You didn’t rock anybody Arlene. You got passed around bon fires like a bag of skittles while Bad Company was playing. Don’t you dare take credit for music from that era. You did nothing.
I agree. Bonnet was better on the songs in his era. Only Dio can do this. I think Bonnet's voice was not very strong and he often had issues with staying in key as compared to Dio's.
Everyone on here mocking Graham just has no idea. Alcatrazz, Impelliteri, Blackthorne...his album with Anthem, too. The man is a legend. I love Dio, too--and this is Dio's song through and through (it's carved on his gravestone), but let's get some perspective.
Who knows, maybe he`s drunk that night. Who can and is able to give that 100% every evening? Richie Blackmore is my all-time favourite guitarist, but I would say that he is in many cases quite bad in live. On the other hand nobody has made so many good rock songs than Richie. He was in key role in Purple and Rainbow.
Dio : I get the same old dreams, Dreams DREAMS same time every night , Fall to the ground Ground GROUND and I wake up Up UP UPPPP , Dio sucks dwarf effing jew
Ronnie sounded terrible singing Ozzy songs. Sammy sounded terrible singing David Lee Roth songs. On the other hand, Bruce Dickinson sounds great singing Blaze Bayley songs and Brian Johnson sounds great singing Bon Scott songs. Some singers can pull it off, some can't. If Graham Bonnet would rein it in a bit, he wouldn't do so much damage to the song. Joe Lynn Turner did a pretty decent job because he didn't try to out-sing Dio like Graham seems to be trying to do here.
Yes that's exactly how I felt. Dio's impact on heavy metal is legendary. This man is 10% as authentic as the master Ronnie James Dio. RIP, always missed.
@@donaldsalkovick396 Ok but if you're going to sing hard rock and metal, at least try to look the part. Good singer - so so performer. A+ performers are Ozzy, Bruce, Rob Halford, Dio, Plant, Bon Scott, Axl, etc... They don't look like they're about to do a sales event.
all you Graham dislikers out there, just listen to his work on Down To Earth. I've seen him with possibly the best Rainbow lineup ever, and he's right up there with DIO. Different styles. The hair, clothes, etc was in keeping with the trend into the 80's. It also gave a shockingly stark contrast to the nature of the band and its music, and so providing a much higher element of inteligencia and sophistication.
The original Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington, 1980 I have the original album with two Rainbow tracks, All Night Long and Stargazer. I have to say, that version of Stargazer with Graham singing is absolutely incredible.
I guess to some people Bonnet is a legend; I argued that he's not a legend but to some he is. So to some fans he's a legend, well remembered. I'm sure he's still alive I'm just saying that a lot of people seem to remember him but I didn't.
Someone once told Graham Bonnet not to quit his day job, and he took that to heart. He came straight from his cubicle to the show. Still an amazing performance though, fr fr.
One of the most underrated hard rock vocalists of all time. Such incredible articulation overall. This was very good here but was definitely not his best. Look out though when he did his own Rainbow pieces (eg: "All Night Long", "Since You've Been Gone" or "Lost in Hollywood") its brilliant. And after Rainbow he forms Alcatraz with Yngwie... Surprised they didn't do more together. Back to 1979. Dio has parted a year earlier because Ritchie wanted to go commercial and Dio did not. OK, I can go with that. So Ritchie (probably with encouragement from bass player Roger Glover who knew talent when he saw it; producing and directing talent for - 'Nazareth' and 'Judas Priest' among others) gets Graham Bonnet, a brilliant singer who fits Ritchie's commercial bill, well almost! Now remember this is Ritchie Blackmore we are talking about. Basically (and this is more or less coming from Ritchie himself) he cans Graham after a year because Graham won't grow his hair long! As far as I'm concerned, Rainbow was never less than "Ritchie Blackmore's" Rainbow as their debut album depicted. He always wants to play God in whatever venture he is in and he didn't care about who was in or out (and there were many!). I don't care how big his reputation is, I would NEVER work with him If I were genuinely good enough to do so. He is a great player, though his tone has always been way too thin. What always shocked me was the fact that Roger Glover actually joined Rainbow in '79 after Ritchie (and ONLY) Ritchie kicked him out of Deep Purple in 1973! But Really Dio to Bonnet to - well who else would you want? Joe Lynn Turner (Bonnet's successor) was and remains a capable and respectable singer but is not in the mix with Dio and Bonnet. No chance. At this point grey skies replace Rainbow and they are done, IMO.
