in my bad memory. I do remember the deep green and blue lights during the choruses of this song (which you can’t see in the black and white footage). So glad to have found it!
Was 16 when this came out.....hit me hard & deep when i found it again!💚💙So emotionally perfect of a melody! Thank you the talent & memories! So underated!!😘
this was their "Stairway to Heaven". Alot of people hated Paul Chapman but he really was a great guitarist. No one can come up with the same chops as Michael, but Paul was pretty real.
I saw UFO in a small bar in Syracuse NY around 78-79 still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, the kicker was that Kim Simmonds came out and did two songs with them (Hellbound Train then right into Doctor Doctor) playing the guitar with a Heineken, doesn’t get any better then that
Deffenitely a very underrated band, saw them with ten years after another very underrated band from the 70's,the great ones are gone, but never forgotten

KGON, ROCK AND ROLL BLARING!..., 25 foot cord head phones in bed, volume on high, wound up like a proverbial top, UFO showed up out of nowhere and I was hooked beyond words!!! 1974 to 1980 changed my life forever, I was never the same!!! INSPIRATION SHOWED UP!!!
KMET & KLOS in Los Angeles, California, late night till' dawn with head phones, blacklight posters glaring at me, sandalwood incense burning and a Doobie of my Bros. Killer Thai stick to top the(school) night off. Don't get me wrong man, I dig Black Sabbath and I dig Zep & Pink Floyd, but when I first heard "Strangers In The Night" and discovered Michael Schenker, UFO was a whole 'nother ball game
I was very lucky and saw UFO with Schenker on one of his rare sorties back in to their ranks. There is something about the notes that he plays during the opening of the solo that I have never heard anyone else play, a precise bend that just makes that solo start, get it wrong and the solo is a waste no matter how well it is played. And then today I bought Lights Out on the original green Chrysalis label - Love to Love perfection.
Любимая песня моей любимой группы UFO !!! Спасибо Фил за прекрасное исполнение, мы любим тебя всем сердцем ! Спасибо просто за то, что ты есть !!!! ❤❤❤❤❤😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was at this show. They opened for Cheap Trick. We were disappointed to find out Shenker wasn't with them. It was their "Obsession" album tour. Nobody had heard of Chapman yet until their next album.
Bloody luv this! N couldn't get it right ,reminds me of one of my big brother,s blasting this in he's bedroom I was about 10 ! N I'm now almost 49! N it's still as good it's a CLASSIC
The reason most cant believe the absolute popularity of this band through this video is because of the missing lead guitar player . Michael SHEINKER was the main reason this band was huge, and any REAL UFO fan can always tell the difference and or the deficit of the band while running the train without the original lead conductor . Im in my late 50's and i still remember one of the best concerts i've ever seen was M.S with UFO AT Day On The Green in Oakland Ca in the late 70's or early 80's . They killed it ,ask anyone about that day ,, i think M.S was 19 years old and unmatched at the time , ill never forget that day .
Well…. This is an absolute amazing tutorial on what a great musical talent Paul Raymond was as not only a great pianist, songwriter… Oh, and Paul Chapman learning all of MS parts just months after he left the band. Phil M vocals are and will always be incredible…. Tho it is travesty that this others could not grasp what i and all my peers saw is still baffling to me but we don’t care!! UFO will in our minds still and always will be one o the best hard rock bands of the 70s and early 80s regardless and we don’t give a shit! We know the truth!! 🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶
One of the greatest songs and bands ever. Those lead vocals are heavenly. Phil is one of the greatest vocalists ever.
Yep, Phil and Schenker were a perfect match by God. Loved Lights Out and Obsession for 45 years. Love singing these Lps. ❤ Nothings topped it since!!!
I skipped my high school graduation to see this band. IT WAS WORTH IT!!!

I'm 57, and this song still reminds me of my first girlfriend in High School. I lost her...what memories!
I'am 63 now and i saw UFO ones in my country and it was absolute amazing lot of memories of the best time of my life.
Me too, my first girlfriend left me in 78'...

He didn't write the song. He was referring to the years since the concert. @@ganndeber1621

A sad day. R.I.P. Pete Way
Rip pete way ♥️🌹
With tears in my eyes my only complaint is that Mr. Micheal Schenker isn't playing the guitar.
not same without M.S.....
Man, you could say that again.
The thrill the guy had to have being hired to UFO though.
Ugh. The hate he would get for not being MS must suck. :(
@@BPB17Apparently some people in the audience would boo when he did a solo. Such a shame. Paul Chapman was a fantastic guitarist in his own right.
