    Back when Vivian Campbell was a guitar god! He played heavy, and he rocked hard! Now he plays tunes like "Pour Some Sugar On Me!" He has seriously become pussified! What a rock n' roll tragedy!

    • @drewper73
      @drewper73 9 лет назад +3

      bubhub64 I think they call it "selling out"! It's kinda sad really. The only material of his that will ever truly be celebrated is the stuff he did with DIO (Holy Diver, The Last In Line, Sacred Heart). He kept switching bands (Whitesnake, Def Leppard) seemingly getting bigger and bigger but during all that time only recorded one album with Def Leppard. When he joined Whitesnake, they had already released the album that launched them into celebrity status. He never recorded a note for that band; only toured. After Steve Clark died, Vivian joined Def Leppard in '92 but only played on one album, Euphoria, that came out in '99 and something tells me it sucks. I remember finding out that he wasn't in DIO anymore and that Craig Goldy, from glam-rock band Giuffria, was the new guitarist. I was bummed out for sure because I was a fan of his playing. I bought the first album without Vivian Campbell, Dream Evil, and I actually liked it but that's as far as my DIO story goes.

    Man, 30+ years later and I still can't get enough of metal. Live in the middle of country/western hell and just shake my head in bewilderment. To each their own I guess. Give me Dio, Judas Priest, the Scorpions, ACDC, Metallica, Dokken, Van Halen (David Lee Roth), Rush, Pink Floyd, and the rest. Dio's voice ranks among the top 5 in metal in my book. Died too young.

      robot x625 It's ok. You know his music now. Ronnie's music will live on forever. How I met Dio and his band members. Back in the 90's MTV was hosting a contest for the best basement bands, nation wide. Our local band won that concert. Somehow Ronnie heard them and had his people get in contact with our little band. The bands had to have their own music. No cover bands allowed. He really dug them. Ronnie was booked to play in our city and sent several tickets and backstage passes. At that time I was dating the bassist brother and he took me to the show and then backstage. The name of our band was "Touch".
      Ronnie and I sat on a couch and talked about Greek mythology. "I'm Greek"..He was really into that stuff. It was like I was having a conversation with a long time friend. He was such a kind man. We hugged and I left with my boyfriend so they could talk business. He really believed in our band. I'll never forget him. Out of all the band's I've met, with the exeption of Dimebag, not a one touched my heart like Ronnie did.

    My first concert back in 85 or 86 I think. Armoured Saint, Dokken and Dio. It was a triple bill show. I was God smacked. All three bands were in their primes and metal was growing bigger by the week. Before that show, I was into The Police, The Cars, and that type of pop music was all I had really heard. Just what was on the radio. But after that show, I was a metal head. Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden, Priest and all the big Glam bands like Motley Crue. I saw 18 concerts in the summer of 86. Damn, those were good days.

When Dio was at the height of their popularity I was 11 or 12 years old and there was absolutely no way that my parents would've let me go to a concert 90 miles away at that age, so I never saw Dio either. I like AC/DC but it's a similar story with them plus the fact that I'm not a huge AC/DC fan without Bon Scott so I didn't even try to see them. I do get what you're saying though. I did get to see KISS, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Tesla, Metallica (...And Justice For All tour), Queensryche, Suicidal Tendencies, Rush, Yes, etc.

      Hell bro, you didn't even need to be close. In the arena that used to hold rock concerts back in my day (the 80's) you could be as far back as the seats went, and it still sounded fucking killer. You could even be in the back row behind the bands, and it sounded fantastic...When Dio came with just Dokken, the second time, it was the LOUDEST and best sounding show I have ever been to still to this day. Lynch's guitar tone that night was un-fucking real. And rightfully so, as he was pushing about 50 thousand watts.....Your ears would stay ringing for days after......lol.

    • @heavenhelp1982
      @heavenhelp1982 10 лет назад +3

      Well, I see what you mean but truth is that he didn't leave this for Def Leppard...that came much later. A bigger crime was leaving this for Whitesnake, as it meant he was reduced to the role of "hired hand"/mercenary, at a time when he was still very creative and had much more to offer than simply playing someone elses songs. After that disastrous tour with Whitesnake, he tried his luck with Riverdogs...made a good album but the record co didn't promote it, so it stalled. That shit grinds a person down fast, so he was probably desperate at the time when Def Leppard came knocking...having said that, he seems to enjoy being in that band. It's a shame we don't see his full range of talent anymore but at least we have this old footage

    • @westoftherockies
      @westoftherockies 10 лет назад +1

      heavenhelp1982 I've seen Def Leppard and I was so disappointed because I couldn't even hear Vivian in the mix and imo he's the most talented person in the band. There is a video of him playing Rainbow in the Dark with Steel Panther and he can still play his ass off. He's still got it but just needs to get in a band that will once again showcase his talent.

    • @westoftherockies
      @westoftherockies 10 лет назад +3

      he is the most talented person in the band...he was kicking ass as dios' guitar player on dio's first two albums after he left black Sabbath and rictchie blackmore way back in the 80s...Vivian Campbell was pretty much at the top of his game back in 82 and 83.

    I was lucky enough to see DIO in 1987 in the Sydney Entertainment Centre,Vivian had only just left,but Craig Goldy did a fantastic job,and to this day it is THE BEST SOUNDING gig Iv'e ever been to!! To put that in perspective I saw Bon Jovi[Free luckily a few weeks later{edit 2019 5th December NO it was Bon jovi in 1986) it was the peak of their fame with 'Slippery When Wet'and although DIO was not a full to the limit in capacity - DIO had TWICE the amount of P.A. F.O.H.equipment! It was like Bon Jovi brought in the SMALLEST rig they could get away with,and although Tico Torres played fine ,his drums sounded like"Wet Cardboard"and Jon Bon must have had an off night as Richie Sambora sung ALL the lead vocals while Jon mimed along,It was a testament to how much Ronnie James Dio cared about his fans and to the music,even though the venue was not full,he made sure it SOUNDED FANTASTIC a true professional,and lover of his music and people Rest Well in your Castle in the sky or where ever,I'll NEVER FORGET along obviously with *always RESPECT!*.

    I'm convinced to date he was the best Rock singer in history. He could be singing beautiful tender melodies and in a split second switch to an intensity that could wake the dead. But both varieties were still very beautiful.