@@robr.7283 He is now but not in the 70s heyday when the Mark 2 lineup was still highly respected....and still are to this day. I think that's he's trying to say 2 out of 5 of the Mark 2 lineup that most consider the "real" Deep Purple.

I love Graham Bonnet. Some songs just have a specific identity. One of the most difficult things to do as a new lead singer in an established band is to cover their previous hits to the fans' satisfaction.
I was at this concert. The Scorpions opened up. It was magical. BTW, no one was hating on Graham Bonnett. This was Ritchie Blackmore's band. We all knew it. Cozy Powell Roger Glover Don Airy. We all knew we were seeing the best band at that time. Not as famous as Zeppelin or Sabbath or Purple, but we got to see Ritchie Blackmore make no mistake about it. He is God. Top 3 in the world. Hendrix Eddie Van Halen and Ritchie Blackmore. These were the 3 we all knew who was truly the best. It's not the most famous like Jimmy Page saw him too. He can't touch Blackmore live. That's an honest truth, as some of us have seen it then. Cozy Powell was the best drummer in the world on his own at that time.

I’ve learned two things. This Graham fellow sang for Rainbow and did a damn fine job. And this isn’t the only time Ritchie has done the false start to this tune. Found a video of him playing with Dio where he does the Lazy/ragtime medley as an intro.
Found this video and thought
“huh, neat, didn’t know another guy sang for rainbow”.
2 years and a lot of weed…
This guys voice is amazing!
are you tone deaf?
@@blackfalcon6.45 Same is true of his version of Dream On.
@@blackfalcon6.45 And Bonnet has songs that Dio couldn't perform nearly as good
You're joking, right? He's off pitch several times in the first verse alone!
Bonnet is slaughtering the song ;)
Every incarnation of this band!! Every singer was very different from the last. Completely changed musical direction several times. I have found something I love in all of it.
Bonnet has one of the strongest voices in rock, while i like the guy and he does a solid job, this is clearly a Dio song.
Agree
I THOUGHT GRAHM ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT!!! A REAL ATTITUDE!!!!
This dude sounds fucking awesome
Ronnie J. Dio had the best pipes!! Whether he was singing for Sabbath,Rainbow or Dio,HE WAS THE MAN!!
RIP to the man -The Voice in Hard Rock / Metal.
@@metalmike570 Amen! Dio maybe the greatest metal singer I’ve ever heard . And I know it is an opinion but it’s the most powerful and gifted vocals I can think of . And I’ve heard them all.
@@salt27dogg He's a favorite to many but his time has come. I liked Layne Staley too, he has a lot of power and was taken way too soon. There are many that are great and some are gone; I like to go to concerts it's that time of the year again. I have some lined up, and these singers aren't where Dio was in level. I am going to Iron Maiden in October and Bruce is still good, glad I'm going!
Wasn't Ronnie also in a band called elf at 1 point?
I’m a huge dio fan and this is incredible! Great vocal range. Love. GB. The band kills it too !
Really great. Graham sings so great here. With power.
Wow. I've only heard Dio sing this song. And then I saw the dude in the thumbnail and thought it would be cute to hear someone else sing it.
Not too shabby.
