Wow. I've only heard Dio sing this song. And then I saw the dude in the thumbnail and thought it would be cute to hear someone else sing it. Not too shabby.
One of the most underrated hard rock vocalists of all time. Such incredible articulation overall. This was very good here but was definitely not his best. Look out though when he did his own Rainbow pieces (eg: "All Night Long", "Since You've Been Gone" or "Lost in Hollywood") its brilliant. And after Rainbow he forms Alcatraz with Yngwie... Surprised they didn't do more together. Back to 1979. Dio has parted a year earlier because Ritchie wanted to go commercial and Dio did not. OK, I can go with that. So Ritchie (probably with encouragement from bass player Roger Glover who knew talent when he saw it; producing and directing talent for - 'Nazareth' and 'Judas Priest' among others) gets Graham Bonnet, a brilliant singer who fits Ritchie's commercial bill, well almost! Now remember this is Ritchie Blackmore we are talking about. Basically (and this is more or less coming from Ritchie himself) he cans Graham after a year because Graham won't grow his hair long! As far as I'm concerned, Rainbow was never less than "Ritchie Blackmore's" Rainbow as their debut album depicted. He always wants to play God in whatever venture he is in and he didn't care about who was in or out (and there were many!). I don't care how big his reputation is, I would NEVER work with him If I were genuinely good enough to do so. He is a great player, though his tone has always been way too thin. What always shocked me was the fact that Roger Glover actually joined Rainbow in '79 after Ritchie (and ONLY) Ritchie kicked him out of Deep Purple in 1973! But Really Dio to Bonnet to - well who else would you want? Joe Lynn Turner (Bonnet's successor) was and remains a capable and respectable singer but is not in the mix with Dio and Bonnet. No chance. At this point grey skies replace Rainbow and they are done, IMO.
@@donaldsalkovick396 His style and tone I love. Sure technically there’s probably better guitarists. To my ears Blackmore is great. Nothing flashy. Listen to some Rainbow songs the solos are great.

Put this way. I live in the middle of the USA. I've seen Rainbow 4 times to date. Each time different singers. All great and thats the evolution of supergroups change! 🌼🎼🎶🎵🎩
I love Graham Bonnet. Some songs just have a specific identity. One of the most difficult things to do as a new lead singer in an established band is to cover their previous hits to the fans' satisfaction.
all you Graham dislikers out there, just listen to his work on Down To Earth. I've seen him with possibly the best Rainbow lineup ever, and he's right up there with DIO. Different styles. The hair, clothes, etc was in keeping with the trend into the 80's. It also gave a shockingly stark contrast to the nature of the band and its music, and so providing a much higher element of inteligencia and sophistication.
I agree. Bonnet was better on the songs in his era. Only Dio can do this. I think Bonnet's voice was not very strong and he often had issues with staying in key as compared to Dio's.
Someone once told Graham Bonnet not to quit his day job, and he took that to heart. He came straight from his cubicle to the show. Still an amazing performance though, fr fr.

Graham is not DIO, but he is good in this video. Blackmore is awesome. Fuck the haters.
+Andreas Kvale Yup, fuck 'em.This sounds pretty damn good to me! Not perfect, Blackmore's had better nights, but it's far from sloppy.
totally agree with you
i know its all opinions...i dont like his voice at all...not much quality at all a lot of screaming barley in key
Nobody can match Blackmore, neither Ronnie Jamies Dio, ever and never.
a key is a bit too high for Graham's voice to be at his best, i think. like Coverdale.
It's hard to imagine him singing with such power, when you hear him singing a love song in his previous band the 'marbles'
Anyone know of a live Graham Bonnet Rainbow version of this tune with better audio?
Powerful voice!
One of the best riffs ever.
I was there!... WOW!.. Great to see this!... Thank You!.... :)
Saw this tour in Indy. The WHOLE BAND rocked!
I can listen to Ritchie play guitar all day long. No one even close.
You must not listen to any other guitarist. What he played was nothing special
@@donaldsalkovick396 His style and tone I love. Sure technically there’s probably better guitarists. To my ears Blackmore is great. Nothing flashy. Listen to some Rainbow songs the solos are great.
@@johnoberle9750 fair enough I can agree with that. And I will listen to some more Rainbow
@@johnoberle9750 yeh he a pioneer of metal or hard rock one might say. Many of the newer more technical guitar players when asked usually will tell you they studied the styles of Blackmore and the other greats of the time. Yngwie Malmsteen is one that comes right to mind having mentioned Blackmore as an influence on several occasions.
Hendrix
This dude sounds fucking awesome
it doesnt matter how his hair is.. he is a singer its his voice and feelings. why be critical of his hair style?
he has no feeling, and just yells . Fucking garbage. and yes, image does matter. guy looks like a fucking dork
Steve Burk Bonnet looks and sings very good! His James Dean style is badass!
Steve Burk Bonnet quit Rainbow..... get your story straight.
