Amateurs, take notice: You are witnessing the real blood and guts of Rock and Metal. Yes the real Mccoy. This song and the songs of the past have something that many musicians today forget. This guy gave life and a soul to his music whenever he sang. This man was born with a destiny to be a true Rock GOD!. True and Free, Forever in our hearts.
He has his own very strong style. For me, Tony Martin was much better. Just as powerful but cleaner. Dip is too dramatic for me. I got v to be in a particular mood to listen to him. Tony Martin sound is pure classic rock and timeless.
Ronnie James Dio is clearly the most professional metal artist that I know of within the past 35 years. He treats his audience like his extended family. He goes right to the front and touches their fingers moving from right to left. When he sang this song at the end he went: "I'm the man, I'm the man, We're all the man on the Silver Mountain!" He knows and acknowledges with all humility that is fearless that he wouldn't be singing to anyone without you, the audience. Such class, so much so that his Facebook page has deep loyal followers and I'm proud to be one of them. Yes we miss him but we know he is our Ronnie into infinity and we will see and hear him soon.
Ok Shadowangel. I an not one to ever correct or tell someone’s opinion is wrong, because an opinion is someones belief and what they believe. With that said, He was the nicest guy. Fighting happens in a band. He was classy and so down to earth. Same guy before he got famous. I have personal experience to say this. Trust me on that. There are plenty of assholes. RJD was NOT one of them. He was accused of being too nice and let things go that he shouldn’t have. I just had to write this, because your statement was way off. If your opinion was that he was an asshole, so be it. Fact is different from opinion, and fact was he was a great guy.
Tony Dwaine - You obviously wrote your response in starlight, the words came out real and scared little Shadowangel off, as their post has apparently been deleted. Nice work, brother! Two horns up!!
One of the things that I love about Dio is the ay that he was always gesticulating when he sang. He was up there telling stories... that's what I realize now. Not just singing lyrics, but actively trying to tell stories and create imagery. Just a fantastic performer.
I have the same things. He have a big imsginery and probably lived by this Worda that he sings in a moment so this is do powerfull . He create by voice reality.
Ronnie James Dio (and Ritchie Blackmore) never had a better line-up since Rainbow in 1976-1977 when they recorded Rising. To me, Tarot Woman remains the most emblematic heavy rock song ever. Rest in Peace Ron, we'll all miss you, but we'll never forget you.
No true metal / rock fan would have give this a thumbs down. This was before the time of gimics.. when true, pure talent matterd, and Ronnie and the band had it in bucket loads. R.I.P
Lee Thomas Lee, let's agree to remove dislikes from all posts going forward to keep away those incompetent and ignorant ass holes who don't appreciate good music and a legendary singer like "RONNIE JAMES DIO" 👍🤔🤘👍🤔🤘💥👍🤘💥💥🤘
the man the legend i,m friends with jeff willoughby bassist with hybrid ice and worked with Ronnie in his early days he said how can such rock come from such a small guy haha
This band is utterly amazing, the drummer is sooo f'n good, the lead guitar, wow. An amazing driving, relentless beat. That was one lucky studio audience. I've watched this many, many times, real hard rock at it's best.
Vivian just slayed almost every 80s guitar player with his attack and legato picking. A style he falls into which is a mix of Gary Moore and Blackmore.
See, this is what is so different about legends like Dio. He sounds *great* live. There are so many singers that let me down when I hear them live. But Dio sounds like he's in the studio! (except for the thousands of fans screaming in the background of course. )
roschler - You hit the nail on the head with your comment. Ronnie is one of the very few singers who I thought was often better live than in the studio. To sing like RJD even one time is a feat, yet the man did it for decades with uncanny consistency! He was incredibly gifted, to say the least.
THE Only band I have ever seen (Sadly never saw Dio live...) that is studio clean when performing live is AC/DC. Saw them twice both times with Brian AND Phil; '81 and 2010. While they sometimes mess with tempo...for the most part every song is played as if in studio (faithfully). Song ends, house lights go down....you can almost hear the needle tracking...and the next song starts up. Even Angus' solo, which could lead into ANY AC/DC song...comes to a close...house lights go down....you can almost hear the needle tracking...and the next song starts up.
No one will ever come close to Ronnie the man on the silver mountain is now the man on the golden mountain too will be up there with you someday always in my heart
Nobody had the voice like Ronnie James Dio and seemed like Ronnie was a great guy he had one of the best voices in rock metal hard rock his voice.range was fantastic and yes he was the little guy with the huge and powerful voice does not matter if he was in Sabbath or Dio he was fantastic and the black Sabbath heaven and hell was fantastic I could not see Ozzy singing it Ronnie may you forever be chasing dragons in the great gig in the sky you are the knight and up the irons Ronnie you where the voice of metal you will always be missed by you great fans around the world up the irons maiden manic🤘🌟🌟🎵🎵🎼🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✨✨✨✨