The guitar work is on POINT!!!😊😊
WE ROCKED IT! The '70's were awesome! One such group was Rainbow! That is to say ONE SUCH GROUP! There were so many! They evolved into other groups but their beginnings were in the '70's. MY generation and the GREATS of that time
You didn’t rock anybody Arlene. You got passed around bon fires like a bag of skittles while Bad Company was playing. Don’t you dare take credit for music from that era. You did nothing.
I love his voice! Powerhouse!!
I had the good fortune to do a gig supporting Graham a good few years ago and he was just superb. I also love his stuff with MSG.
I like Graham but this is definitely Dio's song.
Dio's. Spanish for God...(unapostrophed...) Best of both worlds.
by day he is a taxman by night he is a DIO cover band who should cover iron maiden ssongs
Every song is Dio's song.
I agree. Bonnet was better on the songs in his era. Only Dio can do this. I think Bonnet's voice was not very strong and he often had issues with staying in key as compared to Dio's.
This is Ritchie Blackmore's song no matter who is singing.
Give the guy a break, that's like comparing ozzy to dio with sabbath, two different animals. Graham can sing very well, give him a break.
Hey Hey Hey Hey.....one break comin' up!........David Lee Roth.
@@metalmike570 Early on when v.h was still good. Yes Sir.
I prefer Graham over dio
Couldn't agree more. You can tell this when you listen to his other (non-Rainbow) work
agree
I love Graham and Dio…and Ritchie is my all time favorite 🎸player 🙌🏼.. I was in 7 th grade in 1979..
Everyone on here mocking Graham just has no idea. Alcatrazz, Impelliteri, Blackthorne...his album with Anthem, too. The man is a legend.
I love Dio, too--and this is Dio's song through and through (it's carved on his gravestone), but let's get some perspective.
👍👍
He sounds great, different dress. It’s good though
@Joseph Cocchiola It's Dio's song all the way, but I love Graham, too.
He probably would have refused. It's songs like that made him quit, haha.
@Joseph Cocchiola The Turner albums have their moments. "Fire Dance" is great. I dig the Dougie White album, too.
One of the best riffs ever.
My brother was a bouncer at the Capital Theatre back then. He is going to Their 50 yr reunion in Sept. Amazing how many big bands played there
Guys, listen to Bonnett's work on Schenker's ASSAULT ATTACK album. Altogether different sort of rock singer.
Hell yeah Man!
Even on "No Parole" Alcatrazz
Who knows, maybe he`s drunk that night. Who can and is able to give that 100% every evening? Richie Blackmore is my all-time favourite guitarist, but I would say that he is in many cases quite bad in live. On the other hand nobody has made so many good rock songs than Richie. He was in key role in Purple and Rainbow.
he is really trying hard, not the easiest song for him to sing
R Keeney love that album RKeeney
Powerful voice!
Graham somehow has a stronger voice today in 2022 and much more power than he did back in the day. How is that even possible?
Same with Glenn Hughes
er traf kaum einen Ton richtig, die Technik heute erlaubt, dass er ich selbst besser hört, denn Singen kann er er
A great jam session, one of the great classic rock songs.
I had no idea Jim Carrey had such a great vocal range.
Lmao
i was just about to say something like that lol
"Yes in Deedly Dee ,Silver Moon Tane ,Baby"
Hilarious lmao
It's Johnny Cash..
just. ugh. 🎉
I was blasting this in a hotel in Garmisch while on a ski trip with my GF in 1982. We never did go skiing! What a great week!
I’m trying to imagine Dio singing Since You’ve Been Gone
No doubt would be great!!!
Wouldnt have been as good. Kind of like this isnt as good as Dio.
Dio : I get the same old dreams, Dreams DREAMS same time every night , Fall to the ground Ground GROUND and I wake up Up UP UPPPP , Dio sucks dwarf effing jew
@@carmineredd1198 he wasn't Jewish you fucking moron.
This makes me miss Dio even more.
Yes that's exactly how I felt. Dio's impact on heavy metal is legendary. This man is 10% as authentic as the master Ronnie James Dio. RIP, always missed.