Thats the thing I love how he has his unique style in this genre. Think about it... everyone tried to look rough this guy got his own identity with a suit and short hair aswell as his sun glasses and did it so well. It works it looks great and he has a stellar voice.
his voice sucks. he's just yelling.
such a great voice and awesome performance of Ritchie back in those days, he mafe of Rainbow a live jamming band
Put this way. I live in the middle of the USA. I've seen Rainbow 4 times to date. Each time different singers. All great and thats the evolution of supergroups change! 🌼🎼🎶🎵🎩
This singer is great. And there’s a lot great rainbow songs🌈❤
I THOUGHT GRAHM ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT!!! A REAL ATTITUDE!!!!
Bonnet has one of the strongest voices in rock, while i like the guy and he does a solid job, this is clearly a Dio song.
Agree
Seen rainbow in Flint Michigan way back , loudest concert I ever had been to. And I had been to a lot back then. 2 every weekend in the 70s.
I love Graham Bonnet. Some songs just have a specific identity. One of the most difficult things to do as a new lead singer in an established band is to cover their previous hits to the fans' satisfaction.
Very different vocalists. But, about half way through, he REALLY starts ruling. This was awesome!
Saw them open with this tune Johnson City Tenn 79
all you Graham dislikers out there, just listen to his work on Down To Earth.
It's great to hear singers share songs. It's not all about one thing.
Graham somehow has a stronger voice today in 2022 and much more power than he did back in the day. How is that even possible?
Same with Glenn Hughes
er traf kaum einen Ton richtig, die Technik heute erlaubt, dass er ich selbst besser hört, denn Singen kann er er
This is my first time seeing it live and I like this way better than the studio recording.
I like Graham but this is definitely Dio's song.
Dio's. Spanish for God...(unapostrophed...) Best of both worlds.
by day he is a taxman by night he is a DIO cover band who should cover iron maiden ssongs
Every song is Dio's song.
I agree. Bonnet was better on the songs in his era. Only Dio can do this. I think Bonnet's voice was not very strong and he often had issues with staying in key as compared to Dio's.
This is Ritchie Blackmore's song no matter who is singing.
LEGENDARY COZY POWELL ON DRUMS. RITCHIE- MASTER OF THE STRATOCASTER
Magic is in the edge of reality ! This is Ms.Blackmore
Someone once told Graham Bonnet not to quit his day job, and he took that to heart. He came straight from his cubicle to the show. Still an amazing performance though, fr fr.
Ronnie J. Dio had the best pipes!! Whether he was singing for Sabbath,Rainbow or Dio,HE WAS THE MAN!!
RIP to the man -The Voice in Hard Rock / Metal.
@@metalmike570 Amen! Dio maybe the greatest metal singer I’ve ever heard . And I know it is an opinion but it’s the most powerful and gifted vocals I can think of . And I’ve heard them all.
@@salt27dogg He's a favorite to many but his time has come. I liked Layne Staley too, he has a lot of power and was taken way too soon. There are many that are great and some are gone; I like to go to concerts it's that time of the year again. I have some lined up, and these singers aren't where Dio was in level. I am going to Iron Maiden in October and Bruce is still good, glad I'm going!
Wasn't Ronnie also in a band called elf at 1 point?
Everyone on here mocking Graham just has no idea. Alcatrazz, Impelliteri, Blackthorne...his album with Anthem, too. The man is a legend.
I love Dio, too--and this is Dio's song through and through (it's carved on his gravestone), but let's get some perspective.
👍👍
He sounds great, different dress. It’s good though
@Joseph Cocchiola It's Dio's song all the way, but I love Graham, too.
He probably would have refused. It's songs like that made him quit, haha.
@Joseph Cocchiola The Turner albums have their moments. "Fire Dance" is great. I dig the Dougie White album, too.
Fantastic work of Graham Bonnet with both Rainbow and MSG.
This will always be one of Dios best tunes. R.I.P. Ronnie
I loved everything in this video.
You know that intro was blistering LOUD !
2:48 when the singer looks at you with the “Brooo slow the fk down!” Look 😂🤷♂️
Men of the Silver Mountain, Graham will singing this song😪but after Ronnie, it’s no possible, RONNIE is the BEST, the KING and love this💋
@Eddie M Also, Blackmore's best music outside of Rainbow with Ronnie is Deep Purple.
or man on the silver mountain as well
Oh hes a master at his craft in his own way. Talented
great performance, thanks incredible how ritchie use the selector of all three coils
Blackmore so unique
Graham is sing this full chest voice
Wow
Simply the best rock singer
Still gives me goosebumps
I was blasting this in a hotel in Garmisch while on a ski trip with my GF in 1982. We never did go skiing! What a great week!
Ritchie’s featured instrumental (“solo”) is short but epic. Ritchie is a true stratomaestro and working the tone, pickup selected and tremo (whammy). Cozy is (R.I.P) is an absolute beast.
Saw this tour about 2 months before this show ( Spectrum in Philly). They opened for BOC.