After seeing this in 83, I have spent plenty of time searching for every live version that Dio did of it and I have to say that Vivian rules, this was definitely the best solo I have heard him play for it.
Back then I was 14. I had this on VHS, and had Vivian Campbell on my wall with 4 other favorite guitarists.. His riffage and the way he switched to and from that X2N in the neck spot, affected me! Killer performance, thanks for sharing! Dio was the Man,............."on the silver mountain!"
Vinny Appice is killin it on Drums - his brother is also a bad ass drummer- rock gods like this will never be seen again - RJD is the Fn best metal singer ever !
I was fortunate enough to see this lineup of Dio's band three times and the first time was in December 1983 at the Saenger Theater, a small venue in New Orleans. It was a night of highlights but 'Man on the Silver Mountain' was, for me, the most epic moment. (They also did a killer version of 'Heaven and Hell'.) RIP Ronnie. Thanks for the music and the memories.
I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and good fortune when I go back an listen to my music legends / heroes. Even after 41 years, this amazing talent! I seriously doubt anyone will be able to say that about pop stars over the past 20 years.
seen dio a couple times back in the day, on this holy diver tour as a matter of fact... one of the best live performances i've ever seen, van halen, rush, and kiss were great too, but dio was incredible.
Dio and Rush on another level from VH and Kiss. The former because of his vocals and Rush, well, is Rush. So much to say there. VH and Kiss were fun rock for the sake of rock.
I remember seeing this when it came out. This is what made me a Dio fan. I then went out and got Holy Diver, and then I got his albums over the years with RAinbow, Sabbath, and Elf. I was fortunate to see him at the Roseland theater back in the 90s and he put on a slamming live show! The guy could sing his ass off. RIP Mr. Dio, I know you're up there singing with the greats!
Que saudade de você, Ronnie Dio... Tive a oportunidade de assistir a quatro shows em São Paulo, inesquecíveis... Dio foi tão amável comigo e com todos os fãs... Só ele mesmo poderia ser assim, tão especial... Love you forever, Ronnie James Dio... ❣️🤘
ONE WORD FOR THESE GUYS - "PHENOMENONAL!" RONNIE'S ENGAGEMENT WITH THE CROWD - HIS ADORING FANS - IS JUST AMAZING! I'VE SEEN HIM IN OTHER VIDEOS TOO IN WHICH HE'S OFF THE FRONT OF THE STAGE, SHAKING FANS HANDS, AND RUFFLING THEIR HAIR, DURING THE FIRST NUMBER! AMAZING MAN WHO IS A LIVING LEGEND AND A TRUE INSPIRATION TO ALL MUSICIANS - NOT JUST VOCALISTS BUT EVERY INSTRUMENT! LONG LIVE ROCK AND RONNIE JAMES DIO!
I can't tell you how devastated I was when I heard he had passed. I discovered him with Sabbath, and researched him to find his other bands. So, I began buying all his stuff with them. I only saw him live ONCE, but I'm grateful I have. What a voice and performer. Love RJD.
I was in Airzona and somebody called in and requested man on the silver mountain, neon knights and holy diver. The DJ didnt even notice they were all Dio songs until after they were finished. Best 20 minutes of radio ever :)
I loved Vivian Campbell after the lead at 2:41, he keeps the volume level at the same point when he rolls back into the verse. Awesome!! God bless RJD in heaven.
Слушаешь и восхищаешься этим певцом. Манера исполнения потрясающая . Откуда только берется такой голос. ДИО ты потрясающе пел и уважал своих. Своих поклонников . Спасибо за твои песни
I just heard Dios singing for the first time since the eighties and the first song I heard, I didn't like. But when I heard him sing with Black Sabbath I was blown away. His voice is incredible and turned my whole opinion of him around. He has more range than Ozzy even!
Played my buddies older sisters 8 track of Black Sabbath- Master Of Reality at 10 years old so many times, we wore out the tape. Then, a couple years later and Heaven And Hell comes out. I immediately became a Dio Disciple! H&H became my favorite Sabbath album. Saw him for the first time on the Dream Evil tour and to this day, I say it was the most mind blowing concert I've seen (never saw Pink Floyd or Alice Cooper though). Always loved Dio's rendition of Man On The Silver Mountain better than Rainbows'! A little bit more "metalled" up!
I only got to see Dio once, but it was an experience that has stuck with me the last 23 years. Yngwie Malmsteen opened for him at the Allentown fairgrounds in PA, and it was an odd pairing, but the show was worth it's weight in gold. And just the night before, I went to see Death Angel, War And Peace, and Forbidden only a few blocks away at the now-gone Airport Music Hall. 2 great nights of metal!
Man !, what a voice. !.This man sang with heart and soul and he will not be matched ever !!!!...I get goosebumps when he sings. Long Live the Man on the Silver Mountain Ronnie James Dio.

So Def Leppard is rock and roll heaven? Don't think so. I saw them live in Birmingham Alabama and he didn't look miserable that night either.
One of the most professional....humble....cordial....person that ever graced THE HEAVY METAL STAGE! By the same token.....a beast....a terror....and a threat to all those who "think" they can sing!!!
I think 1983 was Dio in his absolute prime. And this lineup was great and I loved him with the Sabbath boys, too. RIP, Dio. \m/

I doubt any amateurs are listening to Dio. 😂
Bad ass perfection grew up on this real music…
Too damn much lip-syching and auto - tune for the morons today.

Salute to Vivian Campbell,🍺
I remember adding him to my favorite guitarists list after seeing Dio in concert for the Last in Line tour
Once upon a time there was a little man with a HUGE voice and they called him RONNIE! Thank you and rest in peace...