@@mikeponzio1587 what an idiotic statement. Dio was a sawed off elf with a decent voice Graham himself was twice as good.
@@metalmike570 fair enough....but his appearance isn't that important to me, his talent is
@@donaldsalkovick396 👍
It's great to hear singers share songs. It's not all about one thing.
all you Graham dislikers out there, just listen to his work on Down To Earth.
First time i listen to this guy, and i have to say i like what i hear, good stage perfomance.
Arguably one of the most electrifying masterpieces of rock.Even after all these years I still want to headbang
It's hard to imagine him singing with such power, when you hear him singing a love song in his previous band the 'marbles'
Anyone know of a live Graham Bonnet Rainbow version of this tune with better audio?
Men of the Silver Mountain, Graham will singing this song😪but after Ronnie, it’s no possible, RONNIE is the BEST, the KING and love this💋
@Eddie M Also, Blackmore's best music outside of Rainbow with Ronnie is Deep Purple.
or man on the silver mountain as well
Magic is in the edge of reality ! This is Ms.Blackmore
The original Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington, 1980 I have the original album with two Rainbow tracks, All Night Long and Stargazer. I have to say, that version of Stargazer with Graham singing is absolutely incredible.
Igualmente tengo el álbum que mencionas, y efectivamente contiene esas dos canciones con muy buena interpretación de Graham Bonett
Graham sounds pretty bad on this song, but when he does material written for him, he kicks ass. He's actually one of my favorite 80s metal singers.
John Kangas Correct!! He Wails On “ All Night Long” Stargazer?? Not so much
Wow. Your own tongue in your ass.
800...
Blackmore played the song too fast like he always did live. The studio version is much better. Gotta agree that this is Dio's song though.
Blackmore's on fire ! Great band !
Notice a rare thing : we could see a Roger Glover without his hat !! 👏
His performance @ the 1980 Monsters of Rock was phenomenal…… killer voice- so unique
Saw them open with this tune Johnson City Tenn 79
Did anybody notice 3/5 of Deep Purple on stage?
Maybe 2/5ths
@@stevenjohnston2263 Don't forget Don Airey, so 3/5th is right now.
I don't count Don Airey.
@@stevenjohnston2263 Well he is in Deep Purple so whether you count it or not it us true.
@@robr.7283 He is now but not in the 70s heyday when the Mark 2 lineup was still highly respected....and still are to this day. I think that's he's trying to say 2 out of 5 of the Mark 2 lineup that most consider the "real" Deep Purple.
Simply the best rock singer
Absolutely brilliant and draw dropping. This sends a chill down my spine. This is what pure rock and roll is all about. A big shout out to the cinematographer. Black and white and classic rock. a real classic!
No kidding.
This singer is great. And there’s a lot great rainbow songs🌈❤
I love Graham Bonnet. Some songs just have a specific identity. One of the most difficult things to do as a new lead singer in an established band is to cover their previous hits to the fans' satisfaction.
Always amazed me how he can sing like that 👍 ok he never wore flared denims with stars embroidered on them but his voice was phenomenal
I was at that show, Uriah Heep was ome of the opening acts along with a band called No Dice !!!

Reading the disses before they broke into the song I thought he would suck, this guy can sing pretty damm good !!
Saw this tour in Indy. The WHOLE BAND rocked!
2:48 when the singer looks at you with the “Brooo slow the fk down!” Look 😂🤷♂️
This is my first time seeing it live and I like this way better than the studio recording.
I was there!... WOW!.. Great to see this!... Thank You!.... :)
Blackmore so unique
Graham is sing this full chest voice
Wow
Excellent. Great befitting ode to a great player. Exhilarating !
One of Blackmore's greatest songs!

Ritchie probably made more money going mainstream but people still listen and remember the Dio stuff more.
My brother took me to a rainbow concert when I was about 13 or 14 years old circa 1978 or 79 near or in Chicago
